I've never had Chilean food before so this was a new try for me. I went in around 4:30pm on a Friday so there wasn't anyone else in the restaurant. The staff was very accommodating in helping me choose since I wasn't sure what to get. In their down-time, they were very focused on the soccer game on the TV (note - this didn't take away from my experience, I watched it with them!) I ordered a Chilean beef sandwich which comes with muenster cheese, tomato, and green beans. I opted to forego avocado and hot sauce since I'm not a fan of either but if you like them, I'm sure they would be great. It was a solid sandwich and complimented well by the sweet potato fries (baked, not fried). If you've never been to a Chilean place (there aren't any where I'm from), this is a great stop to try something new and different! read more

Chacarero - Chilean beef sandwich with sweet potato fries - Sandwiches Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

See all

I remember back in the day when Chacarero was a food truck/food stand in Downtown Crossing. I kept saying...I'm gonna go check it out, I'm gonna go check it out...but never did. The smells coming from Chacarero were intoxicating though. Sigh. Then I stopped working in Downtown Crossing...and never really followed up on this awesome Chilean foodie spot...until this afternoon. I walked in and perused the menu for a little bit. The first thing I looked for was a vegetarian option for my husband, and then something for me. I got a large vegetarian sandwich/burger thing, and then I ordered a large combo (steak and chicken) for myself. All sandwiches come with muenster cheese, jalapeno sauce, tomatoes, string beans, tomatoes, and avocado spread. I got both with all these fixins to go. They added roasted red peppers to hubby's vegetarian sandwich. :) I love that they were cut in half cuz they are HUGE. I ate the smaller half for dinner and saved the bigger half for lunch tomorrow. Hubs loved his and as for his review, he said, "I was very happy and satisfied; spices were evenly distributed throughout the sandwich and it was really good. I'd definitely go back!" There ya have it, Yelpers. Chacarero!! :) read more

Great place for lunch. They serve delicious Chilean sandwiches that are delicious and easy to eat. They have chicken, beef, and combos (in regular or BBQ flavors), both of which are good. I especially like the spicy guacamole sauce. Gives it a nice kick, though not too strong. Comes to about $9-10 for a large or $8-9 for a small. Usually pretty busy during lunch. Have seen the line get out the door a few times, but it moves quickly. Definitely a go to lunch spot for me around downtown. read more

Solid sandwich place right next to downtown crossing. Their sandwiches are pretty large. The bread is fresh and the meat is well seasoned. I can't tell the difference between the BBQ and the original sandwich (seems like the BBQ was slightly more charred) so save yourself 50¢ and go for the normal. The sweet potato fries are a little soggy so I would skip those. The line gets long during the lunch rush but moves relatively fast. I was probably in an out in under 10 minutes despite the line being out the door. read more

Great...one of the kind sandwiches...the line speaks for itself. I always get the small chicken sandwich...freshly baked bread with thinly slice chicken breasts with creamy avocado spread with string beans...perfecto. read more

I think I'm in love. Super tasty. Super cheap. Just super. I started working downtown and went to Chacarero one of the first lunches I had down there. As their sign says, a Chacarero is a traditional Chilean sandwich. Basically, you choose either beef, chicken, or both, and they make you a kickASS sandwich. It has steamed green beans, Muenster cheese, and tomatoes. Add in their delicious avacado spread along with salt and pepper and we're in business. Every time I bite into a Chacarero my taste buds rejoice and reward me by giving me a burst of strength to last through the rest of the day. Literally the only bad thing I can say about this place is that the line at lunch can get to be VERY long. They have a system in place that makes it go very fast with ruthless efficiency akin to Al's near South Station (not nearly as scary though). They somehow manage to refrain from messing up any orders in my experience and shuttle people through to their delicious fates. The menu has other options, all which are just as reasonably priced as the Chacarero. I've had their empanada before, which is very good, but tends to run out if you don't get there early due to limited quantity. Honestly though, just get the sandwich, you won't regret it. Pro-tip: If you're feeling particularly adventurous ask them to put on their hot spread at the counter when you get your sandwich. It'll put your mouth on fire. But in a good way. You know, the kind of food that hurts SO GOOD. read more

Chacarero - Can't stop, won't stop. - Sandwiches Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

They do one thing, and they do it really well. I have to applaud that. That one thing is a $9 sandwich, loaded with spice and flavor, made swiftly to order. If you work near Chacarero, you can live your life alternating between this place and Capone's, and be in sandwich heaven for all your days. read more

My workmates put me on to this place back in 2008, and ever since I've been a loyal fan of the large grilled chicken sandwich, with extra hot sauce. The food is simple, but so delicious. They grill the chicken, place it on a well seasoned with hot sauce fresh giant bun, and then cover it with green beens (weird, but it works!) and as a smooth spread of avocado. Cut in half and serve. It's likely the fastest simplest thing you could order, and not feel that huge amount of regret from a big caloric intake. I'm sure it has calories, but it's not unhealthy in any way. They are very consistent, as I've never had a sandwich not taste perfect every time. By the way, on every trip to Boston, I make a walk, rain, shine or blizzard, for some Choc!! read more

Chacarero - The perfect sandwich. - Sandwiches Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

A unique chain for Boston, Chacarero's offers up a great sandwich. Choose beef or chicken, served on a round fluffy bread with guac, hot sauce, green beans, and tomatoes. ($6 for a small $7 for a large) There is also a vegetarian option, but I haven't tried it yet. If you're going at noon there can be a really long wait. However, for a late lunch, this can be a great destination. The 101 Arch Street local had a great guy making the sandwiches today. Aside from the Falafel King, he was the fastest sandwich line worker I've seen. Really friendly too. I really do suggest going to this particular store. Its a new location, and really open. On off hours (after 1pm) there is plenty of seating. I think they even keep it open slightly after most of the Financial District restaurants have closed, if you're looking for a fast food dinner. Hint: A small is a good sized sandwich for lunch. I can eat a large in one sitting, but i usually get a large, eat half for lunch, and have the other half as a snack through out the rest of the day when I'm working (or yelping) late. read more

Love the food here. One star is taken away because the woman at the register was rude after they got my order wrong, as if I'm lying about what I ordered. no apology. That was a one time thing. This is one of my favorite sandwich places overall 2013--I've been here many times and I seriously am addicted. I would say to get there earlier in the day if possible. Near the end the bread can be a bit on the stale side and not really worth it. read more

My friend kept raving about this place so I had to try it. Expect a long line out the door during lunch hours as lots of business and government workers in this section of the financial district. Cash only. I got the beef sandwich and half of it was enough for me. My beef was a little dry but the spicy sauce and green beans compensated for it. It kind of reminds me of a big torta but tastier. Fast service and easy to get a table despite it being such a small place. People are in and out pretty fast. read more

Chacarero - Sandwiches Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

Nice sandwiches. Had chicken sandwich (extra spicy) and it was good. Never did I see boiled beans put in a sandwich, but I was surprised how well it jelled with other ingredients: basil, avocado, chili paste. Very limited menu (primarily sandwiches, salads) and they deliver on it. Will definitely visit if I am around that area. read more

Chacarero is the kind of place that you either love or hate. Me? I love their Chilean cuisine! Where else can you find a place that serves chicken, beef, or combo on a fresh round roll with beefsteak tomatoes, green beans, and Muenster cheese while seasoned with salt & pepper and their signature spicy guacamole sauce? I enjoy it with the extra spicy kick too. What happened to the pricing where the sandwiches used to be rounded to the nearest dollar? Maybe the line would move faster if they didn't have to count out 73 cents change....although the fact that they now take credit & debit cards is a big plus. read more

Came here with a good friend to catch up over lunch. She recommended it and said they had been around for a while since she was younger with a little window and growing their business to a bigger storefront with small tables. Luckily there wasn't too long of a line after 12:30 since it was a rainy day. I got a small bbq beef sandwich with all the toppings since it was my first time trying a Chilean sandwich. It's perfectly seasoned and the avocado spread has a spicy kick. The meat is slightly chewy for me and it's a little messy to eat but it was yummy. I couldn't finish the whole thing and I can't imagine how much bigger a large is. I definitely want to come back and try their giant empanadas! read more

This might be an OK sandwich for Bostonians without a frame of reference, but they can't fool this true Chilean. The sandwich was seriously lacking in the avocado and cheese department. The avocado tasted like instant avocado paste rather than true fresh avocado. And they only put a very thin layer on. And one single slice of the saddest looking muenster cheese. True chilean churrascos use a chilean cheese that more closely resembles havarti cheese. And there should be more than just the one slice. The chicken empanadas were OK, but not a traditional flavor. The disappointment was compounded by the price. I paid $37 for 2 sandwiches, 2 empanadas and 2 waters. Won't be coming back here. read more

Chacarero - Sandwiches Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

The sandwich was good, very good in fact. But it wasn't the type of sandwich that would keep me up at night, which some sandwiches from Various cities have done, and still do. The sandwiches need a different or additional spread, either Mayo or some sorta spicy aioli perhaps (chipotle aioli maybe?), and generally just a touch of flavor, but other than that very good. Also they have fresh OJ, so they get props for that. read more

It was good, but nothing impressive. I liked the green beans and spices in the sandwich, but I thought that the meat was dry and the bun uninteresting. There are so many options for lunch in the area, and I don't think I'd go out of my way to come here. Lines can be long but generally move quickly. read more

Chacarero - Sandwiches Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

This place is a Boston gem! They are right by the financial district servicing the lunch crowds, so they are a well-oiled sandwich-making machine that will get you in and out in no time. Don't let the long lines deter you! The original beef sandwich is the way to go - get it large, and get it spicy. The empanadas are also amazing, but equally as giant as the sandwiches. They can be a meal on their own, but I recommend splitting it with someone if you want to try it all! read more

Consistently delicious! As other reviewers have explained, the sandwich is chicken or beef (regular or barbequed) on a delicious, dense bread, topped with cheese, hot sauce, green beans, avocado spread, tomatoes, and roasted red bell peppers. You can get an even hotter (yellow) sauce if you ask for it. There's also a vegetarian option. The restaurant is clean, the staff are always pleasant and courteous, and the line moves quickly. What's not to like? read more

I lived in Boston/Cambridge area in the late 1990s/early 2000s. When I worked in Downtown I would go to this little storefront spot with only a walk-up window. At first, the lines were small. As a Muenster cheese fan, I thought I'd try the little chicken sandwich spot out. Not many places sell sandwiches with Muenster cheese. But then they started to put a green spread on it and STRING BEANS! What in the world is up with that!? Is started to say never mind. I didn't want that **** on my sandwich. But instead, I said YOLO (wasn't really saying YOLO back then, but you get the point). I paid my $4 for my sandwich, closed my eyes and took a reluctant bite...WOW! MAGNIFICENT! AWESOME SAUCE! INCREÍBLE! What a delight!? The bread is perfectly textured. The chicken thin, but juicy. The cheese melted to perfection. And the string beans... well without them, it's just a boring old chicken sandwich. So, if you're ever in Beantown, yourself a favor, go find the lil storefront chicken spot (now a full restaurant) and ask for the large. Sit back, and enjoy. And tell 'em Deed sent ya. (They will have no idea who you're talking about, it'll still cost the same, but why the heck not. ) read more

Not sure how I missed this place being two streets away for 3 years. It is quite delicious. The sandwiches are big. I usually get the combo, with chicken and beef, and add red peppers. The red peppers cost extra but are worth it. Reasons I gave it four stars instead of five: 1. It's expensive. A sandwich with red peppers will cost me $13. 2. The ordering line and system is weird. It reminds me of TSA. A woman is standing near the entrance with a tablet and takes your order, you then go through the ropes and sections to get to the front. Sometimes, your order is messed up because they are reading off a screen. Sometimes, they forget the red peppers or any extras. There's been times where I've received a small sandwich when ordering a regular. Or a completely different sandwich. The food itself is worth 5 stars, there's just those two hang ups. read more

The Bottom Line: A unique, and probably authentic, Chilean take on sandwiches. The flavors are different enough to keep it interesting every time you come back. Try: Chicken sandwich Pro: The chicken was flat but juicy. The sandwich itself is rather flat, too, but it is difficult to describe the flavors themselves. I'd recommend it if you are working in the area for sure, as it'll keep your lunch interesting in a good way. However, be aware that there is limited seating. May be the size, may be that it is popular. Con: The Chilean approach to sandwiches may not be for everyone. Keep an open mind to green beans in your sandwich. :) read more

Love this place! The generally get a small BBQ beef and it is huge and filling! The green beans are crisp and everything tastes so fresh. The combination may sound strange, but the flavors meld so well. The roll is so fresh and fluffy. I crave it about once a month and usually give in to my craving. Fortunately it's a good walk from my office, so it's good exercise and I don't go there every day, because I would if I could. read more

Chacarero - Small (yet large) BBQ beef, so filling and yummy! - Sandwiches Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

Recommended to us by a local, this place is fantastic. We had the combo sandwich, a large is enough for 2 people to split. Juan the owner is super friendly and helpful. Just steps from the Freedom Trail, in Dec 2021 was only open for lunch from 11-3pm. Support this local business, you won't be sorry. read more

I used to like this place a lot - not anymore! From the two recent orders, I noticed there were many small pieces of beef mixed into my chicken sandwich. The chef should not cook the beef with the chicken- at least not in the exact same spot. This is unacceptable for people who don't eat beef for religious reason. read more

Delicioso los sándwich muy buen servicio todo muy rico muy bueno todo y a tiempo todo

GB-"Hey Chicken!" CHIX-"Whats up green beans?" GB-"How's it going down there?" CHIX-"Oh, you know, it's tough being the best layer of a chacarero. Just kickin it" GB-"Ya? Well, don't tell avocado that. You know what a diva she can be" AVO-"DIVA? I'm no diva! I'm just smooth and luscious. Don't be jealous." TOMATO-"Smooth? Ain't no one smoother than Cheese" CHEESE-"That's right Tomato! No one is the big cheese around here but ME!" BREAD-"Hey hey hey...everyone, quit your bickering! As Bread, I am forcing you all to get along. I run this show, got it?!?!?!. Without me you all would be a HOT MESS" SPICY SAUCE-"Did someone say HOT?!?!?!" CHACARRRREEEERRRROOOOO One of the best sammie's I've ever had. Each ingredient on its own is just okay, but with everything slammed together between a huge fresh baked round, well, it's just amazing. Although I referred to chicken in my sandwich story, beef is also an option, or a combo of both! I say skip the bbq style and opt for the original and if you like spicy, most DEFINITELY go with the "extra spicy" sauce at the end. You have to ask for it, but if you don't like spicy, SKIP IT. It's no joke. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?! GO GET YOUR CHACARERO ON!!! ***Cash only*** read more

Good for a quick gut filling and savory experience. Pros: Great tasting Chilean sandwich. Mountainous but soft pieces of bread, chicken, cheese, tomatoes, long green beans and an amazing avocado sauce Cons: limited seating, long lines (come early) read more

If I was a restaurant, I would copy the ever living f*&% out of this restaurant. I probably couldn't though, considering that everything here is freshly homemade - or at least I don't know where the hell to get it. I would eat that avocado spread stuff by the pound if I could. If the Chilean Albert Einstein came up with the theory of relativity and this sandwich, no one would ever even remember or give a shit about the theory of relativity. Green beans on a sandwich? Greatest idea ever. And the whole rest of the package. Oh yeah, for those not in the know - by sandwich I mean like the one sandwich, the only one they make. You can make some minor alterations - chicken vs. beef, slightly smaller vs. slightly larger, etc. - but you are basically going to walk out with the same freaking amazing sandwich at the end of the day. And it's a sizeable sandwich, too! I could eat the slightly larger beef one for dinner and remain totally satisfied until the morning. I'd probably even eat a small chicken one for breakfast if it was close by, just to switch things up. Cash only. To weed out people who aren't true believers. read more

Place is clean, efficient, and there's a decent amount of tables. Only opened on weekdays to cater to people working in the financial district but what's great about this place is that it's large enough that you won't need to be cramped up waiting for your food, and you most likely won't need to even wait that long. You walk in, place your order and pay up front, then go to the next line where the staff already has your order and you can specify what you want in your meal. They're most known for their Chilean sandwiches although they have breakfast and a ton of sides like empanadas, salads, potatoes, rice pudding, etc. I got the small combo sandwich and loved it at first bite, but definitely eat it hot because it's very okay once it cools down. What makes the sandwich stand out the most is the avocado spread and spicy spread that really reminds me of Latin American sandwiches. I prefer the beef to the chicken, and the fluffy, homemade bread is definitely a game changer. read more

I have to give up the extra star. I dream of these sandwiches, they're that good. Everyone in my office loves them, as do my friends. I've yet to meet anyone who dislikes them. I am however sure that person is no friend of mine. With that said, you need to stop reading and go get a sandwich. read more

I love Chacarero so much that I actively plot and plan the times that I can actually go there when they're open. They're downtown, so they cater mostly to people who work downtown. However, I work in a far off neighborhood and so I'm not there 9-6 M-F to get my Chacarero on. Except: Friday afternoons, especially if I can get some for a road trip out of town Holidays The Summer At those times, I will be at Chacerero. I will ride my bike there and almost die. I will find crappy illegal parking and run in and run out. Anything for those chicken/beef, yummy, warm, and perfect sandwiches with that bread and the sauce. Ohh, I love Chacarero. If you are there at lunch hour, the line, while long, goes super fast. You're in and out in 10 minutes. read more

Charcero seduced me at an early hour with its breakfast sandwich: pillowy soft homemade bread, both sides of which were slathered in avocado spread and held between them, two scrambled eggs. If that doesn't say "good morning" then you should probably go back to sleep! read more

I was surprised to find this place in downtown Boston. I had the chicken sandwich although the real chilean chacarero sandwich is made with beef only and with french style green beans, a much smaller and softer variety and a lot more avocado. The bread was fresh and delicious. I also tried meat empanadas. Empanadas vary from country to country. Chacarero prepares them the authentic chilean style. Thre were amazing. By the way, they accept credit cards. read more

After four years of trying to get my hands on Chacarero's famed Chilean chicken sandwich (there were multiple failed attempts over the years as I don't work downtown), I finally succeeded today. But alas, the taste fell far short of my over-hyped expectations :( I was rather disappointed by the bland flavors. There was a wisp of heat from the hot sauce, but it did little to liven up the boring chicken breast and mealy winter tomatoes. And the signature green beans? Well, they were an unappetizing puke green color. Maybe they were pickled (?), but I had imagined them to be slightly crunchy and vibrant green. The bread was nice and soft, but again, not life-changing by any means. The portion (I ordered a small) was filling enough, but it didn't taste amazing like a $7 sandwich should. In fact, I definitely would not wait in a line 20 deep and out the door for this, so I am glad I didn't have to fight any lunchtime crowds today! read more

There are a few rites of passage involved in becoming a true Bostonian. (We don't ask for 10 years like Manhattan... We just ask a few simple tasks.) No, I'm not talking about learning to call a liquor store a "packie" (although you really do need to know the difference between sprinkles and jimmies), or dropping your "R's," or knocking someone out at a Sox game. (These are mostly, in fact, things to avoid.) I'm talking about things like, having a story about the Hong Kong scorpion bowl. I'm talking about knowing DJ NiteTrain, Spare Change Guy, and "MOVE!" Guy. I'm talking about being able to pick an Allston resident out of a crowd with better than 90% accuracy. (Nothin' against ya! Love ya, Allston!) I'm talking, my friends, about becoming addicted to Chacarero sandwiches. The small is the size of your face. I can't even imagine what a large looks like. I always promise myself that I'll eat half on the way back to my apartment, and half for dinner. Nope, never. I always end up plopping down on the Common and chowing down until I can't move, and then hanging out in the sun waiting for the afterglow to pass. My personal favorite is the BBQ Beef. The ingredients are quality. The green beans (yes green beans -- I was skeptical too because I typically haaate green beans) are perfectly cooked; a little snap to them, a little sweetness, not so overdone that they taste like garbage. The muenster cheese is perfect, and I've been effectively convinced to get avacado spread on all sandwiches wherever it's available from now on. I gotta get it extra spicy, too. Now, take this with a grain of salt, because this IS coming from the girl who went through a bottle of habanero sauce in a week. I like to feel like I'm chewing on razor blades when I'm eating. I wanna CRY, man. The "extra spicy" sauce IS pretty spicy. It's not melt-your-face spicy (in my opinion, at least), but you'll be feeling some solid burn before you're done with the sandwich. The service is incredibly friendly, too. The first time I went, I blew right by the "order" counter (it's kinda confusing) and the woman was incredibly nice about teaching me how it's done. The cooks were even smiling while they were making the sandwiches! You gotta love a place like that, where people love making you your food as much as you love eating it. read more

Its taken me years of extensive research to perfect this sandwich for my liking, from which I now bequeath to you. BBQ chicken, extra hot, extra guac, throw in a baked sweet potato fry...and an Orangina. Normally (as anyone will tell you) I'm a beefy kinda guy, but here I find the beef a bit chewy & stringy and not nearly as good as the chicken. I'm not really a guac guy either per say, but the Chac guac really seems to pull it all together and soothe your taste buds after the 'extra hot' has taken effect. Also, tell them about the extra guac while they're making your sandwich, not at the cashier - as they will charge you extra for it and probably forget to give it to you. Enjoy! read more

Ok, I confess, I wasn't thrilled with Chacarero the first time I went. It was good, yes, but when SO many yelpers rave about one place, I expect to have the Best. Lunch. Ever. And I didn't, really. However, it was good enough to crave again and run to the ATM (they've stopped taking cards) instead of just going somewhere else. With some modifications to my order (beef instead of chicken, extra hot), it really elevated the chacarero to amazingness. A perfect combination of textures and flavors and actually pretty healthy! The price is right and the service is fantastic and quick if you're a late luncher like myself (always after 1:30pm). There's nothing more to say, is there? Just go! read more

Garbage. I don't get it. Horrible sandwiches. I've seen the lines - been here twice just to give them a second chance. Their signature sandwich has no flavor.
