If I could half a star I would. So bartender, was slow as molasses. He seemed to be more interested in talking to friends then working. Once he did help, service was very slow. After he delivered my beer that was half head....I called him over to dump & pour my beer again. He seem agitated with request. After second pour I ended up with (see pic below). We received food, Tots were cold, burger was cold with ZERO taste. Probably the worst food I have eaten. He asked twice how food was, both times reported food is horrible, only response was "so will this be it?" We celebrated our son's birthday recently at the City Tavern. The private room upstairs was perfect for our group as it allowed ease of conversation for those attending dinner. We had a bridal shower on January 22, 2022 at next door to city tavern. The space was clean and beautiful! We had to do minimal decorating to make it very special. The staff could not have been nicer or easier to work with. They set up the delicious fresh food and kept it up throughout the shower. They provided a lovely bartender to serve us. To be honest I usually have to see something outstanding to write a great review. The bartender (didn't catch his name. First, we are regulars, and come in for burgers, wings, tenders, and fries, which are very good. They serve tater tots too which are a nice option to fries, which are also good by the way. We also stop by for a shot of bourbon or a cocktail on certain nights. On occasion though, we will mistakenly order something like the "Chicken Philly", which turned out to be a snack size teaser sandwich made on a split dinner roll. It is like some rip off food you would get at Disney; had like a tablespoon of chicken or less on the whole sandwich. Now I understand that some fare is portioned slightly larger than others, but when a "Philly", which incidentally was coined to be a large succulent sandwich rich with meat, onions and cheese, comes out and the sandwich sides are similar in size to the ProV1 golf ball I been knocking around all day, I can't accurately say that It should be served as a meal. Perhaps move it to the starter menu. Guys, look; we love you, and want to come back frequently, but please have some standards for the sizes of your sandwiches, and if you already do, please train your staff to only serve it if it meets your standards. We know times are tough, but Cheap and Chincy little Phillys don't fly n this town..... If you are eating here, do one thing...... This place is the definition of, "I could eat here. But will I get food poisoning?" The answer is (sadly) yes, you probably will. The food is overwhelmingly unimpressive. The menu is full of average, unoriginal bar food. The salads are weirdly gray, burgers desperately underseasoned and very dry, chicken is soggy. At least one friend has gotten sick after eating here (yikes). The one benefit of going here is that -- since the bar is in the heart of a college town -- the drinks are hella cheap. I generally do not eat and stick to the $4 gin and tonics. They also offer ultra cheap beers -- think $1 Natty Light, and other watery budget beers. There's a large area upstairs for groups. The bar itself is smallish, and there's only a few booths. Service is hit or miss. You oftentimes have to ask two or three times for something before they finally bring it to you. read more

My wife and I were out in Carrollton doing some shopping and I was hungry. Since I was playing chauffeur while she shopped I got to choose lunch. I wanted a good burger and a beer. I was not disappointed. We ordered fried pickles to start. They arrived quickly and were very good. Crispy and good flavor. I ordered a pimento bacon cheeseburger and my wife ordered a chicken BLT. Both sandwiches were very good. My burger came with tater tots and my wife got fries. Our waitress was slammed because the bar was pretty full and she apparently was the only server plus the bartender. She did a great job despite being so busy. Great interior layout and design, well-apportioned/ reasonably priced menu items, and a strong alcohol selection. I highly recommend City Tavern's wings and burgers. When I set out to the square in the evenings, I find myself drawn over to City Tavern more and more for their consistency and general atmosphere. I find the service to range from average to excellent, depending on what night I visit, though the kitchen is always on top of things. Even on a busy night, I'd be hard pressed to think the kitchen wait-times would not be satisfactory for even the most impatient and unaware customers. I wish I could give zero stars. Worst lunch ever. When we first arrived there was only one other table there. This was good because we knew we had to get back to work in an hour. It took our waitress quite a while to even take our order. When she finally did we let her know when we needed to leave to get back to work. Then we waited.....Finally, asked her to have the food boxed so we could take it with us and to go ahead and give is our checks. She said ok and walked off. 15 more minutes pass, still no check. The food finally comes out boxed up without the checks. She had to go back to get them. I have NEVER left a restaurant without tipping, but today changed that. Well, you could just say, "Eh, it's pub food, how good could it be?," but the Irish Bred Pub just down the street absolutely beats the Tavern in terms of the burgers and wraps/sandwiches. It may be that the beer selection and mules here are appealing. However, service was pretty rough (had to ask for silverware, water, ketchup, etc. repeatedly). Two servers were tag-teaming our table on a not-crowded night, and it was still spotty. I'm not necessarily motivated to go there again. It was all around meh. read more

Went for a group lunch on a Sunday afternoon. It was later and not too busy. Service was great. Food was ok. I had the Rise and Shine burger which is basically a cheeseburger with a fried egg. I was excited when this place opened, and have been more and more disappointed on each of the 3 visits. Keep in mind I am a reasonable and happy person, and LOVE the majority of dining experiences I have. I would much rather write a positive review than a negative one. Simply put, it is obvious this place is run by someone who knows nothing about the restaurant business. The servers are consistently uninterested In anything but their phones and their college friends, the menu is uncreative, it's obviously all pre-battered frozen crap, the burgers are bland and not cooked properly (3 burgers, all ordered medium well and ranged from rare (sent back) to hockey puck. The bartenders on all 3 visits were apparently all starting their first ever bartending shift, providing weak drinks and lousy pours, with one girl chatting with other servers for several minutes before pouring our beers. When my wife returned her burger for being almost raw, the server was annoyed and unapologetic, showed it to the manager (maybe owner) who looked at us, rolled his eyes and could care less. The same burger was thrown back on the grill, burnt to a crisp and returned to us with a finger hole in it. The server put the plate in front of my wife and said "here" and pulled out her phone and walked away. No apology, no checking in.... I am usually a very good tipper, but if you plan on eating here make sure you have two pennies with you. read more
