We were 99% certain we knew what the problem was with my lens when we brought it to Sorin, the sole proprietor at Eurotech. I'd done ample research and my lens was behaving exactly as others' have. There were even online videos with the same reproducible symptoms, and a specific part needed to be replaced. So I figured I could get my repair done at Eurotech, as Sorin has worked on many lenses previously. He told me there'd be no charge if he didn't repair the lens. The shop is very old-school in how it's run; there are claim checks, no website to check on your gear, and you must call him during business hours to determine the status of your repair. His phone mailbox is perpetually full. Eurotech is located in a small office within a building with other small businesses. The office is cluttered with all manner of camera parts and intact cameras, and there are few clean flat surfaces in the place. I was a bit edgy about leaving my camera and lens there, but the reviews and articles on Sorin gave me confidence. He asked me to call several business days after I left my equipment. When I called, he told me the lens was very clean inside. Evidently he was thinking that dirt infiltration might have been the problem with my lens vs it needing a part replaced. He continued to go down that path, apparently unwilling or unable to get the part. My lens was reassembled and I picked it up in the same condition as I'd left it. While Sorin was pleasant and making jokes when we originally dropped my lens and camera off, he was not very friendly when we picked it up. I'm leaving the review at 3 stars because I got my camera and lens back and there was no charge (although I missed my camera and lens for the 10 days or so they were in the shop). I do think it's nice that Sorin didn't charge for his time, of course. read more

My Pentax 6x7, which is a 30 year old film camera, was having an issue with double and overlapping exposures. I took it to Soren who had an idea of what could be wrong with it, and he was able to quickly break the camera down and pinpoint the issue to the clutch. However, unfortunately in my case, the issue ended up being a bit more complicated, and Soren was not able to fix it, but he refused to take payment for it. Since expertise in these sorts of old film cameras is getting more rare, I will have to ship it off to someone who specializes only in this brand of camera, but at least now I can tell the next person exactly what needs to be done. I was impressed by how honest Soren is when it comes to camera repair, and he will only charge for a problem that's been solved. I accidentally fell in a mud puddle with my Canon 6D and it was an absolute mess. Since I was in Colorado I was not able to bring the camera in for 2 weeks. Just imagine the mud is now dry and caked on. When I brought the camera to Sorin he first thought it wasn't fixable but said I will open it up and see if the electronics were good. He said if he couldn't fix it, no charge. After a few days a Sorin called and said it was fixable. He cleaned all the parts, electronics were good. It took a little more than a week, but I was so impressed and I don't have to get a new camera. It works perfectly. So clean. You would never know it was in mud. I have used Eurotech a couple of times and will continue. If I could pay a before and after pic, I would. read more

I decide to take my Nikon 28mm/70mm lens for repair/adjustment. (The lens actually worked but was not going into autofocus as it should.) From the moment I got there I should have known this was not going to end well. Sorin's shop is messy, run down and gave you the feeling like you weren't sure about leaving expensive equipment with him. And while he claims to have 30 years of experience, he certainly is not running his business at least to par. I dropped my lens off on a Thursday, and was told I could call on a Monday for a status. Monday and Tuesday passed so on Wednesday I went to his shop. I had to get after him for not calling me to give me a status. He said he 'fixed' some gears and gave it a cleaning BUT he didn't check his work because he didn't have a Nikon camera to test it on. Ridiculous!! You have a repair shop for cameras and lenses, but not the the camera to test your work? I had to question how he know his repairs were effective if he had no way of testing? I should not be obligated to bring in my camera to test his work. I returned the next day with my Nikon D4S and the auto-focus was not completely fixed... it was still jumpy. Then he had the nerve to ask me to leave my pro camera with him so he could further fix and test the lens. Are you kidding me? Give me my lens back, I owe you nothing for the fix, and I will be sure to warn others about your horrible business and technical skills. read more

I love this place. Sorin is the best. He 's super nice, has wonderful pricing, and has a great little shop. I highly recommend him. FYI he only takes cash or check. The pricing is amazing though. My camera is an old slr (a pentax ME super) from the 70s, but the lady who was in line in front of me had a newer camera and he was giving her advice on the motherboard etc so I'm assuming he can fix all cameras. After reading the reviews I expected that this shop would do good repairs at a great price. The price was neither great nor bad. It was about average. The repair was effective (I had only a simple problem that just required cleaning, and had I owned the proper size ring spanner necessary I would have done the job myself). In terms of price and doing what he says he will do, everything is ok. But - if you have a day job like most people it can be next to impossible to drop off your camera or pick it up. This place is open from only 10am to 4pm. And actually, most of the time that's not even true. The shop is often closed during the hours it is supposed to be open. The other people in the building seem to be used to people stopping by expecting to drop off or pick up equipment only to find he's closed up shop early or gone missing. Would be nice if he would leave a sign saying he had to close early or went off to lunch. My camera was repaired the same week I dropped it off, but it took another full week of me stopping by every day before I finally caught him and was able to pick it up! A big waste of my time and gas. I had hoped that since this shop is close to where I live it'd be time saving for me to have repairs done here instead of driving way north or having to mail items out, but in the end it took so long to get my stuff back I may as well have mailed it somewhere else. Five stars on the repair then, four on price, and one star on convenience. read more

Although it took me nearly a year to get the camera I brought in repaired, I am still giving this guy a big "good" rating. He specializes in old cameras, film cameras, and is just one man in a shop with short hours (m-f 10a-4pm)... I brought in a Kodak Tourist with a sticking shutter, and the camera itself has one of the most notoriously unreliable, and also incredibly difficult to fix Synchro Rapid 800 shutter. After a few months of his trying to find replacement parts, he did attempt to make repairs, but finally let me know that he was unable to fix what I had. In the meantime, I had acquired another Tourist with the same shutter, and it was having some different issues, so, when I went to pick up the basket case, he suggested leaving the "newer" camera as well as the old... within a week, I got a phone call that he was able to use the parts from the basket case to make the needed repairs, and provided me with a fully functioning, thoroughly cleaned camera with a 3 month warranty for his work, at less than his original repair quote, which is not bad for a 60 year old camera! read more

I was passing through town on my way to a conference and realized that my new camera was lacking the rings for attaching a camera strap. I had the strap, I just couldn't attach it and since I expected to shoot alot on this trip, I knew that just holding the camera without a strap was going to be a problem. I looked up the nearest camera store to the airport and headed to Eurotech. It is not easy to find - on the second floor of a funky building above a convenience store, but oh so well worth it. This is a REAL camera repair shop where the person behind the counter is a true craftsman who does all the work. Mr. Marcu immediately knew what was needed and in two seconds, put jump rings on my camera - then refused payment saying "Just bring me your camera next time it needs to be fixed." Well, next time my camera will need repairs will probably be in my home state of Calilfornia, but maybe this review will encourage others to take their cameras to Eurotech Camera Service.
