Great steak house. Our first time coming here. The seating area is a bit close for comfort. The decoration style is industrial with a bit of flower flair. We started off with shrimp cocktail. Polenta fries and mussels. The polenta fries were a generous portion creamy and flavorful on inside with a nice crispy crunch on outside. The shrimp cocktail was normal shrimp cocktail. The mussels were very good and had sausage cut up super fine to add to the flavor. My husband had the duck confit and said it was amazing full of flavor and super tender. I had the filet which was very good it had a touch of a blackened seasoning on it with roasted garlic on the side. We also got truffle fries to share and mushrooms which were both fabulous. Chaplin was recommended by good friends of ours. Fellow foodies and we share similar tastes As we reach Chaplin and stroll through the front door my initial focus of this unique space went to the green & black tiles on the back bar. Hanging over the black marble bar, assorted size light bulbs hang from the ceiling. I would describe it as a nifty, stylish look. We ask to sit in the bar area, so the friendly hostess sat us at a two top table across from the bar. It had a enjoyable summertime feel with the large windows in the bar area. The space is relaxing and serene with a somewhat hip-vibey aura. We sat down and our server Walter walked over to greet us and introduced himself. He handed us some menus and pointed out some Happy Hour selections. Walter was accommodating, friendly and informative during our dining experience. He had options about the food, which is something I like when I go out to have a dining experience. In my opinion, no one has more "Intel" of what people order and enjoy then the service staff. (Thanks WALTER ) I order the hand crafted Whiskey Tart with blood orange liqueur, blood orange juice, egg white, and garnished with a slice of dried blood orange. We also ordered the refreshing housemade red sangria, packed with fruity yet savory balance. We picked two items from the Happy Hour menu for our appetizers, Prime Beef tips au poivre and Broiled little neck clams with garlic butter and fresh bread crumbs. Beef tips were peppery and booming with herbs and flavor, served with a silky potato mash and nutty mushrooms. Just the ideal "COMFORTING"appetizer. The little necks were fresh buttery and sprinkled with a crumbled crisp bread crumb topped with a slice of peppadew perfect balance of sweet, tangy, crunchy zip. The entrees we chose are Steak Frittes Watercress, salad, french fries, and béarnaise sauce and Faroe Island Salmon, Cara cara orange , fennel, citrus Beurre Blanc. Steak was a skirt steak, perfectly cooked to my request, tender and zippy. Fries were crisp and sprinkled with a proper touch of salt. Watercress salad was fresh and peppery, and creamy béarnaise (perfect touch of tarragon) was the perfect combination. The salmon was bright cooked perfectly, skin on and crisp. The dish had a perfect balance of citrus, savory, and salt. The entrees were impeccable. We weren't sure about ordering dessert but after we relaxed a bit, we decided to split one, and boy was that a good idea. The Vanilla Semifreddo with oat crumble , blackberry compote, and the slightest fresh mint. It was scrumptious. As you might guess, I will be back and highly suggest others try as well. Great place! Beautiful, contemporary atmosphere and decor. Great location in the heart of downtown Shelton. We walked in on a Saturday evening and were able to grab a table by the bar. Our sever was great! Offered many suggestions for drinks and apps as this was our first time there. He was spot on. We enjoyed our drinks and apps for sure. Drinks were well balanced and tasty. We shared a few small plates- steak tartare, a salad, and a bread app with various spreads. Really enjoyed everything we had. The tartare had excellent, bright flavor. The salad was refreshing. The food and ambiance of this restaurant were great. It's a very well decorated restaurant. We found the music to be a little loud and they didn't dim the lighting for the evening but those were minor things. The drinks were out of this world. All the drinks with egg white I find are light and not overly sweet. For food we ordered the half chicken and the burger, which was amazing! The bread was not what I expected for 5 dollars, didn't really taste like sourdough. We mostly struggled with the service. It was just a bit painfully slow. I think we saw the woman who gave us water more often than our waiter. The drinks were also quite slow. Could have been a rough night for them, I would definitely try it again, but it was just tough. In Shelton in a downtown area with traffic. I ordered Steak Frites and it was good, the meat was nicely seasoned, but quite a bit of gristle and the salad was very spicy. Overall pretty good. The filet was a better option with mashed potatoes and asparagus. We sat on the patio which was nice, if you don't mind the Harley's driving by. Took my Son here for his 18th birthday on Oct 12th, a Saturday evening. 7:30 reservation, place was very busy. Gorgeous room, yet patrons were wearing baseball hats. Who does this? Why is this acceptable? C'mon, raise your game! If I'm paying $55 bucks for a petit filet I'd like to be in a room with other well dressed diners. Our waiter was too young & poorly trained. He never offered the specials, I had to ask and then sadly he said "I can't pronounce them" so he handed me the paper with the specials that said 'Read to guests' right across the top. I'm not making this up. I ordered the filet med rare, it came out well done. After flagging down the waiter, I sent the filet back and waited for a new serving at the correct temperature. NO manager or owner ever appeared to apologize for the error. We did not stay for dessert, the waiter even had trouble processing my credit card as he was entering it incorrectly. I wanted to love it, but we did not. My Son enjoyed his steak frites, the halibut special was ok. Sadly, the best dish was the beet & goat cheese salad, it was delicious. read more

We dined here for the very first time last night to celebrate my 23rd birthday. We were greeted by a polite hostess who brought us right to our table. As we looked over the drink menu, our amazing server, Walter, came right over and offered suggestions if we had any questions! The red sangria tasted like summer in a glass, fruity but not too sweet. It just looked gorgeous. I had the petit filet as my entree which came with garlic whipped potatoes topped with caramelized onions and gorgonzola dolce butter on the side. It was perfectly medium rare and incredibly tender. The whipped potatoes and caramelized onions balanced nicely together with the sweetness from the onions and garlicky potatoes. Normally, I'm not a fan of Gorgonzola but the butter enhanced the steak nicely. Since it was on the side, which I appreciated, I could control how much I wanted to use. My mom got the charred octopus with ajo blanco, gigante beans and watercress which she thoroughly enjoyed. It was plated beautifully, as you can see. The gigante beans were wonderfully marinated so all of the flavors meshed extremely well together. The indoor decor is beautiful, we loved the florals on the wall and the green chairs which made it feel welcoming and bright, especially as the sun was setting. We had such a great time, which is very much due to how helpful and attentive Walter was throughout our dining experience, and can't wait to come back to try the other options on the menu! read more

It was an 8 oz steak but they ran out so I had to get the 10 oz which is too much for me but I really wanted the meal so I accepted. My steak was not cooked correctly. A few of my friends steaks were not as well. So maybe the chef can work on that considering the prices here are higher than most places. My meal was served on top of mashed potatoes and I was confused on how my steak was over cooked (well done) but my potatoes were sitting in blood? It was a huge turn off but we waited a while for our food so I ate it. My boyfriend ordered the pork chop, it was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. My sister got the half chicken with polenta which was delicious. My bestie ordered the octopus which I normally do not eat, but tried and it was cooked perfectly! Tho I was not satisfied fully with my meal we did have alot of great food. The restaurant is beautiful and we did enjoy ourselves. My husband and I wanted to try something new for our anniversary. We heard good things about Chaplin. My husband made the reservation. We were early and they were able to accommodate us. We sat on the outdoor heated patio. My husband got some oysters to start and I got the burrata. I am typically not so critical, but am going to g to be here due to the price points. The burrata was served with cucumbers, Roma tomatoes, and croutons. The vinegar flavor was rather overwhelming and the croutons were soggy. The burrata advertised on the online menu included arugula, balsamic glaze, and vanilla vodka poached pears. I would have preferred that immensely to the burrata on the restaurant menu with tomato, cucumber, soggy croutons that I got. For my entree I got the petite filet ordered medium rare. It came with a small dollop of whipped potatoes topped with caramelized onion and a side of dolce butter. This was all that was on the plate. No vegetable side (which was to be expected because it wasn't on the menu and I almost got a side of asparagus for an extra $7 - I am glad I didn't). For $55 for just the entree, I expected more than a small scoop of potato and no vegetables or even any garnish to make the plate more appealing). AND for $55 I expect that tiny piece of filet to be near perfect. Sadly it was not. There were several bites that were inedible. The dolce butter was disappointing. My husband got the charred octopus and loved it so no complaints there. On a positive note, the waitress brought over complimentary champagne for us for our anniversary which was very considerate and appreciated ! We don't usually order dessert, but did since it was a special occasion. It took forever to come which was crazy since they just had to put a piece of cheesecake on a plate. Overall, I will say that for a meal that cost what we pay for a week of groceries for our family of 5, I certainly expected better. read more

This might be a little controversial. Don't get me wrong, the food here is amazing. Like really great. The service is amazing. The ambiance and the seating are great too. I'm giving this a one star because of this. The owner was a nice guy, meeting him once while having dinner. However, if you're a Shelton native, you would know that across the street used to be a nice little park. Shelton has become a nightmare with all the construction and urbanism. The little park was a breath of fresh air. But instead, the owner bought the land, tore down the park, to put the stupidest parking lot ever. A paid lot. Did he not realize there's 2-3 huge free parking lots right around every corner? 2 commuter lots, the post office, even the Wells Fargo bank. I've yet to even see anyone park in this lot, except for maybe fireworks. I heard he did it because people complained about no parking, which just sounds dumb. It's honestly ridiculous. This place isn't cheap either, did he really need another source of income in this manner? I don't know how much it costs to park there, but with all the free parking, I would never consider it. My family refuses to eat here now because of that, and we loved it. We used to see kids and people meeting and hanging out in the shade of the nice little park. It just added to the chaos of downtown. It's so ugly I hate even driving by this place. If that kind of manner doesn't bother you, you'll really enjoy this place. Again, food and service are amazing. Visited for drinks and app's. Decor is lovely. There were plenty of accommodating staff to quickly attend to any request. Our waitress, Sara, was wonderful. We ordered oysters ( Mystic) which were fresh and delicious. Then we had clam chowder ( star of the evening.. unique, plenty of clams and deliciously seasoned), polenta fries were very filling and a new treat.
