After 2yrs of driving by we decided to stop and try out Champy's. The chicken is the best in the Boro by far. Loved the sauce and the chicken. It's really good on the budget as well. This was our first time going to a Champy's and we had an awesome experience! First, our waitress, Bailey was the absolute sweetest. She was happy to offer up her favorite options to us, and then she even brought me extra sauces to try that they make in house. She recommended the bacon Gouda Mac and cheese so we got that and we tried the cheddar Mac and cheese too. They were both great! Very even and wholesome. I ordered the four finger chicken strips and my boyfriend ordered the catfish. They both came with a huge amount of very crispy, delish fries. The fried chicken and pickle spears are still the bomb! This time, I tried the crawfish, which they typically don't have. It wasn't the worst crawfish I've had, but it also wasn't the best. It was slightly over cooked but I can't blame them because they typically don't have crawfish on the menu and it's so seasonal it's hard to get it right unless you're catching it fresh in Louisiana or Texas. I did enjoy this place and we will probably continue to go back because the foods good and the price isn't terrible. The only issue we had twice now was with us just moving to the state, we had to get new drivers licenses which the STATE provides a paper copy until the actual ID comes in. We have no problem any where else using this because it is what the DMV provided to us which is a GOVERNMENT OFFICE. Maybe teach your employees the difference between a fake and an actual DMV issued temporary license. read more

This is the 5th different Champys franchise I have been to. Now, they only have 7 Champys. So, I have been to 71 percent of them. The first one I went to was around 2010 or 2011 in Chattanooga. That was the one on MLK down town Chattanooga, TN. Personal History: How I found Champys. It was on a Thursday and I was down town Champys in Chattanooga at a restaurant/bar called Tacomac on Market Street. Coincidentally, the owner of Champys (Seth Champion) was there. He invited me to come down and visit his restaurant. He talked about how good his chicken and catfish was. The bartender agreed and gave a thumbs up and said I should try it one day. Seth said he had beer there too including beer in 40 ounce bottles. Happy Hour is from 3pm to 6pm Monday through Friday. During this time, it's 2 for 1 draft beer. They also have drink specials on Saturdays and Sundays such as "Bloody Mary's" and etc which I believe last all day. Bloody Mary's are only $3.50 on the weekends at the present time. Lots of TV: I see 4 big TVs behind the bar and several more in the dining area. Most TVs look like like they are 50 inch TVs behind the bar and others look like 32 inch TVs in the rest of the restaurant. So, this is a great place to come and watch sports. 12 beers on draft. As of 8-10-18 the beers on draft that they have are; Champys Brew, Blue Moon, Rock Hard Cider, Bud Light, Steel Barrel, Yuengling, Yazoo, Mayday, Sam Adams Seasonal, Dos Equis, Michelob Ultra and Miller Lite. Now what they have in stock tomorrow might change. So, what they have op tap next time, well, we will just have to wait and see. Best Menu items: I crave 3 main dishes served by Champys. They are Hot Tamales, Fried Chicken, and Fried Catfish plates. Their Hot Tamales served as 6 Hot Tamales with coleslaw and crackers. Their catfish plates are served with 3 catfish filets, hush puppies, onion, white bread, French fries and coleslaw. Their fried chicken, well, I usually get 2 piece white meat ( leg and breast), along with green beans and mashed potatoes and gravy. Menu Items: Today I got their catfish plate. It was delicious here just like what I usually got in Chattanooga. Customer Service: My waitress really took great care of me. She kept my drink filled with sweet tea the whole time I was here. She checked on me several times. You bet I will definitely return to this location soon. In summary, I have probably visited a Champys restaurant over 200 times according to Yelp check ins. Located in the old Hooter's on N. Broad St, it felt laid back and casual. The Gumbo was tasty and had a decent spice bite. The Catfish was fresh and included two sides. We got cole slaw and swapped the fries for mashed potatoes (real) and brown gravy. A few hushpuppies were also included. The 2-piece Dark Chicken plate also came with two sides but first, that chicken! It was piping hot because they don't cook the food until it is ordered so it comes out as fresh as can be. Everything comes on styrofoam. Plates and cups, which makes it extremely easy to clean up! Service was friendly and laid back. There are plenty of televisions showing sports. Nice bluesy music playing in the background. Prices are a bit high for this type of food but I guess you are paying for the atmosphere! read more

This is an updated review. I've been coming here since the day before they opened. I was turned away because it was a soft opening by invitation. I was there the next day at door opening. As a ride-share driver, I have always boasted this was the best place for fried chicken in the city. I go there often, and base my statements on my taste-buds. They have other great dishes. Tamales and mud bugs are wonderful. My son loves the chicken livers. I've known many of the servers on sight and they know me. This is not a breastaurant, but the ladies are easy on the eyes, and if they are not, they are so nice, you don't care. Hannah, Laeh and Bailey are great servers if you get them at your table or at the bar. I had a discussion with a cook on his break. He worked at the MGM Grand in Vegas. He is very happy here as a prep cook. He said this is the CLEANEST place he has ever worked, but would not reveal the marinade secret. I'll have to contact a Food Network show to dive in and obtain it. Met a nice lady passing through and she agreed this place is great. If Dave is at the bar, buy him a drink. If I'm there buy me one. I ordered the Catfish Plate and it came with fries, slaw, fish and hush puppies. This was my first time tasting their food and won't be the last. The fish was delicious, slaw was great, but unlike any I've ever had. I had it delivered so I can't comment on the service. Maybe I'll go in to dine on my next trip to Murfreesboro. read more

So this place has pretty good curb appeal; very fun decor and pretty lighting. The first time I visited, it was not too busy and surprisingly quiet. It was such a relief from the myriad of restaurants that seem to have horrible acoustics these days. The beer was cold, the side of hush puppies were hot -- overall a good experience for a light snack visit. My second visit wasn't quite as pleasant. The service was terrible at times...but in their defense, they had just been inundated with a sports team(s) I am not sure they were expecting. All the staff were moving around very quickly, so it certainly wasn't because they were just being lazy. Apparently 40s are the thing here -- like, really cheap. But since drinking that much in one sitting has been left in the days of my youth, I opted for a draft instead. Luckily, the draft selection seems to be fairly good too. I ordered a two piece chicken meal with mashed potatoes with gravy and slaw as my sides. The chicken was fine, nothing exciting. No seasoning. The mash was OK, but the slaw was too mayonnaisey for my taste. I had to pay extra for each hush puppy I ordered, and if I had opted for sauce for the chicken, I would've had to pay extra for that too. I wasn't overly enamored with the atmosphere, to me the place looks like it belongs in Key West. Frankly I wanted to leave almost as soon as we arrived. However it was recommended. It is, at its heart, a fried chicken place. The guy with me had that and said it was great. Not having had fried chicken in almost 40 years I opted to take his word for it. I got the gumbo. Man oh man was that good and filling. Ridiculous. Loved it. The tap was a little limited but they had Yuengling which I can't get at home so that worked. The service seemed really disorganized someone delivered a basket of hush puppies to our table that we didn't order and the person dashed off before we could say they weren't ours. Waited to be seated (hostess looked at us and walked away) eventually was seated (another woman approached the podium) . Waited for a server to order beverages..... never showed up... never showed to take an order did not even appear for an introduction. But... did appear to tell another server that she was responsible for the entire area we were seated at (the far left between the out door eating area and the open eating area). As a table another party entered, an adult with 3 minors, they were seated nearly instantly and met their server and were even given straws. WOW - I need this restaurant in Chicago...STAT! We were visiting the Nashville area this past weekend and was looking for a highly rated restaurant and ended up here at Champy's. Although we should have dined in, we ended up ordering to go. What a cute restaurant filled with throwback items all over the walls and ceiling. As soon as we entered, we were greeted with a smiling/fun filled hostess (this HAS to be a southern thing)! Told her we wanted carryout and proceeded to the bar. Was told it would be a wait, but we were ok with it. Food arrived after 15-20min and BOY the wait was worth it. The chicken here is NOT greasy and I love how it came in the bag....like dumped in the bag....I actually liked that! C-R-I-S-P-Y!! OMG...why was this chicken so good???? It puts Popeyes to shame.
