Went on a Friday night, and the orders came out quickly. Ordered the Braised Mushroom and Chipotle Sweet Potato Hash Tacos, both delicious. The Chipotle Sweet Potato Hash Tacos won my favor because of the divine green sauce that comes on top. The Braised Mushroom Taco sauce is mildly spicy. At the Georgetown location at least, customers go upt o a kiosk and put in the order, wait for their name to be called out, and pick up the order. read more

Chaia - Vegetarian Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

Chaia is hands down my favorite place to eat in Georgetown-- lunch, dinner, snack? The answer is always Chaia. While I'm not a vegetarian, I have a deep appreciation for vegetarian entrees, and well cooked and seasoned vegetables, and Chaia gets it right every time. If you're not familiar, their thing is tacos filled with veggies. You can purchase them individually, or go for a trio, and I believe they have quesadillas now as well. I always go for a taco trio, and my go-to faves are the creamy kale potato one (seriously amazing, idk what they put in this but WOW the cream sauce), the sweet potato one (yes, I love potatoes), and then probably the cumin cauliflower. However, they're all amazing. When you go inside you order on a screen to which reduces your contact with others, which I appreciate too. There is some indoor seating but in this day and age I often take my food to go which is quick and easy there. read more

I ordered the black bean enchiladas and they were good! I also tried a sweet potato taco and the potato and kale. The potato and kale was the best. I ordered online, twice, and the girl working there that's thin with blonde hair was was not the most friendly. She happened to be there both days I ordered. Otherwise, I enjoyed the enchiladas the most. I accidentally ordered regular the first time and went back for the vegan ones which were as equally as delicious! I would go again. read more

This place is not in plain sight. If you are looking for vegetarian/vegan tacos, I would recommend this place as there is a lot of flavor in most of the tacos. I ordered the eggplant, sweet potato, and the mushroom ones and they were good. The eggplant was a bit soggy and the mushroom one was a but tough. The flavor was there for both and the sweet potato was just the sweet potato flavor overall. It was nothing that I would travel very far for. The layout of the place was interesting. I probably wouldn't come back again as 3 tacos were $11 and I did not think it was worth it. read more

Self serve and stand to get food. Food was tasty but small portions for sure. The drink of lime tea was nothing special.

This vegan / vegetarian Mexican food inspired eatery is delightful! I had seen some videos about it on TikTok and always meant to go, so I finally decided to try it out. It did not disappoint! It definitely has a cafe ambiance in that you order the food at kiosks and then find a table for yourself, but the spot itself was pretty cute and cozy. I am a vegetarian and my boyfriend eats meat, but he loved his black bean enchiladas and my tacos were phenomenal. Also the price for two entrees and two drinks was $30-40, which is a steal considering all that we got! They have the option to add vegan cheese (daiya) to your tacos and entrees or go without it, since not everyone likes vegan cheese. Additionally, everything was seasoned so well and used many different vegetables creatively, like my sweet potato tacos. Also they had baked goods and alcoholic drinks which I was not expecting at all! If you're vegetarian or just like eating vegetables, I highly recommend Chaia Tacos! read more

Great vegetarian and vegan-friendly food. Even my dad, who typically hates vegan food, liked his meal. We had the black bean enchiladas. One vegan, one vegetarian. The rice was very tasty and the meal was nicely satisfying. Also enjoyed the margaritas. All-around great spot! read more

Absolutely loved this stop! It's such a pleasure to find a place where you can get some vegetarian tacos that are absolutely delicious. Honestly I was surprised they were vegetarian because everything was so good. We were able to enjoy the sweet potato nachos along with the taco trio and every bite was absolutely exquisite. Service is wonderful and everyone is very helpful. Even though you put in your own order there are people there to help, the vibe and ambience of the location in Georgetown was so cute. This is a nice little place specializing in vegetarian tacos. The food is excellent - I got the beet Taco, the potato and creamy kale taco, and the mushroom taco. The potato and creamy kale taco was my favorite. I also got the black bean and Tahini Dip with Chips - a flavor combination that I've never had before but it was delicious. I appreciate how they cater to vegetarian cruising and don't use highly processed food like fake meats, and you can also substitute cheese with vegan options. Definitely recommend. read more

Stopped here for a snack during my visit to DC. Let me start by saying I'm a hard-core carnivore so I was a little skeptical about this place. The inside is cute and clean. There aren't that many tables on the first floor, but there is more seating upstairs. My wife ordered 3 different tacos (sautéed green cabbage, chipotle sweet potato, and creamy kale potato (the best!)). The tacos came out in about 5 minutes. They were all flavorful in their own way with really fresh ingredients that you can all taste individually. After trying these tacos, I'd definitely be down to come back! read more

My husband and I came here as a quick stop since I am gluten free. We got the seasonal special and a quesadilla. The tacos were probably the least flavorful tacos I have had. They were "tolerable" when it comes to flavor - bland and uninteresting. A sauce was included but it was more like tomato bisque soup in my opinion. The types of vegetables they used were not dynamic (in texture, flavor, etc.). Some veggies fell straight through the corn tortilla. I cannot fathom how we paid $30 between the two of us for a small meal with so little protein and dynamics. Ambiance was lacking, no music, the staff seemed down and out & did not interact with us (self service ordering machine). The one thing I will say is the tacos were very colorful. So once unwrapped they were appealing to look at. We call this one a "flop" which is really a bummer since we were only in DC for the night. read more

What an awesome spot to visit if you are vegan or vegetarian! Even if you are a meat-eater, you will find something that satisfies your cravings at Chaia tacos! You can't go wrong with the delicious selection of tacos and foods-- healthy and flavorful fast food that doesn't feel like fast food. Pros: - Quality and Selection: Many different types of vegetarian tacos, with ingredients like Mushroom, potato, and asparagus. All seasoned with delicious sauces and spices! I really very much enjoyed the potato and kale taco. All tacos are clearly labeled ad vegan or vegetarian, as well. I grabbed a hibiscus tea, as well, which was really delicious and paired well with my tacos. - Price: The price of the tacos is super reasonable. You can get a trio of tacos for $3 each, which is definitely a filling portion size for the average person. Individual tacos are $4.25 each. I also grabbed a tea for a few dollars. - Cute atmosphere and convenient to outdoor seating: Such a cute design inside-- modern and sleek with pops of color that remind you of the healthy and natural origins of the food that you are eating. There are some small tables to sit at inside the restaurant. Behind the restaurant, there is a seating area with a view of the C&O canal You can easily grab your food to go and eat it at one of the tables there. - Friendly service: Service here is super friendly, and the folks working behind the desk are patient as you ask them questions or get recommendations on the food. Cons: - Not so much a pure con but an observation -- on weekends, this location is often quite crowded, and understandably so, because it is great! So if you are planning to go at lunch, maybe just get there a bit early. The line does move very quickly, which is very impressive, but sometimes it can be visually deterring how long it is. read more

Chaia - Delicious taco trio !! I selected a mushroom, a potato, and a bean-based taco - Vegetarian Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

Checked out Chaia after shopping with a friend in Georgetown. Such a good find! I'm not a big fan of vegetarian tacos, but this place blew me away by the wide variety of tacos and enchiladas for such a good price. The alcoholic drinks were a good added bonus as well! Ordering was super easy with the computers (there was also a cashier) and food came out less than 5 minutes after I ordered. What I got: - Chipotle Sweet Potato Hash Taco: This was by far my favorite taco!! There was so much flavor besides just the sweet potato itself. The sauce on this was AMAZING! - Butternut Squash Taco: This one had a good blend of sweet and salty, with a kick of cilantro. - Braised Mushroom Taco: I'm a mushroom gal and I saved this taco for last thinking it would be my favorite, but I was slightly disappointed with this one since the other two had so much flavor. - Creamy Kale and Potato Taco: If you like kale, you'll be pleasantly surprised by this taco! The creaminess makes this taco so unique. Probably my second favorite taco I tried! - Sangria: For $6, this was a steal! It basically tasted like juice, but I definitely felt a little tipsy after chugging it. If you're feeling curious, get the taco trio for $13! I found it to be such a good deal. Each item on the menu here is so intriguing. I will definitely be back to try everything!! read more

Chaia is my favorite place to grab a quick bit to eat in Georgetown. They have an easy-no contact ordering system for both din-in and takeout. Don't let their vegetarian tacos fool you, they are amazing! They also serve alcohol and other non-taco food items. The seating is super causal with only indoor seating. Vegan Mexican spot featuring mostly tacos, quesadillas, sweet potato nachos, and some other snacks/bites! The whole concept is super cool but there are some things I wish Chaia would improve. For example, you order off a computer and you can't ask anyone what they like! I ordered tacos: the potato one (not vegan), mushrooms, and the carrot one. All my tacos were good and I ate the whole thing but I feel like there could be more flavor. My friend got the quesadilla with the sweet potato nachos. The nachos were mostly chips with barely any toppings but we both agreed it was one of the best dishes we tried. I also got the ginger kombucha and it was good but a little too sweet. read more

Pretty good spot just way overpriced for vegetarian tacos. I ordered the mushroom quesadilla 6/10, creamy kale and potato taco 7.5/10, and the enchiladas 8.5/10. Turns out, you CAN be a total foodie and a vegetarian and Chaia taught me that. I've been slowly tapering off meat and dairy from our diet and was wondering about the loss of food experiences. Chaia then walks in with a full menu with fun textures and flavors to remind me there is life after meat and it is good. I enjoyed the braised mushroom taco the best. The flavors for the Moroccan carrot taco were good, but the texture was too hard for a taco filling. Just a little softer and it would be perfect. Or maybe some corn or something soft to mellow out the fibrous carrot pieces. Or cut them into smaller squares so they're easier to chew? Too many suggestions? I am just excited! Great spot and I'll make any excuse to come back to see what they have on the menu! read more

Good tacos but these are too small for the cost. I like everything that I've had at Chaia but the cost. The tacos are just too small for that much. All vegetarian items. You can also get sides like soups. I came here recently with a friend. She mentioned how highly rated this place was and how everyone liked it. That was enough to make me want to check it out. Entire menu is vegetarian friendly. It looks like all tacos come with a cheese but you can modify it. The tacos are pretty expensive for being small. It's about $5 or so each. This is just too much. I did think they were really good. The mushroom taco had lots of flavor and texture. It didn't take long for me to finish it. There's just not that much in them because these are miniature tacos. It has a cool location. It's only a few blocks from the river. Take your tacos there for a more comfortable place to eat these. read more

Chaia is one of my favorite places to go for a healthy lunch or dinner! The location itself is super cute with a calm and modern ambiance, and the food is divine. I almost always order the potato-based tacos. Despite not having an ounce of meat, they have tons of umami flavor and are significant in size, so much so that you'll likely be full after three. 5/5. The Brussels sprout quesadilla was a new one for me, and I really enjoyed it! It's not as thick (or as greasy) as other quesadillas, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in flavor. The crunch of the Brussels was an excellent contrast to the gooey cheese interior, alongside the crunchy tortilla. I also thought the sauce was a great bonus, adding a lot of flavor to the otherwise tame quesadilla. 4/4, The chips are just chips, but the black bean dip is absolutely killer (if you like black beans). This is a rare scenario in which the dip container actually holds enough dip for all your chips. The thickness and power of the black bean flavor held me back from completely coating my chips (like I might do with a liquid cheese dip). The end result: perfectly balanced bites that didn't stop until my chip tray was empty. 5/5. I think I also ordered a hibiscus beverage. You can never go wrong with a fruity drink! And this one wasn't as overpoweringly sweet as you might expect. 5/5. read more

Lovely space in Georgetown for a delicious veggie meal! When you enter into Chaia there are a few small tables as you make your way to the counter to order and watch your meal be prepared. More tables, some a bit larger, are available upstairs -- which feels a bit more cozy, comfortable. My friend and I arrived early, so while waiting for our other friend, we ordered sangria and took it upstairs to await his arrival. After his arrival, we ordered another glass of the sangria -- really good! -- and our meals. I decided to order the trio. The tacos are $4 a piece, so the trio is $3. I had the creamy kale & potato, braised mushroom and the skillet sweer corn. My friend also tried the charred green beans -- which sounded good to me except the jalapeno salsa. He did confirm the salsa got a bit of spice. Overall favorite was the corn! I had a hard time with the texture of the mushroom, but I'm also just embarking on the journey of being a fan of mushrooms. I also ordered the green rice based on fellow yelpers! So so good! Great crunch from pepitas, creaminess from cheese and flavorful rice. For vegan friends, the restaurant can make all tacos - with the exception of the creamy kale & potato without dairy products. The location in Georgetown does not offer vegan cheese, but the china town location apparently does. read more

Yum! Chaia Tacos specializes in vegetarian tacos. The cashier was friendly, kind, and very helpful. I love the laid back ambiance in here. Their tacos look amazing and taste even better. You can't go wrong with any of their tacos but the Creamy Kale and Potato was one of our faves. Hubs, who loves all things meat enjoyed his tacos filled with veggies. Chaia uses quality ingredients and the flavors are all there. The consistency of the vegetables were perfect too! Their Lemon Ginger Shrub drink was refreshing and very well made. We stopped in here since my travel companions are vegan. So, yes, there are vegan as well as vegetarian options. The ordering process is all on a touchscreen tablet, which there is only one of. So, if they are busy, the wait time kind of increases because you have to wait for people to complete their order on the tablet. Then, people were waiting in the little alcove right next to the tablet for their orders to be called so it was confusing to know who was in line to order and who was in line to pick up their order. I think that part could be streamlined to not make the entryway and food preparation area look so cluttered. The dining room is pretty small and they seemed to still have the tables spaced out for social distancing so that made things look even smaller. There is an additional dining area upstairs but on the day we went it was quite warm outside and the heat rose to the upstairs portion which is not air-conditioned. The downstairs was air-conditioned though. The bathroom is also upstairs and the lock/latch was broken, so you kind of had to lean against the door or hope no one busted in on you which you're using the toilet. Now for the food, I ordered the black bean enchiladas and a scrambled egg and black bean taco on the side. The enchiladas take a bit of time to make as they have to bake them. The aluminum container that they were baked in was scalding hot, so if you order them, please proceed with caution when taking them out of the bag or taking off the lid. It was kind of a good thing it was scalding since the taco seemed lukewarm and actually quite unremarkable and the enchilada container seemed to heat up the taco so it was actually palatable. The enchiladas were perfect though. *chef kiss* The cheese was amazing and the black beans were subtle in flavor but melded together with the authentic tortillas and sauce and green rice. Per the menu it's "two enchiladas with pepper jack, salsa verde and pea greens, served with our herby green rice." I think since they were piping hot, that also helped since I was so hungry. So it was worth the wait. The total price was $13 for the enchiladas and $4.50 for the individual taco. The enchiladas were actually very filling and I could have done just fine without the taco. I also got a bottle of water which I think was $4.50 so a pretty decent meal for just over $20. read more

Okay so vegan tacos may sound too trendy or posh for your liking BUT as a fellow skeptic I can reassure you that these are worth the hype. The tacos are packed with so much flavor, that even meat lovers won't leave disappointed. They are also surprisingly filling, and I'm usually full with their three taco combo. The tacos change by the season, but the mushroom, cauliflower, and potato tacos are some of my favorites. Prices are a bit high ($4 per taco), but you are buying vegan tacos in Georgetown, so that's not entirely unexpected. I recommend coming during the day time and taking your food to eat by the waterfront. Ummmm...where have these tacos been my whole life?! My family asked me to pick lunch. None of them like mushrooms and I had been craving a mushroom taco since basically the start of my life so as soon as I saw this menu I knew it was where we would end up for lunch. Their ordering system is completely self driven. You can order from your phone or order from the kiosk inside the restaurant. It is and easy to use system and took no time at all. My youngest child ordered the cheese quesadilla because she's super picky and I wanted her to have something she would actually eat. She devoured it so needless to say, it must have been good. My oldest child had the skillet corn taco, the creamy kale and potato taco, and the scrambled egg and black bean taco. She said they were all really good, but the creamy kale taco really surprised her with how delicious it was. She commented that we obviously need to come back here so she can try some of the others. I had the braised mushroom taco, the sweet potato hash taco, and the creamy kale and potato. All of them were so flavorful, so delicious. They were exactly what I was looking for. I also tried the chips and dip and really enjoyed the tahini black bean (the habanero pepita was very good too, I just preferred the texture of the black bean dip). My husband had the sweet potato hash taco and skillet corn taco and gave them both two thumbs WAY up. Such a great lunch or dinner spot. We will definitely be back. read more

Outstanding. I'm not a vegetarian but this place could convert me. Everything is delicious, incredibly fresh, super duper flavor. Margaritas-yes! It's not a bar, it was in a plastic cup with a straw, there was no salt, but the drink was goooood. Probably because it was simple & fresh. The Paloma with mezcal was delicious too. Try all the drinks. Tacos-I tried a whole bunch of them with a group, they were all amazing. All of them. Dips-get both. Idk. Just really tasty. And you can get anything vegan.
