Roma Imports has been on my radar for years, but I never made the time to visit. I finally had the chance when I got to pick the catering company for my team's dinner and I'm glad I did. The food was fantastic. It's definitely a place you need to look for. The storefront is modest and tucked into a mixed-use part of town, surrounded by a few industrial buildings, so it's easy to miss. They accommodated my short-notice catering order without any issues. The food was hot, ready within minutes of my arrival, and the counter staff double-checked everything with me and even helped load the order into my trunk. Everything was packaged really well, so nothing spilled during the drive. My team loved the dinner, and I'll be returning soon to try the food in person. read more

This is my wife's (*she's Italian, by the way) favorite place to pick up stuff for when we host home gatherings. The feast of the seven fishes is our yearly tradition during the holidays, and when it rolls around, Angie (I'm not making that up, that is her real name--I told you she was Italian) will grab stuff from Roma by the armful. I am of the opinion that the prepared foods from here can range from the, "Mama Mia!" (really really tasty) to the, "Eh, Cosi cosi" (you know, it passes) range. I'm a people-person and love to observe the patrons. Many of the customers appear to be of Italian descent and, like my bettah half seem to really-enjoy the traditional and authentic staples of, Il Bel Paese (The beautiful country). Food from many different regions of Italy are available. The decor is kinda fun. In my mind, when I think of what an Italian trattoria should look like, this place comes to mind... it's got the classic red and white checkered table clothes, maps and landscapes of Italy adorning the walls, and an energy of a place that is well cared for. A religious icon or two will also dot the interior landscape. The aroma of slowly simmering tomato gravy, cut garlic, roasted meats, chopped onions, and olive oil fills the air. It's an experience. Sometimes life imitates art, and hand to gawd, on my mutha's life... the last times I went, der was deeze tree guys sitt'n in dah corner. I swears, dey cou'da been cast members from the Sopranos. Ayhhyyee! Was'amatta, youse? The staff is generally warm and enthusiastic about their offerings. They generally have been super helpful, and if it's not too busy, are more than happy to make suggestions for new items or how best to prepare the items we have purchased. When we have visited, 90% of the time, the place was crack'n (meaning: super busy and full of life!). Sometimes, as we drive away and I take a peek at the receipt, I will exclaim, "Davvero! È così caro!" Loosely translated that means, "Really! That's so expensive!" My wife, who only knows a few words of Italian, has no idea that I was pooping my pantaloni over the cost... but, bless her heart, she seems to think the food here is worth every penny. Generally, I agree. So next time you go, remember to leave the gun, but take the cannoli. Mangiare! read more

Update: I made the eggplant Parm last night and it failed the taste test. The eggplant was chewy and the end cuts of the plant were included, that' would be discarded in Prep. The sauce was great. We ll finish it and stick with Lasagna next time. I turned the baguette into garlic bread. Love this Store. read more

Finally got to try t to try the spot which has been on my list for quite a long time. Walking in you're able to see that they have some deli items for sale and a long refrigerator, as well as a display case. You can make your order then find your way to the back where they have some seating. My husband ordered the meatball sandwich, which was just okay, but could've used a little bit more pizazz.. can't put my finger I it, it was just missing something. I ordered the Matt's special which was much better. I also ordered some of the stuffed mushrooms, but unfortunately did not like any of them. They were very different than the ones I'm used to. I did like that. They warmed them up and then brought them to us though. The standout quality about this restaurant was definitely the customer service. The employees are also warm and friendly. Can't believe it's been 6 years since my last review of this place. Still serving up the great deli options, groceries and fresh and frozen Italian meals and desserts. Only reason I changed the stars to 4/5 was because the cold sandwich I got most recently was not as great as their meatball sub. I got the Matt's Special and my husband got the Ultimate Roma. The French bread was a little tougher than I like and we both wish there was a little more meat and lettuce in the sandwiches. I do like that you can opt for either hot or mild peppers and the portion is large that you can either share between two people or bring some home for leftovers. It was really nice that they brought our sandwiches to us since we opted to sit in the back to eat. After that, it's bus your own table and grab free water from the dispenser as you need. I'm glad I tried a different sandwich but I think I'll stick with my go-to-meatball sub next time! read more

This place is really good but depending on time of day be prepared for a wait. These fine folks provide a real hand made from scratch order. The take and make stuff is also delicious and we love to go here to find something new to experience at home when it's jammed packed. My favorite though are the goat cheese apricot medallions and cannolis. I love sitting here and eating when it's not jammed packed it's a nice relaxing place however when it's busy I prefer to go out and take something home since the press and nose can be a lot for me. But dine in or out is a place to go and experience taste of Italy. read more

After seeing a Facebook post reminding me that I haven't been to Roma Imports for many many years, since before my children were born I decided I needed to go back. A delightful old world market with four parking spaces located in the heart of the industrial district, this gem prides themselves in bringing the tastes of Italy to the desert. They have many many freezers filled with such items as beef lasagna, chicken fettuccine Alfredo, gnocchi pastas, sauces, home made Italian sausages, the list goes on and on. In the back a smattering of six top tables to sit while you enjoy authentic homemade Italian food. This day my son and I enjoyed some of the finest beef lasagna this town has ever had. Order lunch, open a tab because before you leave you will surely be doing a little shopping. With many imported items in stock that are not on any grocery store shelves you would be doing yourself a favor in taking home good clean imports. I will not wait so long to go back. Wonderful people, great selections, the lasagna half-tray was very good but unless I misread the instructions, which is probable, it was a little soupy at dinner time and great the next day-so I suggest pre-cooking it, then reheating next day to get nice solid lasagna..recipe and taste were quite good..Restaurant looks cute and the frozen foods looked great! Great selections and the dry pastas from Italy for home cooking are top-notch and authentic...Definitely worth a few tries/trips to figure out your own niche of buying versus ordering but especially great if you have a party later in the week and running out of time/hands..frozen garlic bread was great priced and a no brainer too..Yum! read more

Had the Italian dip and the pastrami Cool Italian deli, checks all the boxes and does it well. Their frozen section is formidable, has all the pasta dishes, pasta, pizza, sauces and more. The sandwiches were excellent. Great purportions, the bread was crispy on the outside and chewy inside, and wasn't overly dense or filling. I could identify the meats and veggies by taste and texture, and it wasn't too salty. Service was fast. We'll be back!! read more

I love stopping by here for lunch when I am in town! They have a great selection of hot and cold heroes and pasta offerings. I opted to the eggplant parm hero which was not only delicious but a great deal at $10! They offer a wide selection of take and bake items as well as imported Italian groceries such as pastas, sauces, flour, chocolate and more all at very reasonable prices considering how hard to find these items are. The housemade cannoli and tiramisu are also a must try! Service is quick and friendly and there is plenty of seating in a laid back no frills deli style restaurant. Highly reccomend! read more

Closest thing to South Philly we can find in Tucson. The hoagies are large and shareable with tasty Italian ingredients. The hoagie rolls are slightly crisper than those make with Schuylkill water (IYKYK), but I'm just describing not complaining. You can eat in or take out. Lots of deli choices for takeaway and even more frozen options. Since they don't have Tastykakes, I got a chocolate chip cookie instead; it was more like a scone. The store is on the opposite side of town from where I live, so it's a special treat for a hoagie when I go there. read more

What an amazing hole in the wall restaurant and food store for everything Italian. Everyone who works there is so friendly and helpful. We always shop here for their fresh horseradish. It's hotter than hot and oh so delicious!! While we were there we decided to have ravioli for lunch. Yum yum!!! Then, of course you need to have some cannoli for dessert so you go to the freezer and grab some while waiting for your lunch. By the time you finish eating, the decadent cannoli is ready to eat. You go to the cashier to check out and it feels like you are at a little cafe in Italy. It's somewhat hard to find but oh so worth it!!! read more

If I could give this place ten stars, I totally would! I had planned on going there to check out the market area, but ended up ordering lunch (the Buratta Prosciutto sandwich). I was so impressed with the service (Annie helped me, btw!) and the sandwich was so good that I decided to bring home one of their ready made lasagnas. This little place is a gem and completely unassuming. We got the Matt's Special, meatball sub, cheesecake and canoli. Everything was amazing and reminiscent of Italian deli's in NY. The cold cuts were fleciius and the meatballs were amazing. The slice of cheesecake was on the higher side ($9.99 iirc). The canoli was light and fluffy. This is not an Italian store like it was years ago by any means. The skinny spiral sausage used to be awesome, similar to what we used to get in New York. The last few times that we bought it from Roma's it tasted terrible - we threw in out. We will never buy it there again. I've been buying the "Ultimate Roma" hero, (sub, hoagie, whatever) for over 20 years. The sandwich has way less than half the meat that it used to have. Now, it's like eating a loaf of bread with Balsamic vinegar on it. For years it was $8.99, now, it's $11.99 for far less meat but with increased price. The Butter cookies are $18.99 a pound. Are they insane? For butter cookies? I'm Italian, this place has gone down hill big time. One star too many. read more

The food is amazing, as always, which is why I've continued to support and recommend this place. However, during my visit on 12/23, I had a disappointing experience with customer service. An older woman dressed as Santa was taking orders. I greeted her and placed my order, but she was dismissive, did not return my greeting, did not wish me a Merry Christmas, and did not say thank you after I tipped. While waiting for my sandwich, I noticed she was very friendly with other customers--greeting them warmly and wishing them a Merry Christmas. I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable, as I was the only brown person in the restaurant at the time and was treated differently. I've promoted and supported Roma many times without expecting anything in return, but being treated this way was disrespectful and hurtful. I hope management addresses this, because great food should be matched with respectful and equal customer service. I'm unsure if I'll return, as I don't want to support a business where customers feel singled out or unwelcome. read more

Amazing selection of antipasti, imported products, and food. I originally came in for the Italian beef dip, but they did not have it on special. I got the Stallion sandwich which I found dry, so I used the oil from the antipasti to spruce it up. The giardiniera on the sandwich was amazing. So were the stuffed hot pepper and pepper shooters from the antipasti area. I'll will for sure be back to get stuff from the freezer section which had different stuffed pastries, pastas, lasagnas, pies, even a curry. You can also get frozen desserts here. Definitely a hole in the wall, but it's a hidden gem in Tucson. The turkey havarti sandwich was 1) way bigger than I thought it would be and 2) delicious! When I ordered just a sandwich I thought I may need a side so I got a cup of roasted red pepper soup which was also huge! I took half the sandwich and almost all of the soup home for another meal. Friendly service and they did a great job cleaning tables which is great since space is limited. My first time here did not disappoint. When you walk in you're greeted by a counter to your right, freezers to the left, and then in the back they have some tables to eat. It's a pretty cool place. Freezers are stocked with tons of stuff. Sauces, meats, soups, curries, pasta and probably more that I'm forgetting. Could definitely be worth going back and trying some of those. Onto my sandwich. I ordered and took probably 10 minutes for it to come out at most so not bad. I got the Matt's special. It was good and very filling. Bread was tasty. All the meats and cheese tasted great and seemed fresh. Hot peppers were definitely the way to go on this one for me. I know I'm late to the party but can't wait to try some others! read more

I got the meatball sub. Some of the best meatballs I've ever had! Presentation was very sloppy. The marinara sauce was really good also. We were looking at the tiramisu which only comes frozen and the worker offered to put it in the back where it was a little warmer so it would thaw out. It was delicious! I love the market inside. What happened? Roma Imports used to be good. Bought their lasagne, terrible! I tasted terrible, was mushy and I don't think it's real mozzarella cheese on top. Also bought a piece of chocolate cake. During my 3rd pregnancy I learned I absolutely love burrata cheese... and that's also when I learned so does everyone else. Because it is always sold out at my 3 nearest grocery stores. I found Roma imports on yelp and decided to make the 25 minute drive there from my house. It's tucked away in an industrial part of Tucson (I'm not from here so forgive me for not knowing the proper neighborhood name). It's very small with only 3-4 parking spots out front but tons of street parking. I wanted to try almost everything inside but I only ended up leaving with their biggest tub of burrata ($23.99) and the ultimate Roma sandwich which was DELICIOUS. Best sub sandwich I've had in Tucson. I plan on returning to go down their sandwich menu and try them all. read more

How often have you had a pizza emergency? You know, you're hungry but way too lazy to go out and get pizza but you really want good pizza and you're getting cranky. You settle for white bread with a dollop of tomato sauce from a jar and a leftover slice of cheese. Evening ruined. Roma Imports is a magical place. A long wall is lined with freezers that are filled with so many Italian specialties -- even a few Indian entrees, too -- that not taking one of each is the biggest challenge. I filled a basket until it overflowed. I added some prepared items, too, then paid and sped home. I threw the frozen margherita pizza into the oven and counted down the minutes. The result? It's better than anything from a supermarket freezer and better than the average pizza joint. Stock your home freezer and you'll never have a pizza emergency again. Roma Imports may be my favorite Tucson discovery since I moved here! read more

Bad food. Bad service. Hideous atmosphere. Walked in, smiled and said "Hello! How are you?" which I was returned with a frowning lady who stared at me and didn't say a word. The people there tried to make me feel dumb for asking a basic question about what an item was. I'm always polite to service workers, so I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it was just an unwelcoming, cold environment. I understand working food service is difficult, with plenty of rude customers and Karens. But it's not hard to at least pretend to be nice. Especially if I'm treating them with nothing but respect. I'd be able to forgive them if it wasn't Overpriced, sub-par food. Feels like a cafeteria. Disappointed because it seemed like it would a great spot, but everything was what I can only describe as mediocre at best. Everything was stale and tasted old. My mother-in-law makes much better lasagna. I'm sure anybody else's mom makes it better too! I'd rather just get a frozen take-home lasagna tray from Safeway; tastes as good if not better...for a fraction of the price. Bummed out because I love supporting small business, but the whole experience was unpleasant. Maybe they were just having a bad day due to poor management, but Overall, just feels fake and you can tell it's unauthentic "Italian" food. The sandwiches there were decent, but it's just pseudo-Italian cuisine. Everything else was mid at best. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Save money and get the ingredients from your local grocery store and make whatever it is you want yourself. It will taste as good if not better. Roma imports is truly something special. A small building tucked away in a quiet street, if you aren't looking for it you are unlikely to find it. It is one of those places that feels like a best kept secret of Tucson locals. Romas serves 3 purposes. A deli, a restaurant, and as an Italian market. Generally I tend to criticize places that try and do too much and as a result end up with an identity complex. But Roma does all 3 well. As a market they have imported goods and dry pastas as well as a ton of prepared meals and Italian foods to purchase for taking home. The deli has fresh made foods, meats and cheeses, as well as some sides. The restaurant has a small, but satisfying menu. The prices are a touch high but not unreasonable, and the food is top notch. The service is friendly and quick as well. You order at the counter but they bring the food out to you at a seating section in the rear of the store. TL:DR - a real hidden gem, good food, take home options, clean, with friendly service. Maybe a tad expensive but worth it! read more
