I truly enjoyed my visit here. I almost made the two bad reviews keep me away, but all I took from them was to probably skip the steak. I got the chicken Florentine with grits and Brussels. It was all really good, and I appreciate the service provided in assisting with my order and the suggestions. They have an amazing whiskey selection and I liked the ambiance inside even thought I took the food to go. I will def be back though.

Just ate at Charred Oak Kitchen for the first time. The service was great, the food was amazing, and the restaurant had a cozy feel to it. I had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans and my husband had the blackened salmon with mashed potatoes and black eyed peas. Everything we had was so good. We are so glad to finally have a place in Carrollton that is worth the trip. I am actually looking forward to going back so that I can try something different!

Because of that atmosphere, I was honestly a little disappointed there was no complimentary bread like you get at a lot of higher end places. It is a small thing, but it felt noticeable given the vibe they are going for. We started with the loaded fries appetizer for $14.99. Flavor wise, it was good. The brisket and aioli worked well together, and the sliced jalapeños added heat without overpowering the dish. Unfortunately, the fries themselves did not live up to the rest of the flavors. The choice of fry just did not work for me, and it ended up holding the whole dish back. With a better fry, this could have been really solid. The seating was another downside. The chairs were uncomfortable, with curved edges that pressed into my kidneys the entire time. It reminded me of sitting in a high school classroom desk rather than relaxing at a restaurant. Service wise I didn't really know who my server was, maybe they switch? I ordered the mac and cheese and felt pretty neutral about it. I was not digging it, but I was not hating it either. It tasted more like Alfredo than traditional mac and cheese, which was not what I was expecting. The shrimp, however, were good and easily the best part of the dish. Overall, I still had a good experience. The atmosphere is nice, and while a few things missed the mark, it was not enough to turn me off completely. The restrooms are located on the side and not near the Hucks sign, which is good to know. I would return.

It was a good cut of meat, but it was poorly cooked and had no flavor at all. That's the part that's hard to overlook, this is a steakhouse-style item, and it's also one of the most expensive things on the menu. Simple salt, pepper, and garlic work wonders, and somehow none of that showed up here. When I spend top dollar on a steak, I expect that to be the best thing you do, the flavor that brings people back. On this visit, it was the opposite. Now, credit where it's due: the strawberry Huckito was very good, and I absolutely recommend it. Also, the service was great, friendly, attentive, and professional. But when the most expensive item on the menu comes out poorly cooked and bland, it makes you start looking elsewhere to spend your money. I'd consider coming back for drinks and give it another try, but the kitchen has to tighten up steak execution if they want repeat business.

Farm-to-table dining is the central core at Austin's and the menu boasts a focus on rotating seasonal dishes and bar snacks. The beverage menu lists skillfully crafted cocktails using botanicals from local farms, including ones on the property, to create unique cocktails with herbal and floral flavors...no premade mixes or lower quality liquors here. On my latest visit we arrived just in time for Saturday night jazz (9pm-11pm $10 cover charge per guest). Unfortunately there was a mixup with the jazz artist scheduled to perform that night, through no fault of the restaurant, and the entertainment started about an hour late. However once the show started and the lighting dimmed, it added a different vibe to the entire restaurant that both the diners and employees thoroughly enjoyed. The jazz artist was absolutely amazing! My husband and I were seated at the bar but had a perfect view since the establishment is fairly small. We dined on the Little Gem Caesar which consisted of grilled lettuce, burnt garlic, anchovies, and lemon ($15). The Crispy Rice Salad which is locally sourced Serenbe Farms greens, cucumber, pickled carrot and daikon, peanuts, edamame, fried shallots ($19), The Short Rib dinner with fermented honey, crispy potatoes, crushed herbs, Jus, chilis, garlic, pickled shallots ($39). For our cocktails, we enjoyed the Austin's mule, the Tropic of Cancer, and the Front Porch Swing. All were delicious! The food was also enjoyable. The only downside was the portion sizes of some of the dishes. The Little Gem Ceaser for example consisted of only 2 romaine lettuce leaves and a wedge of lemon. It definitely left you yearning for more. There was also a halibut dish that we've had on a past visit that was the size of my palm with no sides or salad to accompany it. Other than that, Austin's is a must. From the ambiance, to the thoughtful presentation and flavor of the food and drinks, as well as the exceptional service. It's a definite go-to when wanting that night life feel away from the city.

We ordered a pizza and a small Greek salad. Both were delicious and offered plenty! I ordered a dirty martini but when it came, they did not have any olives and had ice chips in the martini which should've been strained out. The server was happy to change it out and the bartender mixed a Jameson whiskey and honey for me instead. Maybe I missed it but I ordered a Philly wrap did not see mushrooms in the description came filled with mushrooms, it was soggy, the cheese over powered the under seasoned meat. Our server was not very attentive either. I feel like management should've done a table touch but i really didn't see anyone who was a manager the whole time on a Friday night. Kinda wild. Not sure if id even be willing to try another local restaurant after how bad this one was probably just go to a chain.

Andrea and Dezzy were absolute stars, the kind of service that makes you feel like you've found your new spot. They're the reason I came back again the following week. That third visit had a few bumps. The service wasn't quite up to the usual standard, but I'm giving them grace. Every restaurant has an off night. I kicked things off with the Shrimp Aglio + Olio, which is unbelievably good. I've had plenty of versions of this dish, but this one wins by a mile. The focaccia is divine, and the garlic butter deserves its own award. The Grilled Caesar is not your average Caesar. The char on the romaine gives it a smoky depth, the capers add the perfect crunch, and pairing it with the salmon keeps it light while letting the housemade dressing shine. I'm not big on the drinks, but the Berry Me in Tequila is the standout. Dessert sealed the deal. The Madagascar Vanilla Bean gelato is creamy, balanced, and not overly sweet. And the Tiramisu Classico? Shockingly good, and I usually avoid tiramisu altogether. The music is a whole vibe, and it doesn't matter if you're inside or out, the energy follows you everywhere.
