Staying in Bicknell after visiting Capitol Reef National park and needed a place to eat dinner. This place had lots of positive reviews so this was our choice. Wow! Reviews didn't lie! It's located in Torrey- you can spot the gravel parking lot with lots of cars in front. In fact we actually didn't see the restaurant because there were 2 rows of cars parked in front-a good sign! The menu was varied- from pizza ( more about that later), steak, salads, sandwiches, trout, mexican food. Good selection of alcoholic drinks, beer and soft drinks and even ice cream floats. The meals came with a choice of salad or soup and choice of baked or mashed potato, fries or vegetables. I ordered the steak sandwich which was strips of steak with grilled vegetables -onions and peppers, cheese and a spread of guacamole. It was served on crusty ciabatta bread. I asked for no added salt on the steak and they graciously accommodated me. It was nicely seasoned and didn't need the extra salt. The meat was nice and tender. Hubby ordered the starter dish taco (2) and it had a large piece of battered fried fish. It was crispy and moist. It could be an entree! I saw other diners order the burger and it was thick and large. Another party ordered the large pizza- let me tell you it was huge-almost big as a lazy susan. It could easily feed four or more. And the price was so reasonable- $23 for the premium pizza and $22 for the others. Looking around, all the meals that came out were generously portioned. No wonder the place was full! In spite of the steady flow of customers, the staff was very friendly and helpful and came by to refill waters. We didn't have to wait too long for the food in spite of the busyness. Likely one of the better options near Capitol Reef NP. The fish tacos were generously portioned and the sauce was excellent. As others mentioned the steak sandwich is a solid choice. We also had a root beer float but was rather small for being a large on the receipt. Interior was up to par as well as the service. read more

We enjoyed this cafe so much, we came back and ate here again before we left Torrey. I had the Bacon Bison Burger both times with side salad and fries. My wife had the Southwestern Chicken Wrap on the 1st visit and a medium Deluxe Pizza on our 2nd visit. We were extremely happy with the food and service both occasions. Nothing fancy but very clean and are certain they practice good food safety. I asked for mayo both times and they brought out a cold bottle of Dukes Mayo. Give this place a try. read more

Do not hesitate to stop here. The grilled pork chop is the most tender and flavorful I've ever had and the grilled pineapple put it over the top. The fajita shrimp tacos also delicious. Stopped here during our travels on a Sunday afternoon. The service was quick and friendly and the food was delicious. I had the bison burger and my husband had the brisket sandwich. Both were served with choice of soup or side salad and an additional side. The fries were delicious- appeared to be fresh cut in house. Such a delicious meal as we ventured from our regular restaurants. We are "locals" and haven't been here since the restaurant had new owners. What a pleasant surprise. Prices are a bit high for an average family ($18) for a cheese burger, but the meal came with a very small salad and a nice portion of delicious fries. I was asked how I wanted my meat cooked -- nice touch. The large-portion bun was buttered and condiments were on the large cheeseburger. I was given the choice if pepper jack or American cheese. Natasha was our server and was attentive and friendly. She answered all questions and checked back with us. We'll go back again. PS In the winter months in Capitol Reef Country, very few restaurants are open. You are lucky this one is. They have a diverse menu too. read more

We had the chicken wrap and cheese steak sandwich for lunch. The cheese steak was decent, bun could have been toasted, but the fries were limp and soggy - gross. My wife liked her chicken wrap. We ordered pizza a few evenings later since the food trucks were a no-show, and it it was the worst pizza I've ever had. Soggy crust was underdone and doughy, the sauce was too sweet and the toppings were bland. The french bread pizza my mom made when I was a kid was way better. read more

After a busy day hiking at Arches National Park and the drive to Torrey we were tired and hungry. So Rock Reef Cafe came to the rescue!!!! A medium Combo Pizza and draft beer were outstanding. We're used to really good pizza but this was awesome. The staff and service could not have been better. When I complimented the server she was so appreciative and gushed that her son was helping too. 1 Star Disrespectful and Unprofessional Experience My husband and I were visiting Capitol Reef National Park and, after waking up later than usual due to not feeling well, we headed to The Rock Reef Café in Torrey for a late breakfast around 11:10 AM. The restaurant was completely empty--which should have been the first red flag. After being seated and given water, we looked over the menu and realized breakfast was no longer being served. When our server came to take our order, I politely asked if breakfast was still available, and she confirmed it was not. We thanked her, apologized for the inconvenience, and explained we were leaving to find a place still serving breakfast. As we were walking out, the hostess--assuming I didn't speak Spanish--called out from across the restaurant to the waitress saying, "If they wanted breakfast, they should've woken up earlier." (I'm Cuban and Spanish is my first language, though I may not look it.) I turned around and let her know, in Spanish, that I understood every word. She seemed surprised but instead of apologizing, she doubled down and said she could say whatever she wanted. To make matters worse, as we were heading to our car, she came outside and continued to shout at us. I told her she was rude and clearly not suited for customer service. This experience was incredibly disappointing. Everyone has the right to dine where they feel respected--and we most definitely did not feel that here. I hope the management takes this seriously, because no one should be treated with such blatant disrespect. read more

We needed a late-night dinner after a full day in Capitol Reef National Park and this place was perfect. Torrey is a small town in a remote area, so we weren't sure if we would find a good option. We walked in around 8:40 and we were given very friendly service; they closed at 9. The menu options were good. Both the friend chicken sandwich and the fried chicken salad were nicely prepared, very tasty and a good size portion. The pizzas looked really good too. Service was friendly and unhurried. They allowed me and my dogs to sit on the patio while I enjoyed a late lunch/early dinner. I had the malibu chicken sandwich, which was a grilled chicken breast with cheese and ham. It came with fries on a fresh challah style roll. This was a perfect place to enjoy a freshly grilled bite to eat right outside of Capitol Reef National Park. What a nice restaurant! We had a delicious breakfast-- mine was the trout with eggs, fruit, toast and home fries, while my husband loved his cheddar and bacon omelette.
