I have an old Schlage E-series entrance lock on my front door whose thumbpiece had become stiff and would not return reliably after being pressed. I wanted to have the lock inspected and serviced before considering replacement. I hoped it would be practical to repair the existing mechanism. So I went on yelp to search for a locksmith with experience with Schlage E-Series locks and/or had access to compatible replacement or used parts. And that's when I came to CGL Locksmith and Cristian (the owner) who is the C in CGL. Cristian thanked me for contacting CGL and said he's experienced with Schlage E-series. He also said he would visit completely free of charge to check if my lock can be repaired. And if it could be repaired he would give me a estimate for me to approve, before starting any work. So we set up an appointment to come the next day. He said my lock might only require minor adjustment and oiling. And he would bring along the relevant parts of another old Schlage E-series lock that he happened to have, so that if my lock needed a part it might be present on the lock he was bringing over. The next day when he came he was as friendly and polite in person as he was the day before on the phone. He removed the front part of the Schlage handleset from my front door which he then took to work on outside near his truck, before returning, reattaching the front of the Schlage handleset before adjusting the entire Schlage handleset and the deadbolt above it. I felt he made noticeable improvements to both the Schlage handleset and the deadbolt. My Schlage E-series which is about 20 years old hasn't functioned this well in the last 3+ years. The Schlage E-series he brought along in case it had a part that was needed, was at least ten years older than mine. The thing about Schlage locks is they can last and last. But they don't last forever. But if when they do break you don't want to replace them, get someone who knows what they're doing to fix them. If you have an old lock that start acting its age, you may want to call Cristian at CGL Locksmith. He didn't charge to come out to give an estimate. His estimate was fair. We installed a new custom gate and needed more security flexibility than the included mechanical lock. After purchasing a new lock, we called several locksmiths.
