Recently tried Ché for the first time and really liked it. The beer selection was great and, while I was a bit disappointed that they were serving from the brunch menu while I was there (I know how that sounds, but I was excited to try some empanadas), I was really happy with what I got. Despite not being hungover, I ordered the ¡Adios Resaca! (Goodbye Hangover), which was two beef empanadas over breakfast potatoes, chorizo goetta gravy, and topped with melted mozzarella (salsa on the side). It was pretty awesome. For beer, I opted for a Clown Shoes Space Cake, a double IPA. Service was pretty good, food was delicious, beer was great, and there is also outdoor seating. Most importantly, it's not on Vine Street and there's rarely a wait! I am more than looking forward to going back for another good beer and a smorgasboard of empanadas from the regular menu. read more

I ate here for the first time a couple weeks ago and oh my gosh, it was one of the best meals I've had in awhile. I had multiple empanadas, the queso, and a martini and everything was absolutely delicious! I went with 4 other people and they all loved their food as well. The staff was very friendly and our server even took a shot with us! (Not sure if she was allowed so I won't mention her name ) But it was a great meal and such a great experience! I ordered off of the Che website for a carryout order during the week. It was super easy and I got 10% off my first order for using their app on their site! I think I ordered 9-10 empanadas for $40 including tip. I recall you can order pizzas, soups, and empanadas to-go, but I don't remember seeing the meat of the day or salads. My order was ready when I came in to pick it up. My favorite ones were de carne, buffalo chicken, and queso y cebolla. It was kind of difficult to tell which was which in terms of fillings... there's something about how they wrap them - since I did carry out, I honestly couldn't tell, which was a problem because not all 10 were for me! I also thought everything was buffalo chicken (really I just kept eating the spicy pork belly and exclaiming "BUFFALO CHICKEN"). They could benefit from some sort of stamp to identify the different fillings maybe? The sauces were good for pairing but I think I could've used more. The empanadas themselves were great! Like I think I'd have to live in a sad, alternate universe to NOT enjoy little fried dough pockets of cheese and meats... 3 stars for the lack of options for carryout - a salad would've been nice... there was also some confusion with determining which of the empanadas were which. I've been wanting to try this place for a while and I finally got to go! The wait was an hour long so we found a spot at the bar, it was a little tight but we still enjoyed ourselves. Visited Che again this past Saturday night with 2 other couples who've never tried it. Got there at 6:30 and had a bit of a wait since there were already several big groups sat. Had drinks in the bar to pass the time. The fresh berry Caipirinha was delicious. The bar staff were friendly and helpful. We were sat in the lower level and similar to upstairs the vibe was fun and cozy without feeling crowded at our table. My husband and I ordered the shared the grilled romaine, grilled duet w/ steak fries and (2) de carne empanadas we ordered on our past visit and loved it. Phenomenal food, horrendous service. The empanada de carne is the most authentic empanada I have had in a long time. I dare say it came close to my grandmother's. Magnificent! They nailed it with the green olive and egg, thank you for that! All the empanadas were quite good to be honest. I suggest you try as many as possible. They are small and great for sharing. The food was so good I had a salad that I've been craving. I believe it had a blue cheese dressing and bacon. Unfortunately the service was TERRIBLE. I was stunned how long we went without food, drinks, and no one to check on our table. Every time it happened I assumed it wouldn't happen again and it continued the entire night even after the manager checked on us. It was clearly not just our server, there was something wrong with the entire operation. Not to mention our server spent half the night playing with her hair and combing through it with her fingers right at the food window. I didn't even care at that point! Well, even though it was our favorite place, we were denied service by the waitress on claims that our crew was drunk - "we can't provide you drinks yet, we suggest you to get some food first". When politely confronted and asked to point out who was drunk, they called the manager that tried to apologize very defensively with a bunch of non sense. Maybe because it's a bar/restaurant and we were having a good time (far from drunk or bothering anyone for this matter) chatting while walking to our patio table? Maybe judging because we are South Americans on a South American restaurant and felt a little bit closer to home? A more senior waiter, very politely, came to meet us outside and apologized for everything that happened and recommended us to reach out to this establishment's owner as he is also South American to provide feedback. Che is seriously amazing! I don't know how this place is not more busy. They have delicious empanadas with the best chimichurri for dipping! I always get the ham and cheese, but the pork belly, Jamaican jerk, buffalo chicken, and short rib are all good as well. Also, you need to make sure you try the queso fundido. Wow. They have good beer and great bartenders, plus on Saturdays Bulleit bourbon for $3. They also have a good brunch menu and a great back patio for when the weather is nice. read more

The empanadas were delicious! But a helpful hint... Maybe just order all of them. They are a tad smaller than I anticipated. I tried the buffalo chicken (spicy!), spinach (my fav), queso and ham, and onion. I could have devoured four more. The experience was fast paced. They've only been open for a few months and my friends and I (10 of us) barged in at 7pm on a Saturday night. We were unable to be seated at table (wait was about an hour and 45 mins) so we took over the bar. The drink list was nice. A great selection of wine and beer. I have been wanting to try Che since it opened, and we finally made it there for dinner Friday night. Good beer selection and a fun vibe. We sat at the bar for dinner and had relatively quick service, even on a busy night. Not a ton of vegetarian options, but I think that just comes with the nature of the cuisine. I had to explain to my husband multiple times that an "order" of empanadas is actually just one empanada (Bakersfield-style), but he still ordered just 2 empanadas to start and was surprised at the portion size. However, it gave us an excuse to order multiple courses and have a leisurely dinner. I'm not an empanada fan, but he enjoyed his buffalo chicken & spinach empanadas. I enjoyed his gorgonzola dipping sauce with the bread from my squash soup, which was delicious (order both!). I was originally a little iffy on ordering pizza at an Argentinean restaurant, but we split the caprese pizza and it was decent. Overall, not my absolute favorite type of food, but loved the atmosphere and we had a good date night. I would go back for drinks & heavy apps, but probably not dinner. read more

Such a great restaurant. I can here with two friends after a happy hour on a Friday and we were able to be seated within 10-15 minutes which was great. They have a great assortment of drinks, from beer to sangria. Their fries are amazing. I had some cheese dip which was to die for. And then the empenadas were equally as great. I've been here a couple of times. Its hit or miss for me. I've had some delicious empanadas and some just okay ones. The best I had was mushroom with truffle oil. I was told it would be a menu item, but when I returned to get these tasty nuggets they weren't on the menu and the server said the chef scratch them. Too bad because they were fantastic. I also had a brunch dish that was tasty but they dont have a clue how to make hollandaise sauce. I sent it back because it was broken. It looked like buttery egg yolks. Lunch was great today. Started with the Fundido it was very good, served with grilled pita wedges. Ordered the Spinach and Cheese and Ham and Cheese Empanadas for the entree. Both were great, but the Spinach was a clear winner. The cheese blend used for it is Mozzarella and Provolone which complemented the spinach perfectly. Service was prompt, friendly, and not pushy. I've never had empanadas before, so I had no idea about what to expect. I came with my co-workers for somebody's birthday and we all had a wonderful lunch. The empanadas are small, so it's encouraged that you order a few, which allows you to sample different kinds. I ordered two and an order of rice to share with a few of my fellow diners. I actually got two of the same kind, which were sriracha chicken. They were the perfect amount of spicy and savory. Our waitress was amazing and I feel really bad that I can't remember her name. She brought out a piece of cake for the birthday celebration and quickly realized that one piece would not be enough, so she brought out two more! I loved everything here. Cool vibe, good empanadas. We tried six kinds and none were bad, but my two favorites, by far, were the carne and the espinaca. Basic but delicious! My husband also quite liked the buffalo chicken, and I also quite liked the "breackfast." The pastry shell was crisp on the outside but still had a nice flaky/doughy texture once you bit in, and the chimichurri and pickled veggie topping that came with the empanadas were nice too. I want to come back and try some other stuff, particularly the lentil soup and the pizzas. As others have said, service could improve. It was friendly but a little spacey. For example, we were brought empanadas we didn't order, which eventually made it to the right table, but then they were still listed on our bill. Also, our waters never got refilled. Little things like that don't break an experience, but they don't impress either. In all this is a nice addition to OTR, especially being on Walnut, near 16-Bit for good company. I've been there twice and it feels like hanging out in a cool lodge or cabin somewhere far away from Cincinnati. Don't leave without checking out the downstairs and the patie,you will think you were at house party. I rarely like to have a big meal so this place is perfect to do a few small plates and share with friends. The empanadas are exquisite and so are the pizzas. Argentine/American fusion restaurant with a dim and relaxed vibe. The traditional dishes like milanesa, choripan, and classic empanadas are spot on. The satisfying Locro soup, rich with shaved cheese and sausage, is delicious and a great deal. There are also plenty of fusion items like buffalo chicken empanadas, queso, and flatbreads. Cocktails are okay -- hot amaretto coffee is a highlight -- but wines could be much better. Service was once sub-par at the bar. Good overall but a bit overpriced. Tried out Che last Friday. Went with a group of 10, yes I know that was probably not the best idea for a hip new OTR restaurant. Very interesting eclectic decor. Really dug the soccer games playing on the TVs and the interesting penguin mugs at the bar. Put our names in around 7, said the wait would be an hour so we went to the bar and took over a corner. The hostesses ended up never seating us, which was upsetting, but we ended up eating at the bar. I'm newly dairy free, so the menu was considerably harder to navigate as most dishes include cheeses. I tried the beef and egg empanada and the arugula salad sans parmesan. The empananda was AMAZING - perfect flaky and flavorful crust. The salad - said it had a lemon and olive oil dressing- literally was a pile of arugula and for $9 I was not happy about it. Many in our group ordered several empanadas and ended up getting the wrong orders sent out which the bartender blamed on the food servers- classy. We know you rung them in wrong, not the runner. Everyone ate whatever was given to them, and several ended up not getting their order at all, and not much was ever done about it by the bartender. I enjoyed the drinks and my empanadas, however they definitely need to step it up in the service department. read more
