Delicious food. My chicken mole was very good, there was a generous amount of chicken, too, I couldn't finish it, even though I skipped tortillas. My son loved and finished his whole carne asada burrito (even with leaf lettuce!!) my husband's pork tamales were good also. Can't wait to try their brunch! read more

Excellent Mexican restaurant! Location was much nicer than others indicate so perhaps they have moved. Sat inside near the patio and windows made it feel like a screened in porch. Vegetarian options were excellent and the chilorio (meat replacer) was a nice spicy chorizo-like addition to veggie tacos and tostadas. Finish off with a sopapilla and you'll leave very happy! Kids burrito was also excellent! read more

This place is legit! So nice to have a great option for food in Torrey. As others have mentioned, don't be thrown off by the ambience. Although, it's truly difficult to go anywhere in Torrey that serves bad views. We had the chile relleno which had a perfect batter and was good-sized and delicious. We also had two tacos: the Gobernador (shrimp) and the octopus. Both were so tasty but the shrimp taco was the best my husband and I have tasted. Great food! Great service! read more

Delicious! Can't ask for more in a small town area :) Fresh food and wonderful service. They try hard and do a great job. read more

Fantastic spot. Don't be fooled by the outside aesthetic, delicious food and friendly employees. Will be back!

Delicious! We ate there the first night of our trip to Capital Reef. We loved it so much that we had to go back the next day for lunch. My kids claimed it was the best quesadilla they had ever had. I loved the shrimp and fish tacos. Dessert was delicious as well. Good service. We will be back! read more

Awesome place for Mexican food in Torrey. Service is excellent. Cute interior Loved the green sauce!!!

From the outside, this restaurant doesn't give a clue to the delicious food inside. Lucky for us, we were hungry and Chak Balam was open. We shared enchiladas, an octopus taco (Wow!) and flan for desert. On our return trip (to Salt Lake City), we tried another restaurant that wasn't even able to deliver a hot chai latte. Next time we're in Torrey, we'll be eating at Chak Balam--and we'll tell our friends not to miss it! Perry and Linda Cunningham Salt Lake City read more

Awesome food! Quick service! Vincent took real good care of us. I would definitely recommend. The fish tacos were excellent.

This place was just down the road from our hotel and looks unassuming on the outside. Inside, it was a pleasant space with great food and attentive staff. Food was served quickly. My enmoladas were the perfect blend of sweet and heat and my daughter thought the fish tacos were among the best she's had (and she's had a lot, living in SoCal!). read more

Exceeded my expectations! Small, un-assuming joint with fast, friendly service. My burrito was really good and very fresh. It was grilled on the outside and cut in half, served with a few different salsa and hot sauce options for smothering. Also got the mime on the side which was very tasty. read more

The exterior may look less than unassuming, but if you're looking for good Mexican in the Capitol Reef area don't pass this place by. The interior was very small (it looked like some work was being done to add space) but was clean. Although there was only one waiter service was speedy. The food itself was delicious, high quality Mexican. Excellent queso and Tamales. read more

We very much enjoyed this restaurant. I had the veggie tamales (with green and red sauces) that were delicious. Highly recommend to any vegetarian. My husband enjoyed his chicken enchilada. The service was friendly, the prices seemed fair. read more

Great friendly service, and the food was incredible!! We were just passing by on long drive - wish we lived closer, I would go every week haha. Highly recommend their fish and shrimp tacos. read more

Amazing food! It's definitely an eye-sore from the outside but you won't be unhappy with anything you order, the food is fantastic and the service is great. A tad expensive but worth it!! read more

Outstanding food, service and everything! Found this gem in Torrey and stopped by. Vincent our waiter was a delight - so helpful, fast and best smile ever! Thank you! read more

They messed up my order but they were nice enough to fix it in a timely manner. However, I've definitely had better cheese enchiladas.

Overall just not a good experience. I think this restaurant has a management/leadership problem. I don't blame the wait staff. It was obvious they haven't been given good coaching and training. Ambience is stressful, crowded, unhappy customers because of inadequate service. I could overhear nearby tables complaining. Waitresses was a downer. Led with the single mom/kid at home story which is the story of many people I know, but they make the best of it and don't use it as leverage with their job. Food was just OK. My salad was very fresh. read more

Absolutely delicious food! This restaurant was a great find on our visit to Capitol Reef National Park. The food and service were phenomenal. I got the enchiladas, my boys a burrito and flautas. Highly recommended! read more

The food here is delicious, and presentation is very nice. Don't be put off by the outside of the building. It's part of the ambiance. Salsa is homemade. Margaritas were delicious! read more

Stopped here on my way from Moab to capitol reef. There are not many options and even if there were a million I would probably stop here every time! This place is SOOOOO good. Everything is so fresh and the service was excellent. If you are headed this way I would definitely recommend you stop looking for places to eat because you found the one! read more

This is by far the best Authentic Mexican food I have ever had. We spend two nights in Capital Reef and ate here both nights. We didn't even discuss another place the second night. My only wish is that it wasn't 3 hours away. But then again, I would go broke!! read more

If you're driving through Torrey Utah - this is a delicious and tasty find. Small. Cozy. Unpretentious with incredible Mexican food. The shrimp fajitas were generous- seasoned to perfection that puts expensive gourmet Mexican places to shame. Pricing is fair and choices in the menu are excellent. Service is excellent as this is a family business that really cares about each guest. Swing by and enjoy some great food. You won't find better anywhere. It's worth a detour if you're even close. Just great Mexican food with care and talent at work every step of the way. read more

Not your typical Mexican cuisine but excellent. The flavors were superb and the service just as good.

It my... so, so good. Great staff. Best day of my life. Fried shrimp tacos are amazing

We happened upon this little gem 30 minutes before closing last week when arriving in Torrey the night before doing Capitol Reef National Park. The building was small, but the service was excellent and the food was amazing. The restaurant is newly opened (The owner came out and talked with us for a while and shared his journey with us). It had only been open three weeks when we were there. You never would've known it was that new based on our experience. The salsa was fresh and very tasty, the queso was amazing and creamy, chips were hot, and all three of us loved our food. I had the chimichanga, a friend had tortilla soup, and another friend had the flautas. Portions were generous and the owner was open to suggestions. We got there right before they closed and thought we might have to wait quite a while for our food, but it was fast and hot and our server was ready with lots of suggestions. We were never rushed and were treated as valuable and appreciated customers. Definitely give this family-run restaurant a try when in Torrey. You will not be disappointed. Fun Fact: Chak Balam means Red Jaguar in Mayan. read more

Our jeep guide recommended Chak Balam. Most other places were closed anyway. The place is nothing to look at. It looks like a construction shed, actually, but don't let that fool you. The service was friendly and fast and the food was outstanding. Everything was obviously homemade, including the red sauce and mole. The mole was PERFECT. Nothing was greasy. Ingredients and meals were fresh and authentic. The beverage options were fun, including Mexican sodas, horchata, and Mexican hot chocolate, which was excellent on a cold day. I'd definitely recommend this place. read more

This little place was recommended by a local- my mom thought it was the best Mexican food she's ever had. The outside is a little shabby, but it was spectacular food. The presentation was beautiful, huge menu, very fresh ingredients. All the servers were delightful, and the service was so quick. Fresh baked chips and homemade salsa for a free appetizer! We are outside and the views of the park are amazing. Whole dinner came to only $32 including tip for 3 items!!! read more

Chak Balam - Mexican salad, octopus taco - Mexican Near Me - Torrey, Utah

Unfortunately, our group had a poor experience. We had to flag down servers to get just about anything. Our food was nearly inedible. We let the server know our meat tasted as if something might be wrong with it, but they responded with we were probably expecting Taco Bell style food. We had 4 people in our group and only one person ate their food. All around it wasn't a good experience. read more

We're finishing up our dinner right now. We both say " Wow". We love Mexican food - I grew up in TX, moved to Chicago and then NYC. I know good Mexican food. This was exceptional. My pork tamales with green sauce were better than any I ever had. My friend's cheese enchiladas were scrumptious. Large servings - enough for tomorrow's lunch. Lovely presentation - with fresh greens. And Margaritas - so great. read more

This was a delightful gem we stumbled upon while passing through Torrey, UT. We asked a local where to get the best Mexican food and this was his enthusiastic reply: CHAK BALAM. We were not disappointed in any way, shape or form. Excellent in every regard. This restaurant is still relatively new and to be honest, it looked closed at first glance. We are so glad we stopped and we wish them all the best success in their venture. read more

First off, the pin for this place is off. It's right on 24. This place in very small, but was really hopping the night we went in. We actually already ate dinner somewhere else, but came here mostly for desserts, which they were happy to accommodate. We did get chips and salsa (good) and queso dip (very good!) before desserts. They were out of two of the desserts, which made me sad, but we enjoyed a few others. Flautas was good (Apple cinnamon), and the flan was excellent! Nice firm but creamy texture. Very friendly service. Great find in a town with not many options. read more

Does not look like much on the outside, but wow is it good!! We came for breakfast after finding out the original restaurant we were going to was not opened yet for the season. This place was GREAT. I got the carne asada con huevos, and my dad got the breakfast burrito. Both were tasty and the hot sauce is delicious. read more
