I visited Boston and had to check out they hype. This is really one of the best sandwiches that I have ever had. I went around 2 so it wasn't too crowded (although I was shocked at the amount of people still eating then) and I was able to see what they were putting on my sandwich. Consisted of bread, chicken, munster cheese, hot sauce, avocados, and green beans. Weirdest part was the green beans but it all worked together! It was great. And I didn't need any chips or anything added as the sandwich definitely filled me up. I remember back in the day when Chacarero was a food truck/food stand in Downtown Crossing. I kept saying...I'm gonna go check it out, I'm gonna go check it out...but never did. The smells coming from Chacarero were intoxicating though. Sigh. Then I stopped working in Downtown Crossing...and never really followed up on this awesome Chilean foodie spot...until this afternoon. I walked in and perused the menu for a little bit. The first thing I looked for was a vegetarian option for my husband, and then something for me. I got a large vegetarian sandwich/burger thing, and then I ordered a large combo (steak and chicken) for myself. All sandwiches come with muenster cheese, jalapeno sauce, tomatoes, string beans, tomatoes, and avocado spread. I got both with all these fixins to go. They added roasted red peppers to hubby's vegetarian sandwich. :) I love that they were cut in half cuz they are HUGE. I ate the smaller half for dinner and saved the bigger half for lunch tomorrow. Hubs loved his and as for his review, he said, "I was very happy and satisfied; spices were evenly distributed throughout the sandwich and it was really good. I'd definitely go back!" Great place for lunch. They serve delicious Chilean sandwiches that are delicious and easy to eat. They have chicken, beef, and combos (in regular or BBQ flavors), both of which are good. I especially like the spicy guacamole sauce. Gives it a nice kick, though not too strong. Comes to about $9-10 for a large or $8-9 for a small. Usually pretty busy during lunch. My workmates put me on to this place back in 2008, and ever since I've been a loyal fan of the large grilled chicken sandwich, with extra hot sauce. The food is simple, but so delicious. They grill the chicken, place it on a well seasoned with hot sauce fresh giant bun, and then cover it with green beens (weird, but it works!) and as a smooth spread of avocado. Cut in half and serve. It's likely the fastest simplest thing you could order, and not feel that huge amount of regret from a big caloric intake. I'm sure it has calories, but it's not unhealthy in any way. I think I'm in love. Super tasty. Super cheap. Just super. I started working downtown and went to Chacarero one of the first lunches I had down there. As their sign says, a Chacarero is a traditional Chilean sandwich. Basically, you choose either beef, chicken, or both, and they make you a kickASS sandwich. It has steamed green beans, Muenster cheese, and tomatoes. Add in their delicious avacado spread along with salt and pepper and we're in business. Every time I bite into a Chacarero my taste buds rejoice and reward me by giving me a burst of strength to last through the rest of the day. Literally the only bad thing I can say about this place is that the line at lunch can get to be VERY long. They have a system in place that makes it go very fast with ruthless efficiency akin to Al's near South Station (not nearly as scary though). They somehow manage to refrain from messing up any orders in my experience and shuttle people through to their delicious fates. The menu has other options, all which are just as reasonably priced as the Chacarero. I've had their empanada before, which is very good, but tends to run out if you don't get there early due to limited quantity. Honestly though, just get the sandwich, you won't regret it. Pro-tip: If you're feeling particularly adventurous ask them to put on their hot spread at the counter when you get your sandwich. It'll put your mouth on fire. But in a good way. This might be an OK sandwich for Bostonians without a frame of reference, but they can't fool this true Chilean. The sandwich was seriously lacking in the avocado and cheese department. The avocado tasted like instant avocado paste rather than true fresh avocado. And they only put a very thin layer on. And one single slice of the saddest looking muenster cheese. True chilean churrascos use a chilean cheese that more closely resembles havarti cheese. And there should be more than just the one slice. The chicken empanadas were OK, but not a traditional flavor. The disappointment was compounded by the price. I paid $37 for 2 sandwiches, 2 empanadas and 2 waters. Won't be coming back here. read more

A unique chain for Boston, Chacarero's offers up a great sandwich. Choose beef or chicken, served on a round fluffy bread with guac, hot sauce, green beans, and tomatoes. ($6 for a small $7 for a large) There is also a vegetarian option, but I haven't tried it yet. If you're going at noon there can be a really long wait. However, for a late lunch, this can be a great destination. The 101 Arch Street local had a great guy making the sandwiches today. Aside from the Falafel King, he was the fastest sandwich line worker I've seen. Really friendly too. I really do suggest going to this particular store. Its a new location, and really open. On off hours (after 1pm) there is plenty of seating. I think they even keep it open slightly after most of the Financial District restaurants have closed, if you're looking for a fast food dinner. Hint: A small is a good sized sandwich for lunch. Came here with a good friend to catch up over lunch. She recommended it and said they had been around for a while since she was younger with a little window and growing their business to a bigger storefront with small tables. Luckily there wasn't too long of a line after 12:30 since it was a rainy day. I got a small bbq beef sandwich with all the toppings since it was my first time trying a Chilean sandwich. As a Muenster cheese fan, I thought I'd try the little chicken sandwich spot out. Not many places sell sandwiches with Muenster cheese. But then they started to put a green spread on it and STRING BEANS! What in the world is up with that!? Is started to say never mind. I didn't want that **** on my sandwich. But instead, I said YOLO (wasn't really saying YOLO back then, but you get the point). I paid my $4 for my sandwich, closed my eyes and took a reluctant bite...WOW! MAGNIFICENT! AWESOME SAUCE! INCREÍBLE! What a delight!? The bread is perfectly textured. The chicken thin, but juicy. The cheese melted to perfection. And the string beans... well without them, it's just a boring old chicken sandwich. Not sure how I missed this place being two streets away for 3 years. It is quite delicious. The sandwiches are big. I usually get the combo, with chicken and beef, and add red peppers. The red peppers cost extra but are worth it. Reasons I gave it four stars instead of five: 1. It's expensive. A sandwich with red peppers will cost me $13. 2. The ordering line and system is weird. It reminds me of TSA. A woman is standing near the entrance with a tablet and takes your order, you then go through the ropes and sections to get to the front. Sometimes, your order is messed up because they are reading off a screen. Sometimes, they forget the red peppers or any extras. There's been times where I've received a small sandwich when ordering a regular. Or a completely different sandwich. The food itself is worth 5 stars, there's just those two hang ups. read more

You walk in, place your order and pay up front, then go to the next line where the staff already has your order and you can specify what you want in your meal. They're most known for their Chilean sandwiches although they have breakfast and a ton of sides like empanadas, salads, potatoes, rice pudding, etc. I got the small combo sandwich and loved it at first bite, but definitely eat it hot because it's very okay once it cools down. What makes the sandwich stand out the most is the avocado spread and spicy spread that really reminds me of Latin American sandwiches. However, I work in a far off neighborhood and so I'm not there 9-6 M-F to get my Chacarero on. I was surprised to find this place in downtown Boston. I had the chicken sandwich although the real chilean chacarero sandwich is made with beef only and with french style green beans, a much smaller and softer variety and a lot more avocado. The bread was fresh and delicious. I also tried meat empanadas. Empanadas vary from country to country. Chacarero prepares them the authentic chilean style. Thre were amazing. After four years of trying to get my hands on Chacarero's famed Chilean chicken sandwich (there were multiple failed attempts over the years as I don't work downtown), I finally succeeded today. But alas, the taste fell far short of my over-hyped expectations :( I was rather disappointed by the bland flavors. There was a wisp of heat from the hot sauce, but it did little to liven up the boring chicken breast and mealy winter tomatoes. And the signature green beans? Well, they were an unappetizing puke green color. Maybe they were pickled (?), but I had imagined them to be slightly crunchy and vibrant green. The bread was nice and soft, but again, not life-changing by any means. The portion (I ordered a small) was filling enough, but it didn't taste amazing like a $7 sandwich should. (These are mostly, in fact, things to avoid.) I'm talking about things like, having a story about the Hong Kong scorpion bowl. I'm talking about knowing DJ NiteTrain, Spare Change Guy, and "MOVE!" Guy. I'm talking about being able to pick an Allston resident out of a crowd with better than 90% accuracy. (Nothin' against ya! Love ya, Allston!) I'm talking, my friends, about becoming addicted to Chacarero sandwiches. The small is the size of your face. I can't even imagine what a large looks like. I always promise myself that I'll eat half on the way back to my apartment, and half for dinner. Nope, never. I always end up plopping down on the Common and chowing down until I can't move, and then hanging out in the sun waiting for the afterglow to pass. My personal favorite is the BBQ Beef. The ingredients are quality. The green beans (yes green beans -- I was skeptical too because I typically haaate green beans) are perfectly cooked; a little snap to them, a little sweetness, not so overdone that they taste like garbage. The muenster cheese is perfect, and I've been effectively convinced to get avacado spread on all sandwiches wherever it's available from now on. I gotta get it extra spicy, too. Now, take this with a grain of salt, because this IS coming from the girl who went through a bottle of habanero sauce in a week. I like to feel like I'm chewing on razor blades when I'm eating. I wanna CRY, man. The "extra spicy" sauce IS pretty spicy. It's not melt-your-face spicy (in my opinion, at least), but you'll be feeling some solid burn before you're done with the sandwich. The service is incredibly friendly, too. The first time I went, I blew right by the "order" counter (it's kinda confusing) and the woman was incredibly nice about teaching me how it's done. Its taken me years of extensive research to perfect this sandwich for my liking, from which I now bequeath to you. BBQ chicken, extra hot, extra guac, throw in a baked sweet potato fry...and an Orangina. Normally (as anyone will tell you) I'm a beefy kinda guy, but here I find the beef a bit chewy & stringy and not nearly as good as the chicken. I'm not really a guac guy either per say, but the Chac guac really seems to pull it all together and soothe your taste buds after the 'extra hot' has taken effect. Also, tell them about the extra guac while they're making your sandwich, not at the cashier - as they will charge you extra for it and probably forget to give it to you. Enjoy! read more

Ok, I confess, I wasn't thrilled with Chacarero the first time I went. It was good, yes, but when SO many yelpers rave about one place, I expect to have the Best. Lunch. Ever. And I didn't, really. However, it was good enough to crave again and run to the ATM (they've stopped taking cards) instead of just going somewhere else. With some modifications to my order (beef instead of chicken, extra hot), it really elevated the chacarero to amazingness. A perfect combination of textures and flavors and actually pretty healthy! Garbage. I don't get it. Horrible sandwiches. I've seen the lines - been here twice just to give them a second chance. Their signature sandwich has no flavor.
