Took my wife and sister in law there for dinner Saturday night July 31. The place was packed. I got some seats at the bar while we waited for a table. We were having such a good time at the bar, we decided to stay there instead of getting a table. Our bartender, Paul, was the best of the best. You don't find service like that anymore. Very professional with the best attitude I've seen all summer. They were out of the halibut and prime rib, so we ordered the sirloin and scrod special. Sirloin was good, but not our cut. Great location and great mudslide ... it is clear they know they are the only spot around because the service couldn't be more rude. They used to allow dogs at the outside tables across the parking lot for those of us stoping by for just a drink with a pup. Not only can you not sit there with an animal now (right next to the dog bags from previous seasons), now they run out and shout at you if you happen to be walking by to let you know your dog isn't welcome near their restaurant making even walking by unwelcoming. Two occurrences of being "spoken to" about my dog without even ordering from them. If I wasn't staying in this harbor I wouldn't go near this place ever again. read more

If you have no regard for others around you/no interest in controlling your kids then leave them at home, this is not ChuckE Cheese on the water. FINALLY an older waitress yelled at the kids behind us for running around and climbing on the tables after 30 mins and we already had our check. This place is as busy as ever, so no need to be extra welcoming to families with small kids and not consider the greater dining population's enjoyment. Great restaurant for the family! Good food and outstanding live music and service! My grandfather was wearing his Korean War Veteran hat to the restaurant and they noticed it and not only did every employee go out of their way to thank him for his service, but he was seated right away in a spot where he had adequate lighting to read the menu, as well as a great view of the live music! Went on a Monday night in August, and it was very crowded. We waited 20 min for an 8pm reservation on the porch. If you sit inside, it's by the piano, so quite loud, but there were a few tables empty there. It's also loud on the porch if it's crowded. Even though they were busy, the service was fine. We liked the lobster salad, a really huge sandwich on bread rather than a roll. For $29 a good price, since it is the size of 2 lobster rolls. The haddock was meh. We were hoping to watch the sunset, but no luck that day with the clouds. At least if you have to wait, there is a nice outdoor seating area by the water. read more

Just left the Chartroom after having lunch with my wife. I was very disappointed, couldn't get a glass of Kendall Jackson Chardonnay to start, don' have anymore. Then I ordered a cup of gazpacho only to find out it is off the menu. Not wanting to give up I ordered my favorite, the tuna in the tomato, no longer have. Long story short, I had a bear and left. I believe this is my first review as I typically don't have the extra time to to leave one but carving it the time for this one. To set the stage: On vacation in the Cape with family and my wife and I planning our first baby free dinner date since the birth of our first almost 7 months ago. Needless to say it was due. Anyway the Chartroom was recommended by someone but it had mediocre yelp reviews, we decided to go anyway. I called a day ahead to make reservations for 7:30pm the next night, no problems there. Night of we're having issues putting our little one down for the night so I called around 7pm to say we had a reservation but might be a few minutes late and asked if that would be OK, as I've done this before. I was told "we're probably closing the kitchen at 7:30, but it's a little busy, so you might be ok". I was a little taken back by that. Sounded like that was the plan all along. Why let me make that late reservation then? Who knows. Baby went to sleep (finally) and we arrived on time. Waited a bit for our table, again, no issue, place was packed. Ordered mudslides (very good) and hung out in the bar area until table was ready. About 5 minutes after we sat down we were greeted by the wait staff "I see you're looking at the menu, you ready to order now?". We didn't even have any water at that point and our other drinks were gone so we wanted to order those first, like any normal night out, plus we were in no rush being our first night out. Either way, not a big deal. Then came the food which is the core of this 1-star rating. First off, I had to panic pick an entree because they were out of what I wanted. Shame on me for not having a backup. Waiter was hovering over my shoulder waiting due my choice so I felt like I had to pick something, and fast! I went with Scallops and my wife went with Haddock. Both dishes very sub-par, almost like the kitchen stopped caring and wanted to get out of there for the night even though the place was jammed. Scallops were watery with no flavor. Haddock was mushy as though it had been soaked in water for days and boiled instead of baked. We ate it all because it was expensive and I wasn't in the mood to make a scene about it and wanted to enjoy the evening together. Maybe it was an off night? Place was packed and seemed popular. However, with an the reviews on here with a mediocre experience, perhaps this is just the norm. If you're claiming to be a seafood place on the Cape you better knock it out of the park on every dish, especially at those prices. That's enough of my long winded blathering. The food is worth 5 stars. The lobster salad was beyond amazing. I loved every bite! We had fresh mussels as an appetizer, and they were delicious. We loved waiting with a cocktail looking at the boats and soaking in the beautiful weather. Our service was not the best. My water glass sat empty. Our server never checked back in on our meal. In some ways we seemed to be a bother to her. This paired with the noise level is the primary reason for 4 stars verse 5. read more

First mistake, took my family on a Friday night mid summer. Our food was mixed, two meals were a 8/10 and two meals were 3/10. The special striped bass dry as shoe leather. My scallops were tasty. The sword fish was awful. The crab cake was good but not enough crab and too much cake. The wait staff was older ladies and the bussing staff was young kids. Our waitress was a grumpy overworked stressed out lady. We relied on asking our bussing staff to bring us new drinks bread and other things. When our food arrived it was as if we didn't exist anymore. Waitress never came back until it was time to pay. The meal was very disappointing to say the least. They don't make a "lobster roll," nope, what they do is insane! They have the freshest, cooked just right, lobster, that is kissed with mayo, and iled insanely high and served on Portugese bread (or they serve it in a tomato. I've never had the tomato version.) I've been coming here to eat this dependably awesome lobster sandwich years!!!! It's almost thirty bucks, but I have never before, or since, had a lobster sandwich like it....omg...this is the stuff dreams are made of. Fourth time here in the past 2 months. Cannot beat the location and the steamers and special haddock chowder were fantastic. However, we had a reservation with and still waited 45 minutes to be seated, despite watching a walk-in of six (who seemed chummy with the host staff) get seated immediately. Bad optics, especially since there were a couple other parties w/ reservations who had been waiting even longer. One hostess even said to the other 'we should call xxx on his boat' when a name in the list was called repeatedly and no one responded. A little too 'old boys club' for my taste, ladies. Our server was lovely and because of the location, we will probably return, but for overall experience, my loyalty still lies with the Lobster Trap. read more

But they've ruined the ambiance by forcing you to have food and really limiting the space to just sit on the adirondack chairs to have a drink. Have only been here a few times each summer for drinks outside. Parking can be a bit daring but its super fun once you jockey for a drink and a seat. My husband and I enjoyed an early dinner here with our three kids. Lady on the phone was very nice as was our waitress. A bus boy was kind in bringing Goldfish crackers for my kids. Stay with me on this one . This is the favorite restaurant of every very senior citizen in the area . They all dress like they were going to high tea . That in itself is great . The food is good and if you can't deal with the clientele that's on you . They now have new menus with plastic covers so that's and improvement . They have good food at good prices . I never liked the stuffed tomato with lobster not for the lobster but for the cardboard tomatoes . After reading a few of the lower starred reviews, I think people really need to stop being so crabby! (Get it?) I think the Chart Room is a great spot on the Cape. I came with a couple of guys that have been hitting this place up since they were kids - in fact, they worked here for many summers while they stayed on the Cape during school break. And that's just the thing - the staff is young, pre-college for the most part. There's definitely a hand full of old-timers but come on people, do you really expect someone to make the Chart Room their full-time all-year job? This place clearly only is thriving in the summer months so their staff is going to be temporary and eventually grow up like ANY vacation town out there. Here's what we ate, and let me tell you - it was FANTASTIC! Clams Casino - I had never had these before, and I HIGHLY suggest ordering two, because they're just that good! Steamers - okay, these aren't hard to screw up. They were sweet, plentiful and made me happy to be on the Cape. For my entree I got the Swordfish (apparently it's a must-order if "T" is in the kitchen) with anchovy butter on the side. The fish was cooked to perfection, literally. I'm just not a huge fan of anchovies so I used the butter sparingly and it worked out juuuust fine. So good! One of my friends got a special with some sort of mango mahi mahi and a coconut rice - it looked amazing and she gobbled it right up. They have a great outdoor area looking onto the marina that regulars camp themselves out at. It gets crowded because it's a fun spot - a good mix of ages, and everyone seems to know everyone. I honestly feel bad for the people that had a bad time here but it's like every other place on the Cape and Islands that's popular - good food, good drinks, might have to wait awhile for your table, but lots of happy people and happy staff. Last but not least, do yourself a favor and order their famous Mudslide. It's definitely the equivalent of a boozy ice cream sundae in a cup, but it's amazing! read more

I've been going to the Chart Room for about 7-8 years. Hands down, it has THE BEST baked stuffed lobster I've ever had. No, it's not the cheapest but look where you eat it??!! I have yet to find a better location to eat and have a few cocktails and have room for the kiddos to literally RUN around. I was amused to find that this place had been featured on something called "Rape on the Cape," where evidently various over-priced businesses on Cape Cod are exposed. It was probably right for them to stop here, but having parked in Kingman Yacht Center for the night, we really couldn't walk much of anywhere else, and our boat wasn't much of a road-going vehicle. So Charter Room it was. For lunch and dinner. This place is ALWAYS busy. Which means the people around here have way too much money. It is an awesome location, though... and the outdoor seating is great. Here's a tip, to save you cash and ensure a pleasant dining experience: Go for the sandwiches. They're awesome. I got a corned beef and swiss, and was very pleased. My roast duck dinner was less thrilling. I usually give a thumbs-down to something I've done better by myself at home, and I've definitely made better duck. Not worth nearly twenty dollars, for sure. Service was vastly different between lunch and dinner. At lunch (even though it was less busy) our server moved at a pace that wouldn't even make a paralyzed snail envious. Our server at dinner was much more on top of things. Given the price, there was one more thing that was slightly asinine: I couldn't get Caesar dressing on my house salad. I didn't want a Caesar SALAD, just the dressing. No-can-do. We want to make sure you pay your full Caesar salad price. CLEARLY the place is hurting for cash. Welp, we got raped on the cape, but at least the sandwiches were pretty good. read more

I'm really sensitive to writing negative reviews. But this place deserves it. My wife and I were looking to have a few beers and some appetizers/dinner. This is a great location because it is on the harbor and has covered outdoor seating. We were seated and I immediately noticed the menu was disgustingly filthy - see the photo I posted. Are they not ashamed? How hard is it to present customers with a clean paper menu? Anyway. I ignored that as a simple oversight. It happens - nobody is perfect. But then my Guinness arrived and the beer glass was just obviously dirty. So I asked for a new one (see photo) and it was slightly better but still not clean. I ended up drinking the Guinness out of the can. I ordered a second Guinnes and it arrived in a glass. The top of that glass was dirty too!! So I asked if they could give me another Guinness in the can, which they did. We had a mushroom crab appetizer and, at $9.95 it was just okay. A few beers and an appetizer came to $38. If you get trapped in this tourist trap, you have been warned - and will only have yourself to blame. read more

My summer childhood fav for lobster rolls.. last summer, however, I excitedly brought C there in his first time to Cape Cod.. our bill for four lobster rolls was $120. Cue Happy Gilmore: The price is wrong, bitch! With the ridic price jump, they tasted a little less delicious.
