With a newborn and a husband back at work, Debra worked with our schedule to get us into her amazing studio. I think "amazing studio" is an understatement. She has transformed her home into a place where magic happens. As an art major myself, the numerous backdrops, floors, lighting options, and props galore made me want to spend the day there just looking at everything! Speaking of, we actually DID spend the day there. Our little girl might not have been the most cooperative but Debra has been called the "baby whisperer" for good reason! It took my husband and I by surprise to see Debra work her baby magic since we have been dealing with an ongoing fussy period for weeks now. And, while it took a good handful of hours to get the perfect pics, it was worth every second. I couldn't help feeling giddy as we watched Debra gently position her in adorable baskets under huge studio lights, wrapped into the most angelic moments. Debra calmed all anxieties that I had going into a newborn photo shoot, and honestly, fears that most new parents would have. I wish I had found Debra earlier and made my decision to get these done when our little girl was just days old but am so glad that she worked with us even though Esther was starting not to be itty bitty anymore! Annie Ray can make anybody look cool…read more Her "photobooth" photography style is edgy and fun, in no small part because of her incredibly likeable personality and the way she eggs on her subjects like some kind of totally cliche French photographer ("Give me more! Give me more!"). Yet her subjects catch her enthusiasm and channel their inner goofball/badass/child/whatever, striking ridiculous poses, making faces they would never otherwise make in public, even taping gross, who-knows-where-this-has-been fake moustaches under their noses to help them get into character. Yet somehow, magically, everyone looks hip and cool and funky and lively in the end product. Or maybe everyone looks totally dorky and ridiculous, but it doesn't matter, because all your friends look that way in their shots, too. Annie Ray is some kind of photographic genius. Well, partially it's to have a physical memory of the event and the friends we love. But mostly it's cause an Annie Ray photo shoot is like a ride at Six Flags. It's a "weeeeeee" kinda fun where you can be as adventurous and loud and silly as you dare. When the ride is over, most folks get right back in line again. And just like a rollercoaster ride, you can end up with a crazy pic of your adventure. But Annie Ray specifically as a photographer is a joy. She's ebullient, effervescent, energetic, and encouraging which is great when you are working with stoic camera shy boys like my hubby and bff. And she makes ME look good even tho I normally take horrible pictures. I can never get my face to act right (in fact, no telling how many of the 20 or so that she takes she pitches to only post a few on her site....). And she remembers people. Having worked many a Yelp party and working with countless faces, I am amazed that she remembers my name and when she met hubby last event, she was so excited and demanded we take more pictures of just us, encouraging him "Randy love Keri! Loooove her!"...which of course hubby took to mean "Stick your tongue in her ear!!". I always look forward to an Annie Ray photobooth. She is an Annie Ray of Sunshine!

I've been photographed by Steve in improv shows, photobooths, and in a one-on-one session, and I was more than happy with the results every time. When he is taking photos at an improv show or a live event, he really captures the story and the characters. You can go back months later, and you can relive what you've seen. When he's taking photos at photobooths, he catches the spirit of the moment and the fun of the event. You always feel happy looking back at the photobooth photos, especially when ridiculous costumes are involved. And he is fantastic in a one-on-one setting. He makes you feel comfortable and safe. I loved the fact that the photos were artsy/colorful and not just the typical portraits. But what really sealed the deal was when we talked to Josh over Skype. He stated he doesn't charge by the hour for weddings because then he would be too focused on time, and also because it's a (hopefully) once in a lifetime experience that shouldn't be limited by time. He definitely followed through - we had an almost 10hr engagement session followed by another the next day!! How many photographers can you say would be ok with that? He really uses his surroundings to strengthen the photo as well. Andrew is his partner that did our 2nd day of engagement session and he was just as passionate, and just as friendly.
