I went yesterday with a couple of co-workers for lunch. We agreed that it was one of the best places we've been in a while. It was the last chance to go eat anywhere before restaurants were shut down due to the corona virus, so we were lucky enough to enjoy the outdoor eating area located near La Cocina. I got the tagliatelle with cacio + pepe for lunch, it was creamy and divine with a cheesy, peppery goodness, and came with a small piece of focaccia bread, I loved the little to-go container that it came in. I got some bucatini and bolognese to take home for dinner as well. Fresh daily made pasta, sauce, there is also coffee, and pastries! They practiced social responsibility by only allowing 4 people in the store at a time, and bringing your food outside to you. Pickup only with a small menu of fresh made pastas, coffee, pastries, and gelato you can't go wrong. Ceres opened my eyes to a whole world of fresh, delicious pasta! I love that you can either get pasta and sauce bundles to go, or you can get a quick lunch fix with their pasta dishes! The pasta bundles are a great deal and they are so fresh. I don't think I've had pasta as fresh as Ceres! The sauces are simple but done to perfection. It's a great base for any pasta dish you make at home. They also have some super interesting rotating gelato flavors! Honestly there hasn't been anything that I didn't enjoy from Ceres. Ceres is my favorite lunch spot in downtown Tucson. It's located right across the street from La Cocina in the Presidio. I love what the owner has done with the space--it's beautifully decorated, full of light, and you can watch pasta being cooked behind the counter. The menu is wonderfully simple. I've tried the tagliatelle with pesto, tagliolini with bolognese, special spinach tagliatelle with cacio e pepe, and special ricotta ravioli with Parmesan butter sauce. Each has been absolutely delicious, busting with flavor, and cooked perfectly al dente. Bring your own container for $.25 off. Plan to eat outside around the corner of La Cocina or at home/the office, as seating here is limited. Follow them on Instagram to see what specials they're offering that day--they always look amazing. Next time I stop in, I'm planning to try one of the focaccia sandwiches in the pastry case, which come with fresh veggies, pesto, and mozzarella. Ceres is an adorable little hole-in-the-wall across the street from La Cocina that serves beverages, bread, pastries, and fresh pasta. An important thing to note is that there is only one seat (a barstool) inside the cafe. Ceres is essentially a take-out only place. However, you can sit in the little picnic area by the stained glass outside of La Cocina to enjoy your pasta lunch. Fresh pasta is only served 11am until sold out. You can order the type of fresh pasta you want to eat with one of their sauces, or you can take the uncooked fresh pasta to go to cook yourself at home. Bucatini (like spaghetti with a hole in the middle of the noodle) is the vegan option, while the tagliatelle (wide and flat) and tagliolini (thin and flat) are egg noodles. We arrived around 11:30, and the cafe filled up quickly. Mr. Picky Toddler Who Doesn't Like Sauce On Anything chose plain (no EVOO or butter or anything) bucatini, while my foodie bestie and I decided to split the special (tagliatelle with beet, arugula, cheese, and some other ingredients - lemon, maybe?) and tagliolini with the cacio e pepe sauce. We also decided to try the mocha drink (made with Monsoon Chocolate) and the matcha latte. All of the pastas were cooked perfectly al dente and were delicious, including the plain bucatini. Even the toddler tried and repeatedly requested more of both the special and cacio e pepe pasta (eating pasta with sauce instead of plain for the first time ever!) Everyone's favorite pasta was the tagliolini with cacio e pepe - simple, but with great flavor. The mocha drink was subtly sweetened by the dark Monsoon chocolate, and it was a joy to drink. The matcha latte had no added sweetener, but it had good matcha flavor and was smooth and creamy. We polished off all of the pasta and drinks happily while enjoying the beautiful fall weather at the picnic tables. Given how tasty everything was, we made a pledge to come back and try all of the different pasta sauces over the next few weeks. TL;DR: Delicious fresh pasta (only for lunch 11a until sold out) and cafe drinks; little hole in the wall across street from La Cocina; no indoor seating (basically take out only; some outdoor picnic tables by La Cocina). My wife and I tried Ceres for the first time and I thought the food turned out great! We both ended up getting the Tomato basil with tagliolini (thin egg noodles) to go. The price was reasonable and considering how fresh everything was, I cannot complain. The staff was super helpful in assisting us with recommendations and popular choices. Fortunately for us we showed up just a few minutes before opening and was told we can still order. The hours are 11am-2pm so be there before it closes! The pasta itself included a small amount of 'activated charcoal' pasta which did not affect the taste in any way- it was simply a complimentary piece. The cacio e pepe (cheese and pepper) tied in really well with the tagliolini, the pasta was al dente and the sauce flavor was strong and surprisingly not dry. My sister had the bucatini pasta with the cacio e pepe, the flavor was similar. This place had the best fresh pasta in town, bar none. The ladies who operate this spot are kind, engaging, and damn good at baking, pasta-ing, and drink making. To be fair, I have never been during their breakfast hours to sample any of the baked goods they offer, but they also look mouth-wateringly delicious. If you go during lunch time, be sure to check their hours since they have limited availability, but their meals are the perfect take out whether you're at work, on a break from school, or if you just finished climbing A Mountain. The pasta selections are simple, but perfected, same with the sauce options. They do also offer a couple of sandwiches (check out the Bolo Joe!!) and a weekly, rotating special. Ceres often collaborates with local companies to offer the freshest meats, veggies, or fruits in their weekly offerings. When I heard there was a new pasta place in town, I had to check it out. Tucked away north of the hustle and bustle, you'll find a beautiful doorway that leads you into a dream land of pasta. There's only room for 2 inside the storefront, or you can walk around the block to patio seating. Whether you eat the pasta in the area or pick up some to go or make your own later, you must try Ceres pasta. The staff is enthusiastic and passionate about what they do. I tried out this weeks Campanelle topped with pesto, feta, kalmata olives, cherry tomatoes, arugula, and the option to add ground lamb (which I did). It tasted so fresh and light, making it perfect for a lunch meal. After that, I tried out their flavor of the week gelato which was carrot cake. Let me tell you, this gelato was hands down possibly the best gelato I've ever had to date! So perfect as far as sweetness, a little bit of walnuts for crunch, and overall amazing flavor. Delicious and great location! It's a walk up window on a pedestrian-only (no cars!!!) section of an adorable little street downtown. They have pastas, sandwiches, pastries, gelato, and coffees. To order pasta, you choose one of the four sauces and one of the four noodles. It comes with a little piece of focaccia bread, but I suggest also getting a big square for additional deliciousness. I was able to sit at one of the picnic tables in the street to enjoy my lunch, and I followed it up with a gelato. Oh my, this was really a treat! The first time I visited Ceres they blew my socks off. I still dream about that pasta dish. Unfortunately, I've been back a multitude of times, and keep coming back whenever I come to town, in hopes of getting something that comes close. It's been good, just not great. Last visit the extra focaccia was dried out (but the slice that comes with the pasta was not). Frustrating as you pay more for the extra bread, and it was sub par quality compared to the other piece. This place is so cute! To order your food you walk up to a small window to place the order and then wait to pick it up. There are NO tables so it is takeout only. Directly across from the Ceres window is a small courtyard with some shops that you can kill time in while waiting for your food and one of the small shops sells dried Ceres pasta. The pasta and sauces are all homemade, they have a variety to choose from and they offer a weekly special which does sell out, so grab your order early in the day. They also offer coffee drinks, gelato and pastries that rotate. My personal favorite is the Bucatini pasta with the cacio pepe sauce. Currently they are not open for normal business hours but you can order from their website on Thursdays for Saturday morning pickup or head over to the Rialto Farmers Market on Sunday mornings for cook at home kits. read more

I was excited to see Ceres open, and even more excited to find one of my favorite dishes on the small (but well-curated) menu! So when my mom read an article in the newspaper about Ceres, I kept plotting when I could get there! I started following Ceres on Instagram and dreaming of my pasta lunch to come! Today that dream of getting downtown and having fresh pasta with sauce came true! This place is definitely a fantastic addition to downtown Tucson! My husband and I enjoyed two different types of pasta with different sauces. We selected our sauces first... Bolognese and Cacio e pepe and then asked for help with selecting noodles that would best compliment our sauces. It's not the cheapest lunch dish you're going to find, but if you want real and hearty Italian, this has to be your joint. I can promise you won't do any better in Tucson. This was a pasta dish that satisfied for longer than a couple hours. There's a reason people say our store-bought pasta sucks. It does. This is clearly the way pasta should be enjoyed.
