The food was good but the wait staff - well seemed like everyone who worked there - weren't friendly at all. We were being yelled at to move once we got there, got the evil eye when I was trying to explain to the guy that what he was trying to give me wasn't what I ordered, and not once did anyone check on us to see how the food was. My over easy eggs were good but another was runny like sunny side up. We didn't get an itemized receipt so not sure if I paid more for the item they were trying to give me but didn't order. And finally, didn't like that we tip in advance. Whatever we tipped was probably more than I would have in the end. I give them a 3 star because the ambience was cool and the food was good overall. My sister ordered my favorite Lemon Chiffon Cake to bring all the way to Seattle for my birthday. The surprise was that it was a plain cake with frosting. NOT lemon. Disappointed. Called and explained our disappointment and Tracy(?) responded she was sorry we couldn't "taste" the lemon. There was no lemon in that cake. Not a very good response for a not very good cake. There were no apologies for a mistake, no ownership at all. I didn't ask for anything just wanted to let them know to be aware. Nothing. Went here for breakfast about a year ago and have been thinking about it ever since. Just freaking delicious. I had the veggie omelet, which was very fresh, and I appreciate the two eggs. (The typical three egg omelet is a little excessive, America excessive.) But anyhow, love the little coffee shop area with great looking pastries. I tried one but can't remember what specifically. I was not impressed with the blueberry french toast that everyone is raving about. It was basically a little dried-out blueberry cake that you put syrup on. It did not resemble french toast at all. Our eggs were both runny despite asking for well-done. There wasn't much flavor to the meat lovers scramble. However, the biscuits and gravy were very tasty!! We both liked the atmosphere there. One of my favorite breakfast places of all time. It is great. The baked goods are amazing. There is an awesome selection, and everything is huge. You can tell all of the ingredients are fresh. If you don't go for the pastries, the hot breakfast options are great as well. There are a lot of different options, and the portions are great. My one and only gripe is the coffee. There are usually two of those vacuum dispensers for the drip coffee, but almost every time I have gone (I've been a lot), the coffee is always almost empty or luke warm. It isn't a huge deal, and the staff always refills it if someone mentions it, but maybe figure out a new way to serve it. As for dinner, that is top notch as well. There is also a really neat full bar. The decor and atmosphere of the place is great as well. Being that it isn't far from town, it is certainly worth a trip. read more

I went here with a friend around 10:30 am on a Saturday morning. It was kinda confusing when you first walk in because you're suppose to grab your own menu which is different than most restaurants. Then once you pick what you want, you go to the counter to order and then are seated. Kinda silly, but I'm down for the experience. Seating took awhile so that was the only downside, but I got a decent sized meal of eggs, toast, hash browns and biscuits and gravy and it was delectable! Then the mimosa I ordered was to die for! Hands down best mimosa ever! It's priced about the same as other breakfast places. The seating kinda sucked too. They had super comfy chairs or "lawn chairs" and unfortunately we got lawn chairs so my butt was numb after 30 mins. But I would definitely go back and will make sure I get a comfy seat this time! read more

My first visit was last weekend right after I landed in Spokane. Generous portions, hearty good cafe food and served on the plate i that fashion. Probably won't win a visual plating competition, but few cafes would. The service is very good - coming from Los Angeles and NY, perhaps the service is too friendly - is that possible? Anyway, right now I'm a fan (4 Stars). Perhaps after the next visit, I will go to 5 stars. Not sure what will take me there ... The service was wonderful, the atmosphere is great. This place is fantastic! Aside from the long wait, the food is spectacular! I was accompanied by 4 other adults and we all tried something different on the menu. Went to a late lunch - monthly treat with a friend. Asked for a wine list - requested wine prior to ordering so could visit - offered a credit card for the wine - were told to wait and pay for it when ordering food. Guy who brought the wine to the table was obviously irritated - very rude - proceeded to scold us "for future reference" pay for everything first. We told him we had offered a credit card when ordering the wine - he continued to scold us "for future reference". We sat at a table inside and were immediately swatting at flies - the place was full of them. When our food came (excellent salmon) we carried our food, etc to an outside table - no flies outside! About 3/4 through lunch and obviously still eating, a person came and asked us if we needed boxes - told her no - she reached for my plate and I had to tell her I was not finished with my food! "For future reference" there will not be a future for us at this place. read more

The most magical place on earth. Like Disneyland for chubby antique loving girls. I had a ham and cheese croissant (suck it low carb diet). My friend had the oatmeal and it looked stellar as well. Went here on a Tuesday morning with my husband and 2 kids. Was slightly disappointed by the limited menu they say they offer during the week, was looking forward to trying the blueberry muffin French toast we saw on Triple D. We ended up ordering biscuits and gravy, I got the half order, my husband the full & the kids split a regular French toast. We were definitely satisfied with our meals. The gravy for the biscuits was amazing & was not too heavy. The half portion was perfect for me & I was still unable to finish it. The potatoes that came with all the entrees were delicious! The kids both enjoyed their meal as well. Really great service, friendly employees. We will definitely go back on the weekend next time so we can try some of the other items not offered during the week. read more

( the gentleman that brought out our food was the only person that had good customer service) Everyone was so busy getting ready for Christmas parties that they forgot their doors were open. No greeting. Shuffled to other room. While waiting to order, not even acknowledged as she was busy conversing with other employees about getting ready for that evenings Christmas party. 1 breakfast menu and 1 lunch menu given to four people? The only thing good about this place is the live music on Thursday nights. The staff is just plain rude. Everytime I have been there I have issues with the staff from being told I can't watch the music because I wasn't eating dinner. To being ignored sitting outside even though I went in to be seated. The wait to be seated was a little long, however I went on a Sunday morning, so that was to be expected. I had to the Blueberry Muffin French Toast, which was beyond amazing. One of my favorite breakfast places. When you go on the weekend they have a larger breakfast menu. The baked oatmeal is amazing. Sweet, but not too sweet, with blueberries and fresh cream. Never had any like it. The chorizo omelette is amazing as well. Not too greasy either. As far as bakery items go, they all look amazing. I have tried the cherry turnover and the cinnamon roll. Chaps is a very quaint restaurant and once you walk in you will realize that the building was not meant to be one, but they've made it work quite well and it gives are very personal and homey feel. The menu is never very large and you pay before you eat (which I prefer) but it always is full of great options. Weekends have different menus which I think have better options more of the time but it is never bad any of the other days of the week. Their pastries and scones are killer. The omelets are good. If you get the chance, you must try the Blueberry Muffin French Toast. It is exactly what it says. Muffin dough in french toast form. Tastiest french toast of my life.
