One of my favorite meals in Paris, this hidden gem (down a ways away on Rue René Boulanger off of Rue Saint Martin in le Marais) is a must-visit (if only for the semi-public bathrooms-I saw one man walk in, use it, and then leave without ordering anything.) The reason for 1 Star off? Slightly inattentive and slow service. Servers spoke English and gave me an English menu right off the bat, but I had to flag them down a few times and walked up to the counter at the end to pay. The menu changes every day or even meal I believe. They have a nice deal--you can order a la carte or get a starter, entree, and dessert for around 34 euros (some specific dishes are extra.) Oeuf cuit basse (Egg appetizer): The squash puree was creamy and good. The bacon bits worked well as a nice contrast, adding a nice crunch. Pork chop entree: The meat had good consistency. Juicy. Side of potatoes burst with flavor upon each chew. Black Forest dessert: There were large pieces of tangy cranberry. Creamy with chocolate pieces and tiny pieces of lettuce sprinkled on top so it looked like a Black Forest. I'd be back. read more

I was really looking forward to visiting this restaurant based on reviews, but was a little disappointed by it. To be fair, we weren't as hungry, so skipped an appetizer (none jumped out at us) and stuck with entree and dessert. The entrees were okay. I enjoyed mine, but it didn't wow me. The other entree we ordered was also a white fish, and it was very blah and lacked seasoning. The desserts, however, were creative and tasty. We had the meditation basil cake (like an olive oil cake with basil flavor - if you enjoy non-sweet desserts, this one was great!) and the avocado cremeux with fruit (an interesting mix). Friendly & attentive waitstaff who spoke English and a good amount of elbow room between tables. All in all, a good restaurant, but probably not one I would revisit. read more

This place was amazing. Best meal we had in Paris. If you are from out of town and want excellent French wine and food, this is the place to go. We went to a couple other places on Yelp and were kind of disappointed because they were too American and not authentic. My wife had a line caught fish dish and I had a steak and potatoes dish. Both were great, but the fish ranks in one of the top meals I have ever had. The ceviche was also excellent, it had so much flavor and was so fresh. We also asked for a recommendation on the wine and were given two excellent wines at about 7 Euro a glass which was pretty inexpensive compared to what we had been paying at other restaurants. We wish we had time to go again. This is true French dining and the real experience. If you are an American and are looking for that type of place, this place is perfect. The staff spoke English and also had the menu in English which made it much easier. We can't wait to go back next time! read more

This is my new restaurant crush of the rentrée! I first heard about it from David Lebovitz who wrote about it with unusual superlatives in his monthly newsletter. Then a scan of fab Yelp reviews supported his claim and I reserved a table for that very night. This place checks all of the boxes of what a modern French bistro should be: a spacious, airy restaurant with very friendly staff, and a truly seasonal, evolving menu of inventive but unfussy dishes at affordable prices. The evening menu is 37E for entree, plat and dessert, but you could order à la carte, which is what I did since I was heading out dancing afterwards and wanted to be a bit light on my feet. My entrée of seared tuna over greens with a tangy plum sauce and pickled onions was heavenly. I'm still dreaming of that sauce and wishing I could slather it over just about anything. My main dish was a more daring choice, thick, juicy slices of grilled marinated pork served over sauteed kale with a light licorice sauce that had a great sweet and sour balance. It was a little greasy, but the waitress warned me so, but not at all heavy in the end. On the subject of service, it was all perfect. Our waitress was adorable, super accommodating and had a respectful but pal-around way of chatting with the table. The other staff seemed to have the same attitude with their tables. read more

One of my top meals in Paris - a 4.5. This place is sort of tucked in a side street full of random eateries. Dinner can be a la carte or a starter/main/dessert for 37 euros. Our server spoke enough English to help and there was an English menu describing the dishes. The owner speaks English as well and is really friendly and stopped by to with us chat a few times. Lots of locals with a couple of tables with non-Parisians. Casual environment where you feel relaxed to dine. Food is of good portion and excellent flavours. This is modern French food with a focus on what's in season. There was definitely a layer of interesting yet subtle and complex flavours in every dish. Starters: poached oyster with cucumbers was a cold dish - delightful and referring. I love the white asparagus here (it's currently in season in May). Asparagus wasn sweet and paired well with the salty chorizo. Mains: veal was seasoned and cooked perfectly and the sides were perfection. The duck breast was also cooked perfectly and delicious. Third course, we went with the cheese platter and it was heaven. Couldn't remember all of the names but I particularly loved this goats milk cheese that just oozed so seductively. Overall I would recommend this place especially if you're in the 10rh arrondissement. But also worth visiting even if you aren't in the area. read more

My husband and I went to Paris for a week. I wanted to dine at a place locals go and have a great evening meal. Our concierge recommended Chameleon. The fresh, local ingredients, the staff, the chefs & the owner of Chameleon was all that I wanted out of the "local food experience ". The food was clean and honest, the wine was wonderful. If this restaurant was located in my home city, I would be a regular. I will never forget the food and experience that I had at Chameleon. This is a farm to table restaurant in Paris-- one of the few (if not the first) in the city, according to their menu. If you told me that I could eat every meal here, I would seriously consider moving in with the Gypsies down the street. I do hold one thing against this place though. The problem is that whenever somebody says, "Paris," I feel an overwhelming urge to say, "There is this great restaurant there-- farm to table-- blah, blah, blah" but I can't say that because then I would be one of those people who walks around saying things like that. So instead, I keep it bottled-up inside. One of these days, I'm just going to crack, and knowing how these things go, it will happen at the most inopportune time, like at a funeral, or in Ohio. read more

This restaurant is a real gem and I highly recommend visiting. We went at the recommendation of our B&B owners as it is right around the corner, and I am so glad we did. I called ahead of time and was able to make a reservation even at 10pm (we had late plans that day). Our plans ended at bit early and we showed up around 9:22 and were seated at the table we chose outside. The 2 servers (one owner? one waitress) were both very friendly and welcoming. They had an English menu that they offered right away when they heard us speaking (much appreciated). The food was excellent! I had a porkchop and potatoes in a pan sauce to die for. It was not fancy, but I would have eaten it 3 more times if I could have. And for dessert, an apple tart with raspberry sauce and cream on top that honestly had me thinking about it for 3 days after. The appetizer is not sticking in my mind as well, I think it was an avocado tartare with an orange mouse. It was fine, but not nearly as memorable as the other 2 courses. Overall, I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant, and I will definitely be back the next time I am in Paris (which I think I can only really say about 2 or 3 places out of 30). read more

I feel confident saying this is the best meal I've ever had. We were looking for a bit of a special restaurant for the last night of our Paris honeymoon, and I couldn't have asked for a better choice. We dined on a relatively quiet Wednesday night, so we were fine with no reservations, but I can't say it would be the same on a weekend. The food was just the best food I've ever had. Our starters, in particular, were little works of art. I had a slow cooked egg that was the single best thing I've ever eaten, and my husband's salmon was a close second. Of course, their constantly changing menu means those dishes may not be offered again, but the care that went into making them, as well as our mains (steak for me, duck for him) and desserts (I don't even know how to describe these! but mine was mango and his was chocolate) make me confident that literally anything they cook would be delicious perfection. Of all the incredible food we ate in Paris, this was the best-- it's not particularly expensive (a very reasonable set menu, which is a standard french restaurant practice that I wish we had in America!), but it was just impeccable. A wonderful, lovely end to our big Paris trip. read more

A small restaurant in the Republique with young owners and a young chef who cares deeply about his food. It was close to our hotel, and we took a chance after a long day walking around Paris, both my wife an I agreed that it was a very good choice. A relaxed atmosphere, and great service. The dinner was delicious starting off with a nice tender squid with cauliflower, then a passion fruit hack fish with many fresh vegetables, and finished off with a fried banana with banana ice cream and cake. If I could get be this place 6 stars, I would. We had an exhausting day of traveling and it was our last night in Paris. We wanted an amazing meal and we wanted to feel welcome. This place delivered on all levels. And for a reasonable price, which was awesome. But what was really amazing was that we had an unruly two year old and they were amazing. No baby seat, which can be a bad sign but they were accommodating and understanding, which is always appreciated. By the way, they change the menu nightly based on what is available at the market. 35 euros for a delicious meal. I had a starter of bonito ceviche with kiwi which was outstanding. I had fish I had never even heard of before which was perfectly seasoned and cooked. This was one of the best meals I've had in my entire life. We went here during our honeymoon. Our feet were very sore after walking around all day and this was close to our hotel. I don't know how else we would have run across it, because it's sort of on a little backstreet. The girl who served us was sweet and eager to please. She spoke some English and I speak some French. Between the two of us, we were able to clarify the details of the menu, (which changes every day - hence the name 'Chameleon'). I had the Entrecote (ribeye) with a pan sauce and house frites. This wasn't just a steak-frites. This was perfection on a plate. My wife had the pigeon, which came with a thin slice of pan-seared foie gras. It was beautiful. The wine recommendations made by the staff were spot-on. After our meal, the owner came out and spoke to us. He was friendly and entertaining. Everything about this meal, the ambiance, the warm-natured staff and, of course, the perfectly prepared food, was deserving of five stars. My wife and I agreed - for our future travels in Europe, even if we are in Paris for just one night, this is where we will dine. read more

This is a small neighborhood farm to table restaurant with a limited menu and wine list that changes every month. The menu may be small but everything on it that we tasted was beyond great. The price was 42€ price fix for a starter, entrée, and dessert excluding wine. We had the mushrooms and the razor clams starters, the pollack and the ribeye steak entrées and the strawberry tartlets and the chocolate ganache desserts and where very much impressed with how good it all was. Was referred by a local parisien and upon further research discovered that it was highly praised by David Lebovitz, plus it was literally two blocks from where we were staying so had to try it. Service was super friendly and they speak English which was a bonus as it's a coin flip at most establishments. We went with their set menu option where u choose app, main & desert. Without getting overly descriptive, App consisted of two very large and fresh oysters lightly seasoned and poached in some sort of umami broth, simple yet very good. main was lamb, perfectly medium, they don't ask how you want it but I would've gone medium anyways, again flavours of the key ingredients really shine. Desert was a lime flavoured mousse which was beautifully presented with crumbled meringue, light and and just the right amount of tart to finish the meal. overall I would say they are really good at making the key ingredients shine, but they were not simple dishes. Only negatives were really slow service but that seems to be a French thing, and no AC! Would definitely go again if ever in the area. read more
