I recently tried the gobernador tacos and the ceviche tostada. The gobernador tacos had good flavor, but they were extremely soggy. The tortillas became so soaked that they completely fell apart, making it impossible to eat them as tacos. The ceviche tostada also had good flavor, with plenty of juice lemon, but the fish was a bit hard in texture and not as tender as I expected. Overall, the flavors were there, but the texture and preparation issues took away from the experience.

Craving seafood on a Sunday night, I found this little hole-in-the-wall near my house (I recently moved to the area). Since it was late and I hadn't heard of it before, I wasn't expecting much. They were about 20 minutes from closing, yet they were incredibly kind and still let us order -- which we really appreciated, we did have to order to go so keep that in mind . We decided to go all out and try almost the entire menu. The woman who I believe is the owner gave us great recommendations, and we ordered four tacos gobernador, a mojara, ceviche de pescado, a surf and turf burrito, and a cóctel de camarón. Everything was amazing -- especially the tacos gobernador. They were packed with so much flavor, and the rice they came with was sooo good. The cóctel de camarón had great flavor as well; we added extra salsa since we love spicy food, and that really took it to the next level. I didn't personally try the mojara since I'm not a big fan, but my mom absolutely loved it. The ceviche was good, though I think it could've used a little more time cooking in the lemon -- still very tasty overall. I would definitely recommend this spot and will for sure be coming back, especially to enjoy the ambience when dining in next time!

My friend and I stopped by to give it a try. The ceviche I ordered wasn't what I'm used to - the sauce mixed in was pretty tomato forward. The chips and salsa were very fresh and tasty. The drinks were huge!! We weren't expecting that so we ended up taking the rest to go. Overall I would go back here but wouldn't opt for the ceviche and instead maybe their tacos.

One of my absolute favorite seafood & taco spots in Ventura hands down. This spot is such a hidden gem. If you love fresh seafood like pulpo tostadas and shrimp coctels or cooked tacos like asada or fried fish this place is for you! I brought my mom in today for a girls day and we had a fabulous lunch. The menu here is impressive with so many options to choose from. You really can't go wrong with any of the choices to be honest. I'm guilty of just wanting to order one of everything because the food and pictures looked so good. We were in the mood for tacos and agua frescas so we settled on those. Their agua frescas are some of the best I've had anywhere! I've always loved their Jamaica but today I ordered their cucumber pineapple and that drink was phenomenal, super refreshing and delicious. You really don't need beer here as their house made drinks are spot on. My mom and I both loved and devoured our tacos. She went with the asada which was perfectly cooked and loaded with fresh onions and cilantro. I had the grilled shrimp tacos which were massive - loaded with jumbo shrimp and the grilled onions and jalapeños gave this dish a perfect kick. I'm always a sucker for a creamy sauce and theirs is tasty. My mom and I both agreed their side salad (with massive chunks of avocado) and rice were super tasty. Their taco plates are the way to go, you get so much food for a great value. 10/10. Everyone around us was ordering the shrimp and pulpo coctels and tostadas. Their seafood is clearly the fan favorite. I'm excited that on the weekends they now have pozole and menudo. I'll be coming back again for some of these soups. The restaurant itself is cozy, clean and inviting. I really like the vibes here and sitting for a casual lunch in was perfect. I was also impressed to see how many to go orders they had as well. Staff were hustling and the food was all well paced. Shoutout to Coco who took our order today and gave us great recommendations. She encouraged me to try the pineapple cucumber juice and I'm so glad she did. Staff here are super nice and friendly, always just great vibes. If you haven't stopped in yet you really must give them a try. Great local business and team, the food is delicious and prices are really reasonable for the amount of food and quality you get. I'll definitely be back soon and with some friends! :)

10/10 EXPERIENCE So glad I chose CEVIICHE for lunch today! Everything is FRESH, bold, and packed with flavor. The molcajete was next level--fresh-made chips, insanely good salsa, handmade tortillas, and perfectly cooked beans and rice. You can truly taste the quality in every bite. And don't get me started on the ice-cold aguas frescas... SO refreshing This spot is a must--coming back ASAP!

    Shrimp Tacos

Okay so it all started when my sister recommended we go to Ceviiche and try their shrimp tacos and let me say they were delicious! Omg it's so fresh and seasoned very well! Then I recommended my boyfriend try this place out as well and he fell in love with their fish ceviche! Next recommendation... my brother and let's just say he went in 3 times a week lmao! And now it's a family affair going on. We love this place. Especially the staff that work here are always kind and welcoming. We don't wait long to eat, they great us as we come in as we are looking for what to eat. I appreciate it and hope it gets the recognition it deserves. Vibe check: 10/10

Came across this place on our way to Santa Barbara. We were pleasantly impressed with the variety of food options. We came for the ceviche and seafood cocktail but also got a couple gobernador shrimp tacos which were so good! Packed with flavor and served with a chicharon dry chile. Highly recommend you try. The seafood cocktail had tuna, shrimp, fish octopus and was another dish full of flavor. The juice itself was delicious. Service was great too. We arrived right after opening so not much of a wait. The place itself was clean and decent little hole in the wall kinda place.

Absolutely delicious! The robust flavors in every dish were phenomenal! I went 1 day because my son wanted aguachiles and the food was so delicious I had to go back the next day and got other dishes and WOW!!!! Everything was amazing! The molcajete was pipin hot and the sauce inside was insanely good! I loved the green aguachiles but I think black is my favorite. And if I had to pick just 1 dish, this is hard, it would be the surf and turf. They put so much meat in the borrito and the flavor is just perfection! Jose really knows how to throw down in the kitchen and he was really kind. You can tell he loves what he does. I liked that is was a family's friendly spot to go and have some yummy food! I think I'll be back today again!

This place is delicious. Went in here for lunch on a weekday for to go and it took a little long but so worth it. Everything had a great taste. We also tried a fish and shrimp taco and that was delicious. Will be visiting again!

Horchata, tostada de camaron, aguachiles negros... and of course tons of extra handmade tostadas/chips!
    Alexis M.

One of the absolute best ceviches and aguachiles we've had in Ventura County! Hilda is so sweet - she provided us with amazing customer service and we felt very at home. She let us try the three salsas they make in-house and they are all fantastic. The best part was honestly the handmade tostadas and chips - they just can't be beat. Everything was fresh and delicious. We'll definitely be back. PS don't skip the horchata... you're welcome.

    fish taco plate

Came in on a Sunday afternoon and it was empty, we were the only ones there. Staff was friendly and we got our order quick. They even gave us chips and salsa while we waited and it was fresh and tasty. I ordered the beer battered fish taco plate which was $18.50. I was kind of disappointed because as good as they looked they lacked flavor. The only good thing about the taco was the freshly made tortilla with the melted cheese but the fish had no flavor and the sauce it had didn't have much flavor either. The rice it came with was pretty good but that's about it. If we do decide to come back maybe we'll try something else on the menu.

Shrimp and fish taco Gobernader style

I work close to this area and needed something new for lunch. A coworker recommended Ceviiche. I got a fish and a shrimp taco gobernador style to go. Total was $19 for 2 tacos. Thought it was a bit pricey. Got back to work and opened up the plate. Holy cow! They are humongous!!! Omg, amazingly delicious. Stuffed with shrimp!! Big pieces of fish too! After 1 taco, I was getting pretty full!! You also get this container of crispy chilis! Omg don't skip them, they're sooo good! And the tortillas are homemade! Ended up having dinner here with my husband the next day lol. Agua frescas are so refreshing! He loved it so much, we'll be here tomorrow to try something new! I also got some homemade tortillas to go. Staff was super friendly! Can't believe it took us this long to try it! A++

Food was soo good, came out with great presentation..

Food was soo good. I have never had a better meal. Presentation was perfect. Will be back tomorrow for lunch. Its a must try place.

For over 25 years, this spot has remained a "go to" in the community, and we love seeing these old school treasures continue to thrive. From the moment you walk in, you get those nostalgic, old-school vibes. Loved all of the decor and pictures of fisherman throughout the place. The service here was awesome. Super friendly and welcoming, and the gentleman at the register gave great recommendations. He knew the menu well and was able to help me out with some suggestions. Honestly, the menu is so extensive it was hard to choose, but here's what I went with: Fish & Chips (2 piece plate): 5/5. The batter was light yet perfectly crispy, not overly heavy, and the fish itself was fresh, flaky, and high quality. Paired with a solid tartar sauce, this is a must order dish. The French fries were classic and I loved their coleslaw. Grilled Thresher Shark Plate: 4.5/5. This one was a standout for me given how hard it is to find shark on menus nowadays. I actually grew up eating shark, so this felt super nostalgic. The staff highly recommended it, and I'm so glad I listened. The grilled shark was mild, tender, and full of flavor thanks to their delicious balsamic glaze marinade. If you've ever been curious about trying shark, this is the place to do it. I'll be back again for this soon. Overall, the food was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying and the best part? It doesn't break the bank. Prices were reasonable and portions were generous. Definitely check them out if you haven't already, a great old school restaurant in Oxnard.

We did arrive a little late, so we weren't able to dine in but based on looks it's a really quiet place where I'd be a nice date place., the guy working there was so nice and encouraged us to order to go -- which we gladly did. We ordered a little bit of everything: shrimp, clams, crab legs, and all the sides. The only thing they didn't have was eggs, which is a little sad because a seafood boil with eggs is just top tier. But let me tell you... the flavor made up for it completely. Everything was so rich, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The whole time we were eating we just kept saying how good it was and how much flavor everything had. It was a total hit! We got so much food and the price honestly wasn't bad at all. I can truly say this is wayyyyy better than Boiling Crab, no doubt. I already can't wait to come back this weekend for round two -- and this time I definitely want to eat inside to get the full experience. I told Dear Hubby that fish & chips at the harbor seemed like a great idea, and he agreed. Initially, I tried to get us a table upstairs at Brophy Brothers, overlooking the water. That was going to be about an hour's wait, so we retreated downstairs to Brophy's fast casual option - On The Alley. Essentially, it's the same fish & chips recipe, so all good there. The line was short and moved pretty quickly. While DH finished up ordering, I went out to the indoor-outdoor room to scout a table. I wasn't able to get one against the window, but we were still able to have a water view, just a bit further away. DH was hungry, so he ordered a burger, as well as the fish & chips. He shared a small portion of said burger, and it was really good. At a Brophy's establishment, I think of seafood, but thumbs up on that burger! The portion of fries they provided were extra generous. We missed having Adored Granddaughter with us, as she would have help demolish those fries! We brought some home to revive in the air fryer. I only had water, as they don't really have any beverage options that work with my restrictive dietary preferences. (i.e., no caffeine, and low- or no-sugar). The fish & chips hit the spot, although the fish was somewhat oilier than usual. DH got a cup of their delicious clam chowder, which was served with their delicious sourdough bread. That I got to have some of, and happier for it. Sunday afternoon at the harbor made for a great spot to people-watch. There were lots of folks who seemed like they had come from points east to get a break from the heat, just like us. We all tend to have a look that doesn't portray "Ventura local". Lots of young families, which was nice to see. Made us miss our granddaughter, for sure.
