I love them!! I'm newer to film cameras and was really intimidated after wanting to get into it again as an adult. I took my family's old film camera to see if it was working to one store and they gave me a negative outlook, so I took it here for a second opinion and the fix was comically easy :') I've only interacted significantly with two employees, but they were both amazing and willing to answer my questions without making me feel dumb. They also dealt with me opening some blind box charmeras with as much excitement as me, so I love them downnnnnnnnn!! I might be getting lucky with the two positive visits thus far, but I did try another film camera store recently and felt uncomfortable the entire time unfortunately AND they overpriced the same charmeras so I will be sticking with them from now for sure for sure. read more

I came here during the week with a friend so she could get some film developed. Apparently, they develop film cheaper than some shop down the street from what she was telling me but it just takes longer to get it back? I only own polaroids. Some new. Some vintage. They had really fun accessories like tripods and neck straps that I would like to go back for some time. I picked up a few packs of film which were standard price. I take photos only recreationally (with a disposable camera or film camera) and Austin Camera was very kind, friendly (as a newbie, I didn't feel out of place or ostracized), and straightforward. Specifically, Alan is the employee who worked with me. Just from our brief interaction, I could tell that he is extremely kindhearted. He was also, of course, very knowledgeable about all the things I was in the dark about and gave his recommendations for my prints (matte vs. glossy, border vs. no border, standard resolution vs. high resolution). Parking/getting there was tricky: when I routed to Austin Camera & Imaging, my map directed me to drive in an unnecessary triangle from Burnet-Houston-Clay-back to Burnet. I recommend routing to Dollar Tree or Capitol Bingo instead, and park in that parking lot -- an easy 1 minute walk from Austin Camera. read more

Very disappointed. While I'm sure their services are at least adequate, the personal touch of caring, concerned, employees is totally missed. I tried to make a connection by 'gifting' a small jar of photo lab specific cleaner. My hope was to find a recipient for a considerable amount of lab supplies as well as photo accessories. After speaking briefly with the three people 'working' there, I felt like an intruder certainly not a contributor, not a photographer, not valued. They seemed almost Indifferent, unengaged as if this were fast food. Very disappointed. Has COVID left us with out employees that enjoy their job? Valuable services can't be supported without engaged employees - totally missed. I left a business card and asked to have owner or manager call me. That was a month ago... Went in a few times to get my disposable cameras developed and the photos were fine and were finished on time. However, the staff and atmosphere was really off putting. I first came during the pandemic (when they had the doors locked) and it was really confusing on how to pick up my printed photos. I knocked on the door and just stood there (mind you there were two staff members literally standing at the counter inside). I finally called and told them I was here to pick up my order and someone finally came to help. When they reopened, dropping off and picking up was just as awkward. Every time I go, nobody was friendly, and they were very pretentious. I still recommended a friend use their services and when she dropped off her film, she got treated like she was stupid even though she literally studied film. For the price, it's just not worth it. read more

Hello reader, I came into this camera shop enthusiastic as I always am when I do something related to photography. Immediately was not greeted when walking in, which is fine and not a big deal but it would have been nice. The workers seem to have no enthusiasm and what seems as almost no desire to have good customer interactions. Example, I picked up my scan and again was barely greeted, was given my scans without a word said to me, I said "thank you man!" and did not get a response. I then turned around and said "thank you" again with a nice thumbs and and finally got a response. I then was then consulting with an employee and noticed the film scans were much more expensive than other places I've been to. For the price that I am paying at this shop I would hope to have a great interaction and treated with more respect and dignity, at the minimum. There are other camera stores that around this area that offer more affordable scans for your film and that will also provide better customer service. This was not the first time that I have been to this shop, and was treated the same way the second time I came in. I believe that customers service is important not only out of kindness but also in order to keep loyal customers. This place will most likely not receive my business anymore due to something simple as the customer service. read more

I recently placed an order of disposable cameras with this company. The cameras were going to be part of a gift basket for each of my fiancé's and I's wedding attendees. But the order was cancelled. I called to fix the situation and even provided a government ID plus a picture of the card used to place the order along with a picture of my fiancé and I as proof there was no "fraud" like they claimed. They told me to reorder using a different payment method, so I did. The order got cancelled again and no help fixing the problem. I haven't heard from them since. Do not expect any customer service when dealing with Austin Camera & Shipping. read more

I really appreciate this place because the owner Matt is very kind and helped me understand certain aspects of film photography when i first started. as i began to grow as a photographer i feel like i eventually got to a point where my needs were beyond what Austin Camera could offer. they're hardly ever on time with development and scanning, they often don't call you where your order is ready, and they do a shoddy job at scanning. i've had several frames that needed to be rescanned due to operator error. they have also color corrected my edits in the past which is not something i asked for. this place has potential but i think there's a lot of room for improvement. i'd go here over Precision Camera, but not over Holland. read more

I take my films to get developed here and they are always really great about the turn around time (sometimes one business day). Also, I'll ask about the random equipment in store (which I'm hopfeul I can afford sometime soon), and the employees are knowledgeable and kind with telling me their thoughts and opinions. Great new camera store for Austin! I've been here a number of times and Matt the owner is so nice to work with, he is very knowledgeable and super friendly! I haven't had a chance to use their processing services yet but while I've been there purchasing used gear and other camera accessories I've heard a number of people picking up their prints and it sounds like they are all extremely happy. They have a great selection of used cameras and lenses and a bunch of vintage stuff too. I would highly recommend checking these guys out... you'll be glad you did. read more

Finally sent my Kodak disposable camera to get processed! The process with Austin camera and imaging was super simple. Since it was my first time here, I had called in earlier to understand the process and the lady over the phone was so patient and lovely, slowly explaining the process to me. All I had to do was to pay for it online, go to the store, fill up the form, enclose my camera in the envelope, and drop it off. Everything was sent straight to my email through a Dropbox. Everything was contactless which is great given the covid situation. The pictures came back in less than a week! The most basic price does not come with print but you can also request and pay for it if you'd like. I like this because there's less wastage than if you do it at places like CVS where they'll print it even if you don't like how the photos turned out (which makes the costs add up eventually too). read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PHOTOS TO BE SCANNED AND PRINTED HERE! I took 43 crisp black and white photos here to be scanned and printed. When I received my order back, some of the copies were mixed in with the originals and originals with the copies. I could clearly see the difference between the originals and copies bc the copies came back with a brownish tone, not the crisp black and white. I called to ask why such a difference in color and was transferred to Shelby (?) who had processed the order. She was rude and argumentative. She denied that the originals and copies were mixed, and denied the color was different. She finally relented that the colors wouldn't be the same. I asked if that meant black would be brown, and again she denied that happened. Finally, she said to resubmit the photos and place a new order. No way would I ever use this establishment again. Subpar work and rude employees don't deserve repeat business. read more

Extremely disappointed. I paid $100 to develop 15 rolls of medium format/35 mm film. It took them an entire week to develop the film, when it normally takes about an hour. After a long wait I went to pick it up and ALL the medium format film was completely blank. In every other store this warrants a full refund. However, when I requested one I was rudely denied. I'm pretty sure they exposed film, causing it to come out blank. This was most likely an accident but 100% deserving of a refund. This shop has rude staff and I do not recommend it to anyone. read more

I was looking for a new camera and they had very rude customer service, they were not welcoming at all and didn't really want to answer any of my questions or help me at all. If I asked a question they would just say to email them. What's the point of having a store front if you're just going to tell me to email you any inquiries I had? Five stars for not being Precision Camera. I'm almost kidding. Austin Camera & Imaging is at the opposite end of the spectrum from its sole "competition" in Austin, though because the two stores serve distinct photographers' markets (demographics, interests, economics), there's not really any competition between them. If you want to be tickled just-so by being customer-serviced and to wittingly pay too much for stuff, go to Precision. If you like to proclaim, "I'm a PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER!" go to Precision. If you want your Leica expertly serviced, Precision all the way. If you just want to buy brand-new equipment without ordering it from Adorama or B&H, Precision's the place for you. If you're more the type who's just gotten into, or gotten back into, "film" photography, and are looking for used "legacy" camera or lenses, or are looking for a good price on a digital camera, and who doesn't mind not being, or doesn't want to be, either brown-nosed or snubbed by uniformed salespeople, Austin Camera & Imaging will feel at-home. This ain't no step-n-fetchit "yes, sir/no, ma'am" kind of store. Neither do camera-company reps visit its staff to "educate" them on how to sell their product. I mean, just look at it: so locally-owned that tourists should arrive by the busload, get off the bus, take photos of it, and get back on the bus, then drive on to Sandy's and The Broken Spoke to do likewise. You're dealing with real people, here - not inscrutable name-tagged robotoids who turn from fake-obsequious to passive-aggressive in an eye-blink. No personnel through a revolving door to not remember you from one month to the next. And if you're some grown-ass man complaining about waiting for the store to open while you're holding a baby, consider a) a store opens when the store opens, and b) how many levels of emasculated you are. read more

I've gotten hundreds of rolls of 35mm & 120mm developed here, multiple enlargements for gallery exhibitions or just prints for friends, and sometimes buy film and other goodies here. All of the employees are knowledgeable and helpful. This has been my go to camera shop in Austin for two years, they're the best one by far. read more

Thankful to have found a place that puts care and time into film developing. I dropped off 14 rolls to get developed and they quoted me a week and i got them exactly when they were promised. Scans are sent with a Dropbox which is highly convenient if you can't always make it back soon. They have a wide selection of used and new cameras and gear. What a horrible experience. The girl at the front has no Cusomer Service. We walk in with a used vintage camera we had purchased and wanted to get film and a battery. She acted like we were inconveniencing her and when asked if we could purchase film she rudely said we are limiting that film to only two rolls. Just the whole over all experience was just so bad. I was visiting Austin this past week, and my friend and I came here to develop film we had shot out in the Marfa desert. Boy were we pleasantly surprised when we came to pick up our prints. First I have to mention that they did a rush order for us because we had a flight to catch the next day. They were able to get us our prints and scans within two hours of the store opening. I was nervous about the roll of film I dropped off knowing full well that I had not adjusted my analog camera settings properly when we were out shooting in the hot, bright desert. I'm a professional photographer, and after reading the Yelp reviews, I came here to get a high quality print in a custom size. Matt did a wonderful job with my print. I was so impressed by the amount of effort he put into getting the print just right - he printed it a total of three times until it met his personal satisfaction. The price was completely reasonable, and was much lower than I expected to pay. I'm extremely pleased with the customer service, as well as the print itself. I got my print within two hours, and got to look at a lot of cool stuff in their shop. I will be back to check out the wide variety of Polaroid film, and if I ever need to trade/buy a used lens, this will be my first stop! read more

All the team members are amazingly patient every time I come in and I have questions on imaging services. They did an amazing job on copying antique photos and their turn around time is very efficient. Also, a team member assisted me with creating a photo book. He sat next to me to ensure I got the best design layout. He was patient even though it was near end of business hours. I came back this week and needed images enlarged to 11x13 size. Aaron requested that I bring the CD from the original scanning order. He wanted to make sure that I did not spend any extra money. I appreciate his efforts to prevent me from paying extra for this print job. I will refer my family and friends to this local business. I finally got around to coming here the other day, and I'm impressed! First impression was good as I was greeted at the door by the owners adorable pooch. The store has a simple clean aesthetic that I truly appreciate. I was particularly drawn to their collection of vintage Polaroid cameras. So cool! I thought that Polaroid film was extinct, but nope! They carry it. It had been ages since I had developed any photos. I went into the store with no particular agenda, but once there I was inspired to print some photos from my iPhone. The owner helped me through the process, and now I have some good old-fashioned prints that will make great little gifts for Christmas! Small update, was in the area, walking by, decided to stop in. Shop is a mess now. Looks like squatters live in it. Have no idea how the owner/s or management could let things get so cluttered and disorganized. Yeah my first experience was not positive, but at least my first impression was. This had been, four years ago, a neat and inviting space. Now there's junk strewn all over the shop, and it's not a large space so there's not a lot of room to move around in, and it always feels like you're going to accidentally bump into something. Rude. So expensive. If you need film don't buy it from here, their up charge is ridiculous. Don't offer any student discounts or discounts on blank negatives. You're better off sending in your film to be developed over the mail, so expensive to get it developed here. read more
