I found this place on Yelp whilst on a recent business trip to Spokane. It was walking distance from my hotel and the office and it was a 5-star experience on all fronts. Experience/Service: the place is cute cute cute! The service was top-notch, friendly, and genuine. Food: wow! A bakery this truly is. I had the opportunity to try several types of scones and some sort of almond roll and it was all delicious. I especially loved the lemon-blueberry scone and I normally don't even like lemon. If I had been in town more than 2 days I would have gone more. Price: normally I don't mention this because prices are in the eye of the beholder. But compared to my native SoCal the prices here were $1-2 less per drink. A latte and a huge home-baked scone for $10? Wouldn't happen elsewhere. So bravo for keeping prices reasonable. Seriously one of the cutest bakeries I have ever visited! The vibes were amazing with the atmosphere, the wall colors, the amazing plates, etc. And the food! Oh my gosh, it was soooo good! We tried a few different items. We had the lemon blueberry scone, a butter croissant, a chocolate croissant, and a cinnamon roll. Each one was delicious! We also had a couple of their fun coffee drinks and they were also amazing. One additional thing that I think sets this bakery apart from the others is how spacious it is. I feel like most bakeries are a bit cramped with their counter and the seating, but Rockwood Bakery feels very spacious for your coffee dates or a meet up with friends. Don't let the parking situation scare you(especially on a Saturday morning!) the staff is super efficient and you'll be through the line before you know it. Good coffee, friendly service, amazing food. We tried the ham and triple cheese quiche, ham and cheese burrito, ham and cheese croissant, chocolate chip cookie(super soft and incredible), cinnamon scone, and frosted gingerbread cookie. Such a cozy cafe and bakery!! You order at the counter before you pay, which helps get the orders moving quickly as there can be lines at time. If it's busy, turn around and leave. They'll screw up your order if you stay. Was in today. It's 82 degrees out. I have a person and a dog in the car waiting. Line is to the door. Foolishly, I stayed. Ordered two Italian sodas and some water. Both Italian sodas with no cream, yes whip. That's all. I had the receipt. Very clearly marked. Got the Italian sodas back. One had whip and no cream (correct). One had whip and cream added (incorrect). I told the attendant that the first soda was fine, but the second was not what I ordered. Screw-up 1. Hey, we're human, it happens. She took them back and went to redo. I thought she'd just redo the wrong one. Nope! She brought me two new Italian sodas. Neither had cream. Neither had whip. Screw-up 2. On BOTH, even though I specified that the first soda was fine. At this point I'm not only irritated, but concerned over the person & dog in the rapidly-warming car. Attendant offers to remake them all over again. Why? She'll just screw them up again. I took what was in front of me (not what I paid for) and left. Several screw-ups, delays, and essentially a minor rip-off. I won't make the mistake of going here & overpaying for screw-ups again, and I suggest you do the same. read more

Also got a fresh croissant. The croissant was perfect for me. Maybe but quite as crispy as some would like, but oh sooo buttery. My wife wasn't as happy with the apple muffin: didn't taste like apple. Also was pretty dense. Baking with apple sauce or butter would help. But, the real issue was the coffee. My double latte was weak, and that was only 12oz. Makes me think that they pulled the shot twice instead of making it a double. My wife said hey Americano was also mediocre. Maybe this should be a 2 star review? This is definitely a local meeting place. Maybe will have to give it another try and update the rating one way or another. read more

They had one gluten free muffin as their only gluten free offering but it was really good. Blueberry with a hint of almond flavoring and really moist. We had coffee and chai tea. I appreciated that our drinks weren't overly sweetened. They definitely need more gluten free items and preferably some kind of gluten free savory breakfast. I went in to this beautiful shop, the line was a bit long but worth it. The staff was friendly, and the food was good. I had a hot mocha (which comes in these atheistically pleasing cups) and a orange cinnamon roll. AND MY O MY, I still have dreams about this cinnamon roll. Is was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, they even heated it up for me. Also the atmosphere of the place made me feel like I was the main character of a romantic art novel. I decided to give Rockwood Bakery another try today since I hadn't visited in almost a year. Hoped for a better experience but it wasn't to be.The baked goods were burnt and stale and the girl that took our order was rude and glum.The barista was very nice and helpful. Rockwood bakery is a neighborhood institution. You can't go wrong on quality of food or service, and prices are on par with other coffee shops/bakeries. It's always clean inside, and they consistently perform at the top of their game. Bathrooms are clean. Atmosphere is warm and casual and there's a decent patio with ample seating. My only complaints are these: 1.) It can get crazy busy. Hardly a complaint really, so let's call it a word of warning. 2.) They sometimes close on random days / weekends with little or no warning. This is both a charming reminder of the "family business" nature of the shop, and a minor to moderate annoyance for those accustomed to the machine-like regularity of the chain retail world we've taken for granted. Perhaps you can follow them on Facebook or something for updates? In any case, a great place and we're glad to have it. Take the kids. They've got buckets of toys for the little buggers. read more

I haven't found a ton of atmospheres as wonderful as Rockwood Bakery for studying, but there is no wifi :-( I understand the charm of customers having real conversations with one another instead of being glued to a computer, don't get me wrong! It has a nice relaxed vibe with plenty of indoor seating and some outdoor seating as well. I arrived in the afternoon and there was a small line but it moved fast. We ordered a peanut butter cookie (very good!), an oatmeal raisin cookie (very large cookies), a cinnamon scone, an apple turnover, and a chicken chipotle sandwich. I was shocked it only came out to around $25, so as far as bakeries go it's reasonably priced. All of the baked goods were tasty however I was bummed they didn't heat any up or offer to. This place is amazing tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. Ample seating outside were you can soak up the fresh air while you visit with friends or you can sit inside. The place is well staffed. The selection is quite extensive. I would say it's in the $$-$$$ price range. However if you can get there early. You might be able to score 1/2 of yesterday's goods. Also a great way to try something new. I did have a plan in mind I was going to bring back about a dozen croissants. Even thought they are large. They are $3.50 a piece. So I opt to bring home a $25 apple pie. Its loaded with apples like a pie should be. I also tried a cookie 1/2 off the butterscotch. It is good , in my opinion could have uses less chips. read more

Came here for a quick pick me up on our long roadtrip and stumpled upon this place since the other coffee place (see chaps coffee review) was closed. It seems to be a converted house turned coffee shop and baked goods shop. Large interior with multiple tables and sofas. Also some seating outside too. I really liked how when you walk in the door you see the large counter and display case of baked goods but behind that all of the machines and contraptions to make the coffee and drinks. And behind that they have the kitchen. It looked pretty cool. We ordered a small caramel macchiato as well as an iced mocha. Also tried their cherry pie and an orange and berry scone. They warmed up the cherry pie and placed several dollops of whipped cream on top. This pie was to die for. Sweet and tart, a perfect combination with the coffee. I wished they warmed up the scone too because it was slightly hard and brittle. But the flavors were there, not overly sweet. The design ontop of the caramel macchiato could use some work. Looked like a blob of white stuff with no clear shape or design. But tasted good. The iced mocha was cold and refreshing as well. A perfect pick me up in the hot 100 degree temp of washington. This is a cool place to read, study or hang out with a cool cup of coffee and some baked treats. Definitely will be back to try other things on their menu. read more

This neighborhood is so delightful and my friend said they have "incredible coffee/drink concoctions and baked goods" so I had to go, so glad I did! I got an orange chocolate chip scone and a chai latte. Both were perfect and I'll definitely be going back. Street parking was pretty full but I found some close by.
