This was my first time trying "pit beef". This location shares a parking lot with a gentleman's club, which was interesting. The outside of the building is covered with accolades and TV shows that have featured this restaurant. You order at the counter and they call your number when your food is ready. I decided on the pit beef sandwich medium, with macaroni salad and baked beans (the latter came highly recommended by the cashier). The food came out pretty quickly and I turned the corner to see an array of sauces and toppings for the sandwiches. I tried a taste of their bbq sauce and found it a little vinegary. I ended up adding a small amount of horseradish sauce to the sandwich. In my opinion, it would have tasted just fine without any sauce, as the meat was pretty juicy. I was surprised at the size of the sandwich, as it was much smaller than the roast beef sandwiches I've had in Massachusetts. I really liked the macaroni salad, but the baked beans had little pieces of green pepper in it, which I didn't care for. It's a solid option for a meal and I'm glad I tried it. read more

I have been here many times before when I lived in Baltimore. I now live in Texas and have to visit at least once while in town. Don't let the fact it shares a parking lot with a strip club stop you from visiting. The food is terrific, definitely worth trying it. The staff are always friendly, the place is always clean and of course the food is great. They have several different BBQ sauces to try. The "Golden Sauce" was my favorite. I love this place! The best pit beef spot in town! It's weird how it's located in the parking lot of a strip club, but I guess it's convenient for weekends after the club for some good food. All the famous foodies visited here so I had to try. It is located in industrial area so I left little out of place. We tried the regular beef sandwich, pork rib and banana pudding. The beef sandwich does not come with any sauce but you can add different bbq sauce and dressing at the self serve area. I personally liked their hickory sauce. This is where pit beef was born and this was excellent! We wanted a quick meal before heading over to the nearby haunted house. We found Chaps close by and headed over. We got pit beef sandwiches and my friend had a sandwich with chicken cordon bleu and ham and loved it. The beef was so good and stacked high. We ordered and within 10 minutes we had our food. It disappeared quickly and was super tasty and filling. This is an order at the counter and wait to hear your number and pick up your food. There were plenty of available tables and it was clean and very good. If highly recommend a visit to Chaps if you are in the area, or if you want some really good pit beef it is worth the trip. Newer and cleaner facility but not the nostalgic shack I remembered but do understand an upgrade was required. Not much to say except best pit beef sandwich in all of Baltimore. Well, I love this place but the employees working in the dining room are something else. One was standing against the condiment counter on his phone the entire time I was there . We have made the conscious effort to make our way here at least once a month but my husband would like to up it to two; that's how much we love this sandwich. The place seems unassuming but it's clean, quick, and efficient with the ordering process here. Get your sandwich and load up on onion, horseradish, and many various styles of bbq sauce. Don't forget the pickles and ask the counter for some fresh horseradish as well. I wish the condiment containers were a bit bigger for the big pickle slices but it's probably a good thing people can't load up to take too much on the side. Welp, saw this place on tv multiple times, so I thought I better check it out while I was in Charm City. Their beef is excellent and tender. I like that you can request it to be rare up to well done. The sausage was not fatty at all. I wouldn't get a large sauerkraut next time because they don't make it in-house, so it's nothing special. But their sauces are! The Tiger Sauce and Gold BBQ are both unreal good. I feel like the Gold was fairly spicy. The service was quick and high quality. The entire restaurant was clean. Ummm?? This was one of the most mixed bag experiences I've had in a while. Take what's relevant to you and leave the rest. I got the #52 Chaps Special and a small Mac'n'Cheese to go. The sandwich-- which, unlike the mac, was a decent size for the money ($12)-- was kinda maddening. First, I should say that I requested BBQ sauce and it was missing. Came in my Baltimore food tour and this was the cornerstone of the itinerary. Last second audible when I went from the classic pit beef to the "guys triple d" which allowed me to try the beef, corned beef, and sausage on one sandwich. It was awesome!
