One of the cutest, coziest breakfast spots in Spokane!! Their breakfast rush is no joke, but we felt very welcome especially when Celeste the owner said hi to all of us. The avocado toast I got was bomb. The bread was thick and soft, the avo and tomatoes and mozzarella were fresh and the balsamic vinaigrette was the cherry on top. I love their food, but I'm also very impressed with their staff. The food is good. The setting is nice. The set-up is not customer friendly. Rather than being seated at a table, you stand in line to order. A long time. So rather than being seated and drinking coffee and talking with friends, you stand in line wondering why ordering from a limited menu takes so... long. Then you order and pay and they expect you to add a tip. Now, you haven't even seen your waiter yet. So the suggested amounts seem premature. And you end up doing most of the work yourself. Want coffee. Get it yourself. Want a second cup? Trudge inside and get it yourself. What do the servers do? Deliver the food then disappear forever. You expect 20% for that? The place is busy enough but I'll probably not return. Plenty of other great breakfast joints around that are better managed. read more

Really fucking good when you finally sit down and get your food but be prepared to have your patience tested. As others have noted the process upon entry is standing in this long and ill-defined line that hugs the bakery case and sorta snakes into the entryway and through where other people want to get past. It's awkward. Then you get to state your order like a sucker and pay in advance. Then you get to grab a little numbered placard and drag it to your table. Look, they're doing this at McDonalds. What're we thinking here? Also, paying in advance puts all your proverbial skin in the game before the food even comes out. What if they fuck it up? What if service sucks? It's a gamble and the house is structurally stacked against you. Food is great. Never had a problem with it and it surpasses expectation every time. In fact, if I've got out of town visitors this is one of THE places I want to bring them. Assuming you can go on a weekday. Or get there by the asscrack of opening of the weekend. Otherwise prepare to wait in the aforementioned lobby for 30 minutes+. Or not get sat at all. Anyway, you might be confused by my four star rating and relatively high word count percentage worth of bitching. It's my fault. Criticizing things is how I show love, which is how I've managed to alienate the affections of every kitschy breakfast joint from here to the East bank of the mighty Mississippi and down on to the olde muddy bayou... they never return my calls or tell me they love me in return. We had an amazing breakfast at Chaps today! The food was delicious and beautifully plated. The pastries are sooooooo good! I had an almond croissant and my friends had the pistachio croissant. The service was so nice and helpful. We were in line waiting to order and our 18 month old son was getting a little antsy. The owner came by to say hi and also to see if he was in need of anything. My son wanted her to hold him and she did and chatted with him a bit. Then she got him a blueberry scone to snack on while we waited in line. Super sweet and unexpected. She made sure to come by after and said hi to our son again. It was a wonderful experience! We will definitely be back. I only live about five minutes from Chaps so I and my family frequent Chaps quite often, usually for Breakfast and I have always been happy with what I've received for both Breakfast and Lunch. Tonight I decided to have dinner there, I ordered the Pendleton Sirloin. The over all experience was not up to the standard I had come to appreciate, I was seated promptly but then I guess it wasn't relayed that I was seated inside since most of the customers were seated outside. The one server that they had working came into the Bar area and noticed that there was a customer seated there and took my drink order and did come back in a reasonable amount of time with it. I offered my meal selection and off he went, I had all but finished my drink when my meal arrived. It was a disappointing experience, everything was barely above room temperature, the vegetables were tepid, the mashed potatoes were unappetizing as was the steak. I don't think I've ever had a steak quite so flavorless, it seemed to have been cooked well but it would have been better had it been hot. The server never did return after bringing me my food and the hostess had stopped by once before the meal arrived, after waiting quite a while I went ahead and went up to the counter and asked for the check. I may give Chaps another try at dinner if only to confirm that they should stick with breakfast and lunch but I hope to be proven wrong as we need more than just one place to eat in the Latah Valley. read more

Great food! I had the brie and bacon sandwich, which came with fries, and my husband had the Monte Cristo which was paired with hash browns. The table service is half measure; you get in line to order and then they bring the food to your table. We were never checked on the whole time we were there, which would've been great because we were really thirsty and needed more water. If there is a line to order, it goes pretty quickly. My bacon and brie sandwich was off the hook. The cashier told me that I was going to love it and she was right. I asked if I could substitute some salad greens instead of the fries to cut down on some of those coma inducing and Waste line expanding carbs, and I was pointed to a square on the napkin that stated that there are no substitutions. Of course they are happy to sell you and additional salad, I skip that because I was already paying 15 bucks or so for the sandwich. As I said, the sandwich was delicious. My husband loved his Monte Cristo as well. Our objection is that there is so much bread. The rosemary bread that the bacon and Bree was served done was delicious but each slice was about an inch thick. I couldn't even make it through half of a sandwich. So glad I did not order a salad to boot! I had a couple of the fries that came on the side. I believe they're called sidewinder fries. They're very very good, but it's just way too much with that mega bread sandwich. My husband felt the same way. Loved his sandwich, but the bread was so thick and the hashbrowns on the side were nonsensical. He equipped that if he ate everything on his plate he wouldn't be able to drive home. All in all, it's a great bistro. I hope they make some changes to the balance of their menu items, but even if they don't, I will be back. The next time I'll tell them not to even bother putting all those potatoes on the side. read more

We arrived when it wasn't too busy and were told our table but not told how ordering worked and didn't see anything that really led us to believe that you didn't seat yourself at the table they told you to go to. If you're going to pay with separate tabs, get in line, they'll tell you your table and then you order and tell your cashier which table you're assigned to. Great idea for a different experience of food! While you wait in line staff comes by and asks if you want inside or outside seating tell him your choice and he assigns you a number. Then you continue to wait in line to arrive at the counter to order your food and drinks and pay. You tell them your assigned table number and then to proceed to your table to wait on your food. No waiting for a waitress and no searching for an empty table! However, it took a long time for our food....and if you sit outside it was hot and you have to contend with flies! The hash browns are some of the best we have ever had. Perfectly salted and have some Italian seasoning. Beautiful patio that is dog friendly! We came on a Friday at 915am and we were the only ones out here. If you come on the weekend I hear it gets packed. Portion sizes are HUGE. Best brunch spot in Spokane. It gets busy around 10:30 so it's best to show up early if you don't want to wait in line. If you do have to wait, it is well worth it. Love this place! Much cuter in the spring/summer but such a cute restaurant and really like the vibe. It's a bit confusing at first (there's a ton of people) but you get in line to get seated. You pay for your food before you get it and there are tons of pastries you can add on for there or to go as well as a coffee bar. They give you your table seating and you seat yourself. We added on a cinnamon roll (it's more pastry flaky layered like than a traditional roll) and a coconut chocolate macadamia nut cookie. I ordered the garden scramble and it was so yummy! Big servings and the salsa was a great addition to the flavor. But the hash browns came in a block, a piece of wheat toast, and I got some avocado on the side. SO GOOD! Definitely recommend. The inside was busy, filled with beautiful decor and chandeliers. I love the live plants inside. To place and order you wait in line and then they seat you. The wait for the food was a little bit long, but worth the wait. We had some drinks while we waited. I love that the bloody Maria came with a mozzarella ball. I've had bad eggs Benedict in the past and this ultimate eggs Benny redeemed it for me. This ultimate eggs Benny comes with ham, spinach, tomato and mushrooms. Topped with hollandaise sauce and a wedge of lemon. Squeeze the lemon on top. So good. The English muffin was perfectly crisp. I love all the veggies that were included. My poached egg was a little well done , but I did not mind one bit. My gosh the hash browns were one of the best I have ever had. I love how crisp it was on the outside and cooked throughly. Seasoned so well that I did not use ketchup. I tried my friends custard oatmeal and that was the best oatmeal I have ever had. First, let me just say that yes, I like oatmeal... it's good but not something I would normally order when going out for breakfast because yeah.... it's oatmeal... but not at Chaps... their oatmeal is something else! I wish I knew how they made this magical deliciousness so badly! I have never had oatmeal that tastes this good. It is the perfect texture with just the right amount of sweetness and well blueberries... yes please!!! And scalded cream, OMG yaaassss!!!!! So ridiculous that fricking oatmeal can taste so good. And their bacon?! Cray good!!! Another must mention - their apple fritters are like nothing you have ever or will ever have again. AMAZEBALLS!!!!!!!!! It's like a cross between a doughnut and a croissant.... ooooohhhhh.... yeeeessss... flakey buttery apple yummmmm!!! You must try these! (I just made myself super hungry thinking about them!) Last night we went for restaurant week and the veal osso buco was to die for, and our group tried everything else on the menu and couldn't have been happier. We also go for brunch and it's honestly the best; the Brie bacon sandwich has saved me from horrid hangovers, the Gouda eggs Benedict chicken and waffles is the stuff of foodies dreams. Drinks - spot on, generously poured, great and innovative drink flavors. Probably the best full bar I've personally enjoyed in town Service - nails the trick of making you feel like you're special; even if they are super busy, you never have to wait too terribly long and the staff never has seemed overly stressed. Because they're a little out of the way, it's never so crazy busy you can't get in. Atmosphere - inside is kitschy and fun; not distracting, but clean and open.
