In the sea of chain food highway exchange options, Chaps stood out from the crowd (Note: it is a local chain with three outlets and growing). Food was fresh and good quality and service was fast and friendly. I later learned that Pit Beef is Maryland's own version of BBQ. There were 3 in our group that day. My wife ordered the grilled chicken sandwich which is well-seasoned with what seems like a pepper-based dry rub. Good taste, smoky and above average spiciness. It was a generous portion and a bit too much chicken for her to finish, so we had leftovers! Our kid ordered the chicken tenders platter with fresh cut fries. The fries are really delicious and fried in peanut oil--which is posted if you or someone in your party is highly allergic to nuts. I had to resist the urge a few times but kept on reaching for them, they were that good. I opted for the 2 Meat sandwich option, Beef/Turkey. My beef was medium-rare and the combo was quite good. Tender, smokey and full of flavor. They offer a good sampling of sauces their including own and toppings of chopped onion, a red pepper relish, pickle chips. I concocted a refreshing fountain blend while there, lemonade with raspberry ice tea. It's a good accompaniment to the quality of food that Chaps served up. Chaps is a solid 4-star place, probably closer to a 4.5 but I'm giving them 5 stars since there is no 1/2 star rating option. read more

I prefer the pit beef medium rare, due to the fact they actually do make it medium rare and the pit beef is relatively good. Due to its nature of being the only bbq game in town I feel that there will be no shortage of business coming here. I've never had a Rueben like that in my life. I was in the Baltimore area for work from Kansas (where we know great BBQ) but I have to say, Chaps was unlike anything I've ever tasted. Management was very helpful and answered a few questions I had for him. My pit beef (prepared medium) was incredible. All of the condiments are stationed off to the side. I wasn't sure what I wanted to add so I grabbed a little onions, tiger sauce, horseradish, ketchup, BBQ sauce. Onions, tiger sauce, and a little BBQ won me over. This was my first taste of the newly opened Aberdeen restaurant and while it wasn't perfect, it was pretty good. The long ordering line moved fairly quickly and the young lady taking orders was very pleasant and welcoming, making it easy to overlook the wait. I ordered Pit Ham on a Sub Roll (you get multiple choices of meats and bread) and a small French fry. No drink for me since they only offer Pepsi products. Total $11.66 with tax. The wait for my order was long by comparison (18 minutes), but not too surprising considering how busy it was. A manager(?) came out to apologize to people that had been waiting, saying they were still trying to get a good balance of speed and quality. As for the food, if you don't ask for any toppings on your sandwich, then you don't get any, which I actually kind of like. The same goes for the fries, not even salt, at least none that I could detect. There are two condiment bars with all kinds of sauces (BBQ, ketchup, mayo, etc.) and toppings (pickles, onions, etc.) so you can build your own masterpiece. I opted for the house BBQ, which is an unusual cranberry color with a semi-sweet taste -- good for ham, but it seemed less suited for beef. The ham itself was cooked well and had the smokiness that you're looking for when you go for pit meat. The portion size was also respectable; 5.5 ounces of ham on my sandwich. There were more fries than I could finish, but that could be because they were soggier than I like. Some people prefer limp, greasy fries, but I prefer a little crunch so I'll probably try a different side on my next visit. In summary: the food was very good but on the pricey side. The atmosphere was clean and friendly, but the wait was long. Take out menus are available, but it's not clear if you can call and order ahead. I'll be back! read more

Stopped on my way passing through and it's right off the horrid 95 excuse of a highway when traffic always crawls like a backroad. Downgrade score for lackadaisical cashier staff effort, but the food came out quickly. minced beef was sloshed in sauce, but tasty. baked bean side was very small so get an up-sized portion if you intend to share the second spoonful. self serve soda dispenser. I don't know about owners, but they seem to have a hands-off approach with management since none of the reviews get any type of reply or challenge as if no one cares, and that' probably correct. Since we are out of towners from the south, I missed my bbq and tea. The wonderful smell (not overwhelming to the resturaunt) of the meats cooked on the grill was to die for. I had the raven (corned beef,turkey, pit beef, maybe ham? I can't remember)which is enough for two people to split! The double d hamburger is real ground meat made into a patty,like at home. It was ginormous my very hungry 12 year old could only eat half. If you order fries get the small, and a small drink is plenty too bc you can refill your own. The fries are fresh cut, like five guys. Some of the best BBQ around and tastes just as good as the main location in Baltimore. I had moved to about an hour away from Baltimore so I only made it to Chaps about once a month or possibly less, once the location in Aberdeen opened I was able to go considerably more often. The sausages, cheese fries, beef and more is all amazing BBQ and I 100% recommend it to anyone looking for some good food. I had a 2-meat combo; beef and corned beef with slaw, onions, pickles, tiger horsey sauce and their in-house barby sauce on a sub roll. It just worked! Plus sides of mac and cheese and baked beans that I barely touched but will consume later. Lordy, that was enough for two meals but the meat was just exquisite. Stopped here on a rare day off with my husband. We've been to the one down in Baltimore and loved it. Was hoping this second location would live up to the hype. Boy did it! We got there just before the lunch crowd,it got super busy around noon. We walked in and were very pleasantly surprised at how clean and huge everything was. So much space! There's signs telling you how to order, I thought it was hilarious but apparently necessary. Cashier was nice and our order came up very quickly. Tvs all over the place, big screen! Of course most were on the food network as Guy Fieri has been there on many occasions with triple D. The food was amazing! I had the Rachel with corned beef and it was piled on so much it was coming out the sides. I got a fork to clean up the rest ;) we were in and out in less than a half hour. This place is new in the Aberdeen, MD area and it's a breath of fresh air if you're seeking variety to the traditional fast food chains. Their menu selections are pretty extensive when it comes to meat, including pit beef, sausage, corned beef, pulled pork to name a few and they're all delicious. They have a wide variety of sandwich breads as well. Their fries are delicious (I believe they are cooked in peanut oil). I usually get the Guy's Triple D sandwich with a side of fries and it's always great. Their selection of BBQ sauces is also good as well. If you arrive at/after 11:45 pm expect to wait a while for your meal as this place is pretty popular among the lunch crowd. This place is great! I've been to this location twice and the food has been awesome both times. The pit turkey is perfection. And all of the sides we've tried have been delicious. Their BBQ and tiger sauces are great, too, as well as the pickles. The restaurant is nice and big with lots of seating. So you get the Chap's pit beef stand taste with the comfort of a restaurant. Mediocre bbq place , potato salad was tasteless , pulled pork is so-so , I need to pour a lot of bbq sauce all over to make it edible, my fav bbq cause is sweet baby's rays , pour that on any pulled pork sandwich and it makes it 10x better. I don't like their fries just not my cup of tea, plus they're inconsistent with tha salt on the fries , sometimes it tastes like there's no salt at all and other times it's way to salty. Such a great find in the Granite Run Promenade.! The roast beef sandwiches were done to perfection and the staff was super friendly and helpful. I had the roast beef special with coleslaw and Russian dressing and my husband had a traditional roast beef sandwich. both were excellent. We also had the famous banana pudding and it did not disappoint! The service was quick and efficient and the dining room was spacious and adhering to Covid safety precautions.
