Stopped in based on good Yelp reviews. Walked up to the window and ordered sliced beef sandwich which can be "cooked" the way you like. I did medium-rare. Also ordered slaw and large drink. While waiting for food, I filled up with sweet tea and they had lemon slices there for adding to your tea, nice touch! Sandwich arrived, medium-rare as requested. I dressed it with the house BBQ sauce (there are other choices) and the provided horseradish and a helped myself to a couple of slices of dill pickles on the side. I tasted the meat plain, and it had an excellent smoked flavor, not too fatty or chewy. I bit into the sandwich with my added horseradish and their home made sauce. Wonderful!! The slaw was also very good with a malty vinegar flavor and crisp, fresh texture. The remaining sweet tea with lemon slices went in the car with me. It was an excellent restaurant with lots of details that you would not expect from a bbq joint (medium rare, lemons, horseradish fixings). Highly recommend. read more

To me, Chaps Pit Beef is what a Roy Rogers roast beef dreams of becoming - a tender, savory, fast food roast beef sandwich. There must be 2-3 times as much meat in the sandwich here, and it's much tastier. Not real Southern Barbecue or Barbacoa - just a delicious beef sandwich, no more, no less. First time I came here in early 2020, I was impressed by the smoky flavor and juiciness of the pit beef sandwich. It was more flavorful and in my opinion better than Pioneer Beef in Catonsville (the only other pit beef I have had). Now a year later, I was driving thru Aberdeen again and made an effort to stop to relive that experience. Sadly, this time it was dry and not very good at all. First: If you like the Chaps down in Baltimore, you'll be fine here. Second: If you come at lunchtime, prepare for a line. The overwhelming number of people who pay with cards plus the slowness of the chip processing mean the line doesn't move very quickly. They need desperately to set up a second register. If you like pit beef, their pit beef is good. If you don't know what pit beef is, it's mostly just roast beef prepared a specific way. Stick to the default roll they offer it on, everything else falls apart too quickly. If you get peppers/onions as a topping it has tomato sauce in it, which is weird to me, but I wasn't raised in the land of pit beef, so it might be standard. Their fries aren't great, but getting them with cheese and throwing some barbeque sauce on their redeems them pretty handily. I think their biggest problem is they need to clarify the ordering process. The menu lists toppings, but you don't order those toppings at the register, they're available by the drink station, and this confusion slows the process down a lot. I don't think I'll ever be super excited to hit up Chaps, but I don't think I'd ever turn it down either. I'll have to try some of their other offerings. read more

Second location jitters? Afraid the new joint won't be as good as original? Fearing mediocrity? No worries here! Chaps occupies space once occupied by a deceased burger joint. Their loss. Chaps gain! The menu? Simpler than the iconic original. The ordering process? Pretty much the same, but, they will ask how you like your beef. If you don't answer"Isn't that a bit too personal?" You're in luck! My son and I joined another family for a post baseball game victory lunch and yours truly suggested Chaps. No objections. Fantastic! My son ordered the Richwich. Sausage, turkey and beef crammed onto a sub roll. It was the last item I ordered at the original last week. He also ordered the Mac&cheese. Both great. He dressed that sammich up with BBQ sauce and onions with a side of tiger sauce. I preferred this item nude or as is. He lamented the overdress after he chomped into an unaffected area. I ordered the Big John. Because I am. Big. Pit beef, corned beef, ham, turkey and sausage cramped in the safe space of a sub roll. I guess I got really lucky when I came here on Tuesday, June 21. Barely no line at 4:00 (found out later it had just opened!) Anyways, I'm born and raised in Maryland and have been going to chaps for YEARS. I moved to San Diego 6 years ago and everytime I come back home I stop by. I had a last minute work trip to Aberdeen and come to find out that they opened up a location about a couple minutes from my work site! Went there the first day and got a Guys Triple D.. Delicious as I remembered it! That tiger sauce is a must! My work trip ended and I had to fly back 3 days later and what did I decide to have while waiting at my gate AND for dinner that night back in San Diego? Yup! You guessed it! This time I if to wait in line for about 20 minutes with 7/8 people in front of me. I think it was the manager that was expediting and calling out order numbers but he was chatting it up with us in line at the same time. He asked if I've been there before and I mentioned I was just there a couple days ago, but this time it was to bring back to California! Ordered 2 52 chaps specials (1 for the plane and 1 for dinner that night). People at my gate were staring and one guy asked where I got my sandwhich.. Yes I am even surprised I would give them 3 stars. Well this was my first time at this locations and I have to honestly say it wasn't the best. It was pretty uncomfortable. The first register wasn't open (the employee states after we had been standing there waiting for her attention) so we finally greeted by the lady at the far left register. I had a few questions because the menu is a lot smaller than the Baltimore location. The cashier didn't seem very familiar with everything so she possibly could have been new so I wasn't bothered by that. My issues came while I was waiting for my food. A lady by the name miss Vickie was not being professional at all while I was there. Instead of holding her composure over what ever she was upset at she decided she was just going to storm through the country saddle doors (the ones from the kitchen to the dining area) to argue with an employee. (This was in front of us customers) Two of the guys in the kitchen were shaking their heads and I wanted to shake mine right with them. She then goes back into the kitchen and still seems to have an attitude. At this point I am ready for my food. I ordered a Richwich and a large Mac and cheese. I made sure to pack some hickory and bourbon BBQ and a side of onions and pickles to go. The sandwich was amazing! The Mac and cheese could use some more love. This place is truly dysfunctional! I frequent the Chaps down on Pulaski highway (worth the 30 min drive, btw) and I have never experienced the chaos and disregard like the Aberdeen location. Trying to get an event catered for 50 people and they put me on hold for over 10 minutes...guess who's feeling the clown? Thinking that there may have been an oversight, I called back a second time. WRONG! The girl answered the phone with a slight "hello?" and I instantly knew that I was dealing with the most amateurish of first line staff. I again stated that I was looking for my event of 50 people to be catered and she put me on a brief hold, came back and asked me if I could hold while she looked for her manager. They used potato buns, the gravy fries were good, and they had Pepsi products but there's not much more nice things I could say. Overall the pit beef was bland and came slices like it was pulled pork. The ribs were also greasy and lacking in flavor. This facility in Aberdeen pales to the one in Baltimore as far as the quality of food. Though the establishment might be newer and cleaner, the food is quite mediocre. Especially when compared to a similar--albeit closed--restaurant like Bull on the Beach. My biggest beef (pardon the pun) is that Chaps doesn't ofFer a nice Kaiser roll for their sandwiches. Let me begin by saying I am a food network nerd. I wouldn't consider myself a foodie, but i like to try a lot of the places featured on the shows. Living in the mid-Atlantic reagion offers up a ton of opportunities to do just that. Chaps is one of those places where food show hosts visit and talk about it being on mainstreet in flavor town, or something to that effect, and when you arrive, you realize that they werent just blowing smoke to the audience. I have tried several of their sandwiches, and have never been disappointed. All their meats are top quality. The sandwiches are just stuffed with this smoked, tender deliciousness. And though it isn't considered a traditional pit beef sandwich, there pulled pork is the best in town. There fresh cutt fries are pretty darn good too. They serve them unseasoned, but they provide salt, and other seasonings so you can doctor them to your taiste. And if all that wasn't enough, the house sauce is delicious. Its almost a cross between Franks red hot, and a bbq sauce. It goes great on the sandwiches, and is perfect for fry dipping. read more

I had Chaps cater a party yesterday and everything was excellent and for a fair price and great customer service!! I got the petit platter, which includes pit ham, turkey and beef, baked beans and coleslaw with all of the condiments and rolls. I also got the sausage, onions and peppers, which everyone raved about. Mac and cheese was good, but not the best I've ever had...a tad on the bland side for my taste, but the kids gobbled it up! I have only lived here a couple months and in that time I have had the pit beef (of course), corned beef, and a special they called hog heaven (ham, pulled pork, bacon, and cheese sauce). All of the sandwiches are well-filled with meat and the meat is always tasty. My only complaint is $1.00 to add a single slice of cheese? Always check the specials, they are great and include a drink. My son typically gets the beef platter that's an open faced pit beef with a pile of fries, all covered in gravy. I ordered the the Pit Beef on potato roll with cheese peppers and onion topped with a bit of tiger sauce and a side of cheese sauce fries. The pit beef can be order to the level of wellness that you like. I ordered medium. The pit beef was delicious however the potato roll did not hold the sandwich together. Probability due to the pepper and onion making the roll a little soft. Pretty much finish my sandwich off with knife and fork. I would definitely get the sandwich again on a different roll. Good food!!! the pit beef is great, cooked well done. the chicken fingers are very large and you get an extra piece with a platter. I had my fries cooked well done and they were good once salt and pepper and ketchup were added. the sweet tea is just right. there is room to sit and dine or you can take your order to go. they separated by bread and meat so I wouldn't have soggy bread once I did eat my sandwich. we will return again. have had good experiences. read more

One of the worst places we've ever been!!! Don't waste your time or your $$$!! The only thing worse than the horrible food was the ridiculously bad service. They were all lazy. Girls standing around on their cell phone. The cashier couldnt care less if we ate there or not. They were out of unsweetened tea so we asked if they had any more.
