I have moved many times in my life. Over seas, cross country, and this was my fourth local move within six years and one of the worst experiences. I don't usually post negative reviews unless it is exceptionally bad. And I held off on posting this, trying to let it go. However, their are too many negatives and I don't like being ripped off so I think others have a right to know. Already delayed and rescheduled twice due to holiday closure and then a s ow storm, moving day finally officially arrived. The truck arrived over two hours late. However, there were five movers, including the company owners son, who reassured me everything would get done. Mentioning if anything gets damaged they can file a claim with their insurance, no problems were expected. I want to mention that I chose this company because they said they stated they have a shop and the sales benefit battered women and children. I was downsizing and had many like-new items I needed to let go of. When the movers arrived, I walked through every room with the owners son. We reviewed the items separate in two different rooms and clearly labeled. To be loaded first we're the items all together labeled DONATE' and the last would be everything that was grouped on its own in the living room. Each item labeled 'TRASH" or " THROW OUT' Mover outs were allowed to leave items behind for disposal there and the trash area was literally next to the loading area. All they had to do was not put the item marked 'trash' onto the truck' Everything else was to go to my new home. My understanding was that the owners son and the man (seemingly the team lead) would be at the truck making sure everything went where it should. The other three were moving items, the lead appearing upstairs to help from time to time. Around 1pm pm I received a call from management at my new address asking where we were. She said I was not allowed to move after 5pm and we had to get there or she would cancel my move. I was visibly upset and the three movers in my apartment lead the lead know. I then got a call from the owner's son who, it turns out was. It even on site! He is the one I reviewed everything with, but he was gone and asking if he should come back. It was too late for him to help at that point We needed to be getting to the new place by 2pm A room full of things had to be left behind which I later had to spent many hours over many days making car trips to move the rest of my things on my own. Fast forward to the end of moving day. The movers had brought in MANY items marked "TRASH" and placed them in my new apartment. Included a broken planter with fresh cigarette butts from one of the movers!! In addition, two of my antique dining room chairs were missing. I complained to the movers and the owner before the movers left. There was no acknowledgement other than to say 'it was a crazy day' that I was tired and needs to relax. No apology for arriving so late, and they charged me the full price. I was NOT happy. She said it was just a crazy day and she was sorry that it was the building manager at my new place that was such a problem. This is where it gets even worse. I filed a claim for my missing antique dining chairs. The owner 'did me a favor' and sent me the paperwork directly. The paperwork title is a P.O. box,. No logo, no contact information, no web site. I asked for it multiple times in the following weeks and was was told she would get back to me or that she has the same website and email I do. I would repeat there isn't any email or website. My protests and requests for k formation were ignored. I looked the insurance company I was told they used online. Only a PO Box, no website or email, and a fake phone number. I called many times over several days and it went to a automated voice of a woman trying to sell insurance. I continued to contact the Charming Mover's owner weeks after my move about my chairs. The owner ultimately said they had met with the insurance company I and I would hear from them In a day or so, I received an email from a personal Gmail account (no company name, number, email, or logo) and they stated that the issues was considered resolved, I replied that nothing was resolved until I had my chairs or the money to replace them. Within a week, they found my chairs and the owner brought them to me. Luckily in good condition. But with no refund, no explanation, not even an apology. They took all the donations, no receipt was given. At this point I'm not sure if they even have a shop or if they if they offer to take things and sell them for profit? I hope that this is very unusual and the positive posts are real. But I have to post this to warn others just in case... read more

Omar (1 of the movers) played Jamaican music during their entire packing & moving process and it was quite delightful. They quoted me $2200 plus incidentals and charged me $5300. I was very clear on what I wanted with the move and spent an hour with her going through the house. so this is in response to her reply to my review since I can't reply and defend myself So people can see how much crap her response is Whoa whoa Hold up. No this is completely wrong. When the estimate was done I made it VERY clear that I needed everything boxed and then moved. You even told me during the appointment that they would come the day before and pack everything and come the next day to move everything. You told me the only thing that I would have to pack would be the hanging clothes and that you would provide me with the boxes that I can put them in. I gave you a Catonsville address and that changed to another Catonsville address less than a week later so there was no additional travel added because of the address change. The two houses are literally 4 minutes away from each other. We walked the entire house and when we went in the basement I said I need the safe moved as well and you said no problem, they can take it out of the basement door. Don't try to turn this around on me. Literally nothing changed. I never told them to stop working. I would've stayed up until 3 am for them to finish. This is the biggest load of crap I've ever heard. Everything in this reply is false so that means that you either didn't listen to me, you lied to me (which is becoming more and more obvious with this reply), or you under quoted me on purpose. The moving team was excellent in packing/wrapping up everything, however we found that when our furniture was then delivered, 3-4 pieces had rather large and many dents in the furniture tops that were likely from things being packed so very tightly and pushed up against other pieces of furniture that it rubbed badly in transit. Never experienced this before and given that it happened to several pieces it was very sad. We also encountered that pieces that had been wrapped in plastic had their paint removed when the plastic was removed. This was due to the pieces not being wrapped with cardboard or blankets before being wrapped in plastic. When this was reported we were told to file a claim which we are in the process of but do not know how that will play out at this point. read more

This company does everything they say the are not about: hidden charges: $850 in additional supply charges just for wrapping furniture?; unreliable: they forgot a crate of my stuff and tried to charge me 3 hrs of labor for leaving the move in and going to Baltimore to get it; bad customer service: Cheri the owner argues and patronizes you on the phone when you are just trying to understand the hidden charges. A year ago my family moved out of a three bedroom townhouse into a three foot apartment. When those movers unpacked the truck, they left everything in a pile, with the things we needed most at the back or bottom of the pile. As a general rule for all movers, get an in-person estimate and it should be free. Charming did this and it was easy. I enjoyed the movers who came both to move me out and then two weeks later came to move me in. I had a crew of four guys both days, two guys were present for both the move out and the move in which added a nice consistency to the move. None of my belongings were broken or damaged in the move (I packed my own boxes so I feel like I deserve some credit for this hah!). The reason for not giving 5 stars is due to communication issues when booking the dates and wasted materials. At my in-person quote I was told the guys would be packing up the couches and cushions together to wrap them up, which matches what previous movers did. But when they guys showed up, they must have been incentivized to use as much material as possible since it's included in the final bill. They wrapped the cushions separately, which meant twice the material. There was confusion about the date of my move, which ended up being resolved with a phone call. When they arrived the day of, the movers thought they were moving us into our new house the same day which was not the case. That got cleared up quickly with another phone call. We moved up our move-in date since our settlement date was moved up. Charming was very helpful in accommodating our changing schedule. BUT, the movers showed up 2.5 hours early with our stuff. I was able to hurry and meet them and move in, although we technically did not own the house at that point which added stress to the already stressful process of moving. They also did not assemble the bed frame at our new place, presumably because I disassembled it while they watched (it was easy yet difficult to explain but if i'd known they wouldn't do jack to assemble it as a result of me showing them how to disassemble, I'd have given a verbal explanation to save myself the annoyance). I've moved a lot in the past ten years. The movers are great, but you do have to micro-manage the owners/coordinators a bit. This seems to be true of all movers. Now that you know, you're ahead of the game Be VERY upfront about materials used. Supply your own if you can (check with Charming- they used boxes I provided but did not use the tape I provided so I got hit with $4/roll on that). I also kept unused moving materials, including partial rolls of tape. If you pay for it, make sure you keep it. read more

DO YOUR RESEARCH !! Shop around and then comparison shop some more. I believed investing in a woman owned company would be beneficial, but in this instance I was inaccurate. I moved from a 2 bdrm apartment to a 3 bdrm apartment in the same complex. I was given a quote of 3 men for 4 hours ($755 -give or take a few bucks). I ended up paying $955 !! I wasn't made aware that I'm charged for travel time until the gentlemen arrived to start the job (meaning you pay for an hours work for them to travel to your home and back to their facility ). This concept I will never understand. Well I ultimately ended up paying for another hour of labor so 4 total working and 1 hour travel time and caught one of the guys on his mobile phone twice. Then again they were standing around in the truck chatting and laughing; on my dime. Unacceptable ! They damaged my door and lost a few screws to my kitchen pantry. So much for professionalism and care. I ended up having to pay another set of guys to move the remaining items from the apartment they "didn't have time" to move (sectional sofa, computer stand and some misc. items). I guess it was too much to expect a courtesy call the day before the move ( I took the initiative to call them ) and of course there was no follow up afterwards to ensure everything went well. I guess that's the extent of any expected customer service. Once they get their payment, you're no longer priority. What a waste --- read more

For the most part the move went well. They packed the house on Friday, my parents bought the guys lunch. I came home and it was ready. Saturday as we exited the home, one of the dressers ended up going through the wall. The men wised up and lifted it over the railing after that. When the legs were put back on the same dresser it was wobbly. I didn't know until they were gone. They put the legs on and they weren't even and somehow one of the legs had the screw holes stripped. I fixed it myself the next day. And the dresser my wife has was Nice and wobbly too now. Hers, I'm still trying to figure out what happened. And the bed for my little one ended up with stripped holes. That bed has screws you need an allen wrench for assembling. The guys busted their butts, we feed them Saturday. When I talked to Cheri about the hole in the home I have on the market, she said she'd fix it on the following Thursday. I agreed and had to have my realtor passing the message, the hole will be repaired. The next week, I heard nothing do I had to hire someone for $250 to fix it and then my wife was told Charming Movers doesn't cover damage but we'll send you $75 towards it. After spending $3,500 for the move, it would have been nice for the owner's word to fix it, to be truthful. I was happy with the guys that did the heavy work, but not the treatment to resolve the hole. Un-Charming Movers moved me out of state in May/June of 2012 AND they recently threatened legal action against me unless I remove any and all negative listings. Obviously, that isn't happening. The case is not settled! They co-mingled my items; causing lost and damaged items yet refuse to sufficiently compensate me. The company is beyond unprofessional. The credit card company is involved and I have two years to file a lawsuit. I also filed complaints with the US Dept of Transportation which is ongoing. She took the time to document where each piece of furniture and art were to go. The moving crew showed up right at the time promised and I got confirmation by Suki. I hired Charming Movers Inc for a move years ago and am just now getting around to writing a review. My estimate almost doubled and there was damage to the house (holes in the wall) and to my furniture. The claim process was a pain and Cheri was very unpleasant at the end of the process. The movers moving my furniture/boxes were hard working, so I think the issue had more to do with a poor estimate and the company not sending enough movers to handle the job. Dealing with Cheri and Suki at Charming Movers was the best experience I've ever had with moving from one location to another. Not only was their quoted estimate the most cost effective of the 6 I got for this move, when it came time to pay at the end, the cost to me was exactly what was quoted. Cheri even helped me with insurance for the move. When I mentioned to her that the company Charming had referred me to for moving insurance was very expensive, she had her personal insurance agent call me. My family has been through 3 cross country moves in the past 7 years. The first was adequate and the second bordered on criminal neglect. My family and I were not looking forward to the 1600+ mile move to Texas. Charming movers made our fears disappear. They were timely, professional, and polite. Their price was extremely competitive. I was impressed with how gentle they were with our furniture and the walls of our house. I had some heavy pieces that were tightly packed into a small home. Family and female owned and operated, Cheri will come to your home personally to inventory and provide an estimate for your move, and then will communicate and work with you to execute the plan for the day of the move. I appreciate the personal service and direct communication. I met her son as he was part of the crew that day and he had a calming effect on what potentially could have been a very busy and stressful day. The admin staff calls a few days ahead for final preparation and are pleasant and resourceful. The moving crew is courteous, professional, and pleasant. These guys are efficient, strong, and reliable. They have this down to a science! They were quick in moving items but careful with them at the same time. The rates were affordable. I also appreciate that they now take donated items (furniture) and sell it, where proceeds go towards a charitable cause. I can honestly say when I had a friend in need of their services, this moving company was at the ready to get my friend, who recently lost her husband, and her 2 small boys moved out of a house they were being evicted from. Grieving single mother with 2 kids who didn't have the full price to pay for the move. I used Charming Movers to move my things out of a storage unit and to move out years' worth of other "stuff" out of a garage. Unlike some other past moving experiences that didn't go so well, I found the overall experience ran very smoothly. I arranged everything directly with Cheri, the owner of the company. Unfortunately, I waited until the last minute to clear out the storage unit and I was under a tight deadline to move everything out before I would be charged another month. After I explained the situation, she made some calls, and was able to shift some scheduling on her end and was able to squeeze me in within 2 days. During our call, she outlined the charges involved and provided different options to allow me to do as much or as little as I wanted with respect to packing, etc. so that I could save money. The moving truck arrived early in the morning, as scheduled. The two movers, one of which I later learned was her son, were professional and courteous. I helped them a little bit with moving my things out of the storage unit, so it went quicker (and saved me time/money). They drove to my girlfriend's place for part 2 of the move. They emptied half of my things from the storage unit and neatly stacked everything along one wall. They then moved an entire garage full of years' worth of stuff, into the truck - which was literally loaded to the very top. They swept the garage when they were done and took everything away to the dump. It felt great to have a clean garage! Because I pitched in and helped, the move time was a little less than anticipated and it ended up costing a little less than anticipated. Charming Movers moved us from Annapolis, MD to Surfside Beach, SC and they were perfect from start to finish! They pre-packed the breakables the day before the truck arrived, the truck arrived on moving day on time with 5 guys and all of it was loaded in 3 hours with no obstacles! The truck arrived 3 days later (at our request) with 2 more guys and everything was put in each room and the beds were re-installed. EVERYTHING went smoothly and the guys were wonderful! They never inspected the damage on their own. When I told Cheri about the damage she said she did not want photos. I can supply them if you would like. The video on their website starts with "have you ever experienced a nightmare move?" Yes: Charming Movers was a nightmare. We had a written agreement by Charming Movers and was contacted by Cheri 9:30pm the night before we were supposed to move saying their truck was stuck down in Florida. We were to move 8:00am the next morning and settle on a sale of the house. We were desperate. We found alternative methods later that night and paid a fortune as a result not to mention the incredible grief and stress we went through. After a week of no contact from Charming Movers, I called Cheri and was told, they did everything they could and are not responsible for our expenses. I was told by my girlfriend who hired this company that she signed a contract and in it there was a "clause about mechanical failures." It turned out that she did not sign a contract and there were other statement I was told I later found to be false. We feel that Charming Movers should have had a backup plan. We had a written agreement. We feel Charming Movers should compensate us for all additional costs. In addition, we paid Charming Movers to come to our house a week before the move and pack our house. They over-packed costing us more money than it should have cost. For example, they packed files from a file cabinet. I found paper files packed with paper as if it was going to break. I had previously moved the entire cabinet myself and this will cost me hours to put it all back the like before.
