This is the second time we have eaten here. The town square of Carrollton is so fun! We stopped by on our way home from South Carolina back to Alabama. The food is pretty good. It's not authentic Asian but it's a fun atmosphere and my boys will alway eat steak and rice no matter where it is from. There is a rooftop area you can eat on and get a good look of the downtown area. The servers have always been very nice. The fried crab ragoon appetizers were some of the best I've ever had. Overall it was fine. And that's just kinda that. The service and staff were super nice. No complaints there. The Crab Rangoon's were less than stellar and the Poke Bowl was nothing to write home about. That being said I wouldn't think it's bad I just wouldn't go out of my way to get it again. One word for this place: DISGUSTING. If you want frozen meal-quality Asian food that is somehow worse than said frozen meal, please dine here. Their "sushi" is a disgrace to the traditional cuisine. The rice is always chewy or overcooked, and you can be sure they use the lowest-quality fish on the market and drown it in nasty sauces that fail to recover the dish's taste. Besides sushi, their other menu items, like hibachi-style dishes, are also embarrassing. Instead of pouring actual love, time, and artisanship into their recipes, I'm pretty sure they just run to the nearest gas station to grab bottles of yum-yum sauce and canola oil to use in the kitchen. Service is always sub-par if not negligent. And the scale of Nama's cleanliness is in the TRENCHES. I don't even know how the Department of Health hasn't noticed that the toilets are literally half-screwed to the floor, and trash is scattered everywhere at all times. And I have a bone to pick with their water... it tastes like actual body odor and sweat. What is up with that!? I wouldn't point this out if every other restaurant on the square had this problem, but it's Nama specifically. Even their tea and carbonated water have sweat essence too. read more

My favorite sushi spot in the area. Limited menu compared to most sushi locations, but each roll is a 10/10. My favorite rolls are the Nama roll, Kani roll, Rian roll, and the surf & turf roll. They also offer several entree options. I personally like their sesame chicken and the pad sea ew noodles. I love that they rotate seasonal beverages. On weekends, it may be a good idea to get a reservation as their dining room is smaller and it's a very popular spot. They do have 3 outside tables, a full bar on the second level with seating and roof top seating seasonally. read more

So, there was nothing WRONG with Nama. I think you should go to Nama. But it was just "A-OK" for me. We came for lunch during a work day, looking for a little something. DH and I both got bento boxes. I ordered the shrimp tempure and he got the Maki roll. However, the top of the roll has 3 spicy mayo on it, so we had to switch. Minus one star for no description of the roll in advance. The spring roll that came as one of the sides was fried and a bit heavy for the item - think more egg roll style and not spring roll style. The edamome was over salted. Not too expensive, ok service (to be fair, we ate outside), and enough food for a filling lunch makes this worth trying out, but don't come prepared for fantastic, just "A-OK". read more

The tables and walls are decorated with nice decor. A bar was located upstairs in the restaurant. When we arrived we were seated right after the hostess removed the extra dishes from our table. While waiting for her to return, I observed that the wine glass on our table was dirty and had lip gloss stains on them. After bringing it to our waitress' attention she brought out new drinking glasses and had me verify that they were clean before pouring our water. The waitress then told us about the specials. One of which was the go west sushi roll. It sounded good so I ordered it. The sushi was served with eight rolls and contained cream cheese, tuna, shrimp tempura, avocado, and tempura crunch on top. The roll was good. The hibachi shrimp was also good. It was served with a large portion of stir fried vegetables and the option of steamed or fried rice for an up charge. Our group of 4 had reservations on a Saturday night. My husband and I have never been. We ordered a spring roll that was very good. I had the hibachi chicken with "grilled " veggies. Not even close to hibachi. The grilled veggies were frozen and steamed to death. My husband added shrimp and fried rice to his chicken hibachi meal. My colleagues had the Pho but had to send it back because the broth did not cook the meat. Moreover one colleague didn't like the darkness of the broth but the remade plates they ate. Let me start by saying the food is excellent, though this isn't a positive review. I've eaten here many times and never been disappointed by the quality of the meal, but there are some consistent issues with the service and I feel like it's a good idea to forewarn people. The short version is this: if you're here for lunch, double check your bill. For the long version, I present two stories of Friday's experience. I ordered a sweet tea and my friend ordered unsweet. The server accidentally mixed them up and we each got the wrong drink, which is obviously not a big deal. We didn't see her again for a long time, but when she came back we told what had happened. She brought replacements, but mixed them up again. We let her know what had happened and made it clear which of us was supposed to get which drink. She asked if we'd like new straws so we could just swap the glasses. Now, I understand that not everybody objects to drinking after someone else, but suggesting to customers that maybe they'd rather enjoy each other's saliva for lunch so you won't have to bring new drinks is pretty inappropriate. She seemed baffled by our saying no, so we explained that we needed fresh drinks because we both tasted them. She said, "Oh, you drank out of them?" and reluctantly took them away. As she walked back to the kitchen, she apparently gave one of her coworkers an exasperated look. This was pretty typical of the service for the rest of the meal. Okay, that's lousy, but it's not a big enough deal to merit an online review, it's just kinda gross and weird. The second experience is, though. Several times after I've eaten lunch here I've been struck later by how high the bill was. Once, a few months ago, I noticed before I left and checked the menu. It turned out they'd charged the dinner prices rather than the lunch prices. After some confusion, they sorted it out and adjusted the tab. I'd forgotten all about it when I went in the next time, but after I left I was shocked by having spent almost $50 for lunch. Today I was prepared for it, and confirmed the prices before I ordered. Sure enough, when the bill came, they'd charged for dinner again. I want to think it's a recurring mistake rather than a deliberate policy of the restaurant, but here's the most worrying part: when I explained what had happened, the server didn't know how to fix it in the computer and had to get the manager to do it. Since this is the same server who overcharged the previous time, it seems likely that she does it consistently, and that customers don't usually notice. The first time I caught it, though, it was a different server, so it's not just an issue of a single person in need of a refresher. I'm not suggesting avoiding the restaurant. Again, the food's great, and the service is often just fine. It just might be a good idea to check your ticket for the right prices, as it's not a cheap place at the best of times and the lowest suggested tip on the bill is 18%. ETA: I went to Nama for lunch last week, and the manager approached and mentioned that she'd seen the review. I wouldn't have thought I was enough of a regular for anyone to know me by sight, but the person I was dining with apparently is! The manager was very nice, and said she was sorry to hear about the issues we've had in the past. She presented us with a gift card for a future meal, which was very thoughtful, and definitely not something we expected! read more

GREAT PLACE! My husband and I had reservations for an early dinner on Friday night and after we went to the roof top bar for drinks. WE LOVE THE ROOF TOP BAR! My husband enjoyed the music, the crew was super friendly, service was on point and the drinks were delish! The sushi was fresh and my husband enjoyed his panang salmon. They must have blown their budget on the exterior because upon walking in I noticed booths with tables which are much too short. This is very odd and makes for an awkward feel when you are sitting next to someone. As I sat at my short-tabled booth and looked around to see framed posters on the wall and some of the lighting fixtures were attached to the A/C grilles... very tacky! I ordered the sesame chicken which was very disappointing. The chicken was overcooked and the sauce on top tasted like it came from the supermarket. I have honestly had better Asian food at the Panda Express. My wife's hibachi vegetables were no better. There were four in our party, and we all left half of our meals un-eaten, and we did not take any to go boxes. This was because of the poor food quality. The beer selection was also mediocre. The service was ok, but I found it strange that the servers were in cut off jean shorts and t-shirts. I would expect that in a country bar but not in an Asian fusion restaurant. We finally found our sushi place in Carrollton. The food was fantastic. We had two orders of Sashami, which although it was paper thin (like what would go on top of a roll) it was fresh and delicious. Only other drawback on the Sashami was that it was a little pricey but again very tasty. We also had 4 other rolls Nama, Dragon, Lava, and Spicey Tuna. Our friends didn't do sushi and they got a hibachi chicken dinner which looked yummy. Our waitress was attentive and very personable. The restaurant was nice, clean tables, spacious, good ambiance. Perfect for a casual dinner. We will definitely be back for good sushi in Carrollton. read more

This place is OK for Cartollton but it still has some growing pains to get through. Hopefully it is just growing pains. Its a cute place in a good location. The menu is pretty straightforward. A combination of hibachi like dishes, pho, and sushi. I asked the server if they had Coke Zero. Her answer was that they had run out the week before but that she was going to check if they had refilled. They hadn't. I ordered the hibachi vegetables and asked if brown rice was an option. It wasn't. Then my friend asked if she could substitute any meat for tofu. She couldn't. They didn't have it at all. For an asian restaurant that caters to a university so close by this seems odd. My friend ended up ordering pho without meat as it was super pricy with it. My hibachi vegetables were ok but the portion should have been slightly larger. My friend's pho was enormous. according to her it was good but she didn't seem too impressed. Also, I asked for sirascha and literally got one tablespoon of it. I told her it would be easier if she brought me the bottle. One tablespoon wasn't going to cut it. So she came back with about a fourth cup. Our server was kind and was helpful. She did a good job. We sat outside & the setting was very relaxing. We were able to hear music from one of the other bars. Started with the Nama roll and it was really delicious. Would definitely order it again. We each ordered a hibachi meal. It was delicious as well, however the rice didn't appear to be cooked to order. It wasn't the best part of the meal, although we ate it. Service was good. Overall a good experience and we will be back. Would've gotten 5 stars, but the rice didn't seem fresh and they didn't let us know that they weren't doing the soup and salad appetizers with our meals for that evening. We finally visited Nama for the first time, and I'm thinking about all the great meals we missed over the past year by not coming here! Our server was Sydney, and she was a blast. One of the first things she said to us after she greeted us was how much she loved talking about their food. This is a very good sign. My wife had sweet & sour chicken and a sake blended drink (don't remember exactly which one), and I have the teriyaki salmon and pino grigio. The service was great and the food was delicious. Best rooftop atmosphere in Carrollton I've ever been to. Highly recommend you head upstairs and you won't regret it. I had the sushi burrito which was quality sushi, nothing new - But great. The Tokyo fries were underwhelming, don't order. Basic bar fries with mayonnaise. My husband had the hibachi which was delicious + well seasoned! You HAVE TO try the spring rolls. Best spring rolls I've had since I've lived in Vinings. Our server Holly was sweet and attentive. My only complaint is the drinks were incredibly watered down. I had 3 blueberry mojitos and basically paid $25 for flavored water, my husband said screw it when it came to the old fashioned and just ordered scotch on the rocks.
