My friend gave me the scoop on this spot during my January Austin trip so it was only appropriate we'd pay this place a visit and check it out. Located on Justin Lane, it fits right into the small shopping area on the slant. As you roll in, you'll be surrounded by crates upon crates of records that are new and pre-owned. While mostly classic rock, jazz, and some country, you will find rap/hip-hop, r&b, pop, international, and soundtracks here. There's also a listening station if you want to sample a record before purchase (anything that's not sealed of course). While prices of vinyl have gone up as the industry is under attack by that ugly thing called inflation, there are some bargain bin records available in the store. Most are in average to below-average condition but you can find some good things there if you're patient with your browsing. There's also some seating to rest yourself as you go through whatever purchases you have. T-shirts, CDs, stickers, and some posters are for sale too. But that's not why you're here, the vinyl is the main draw obviously. And this store is probably my favorite for that in Austin at the moment!

Their jazz selection is always great, their electronic section is strong, hip-hop and soul are well represented, and their indie and country collections are absolutely killer as well. The staff is always very friendly, especially the owner, who is normally moving around the shop making sure everything is going smoothly. Even compared to other shops, they have a larger selection of cassettes than most. This place feels connected to the community. At their busiest times, parking can be kind of a hassle. They have a decent number of spots, but there is more space in their shop for customers than parking spots outside. It is especially intense if they are hosting listening parties that allow customers to hear new albums early. The only downside of that is that people will congregate in spaces and stand around to listen to the album, which can block off some sections from access, but that is more of a customer issue than an issue with the shop itself. Prices are pretty on par with modern records, but sometimes you can get lucky and find some used gems for a decent price. I got this Dire Straights Brothers in Arms cassette for $3. What a steal! This is easily the best record store and music shop in town.

I think the last one I purchased was from year 23 which was the last time I was at Waterloo.

It is fun to explore record stores for potential gifts as well as reminisce about music during different periods of time. It is important to note that the record shop is clean, well-organized and nicely labeled making records super easy to find. The prices at Antone's Record shop is similar to comparable other record shops. Also, parking is limited to small number of parking spaces nearby. Service at Antone's was friendly and welcoming.

When I first walked in I was a little overwhelmed. It's pretty small and there is stuff everywhere! Some collectibles, lots of cassettes and a nice vinyl section. I found two records I really wanted, one was overpriced for my taste and I bought the other. An obscure German metal band from the 80's. There was a scratch that concerned me, so the owner of the store put it on the turntable and it played right thru it. I have no doubt there were other gems in the store but I was short on time (the wife was waiting in the car).

My sister and I first visited this store at another location over a decade ago when Quincy was the music store cat :) ! Quincy has since passed away. And now, Louis, an adorable tuxedo cat, is the current store cat :) ! Louis has his own merch for fans like us who absolutely adore him :D ! My sister has frequented Austin more often than I have, and always makes an effort to stop by here when she is in town :) ! Ever since the store moved from its original location in downtown to its current location today :) ! There is even a section and a window display dedicated to the one and only Dolly Parton :) ! You can find all kinds of quirky merchandise items, like stylish and fun mugs, magnets, games, clothing, vinyl record decorations, miniature guitars, and art work :D ! You can never get bored in this store :) ! And amazingly, most of these quality items are very reasonably priced :) ! My sister thought a kitty record-designed scratch board for her friend that was only about $13. I found some cool piano socks and scarves to purchase for friends :) ! With the bag on and the strap completely stretched out it barely hit her hip. We walked right back into the store to return it. They do not do returns and there are absolutely zero signs stating this. The person working today was glued to her phone so didn't hear when we originally asked for help. I told her that it's sketchy not to have signs posted stating that they don't do refunds. She said that she just works there. I then ask for a number to someone that can assist in getting signs posted. She doesn't have a number. Convenient. I then say if you have an issue with your paycheck who do you call. She stated my boss. I said perfect I'll call that number. She stated she would not give me her bosses number. I said ok then you can message them and tell them you have a disgruntled customer and have them call the store. She flat out refused to help. I had to call an entirely different store to try and get changes made. It's fishy not to have signs posted about no refunds. We have been into this store MANY times and have bought many things here. One of the best selling points and features of Piranha is that for every $20 spent, you get a $1 wooden coin back, so you get a 20:1 ratio of money back on all purchases. It may not mean much, but after stockpiling 15 wooden coins and blowing them on a record, the feeling is unbeaten. The staff is humorous and great. After Record Store Day last year, I pulled up after failing to grab a copy of the Blue Notes Alts n Ins record, and the owner gave me props for grabbing it because he personally thought it was one of the coolest releases in the collection. He asked if I had come there just to buy it or stumbled upon it. I told him I was seeking it out, and I got the nod of approval. Best day of my life. I do not think this record store has much of a purpose to visit if you are deep in Austin, since independent stores in Austin have pretty similar stock, but living in Hutto and for the people in Round Rock and Georgetown, this is a great spot and a place I love to support.
