My wife and I came to The Rooftop excited to celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary. We walked in…read moreall smiles, found two open seats at the bar, and sat down. Unfortunately, that excitement disappeared pretty quickly. We waited approximately 10 minutes without being acknowledged. A woman standing behind us who had arrived after we did was approached by the bartender and had her order taken first. I'm not going to speculate about the reason, but sitting there and watching it happen certainly didn't make us feel welcome. At that point I decided not to order anything because I already had doubts about staying. My wife ordered a glass of white wine that was supposed to be a 6 oz pour. When it arrived, we both questioned the amount. I even noticed other glasses of wine at a nearby table that appeared to have considerably larger pours. I've included a photo so people can judge for themselves. We weren't looking for special treatment because it was our anniversary. We simply expected the same basic level of acknowledgement and service as everyone else. It's unfortunate because we came in genuinely excited to try a local place and celebrate together. The atmosphere has potential, but our first impression of the service made us feel like we'd be better off spending our anniversary somewhere else.

The plaza designers severely under-planned the parking lot. Because nearby vendors share the spaces, each business only ends up with a handful of spots. The plaza parking is consistently packed during the day, and I often have to drive back & forth in the lot waiting for someone to leave. We considered hosting a luncheon here for 30+ senior citizens. There is a handicap ramp out front, however, the lack of dedicated & convenient parking was a dealbreaker.

Because of that atmosphere, I was honestly a little disappointed there was no complimentary bread like you get at a lot of higher end places. It is a small thing, but it felt noticeable given the vibe they are going for. We started with the loaded fries appetizer for $14.99. Flavor wise, it was good. The brisket and aioli worked well together, and the sliced jalapeños added heat without overpowering the dish. Unfortunately, the fries themselves did not live up to the rest of the flavors. The choice of fry just did not work for me, and it ended up holding the whole dish back. With a better fry, this could have been really solid. The seating was another downside. The chairs were uncomfortable, with curved edges that pressed into my kidneys the entire time. It reminded me of sitting in a high school classroom desk rather than relaxing at a restaurant. Service wise I didn't really know who my server was, maybe they switch? I ordered the mac and cheese and felt pretty neutral about it. I was not digging it, but I was not hating it either. It tasted more like Alfredo than traditional mac and cheese, which was not what I was expecting. The shrimp, however, were good and easily the best part of the dish. Overall, I still had a good experience. The atmosphere is nice, and while a few things missed the mark, it was not enough to turn me off completely. The restrooms are located on the side and not near the Hucks sign, which is good to know. I would return.

Our entrées arrived, but my salad never did. When I asked about it, the server said she thought I wanted it with my meal. I told her I no longer wanted it. She returned with who I assume was the manager, and instead of simply acknowledging the mistake, they stood at our table demanding I pay for the salad whether I received it or not because it was "already being prepared." I was even told that if I refused, the server would have to pay for it herself. They continued standing there staring at me, making an uncomfortable situation even worse, then offered to make me a "fresh" salad to take home. Fresh? Was the one supposedly being prepared 10 minutes earlier already old? The food was average at best, but the customer service was remarkably poor. With staff standing around in a nearly empty restaurant, this was completely unnecessary. I won't return. Do yourself a favor and make the drive to Thai Basil in Villa Rica instead--the food and service are exceptional and 100% worth the trip. Left a 20% tip anyway is it will be the last cent the restaurant ever gets from me.

It's a small restaurant but what stands out is the wall of bourbons. Our table spent a lot of time looking at the wall and identifying brands we have not tried. They offer flights of bourbons. We settled on a Woodford flight and Old Forester. Appetizer - Cajun dip was seasoned well and the tortilla chips were warm. Main course - Shrimp and Grits and the Seafood Pasta. Both use the same seafood/peppers/sausage toppings. They were seasoned heavily to almost being salty(just needed to scale back a lil but). Dessert - Peach Cobbler. It is shareable and good.
