Was driving thru town and decided to stop here because I seen good reviews, I was happily surprised. It wasn't busy but you can tell it is a popular place. They have a few tvs and indoor/outdoor seating. The pit beef was so good! One of the best sandwiches I have had hands down. I loved it. The fries were okay, but I am not a fan of fresh cut fries. I love Chap's and usually go to the original on Pulaski. I was driving through Baltimore and the original wasn't open yet but by the time I hit Aberdeen this location was. I went inside just after the doors opened. It's really big, plenty of seating. The staff was just as friendly as on Pulaski (except Bob isn't there handing out food) and the food was also just as good. If they had a bar this place would be the best. But even without alcohol available they're still one of my favorite spots. I'm happy to see that they were able to expand and still keep the food, service and staff the same. Definitely a stop if you're within a few hours. read more

I recommend not going more than medium. Very generous portions of meat on a soft sub roll. They have various bbq sauces and tiger sauce on the counter. Pickles as well. Free refills on drinks. Omg this pit beef is freaking amazing!!! I had the beef platter with fries and gravy all over. Beef was ordered medium rare with a side of horseradish. The beef was SOOOO tender!!! I couldn't stop eating it and the portion was very very generous. The service was pretty quick counter service and there was plenty of seating. You can also literally smell the delicious smokey flavor in the air as soon as you get out of your car. I highly recommend trying Chaps and I'll definitely be back again! read more

What's the big deal? Absolutely nothing special about the pit beef sandwich. It was nearly raw in spots (see photo). Just bland and boring if you don't put BBQ sauce on it. There are so many different options to order here but during this visit, we opted for the Beef sandwich, Turkey and Beef sandwich, fries, and hot dog and chicken tender meals for the littles. Moved from MD to FL years ago, only to sadly learn that pit beef is local to MD area. I was so excited to visit Chap's on a return visit to town! Their pit beef sandwich did not disappoint ($9.80). It was piled high atop a hamburger bun. Choose onions or no onions and choose how you want your beef cooked (medium, rate, etc.) There is a self-serve fixins' bar with condiments, several types of BBQ sauce, horseradish, pickles and more! I also got fries with gravy (yes, a MD thing, too, sadly enough) and they hit the spot (large fries with gravy, $6.20)! I needed more brown gravy and that was an additional $2.25 for a small cup full. Plenty of inside seating as well as outside. Save room for dessert - Rita's Frozen Custard is right across the street! This place is in a strip mall. I was expecting more of a BBQ beef place but it's basically a beef sandwich place. They also have fish and I thought I saw chicken options. The beef was pretty bland actually. I added onions and jalapeños and that helped but you want to think about add one to give the sandwich life. The green beans were ok. They add tomatoes and it gives it a slight marinara flavor. It was ok. The drink fountains are free refill so have at it. The place is clean and the staff was friendly. The teenagers were singing loudly in the kitchen and it brought a smile to my face. Clearly their manager is creating a positive environment and this isn't just a workplace for them. It's a great experience by the sound of it. I will definitely come back and try more of their food. I like these people! Give them a try and see how you like it. Haven't been here in years and completely forgot I tried this location. I ordered the pit beef rare with raw onions. Absolutely loved it. Very tender and thinly sliced. Perfect meat/bun ratio. The bun was soft and fresh. I had to pull some of the onions off. I liked them but I don't think they added too much of anything extra to the sandwich. They have a sauce and pickle bar. I tried the house BBQ and the horseradish sauce which had a cool name but I forget!!!! They had others that I didn't try. The pickles were great!!!!! I also ordered a small side of cole slaw. Oh hey, last Saturday evening, I was introduced to the wonderful world of Chap's Pit Beef. What is pit beef, you may ask? It is like roast beef you might get at a deli, but grilled over a charcoal flame and served on a sandwich. I got mine with onions. Raw onions. And a bunch of barbecue sauce. It was good. Pit beef is good. Chap's is good. Their mac & cheese is good. I am so glad I was introduced to this wonderful and amazing world by my friends. I will come back if I am ever in Flobberdeen, oops, I mean Aberdeeen, not Flobberdeen, who was the villain from Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. We had beef sandwiches there on March 2, 2025. The meat was _completely_ tasteless. All three of us added salt thinking it might help, but no. Then more BBQ sauce, still nothing. We were hungry so we finished most of our sandwiches ... but yuck! How do you completely wring the taste out of chunk of beef? Maybe they freeze it or boil it or both? Whatever the case this was the worst BBQ beef sandwiches any of us could remember. Also the menu was limiting - for example, they have ribs to go but no ribs as a sit down menu item. They need to go visit a legit BBQ place, even a solid chain like Mission BBQ or Soulman BBQ (Texas) and take some serious notes. One positive - the staff were friendly. Nice kids. Chap's makes a point of wrapping itself in its hype: the windows and walls are slathered in plaques, newspaper excerpts, and reminders of which famous TV foodies have eaten here. Hell, the back of employee t-shirts reads "Guy ate here." I hate to be a Debbie downer or go against the grain, but after today's experience at Chap's I don't understand the hype at all. In fact, I'm baffled by it. Baltimore is known for its own style of barbecue and "pit beef" is the city's speciality. From what I understand, the meat is cooked at 4-500 degrees Fahrenheit in an open charcoal pit until desired level of doneness is reached. I went with what Chap's is known for and ordered a beef sandwich with onions. The onions are placed on the bottom and the roll seemed to be of the potato variety. I also asked if I could get some of their sausage on the side, and the yawning cashier said "no problem." The sausage amounted to maybe one link that was cut in thin cross sections. It tasted OK and had a nice "charred but not burnt" texture. However, it wasn't on the side, it was thrown in the sandwich. To add insult to injury, this one sausage link cost about $3. Rip off. As for the beef: I ordered mine rare. Was it rare? Unfortunately, it was not. I'd call it medium to medium well. Some pieces were slightly pink, others were black. Quantity of the meat was fair, nothing special. It was pretty lean, I'll give it that. Mac and cheese was ordered as a side. It was simply decent. Reminiscent of elevated Kraft dinner one could fabricate at home with perhaps some of one's own cheese added in. $26 for 2 wasn't horrible I guess? We could've gone to Burger King and had flame broiled beef flavor for a lot less than that. At least BK would have left more in my wallet, and saved my weeping heart from disappointment. After all, I've been seeing Chap's on Food Network for YEARS and expected sooo much more. As an aside, the restroom is a safety hazard. There are no paper towels and the floor is soaking wet. I nearly slipped when exiting. Be careful of this, as well as your expectations, if you choose to visit. Star added because their "tiger sauce" is very tasty. It's a horseradish Mayo. Stay away from all the other sauces, especially their "house made" bbq. It's like sugary, watered down ketchup that had us both gagging. read more

I've never heard of it, but the sign and website says it's famous, so damn, I'm going to give it a try. I ordered pork ribs and burnt ends with a side of coleslaw. The cashier was friendly and helpful, and her eyes lit up when I asked her if the burnt ends were good!! When I saw that I had to get them. Ok, I know I'm from California, but what I got for burnt ends wasn't what I was expecting. Not that it was bad, but I was expecting brisket burnt ends. What I got was chunks of meat, probably beef, chicken, pork - not really sure what was in there. It looked like the end bits from meats that had been sliced for sandwiches. Mixed with some bbq sauce and hot sauce it was really pretty good. I also ordered a pound of pork ribs. I'm not the biggest fan of spare ribs, but these were really good.
