Really wanted to love this place because of the great reviews and amazing ambience/vibes, but the espresso was terrible and the pour over was watery. The espresso tasted over-extracted and burnt and the pour over left much to be desired. This might be more of a latte coffee place than espresso. On the plus side, the baristas were super nice! Inside, you'll immediately notice how spacious this shop is. They even have a second floor loft-style work-study, lounge area over looking the first floor. In addition to a diverse menu of coffee and tea, they offer bakery items. Their in-house bakery is dedicated to serving gluten-free, vegan, and keto goodies -- we ordered their gluten free donut and a savory egg, cheese and pesto sandwich. First Ave has some of the best food options of all the local coffee shops, and they're good about including vegan and gf options. I also really appreciate that their syrups are made in house which enables them to make creative flavor profiles. I hate spending $8 on a latte that uses syrups anyone can get. read more

Gluten free heaven! Gf and vegan donuts and gf biscuits? Sign me up! I ordered the gf pecan maple donut and the savory biscuit. Both hit the spot and were delicious, you can barely tell they are gluten free. The service was prompt and helpful. I loved my coffee cake, it was warm and soft but his cookie...wasn't really my favorite tbh Now, the thing is, I'm not really a coffee person--I'm more of a Red Bull girlie. But this place came highly recommended, so I had to give it a try! Honestly, the coffee was really good! It wasn't too strong, but it wasn't too sweet either. They make it exactly how you want it, even if you're a Keurig coffee drinker like me! But the star of the whole experience was really the coffee cake! I love this coffee house! Great vibe, ambience. Close to shopping and dining. I always get the keto donut - very good. I absolutely love their Cafe Sevilla - an orange cappuccino with steamed milk. My friend was with me last time and had a grilled cheese/pesto sandwich. She gave it the thumbs up - lots of "yums". Ample seating for groups or just on your own. Good enough gluten free options. Service very friendly. It's next to the Montvale hotel and you get 10% off at first avenue when you stay at the hotel next door. The coffee and tea is good albeit a little pricey. The gluten free cheddar onion biscuit was so salty I could barely eat it. That suggests whoever is cooking is an avid smoker of cigarettes as this habit usually yields a chef adding far too much salt. The gluten free panini was not on bread but rather a sort of flatbread which was good. The pesto was nice and garlicky but again so salty!!!! Still a good option for a gluten free person however it's not super safe since they put them all in the glass case next to each other with no protection on the gf items. read more

I'm in love with First Ave. (I think of the Minneapolis music venue when I say that). But let's talk about coffee. When they say damn good coffee they mean it. Even sparlking Rishi tea drinks from my former city of Milwaukee. Hello Wisconsin. The space is open and bright. It has an adorable loft as well. Lots of swanky lighting and wood tables. Let's talk about Roast House coffee because that's what they serve and it's so amazing. Sustainability is their priority and that's why they focus on the farmers. And they don't want you to drink nasty ass chemicals. Roast House deserves me to write them their own review but just know their coffee is sold and brewed here. My lattes and cortados are always perfect. Espresso pulled heavenly and the milk steamed to the proper temperature that leaves it to marry the Espresso in perfect bliss. They don't have soy milk. Many places have gone away for many reasons but I still prefer organic soy milk over the other alternatives. This is topic for in person discussions I sub oatmilk and it gets the job done. I can tell the barista care. And that's important to me. Oh and did I mention the treats. Yes. Divine and delicious house made treats. That coffee cake is epic. Biscuits with eggs baked right inside. I've tried F1rst Ave about 3 times now and their coffee is just okay which is unfortunate since I love their ethical practices! They make their syrups in house which I also love so much, I just wish they were more flavorful for the price point. There is a drop in space for those with wfh and even a large meeting area. Their pastries are what I go for though! And their associates are kind and very friendly. I'll stop in to try a few more flavors but for now they're sitting at a 3 for me. read more

Gosh! I wish I wasn't writing this. First Avenue coffee was one of my favorite places in Spokane. One of the only places in town. That was aware of additives and ingredients. Also, they have some of the best customer service in town. Unfortunately, this is shifted with the new owners. I just went for a third visit. That disappointed me. They've shifted two ingredients like a super sweet, golden milk or sugary glutenous baked. When I asked to give them feedback, they offered no Clare channels to do that with a lot of attitude. It struck me walking in that this place would be able to handle a dry cappuccino, and my gut was correct. These baristas know their stuff! They also have an inviting array of sweet treats up front. Roast house is my favorite coffee in town. I absolutely love it! The smell, taste, everything. This space at 1st avenue coffee is so cool. It's trendy, relaxing, open, well lit, and just comfy. I actually had my baby shower here years ago - 4 1/2 years now - and it was amazing. The staff, the location, and everything was great. I continue to come here when I'm downtown in the morning for spin. Go to my spin class, drink coffee, and just relax before getting back to my life. Wanted to get some fresh donuts, and we were only a couple blocks away from First Ave Coffee. I tried the one with the peanut butter cup in the middle, husband tried the oatmeal bar and then bought a maple one too. We didn't get coffee there, but they had plenty of options like a pour over and espressos. The donuts were dense and tasted cake like. Not sure if they are baked or fried, but tasted good either way. The ganache on the peanut butter donut was rich and very chocolatey, and the peanut butter cup was a good balance.
