I am writing this review to warn others about this despicable, corrupt utility company. I do not expect to get anywhere with Century Link because they absolutely do not care about their customers and do not strive to provide good service. I have had Century Link for over 7 years. I am so done with them. The customer service and internet service definitely got worse over the last 3 years. The people who work for them are very bad people with no morals, since it's obvious that their job is lying to and scamming customers and extorting money that does not belong to Century Link. I have been blatantly lied to so many times. Their employees have jobs that require lying to customers (who are the reason that they have a job and get paid in the first place), hanging up on them when it's getting close to closing time, and repeatedly transferring customers to someone else. How do they sleep at night? Oh, that's right, they have no moral compass. Every time that I have had to call them, I have been on the phone from one to one and a half hours each time. They reel you in with their "special" rates. But, that only lasts for one year, then you need to "renegotiate" your rate with them, every single year. If you forget, you will be charged the full price and it will take more than one month to get the cheaper rate in place, if you're lucky. I am currently stuck in a one year verbal contract. If I cancel, I will owe them money. They only care about the money, nothing else. Let me tell you about the last straw. I was having ongoing internet connection problems, and they decided that I needed a new modem, after the second tech was out to my home. It was supposed to be a different, upgraded model. They sent me the identical modem, which didn't work any better. The tech who was out had confirmed that my internet service had been going up and down all day long, every day for a long time. He showed me on his computer. I remembered that I had to renegotiate my rate with them for internet only service. I was going to get an upgrade for cheaper (different internet service from the previous), since I had complained about all of the problems I had in the past. The lady told me that she would ship out the proper modem for my faster service. She said to mail back the old modem and when I got the new, upgraded one, to mail the other one back. I shipped both back to Century Link last December 2016. I had tracking through the UPS Store and I saw that they both had been received and signed for by employees on their dock. I even called customer service to confirm that they had received both. They said yes. That was the first week of January 2017. By this time, I was starting my renegotiated special rate. The amount was taken out correctly 2 months in a row. Then, I noticed a pending charge in my checking account from Century Link in March. They were trying to take out over $130, not $23.94, which was the regular rate. The other money in my bank account was for my car insurance and that was due to come out that day or the next. I spent all day on the phone with my bank and Century Link. Those idiots charged me $107 for "unreturned equipment"!! I had returned it 3 months earlier! When I called, they wanted ME to prove to them that both modems were returned!!! A supervisor at Century Link was supposed to put a rush on a credit back to my account that same day. They said to call my bank in a hour to confirm. It was never put through. I had to call back 2 more times. My bank put a stop payment on it after I told them what was going on. Those liars at Century Link never put a credit back to my bank account. They just put it on my internet account as a credit balance. Thank God for the stop payment because I didn't have any more money to pay my car insurance with and it would have gotten cancelled. Then, Century Link took off my automatic payment and charged me for the payment not being made. They also charged me the higher rate since my automatic payment wasn't in effect anymore. I had to call them again and told them to fix it and credit me so I just needed to pay $23.94. I said that none of this was my fault, it was all theirs. I was told that the credits were applied and to just pay for the last payment and $23.94 for the current payment. I had to set up automatic payments again, but they are still trying to charge me more money from the past month. Apparently, that guy didn't do it right!! Now, I have to call them again tomorrow!! This is so not worth any discount. Please, if you have the option, go to Cox, even though they cost more (I'm sure that's because they know that they will be getting Century Link customers who have had enough.) I know people who have Cox and they do not have to go through what Century Link customers do. I'm stuck with these *$%&#@ till December. There must be state agency that I can file a complaint with. Nobody should have to go through this. read more
