Giving this place 2 stars because the bouncer at the front was nice but besides that our experience was terrible. We went on a Friday night to grab a drink, we wanted to sit at a table as the bar area was extremely crowded due to a band. There were tons of people so you could barely get to the bar to order a drink. We asked the hostess if we could sit at a table as it was nearly impossible to even make it to the bar as there was a crowd of older drunk women dancing in the main area. She refused to accommodate which was a shame as this was our first time visiting this establishment. Until this place can gain some customer service skills, I will NOT be spending money here. This place is great! The owners built a lovely outdoor area that mimics the interior of the restaurant. The ambiance offers private, shaded dining with music & tv entertainment. They have spread out tables that comply with social distancing and the staff all wear masks. Tables are sanitized after every guest, and they offer contactless delivery during dinner hours as well as all-day pick up options! 5/5 stars!! read more

This was my first visit to Celtic Corner. It was a Tuesday at 12:30pm, prior to a planned outing at Hawthorne Theater next door. I took a seat at the bar and wondered if the place was opened even after seeing several customers. An employee showed up 5 minutes later and apologized for getting stuck doing paperwork in the basement. I ordered the Goffle Farms Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich. I didn't expect it to come with steak fries so I was very happy when I saw it. I enjoyed my meal while watching Wimbledon tennis and the Dr. Oz show and listening to mainly dance music from different decades with a Foo Fighters song thrown in. My meal was perfect. It stayed packed together and had great flavor at a good size. I questioned myself on the quality of the chicken but then realized it was normal bacon texture that I was currently chewing so everything's ok. I kind of can't wait for the next movie. read more

After having the best happy hour wings around, I have very mixed feelings about our experience here... we walked in just before 5pm on a Friday, the posted happy hour is 3-7pm at the bar. The restaurant has a dining room side and a bar side which has stools at the actual bar and bar tables. There were not two consecutive seats at the bar so we sat at a bar table. On the table is the happy hour food and drink menu. We drank and ate for two hours and just before 7pm asked the waiter if there was any other thing he would recommend from the happy hour menu. It wasn't until then that he said, well I would but you are not at the bar so you don't get the happy hour pricing. You serve us off that menu for two hours and NOW you tell us?$80 for 3 beers a piece and a shared plate of wings during happy hour? Poor form Celtic Corner, poor form. read more

I've held off writing this review since they opened as I wanted to give them a chance to iron out the kinks. I was so so so hoping this could be a regular spot for us as it's open late and very close to my partners work. Perfect thing to grab on the way home for dinner. Unfortunately, that will not be happening. Every time we have placed a Togo order it's taken 50min-1 hour to receive our food. The meatballs were very lackluster and greasy. The curry chicken sauce was good but the chicken was cooked to absolute death. Inedible, like trying to eat a shoe. So so so over cooked. The guineas stew is very good when all the sauce doesn't leak out of the paper thin box but very little veg. Mozzarella sticks come without marinara? The burger did not come to temp when I ordered (ordered med well) and came rare and thus I couldn't eat it. The pan roasted chicken was actually juicy but the gravy had so much salt in it I had to scrap it away. And I am a love salt lover lol the veggies were GROSS boiled to death but the broccoli bottoms were too tough to chew. The worst yet though was the Rueben sandwich which we didn't even order. We ordered a Rueben quesadilla... well we got stale bread with RUBBERY corned beef. I've never experienced anything like that before ever. Tied for worst is the bread pudding, tasted like it went bad, made with bad milk or maybe even nutmeg that went bad. Ice cream was that fake ice cream that is like gooey no matter how cold it gets. Neither one of us could believe anything served for dessert could be that bad. Whatever you do, do not order this. Horrible. I have had better airline food. So unfortunately with the time it takes for an order and the very lackluster food received we are done. I am very seriously shocked this is a chef backed establishment. Shocked!! Working 12+ hour days to have this chaos for dinner. Never ever again. The area needs this but unfortunately CC fails big time in our eyes. Never returning. read more

Love Celtic Corner. I had such a great experience Saturday night after going to the HHS Band Fish and Chips dinner my son and I decided to stop in to have a drink. The bar was not too packed since we got there around 6 and we both ordered drinks. Bartenders were nice and asked if we needed menu's. I have also been there other nights and had food. The Chili Mac was very delicious. My son and I also had their pretzels and Quesadilla's and both were excellent. Our new favorite place to pop in and unwind. read more

Living in the area and decided to check this place out. Walked in with a friend and was greeted by a hostess...they sat us down in the dinning area and we sat there for 15min without anyone coming to us...the place was EMPTY!!! After finally asking for our server, she was very nice, but the food took at least 25min to come out. Ordered a drink and it was all soda...no whiskey. Small menu, expensive price, small dishes.....needless to say between the service and the food this place is on my not going back list...just honest. read more

I've been here twice now: once a few days after their opening, the other last night (side note, they handed out candy to all the Trick-Or-Treaters who came in, which I thought was very nice of them). The first time I ate here, I had the buffalo chicken wings and the sliced steak. Both were fabulous - the wings were juicy and cooked perfectly, and the steak was lean and delicious. I enjoyed both items so much, that I ordered them again last night. But this time, not such a big hit. They must have changed something up, and not for the better. The wings were so fatty, I couldn't even stand to try to pick at them anymore - didn't even attempt to eat half of them. And the steak, while very flavorful, was a different cut than the first time I had it - the first time it was sliced thin, had a tenderloin appearance to it, and it was very lean. This time, it seemed to be a rib-eye and was cut thicker and was much too fatty for my liking. I hope they are still on the learning curve here, and will make improvements on these items. I have to say, the decor is wonderful, the servers are attentive and friendly, the house wine is served ice cold (the coldest I've ever had, and I loved it), and the French onion soup is one of the best I have ever had! I will give them another shot, and I hope I will enjoy the food that time - if not, I don't think I'll be back, which would be a shame because I really want to love this place! read more

Went here on a Friday night. My son has food allergies and I must say the service was awesome. Daniela our waitress was fantastic and chef Kiko came out from the kitchen to make my son a special calamari dish that was delicious. As a parent of a kid with allergies this means the world. Last night was my third time at Celtic Corner. Love it! Looks like it was dropped right out of Ireland onto a corner in Hawthorne, NJ. The people there are friendly, the bartenders are nice and attentive, the place is clean, the food is awesome, they have a ton of beers on tap, good TVs, and make super tasty cocktails. I had the one with cranberry, Tito's and Prosecco last night. It was killer. I had a medium rare smothered steak. It was perfect. The folks sitting next to me had shepherds pie and salmon and said their food was super good too. I'll definitely be back! read more

I have to downgrade the rating on this pub. Not because of the food or the drink, but because of the service. Last time we were there, it was a group of 5. We were eating at the high tops in the bar area, and when we arrived we had waitress service for both food and drink. But after the initial service of food and drinks, we could not get a waitress to take orders for more food and drinks. We tried for over a half hour. It is not like they did not have waitresses there -- there were three of them in ladies room busy texting on the their phones rather than waiting tables. When we brought this to the attention of the owner, he became very arrogant and dismissive of the problem. He even told me to go to the bar to get my own beer. Nope, not spending my money there. There are other places just as good, with better service. read more

So the waitress was nice. Food was nothing to write home about, we ordered wings, chili and a BBLT asked our waitress if we could have it all at the same time. The chili and wings came out but no BBLT by the time the BBLT showed up the my brother was finished with his chili and we shared the wings, finally it arrives. Not a bad BLT but not the greatest it said on the menu 2 kinds of bacon I don't think it had two. Then the Fries there were some hot fresh fries covering up a bunch of cold old fries the hot fresh ones were pretty good. It seemed like there was an issue at most of the tables around us I noticed one person from 2 tables didn't receive there food with the rest of the table. Hopefully it was just a bad day in the kitchen and they can work out the issues. Not sure if I'll be back maybe I give it another try the next time I go to Billy's Midway arcade. read more

We went for appetizers and drinks and had a great time. The appetizers were good...wings with all three sauces which the kitchen accommodated and chicken parmigiana meatballs. We went mid week and later in the evening and was happy to see it was quite busy .. surprisingly so for Hawthorne. The wait staff was very friendly and service was quick. They were still on a limited menu so looking forward to trying this again. They have dining area in the bar section and also separate dining room. Went a few weeks back when they first opened and it was terrific. Went back on Saturday for lunch and ordered the tuna melt special. It wasn't a tuna melt it was a grilled cheese sandwich with a little bit of lack luster dark meat tuna in the middle. This is not a tuna melt! Service was rude. Fries were soggy and cold. Wow I really wanted this place to get a 5 star rating and it just doesn't even cut it. Where to begin the wait staff or the food ? Let's begin when we walked in and were greeted by an unfriendly hostess with zero personality. I'm not being mean about this but a smile and some animation goes a long way. We had asked her a few questions that seemed above her, not sure why she is a waitress ? She was young and probably needs to refine her technique or just not be in the hospitality business. Now on to the food ( buckle up ). We ordered the buffalo wings, they had a harder texture and not a lot meat. Don't order the wings. Also had a ask for more blue cheese dressing. My entree was Irish stew with mashed potatoes. It looked like dog food but it did taste good, the presentation was poor at best. My son got the always reliable chicken fingers and fries. The chicken was tasteless and stringy, not good. I would suggest that they find an accomplished Irish chef with a stellar resume of fine Irish cooking. And the portions were small and way over priced. It seems to me that they have put a lot of time and money into this place and it's in a great location but they need a chef that can deliver. Two of us sat outside for Sunday brunch. Took 10 minutes for our waitress, Danya, to bring menus. Then we waited 35 minutes for a wrap and an omelet. The waitress could not have cared less. This is s new fun restaurant in Hawthorne. Lively bar. Food was very good. Had the Shepard's pie made with lamb shank...you get the lamb shank! Sliced steak was also tasty. Been there twice and each time loved it. Some of the comments i have read here seem a little unfair i think due to the fact that when a Place first opens its doors for business you have to expect a few glitches along the way, i thought that was a given.....All seems to be running pretty much up to par now as we all loved the service, food and night out. The ambiance and character of the place is very welcoming, as are all the staff, who greet you with a very friendly hello the minute you walk in, and wish you well when you're leaving. Food is excellent and those Loaded Fries were so damn good, sliced steak deliciously melts in your mouth, Calamari all so good Two great evenings spent there, and looking forward to many more. read more

I was so excited to try this place and I reaaally wanted to like it. Unfortunately, it wasnt my favorite and I may not go back. I'll start with a positive - and that's atmosphere. It's a nice size place with cozy lighting and giant booths. So that's a plus. The food wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible, either. I got the Irish Stew, which was good, but bland. My husband got the smothered steak, which he described as, "pretty good." We also ordered appetizers: buffalo wings and onion rings. The wing sauce had good flavor, but the wings themselves were gummy and rubbery. The onion rings were also bland. The dipping sauce was good, though. The worst part was definitely the service. We weren't greeted right away and once we were sat, we waited 15 minutes for someone to come over. Normally, I would've left, but, like I said, I really wanted to like this place, so we stuck it out. Our waters came quickly after that, but our appetizers never did. Our entrees were served 20 minutes after the waters and we mentioned that we never got out apps, and so we had them post meal. I'm sorry to say this was a most disappointing experience. The menu looked so yummy and the place was decked out with holiday charm, it just didnt stand up to our expectations. There's nothing special about this place. Pub food. It's OK. Here goes: Started with wings in Jameson's bbq sauce. Those were good. At $12 for eight, that's a more than a little steep. I had the beef stew. It was served over mashed. My own taste for stew is that it should have some gravy to it. This didn't, though the meat was very tender. It was also light on the veggies. My wife and son had the sliced steak sandwich served over garlic toast. Thick slices of meat, apparently cooked properly. But the toast seemed to be an afterthought as the garlic butter should have been spread on the toast making it soft. Instead, it was a hard slab of Texas Toast. Why am I giving this place a two? Fish and chips should be part of the menu of an Irish-themed pub. It wasn't. What we found out near the end of our meal and from listening to another waiter talking to customers at another table was that fish and chips was available as a special. Our waiter never offered any specials. I'm in no hurry to go back. read more

Their new so they don't have a full menu yet- I would like to go back when they have a full one to see the options. I love this place! I've been going here since opening and even now during Covid. They have made the best of social distancing with a back area that is open-air and filled with patio lights and proper spacing between tables. It's clean and all servers wearing masks. I've always been a fan of this place and the lovely Irish owners, and to see the owners walk around table to table to greet their customers and check on everything-shows they care. The food specials are always plenty and so good! Drinks and apps are hard to choose because they are good. Really love this local gem. read more

Went back to the Celtic Corner for takeout and it was very, very good. Had a Ruben sandwich with fries and it was great. The place seems much more organized then just a few weeks ago, management seems to have ironed out some of the kinks from the "soft opening". I will definitely be going back.
