I've used Holland Photo a couple of times and have always been satisfied with the quality of the prints. This last time they really saved the day after UPS lost my prints from a reputable online photography service. I sent Holland a slew of 5 by 7's as well as a larger print for a gallery wall and they were able to print within 1 business day after I submitted all prints to them online. I called them a couple times to check the status of the prints and they were always friendly. They are conveniently located off of South Lamar and have a few spots available for parking. read more

Great place to get things developed especially if you want a quality print. If you aren't a pro, just know that you have to specify if you want the film developed. First time I went I didn't know and when I showed up to pick up my film it was just negatives. Which I now realize is great because you can then have only what you want developed from them instead of paying for photos that didn't turn out. Would recommend! read more

If you're looking for a professional-grade film developing lab in Austin, look no further! Even with their professional grade dip n' dunk machine (look ma! no scratches!) they were able to turn around my c41 and b&w 4x5 and 120 in less than a day. However, if you do have a critical deadline, I would call ahead and double check their workload. Sarah at the front also informed me they don't charge for any rolls/sheets that come back blank (as of March 2022). I have found that's a rare accommodation these days. But I'm told they want to encourage people of all skill levels to try film! Their prices here are great, too! read more

I had an old photo enlarged for a birthday party, and service was great and on-time, and the price was fair.

I came in for prints, and then also digital files. I had slides. The prints were done expertly, but they said they needed time for the files. Months later, I had not received the files. I guess they said they tried to contact me. In truth they did. But in the robocall era, I did not pick up. When I got back in touch with them later. They had actually tried to contact me. However, the young woman at the counter did not pay attention as how to spell my name or my email. As a result, they eventually threw out my slides. That's on them. I never received the mis-sent email because of lack of attention. People who bring in slides most likely don't want them disposed. By the way, two slides are about the size of two saltine crackers put together. It's not like they are storing my refridgerator. They threw out my slides. There is no logical reason for this. Great people, great prints. However, idiotic management of material. I give a 3 out of 5 because what they came through with was great. However, their management of my material was poor enough that I will never do business with them again. Not smart people. read more

I have been using this lab for over 10 years. I am a professional photographer, with work in galleries, museums and National Geographic. After moving away from Austin 5 years ago I tested various labs around where I lived and finally concluded I was sent with my film being sent back to Holland all my film processing and scanning and the printing I didn't want to do at home. Quality is of the upmost importance to me and I know that I will receive this highest quality form them. They also have great costumer service and alway support my needs. read more

I love Holland Photo and I trust them with my film but I bought a camera from them for $135 with the trust that it had been reviewed and in working condition but when I put a roll through it it stopped working. So I went in and asked if they can help me figure out what happened or if I could return it and they said I should "take it to precision camera" why did I spend $135 on a camera with the Holland guarantee if they aren't going to help me when it breaks in the same month I bought it. Don't buy cameras from them. You might as well just try your luck at goodwill read more

I used to frequent Holland Labs when they were situated on MLK at the end of Guadalupe and I was a starving young photography student. They were one of the two recommended labs in town for developing photos. So when I needed some slides converted to JPEG files in a hurry, I wasn't surprised when their name came up. I was a little bummed that I had to drive all the way to S. Lamar to find them, but such is the way of rising rents in Austin. They're now in a tiny space halfway down the row in a strip-mall that looks rather industrial, but they're worth the hunt if you need quality photo imaging at a reasonable price. They turned around my rush project in record time, as they give priority to items needed for memorial/funeral services at no extra charge. I took them two more non-rush orders afterward, progressively larger each time, and each time, they came through with quality and on time as promised. There's absolutely nothing fancy about their space, but their work is still outstanding. read more

Like another reviewer from May, I was also in town briefly as I was on a road trip and had some film I wanted to get developed. So I dropped off 4 rolls of Tri-X film and 2 disposable cameras, as well as my boyfriend's film that he wanted developed. I informed the girl at the front who was very nice that we would be leaving soon and she said she'd make a note of it but that I should expect for it to be ready after the weekend (so 4-5 days). That seemed fine to me. The next morning I got a phone call informing me that my film was ready. I was shocked as it had been less than 24 hours and that didn't seem normal. So my boyfriend and I went in to get the photos and lo and behold only 2 of my rolls were done...why would you call customers and tell them their order is ready when only 2/8 rolls were ready? What a waste of time...so slightly annoyed I left and awaited a second phone call. That second phone call never came. I called the day before I was supposed to leave and they informed me everything was in fact ready. When I got there, I was confused because I had dropped off 4 rolls and there were only 3 sheets. The girl at the front just said casually, oh yeah one of your rolls was blank. I just don't understand the lack of communication with this store...you shouldn't call customers and make them drive all the way there (we weren't staying nearby), when the whole order is ready. Why don't you mention that on the phone? Or just call when the whole pickup is good to go? It makes no sense. It also makes no sense that I didn't even get a phone call once the SIX others were ready. I could have left just like that other reviewer and never gotten my pictures because they didn't care to call me again. The process shouldn't be that frustrating--you shouldn't have to be chasing them for your photos and you definitely shouldn't find out AFTER you ask that one roll was blank. You should be informed. read more

This place is a great business that has grown exponentially over the years. The staff is ultra knowledgable about film or prints questions you might have. Personal faves are Jamie, Morgan or Brian but trust anyone up there. Great place for getting high quality photo / art prints too. Might take a day or two but well worth the wait. read more

This place is exceptional at what they do. I have been getting my film developed here for over a year and the prices are great and they always return my images within a week and a half. However, there is one older gentleman that works here that without fail makes me extremely uncomfortable everytime I come. He always urges me to take my mask off (which I am especially not comfortable with) and will sometimes make weird comments. It's really such a shame because it is such a nice establishment but I can't help but feel extremely anxious going for fear he will be working. read more

Been having metallic-finished prints made here for about a year. And the staff somehow manages to "nail it" just about every time. Rarely does anything ever have to be reprinted, and when it does.. there's never an argument about it. I never send my film anywhere else. This place goes above and beyond when it comes to taking care of your pictures. They make amazing prints and actually work on getting the best end product for you. I've never seen that anywhere else. I've actually had rolls ruined when I sent them elsewhere. Holland is pricey, but more than worth it. If you're a photographer without access to a darkroom (or a darkroom that can process the way you need), this is the place you SHOULD go if you actually care about your images. They do cross-processing, digital prints, mounting, EVERYTHING. You can choose just to develop, or develop and get a proof sheet, or prints. They work with artists and will work around your schedule if you have an upcoming show or deadline. Oh, and ask for FULL FRAME when ordering. If not, they automatically crop your photos. It's not bad that they do it, and it always looks good. But for me, I take pictures and consider every corner - and I don't always like having that consideration cropped. Tons of options. Friendly service. Fast service (about 3 days for developing and prints). A very reliable place. read more

This is by far the best place in town to get photos printed. They are one of the last places in the area to be fully Kodak certified for all processing. The folks that work there are really friendly and easy to work with. A lot of people go to Precision Photo for their printing, but for the larger prints, even Precision outsources the work to these guys so you'll save yourself some time by just going down to Holland yourself. Meredith hit it on the head that they're definitely pricey, but then again if you're shopping at Holland you're not really looking for 29 cent copies that are on par with Walgreens. Honestly, my husband should review this place as he is the photographer. However, I went with him to get photos printed for Christmas gifts and picked the photos up myself. Have to say they turned out perfectly. The staff who helped us were friendly, patient (husband is a bit of a wordy fellow), and knowledgeable. Pricing was just right and everyone loved the photos. We went to Holland because that is who used to do all the fancy photo printing when my husband was in college for Photojournalism and constantly processing film. Wouldn't go anywhere. read more

The best of the best! I'll say, during quarantine the people that are still working have not been the most pleasant, but that sure wasn't the case here! Devastatingly, my mother-in-law passed away (not covid related) and we needed to get all of her old home photos scanned and put into a slide show for her funeral. The wait/turn around time for scanning pictures at Holland Photo Imaging was about 2 weeks so when I mentioned that wouldn't work because the funeral was in a few days they made my order a priority and got them back to me the next day! They even organized the photos in folders on my flash drive for me! And in between the time I dropped off and picked up the photos I realized I needed an obituary photo so I send them a screenshot of the photos we needed and they scanned those first and emailed them to me right away so I could send them to the funeral home and get her obituary printed asap. I couldn't thank Holland Photo Imaging enough for being so accommodating during such a difficult time. Everyone there that I spoke with during the process (like 3-4 different people) was an absolute delight! Will definitely be giving them more of my business in the future & HIGHLY recommend! read more

Update: Brian, I appreciate your comments and understand what you explained. I stand by what I said about interacting with employees - everyone was sincerely nice. Your staff is courteous and friendly. The 5-6 photos weren't torn and were are in pretty good shape. I just wanted some highlighting on the faces and one photo I wanted the face fuzziness cleared up. The scanning is required for this, but I feel what I brought the photos in for did not occur. I could not give the photos as gifts as a result. I appreciate the time you gave me. I wanted to share some feedback about my experience. ----- I called regarding having some old photos restored and then copied. I planned to give them as gifts to family members as we have lost quite a few loved ones recently. I asked about time frames because the holidays were fast approaching. Again, each employee I spoke to was respectful and nice. I brought my photos in and was quoted one week for processing. Again, the employee was nice and helpful. My order was ready as promised and I drove through rush hour traffic the Friday before Christmas to get the order. The next morning when I looked over the "restored" photos it was clear they had been copied and slight enlarged, but not restored at all. I called and the employee was really nice and we discussed that I would give my family members my original photos after scanning them myself. We discussed a refund since the $71 I paid in cash was mostly fees for restoration. Getting my actual refund was more problematic and disappointing than I expected. It took two weeks - yes, the owner called and unfortunately I was dealing with a car issue and I had to call him back later that day. I missed him, but gave my information, including my card number for the refund, to another employee before New Year's Day. I just got my refund of $18 and change via Paypal. I had to create a Paypal account for the refund and then Paypal charged me for the experience. Getting $18 back, and paying a price to use Paypal which Holland Photo selected for my tiny refund, after paying $71 for a restoration that didn't happen has me VERY UNHAPPY. I will not go back - I feel like I was ripped off for paying over $50 for photos that weren't restored. I could have copied the photos with my own scanners if that was all I wanted and not have paid such a hefty price for those scans. read more
