John manager finally showed up said cook Brendan cancelled order. I asked if he spoke to door dash he said he didn't know. Now order is going to be an additional 1/2 hour. I order the chili with cheese and it had good flavor, sweet with mild heat. A Buffalo Chicken Melt Breaded chicken, buffalo sauce, cheddar cheese and bleu cheese dressing with fries. With the pressed bread and breaded chicken, it was a little dry. The buffalo sauce was very good. Looking at all the 4 & 5 Star Reviews, I am assuming the Drinks they serve might be good, coz I just cannot imagine how the Food can be good based on my experience. My order consisted of Pub classics - Fish & Chips and Tater Tots, and it was definitely not what I expected. Let's start with the Fish & Chips. Just take a look at the photo - it was more like Fish Fingers with barely any flavor. Flavor is actually too big an expectation for food that lacked something as basic as salt. It was also both crispy and soggy at the same time. With every bite, water (??) dripped down and created a huge mess. Chips were decent. As to their Tater Kegs, it somehow felt like a scam. Description said, Bacon and Cheese stuffed Tater Tots, but it was nothing but lumpy mashed potatoes. Needed a search party to find the really tiny Bacon bits, and the cheese was non-existent. We wanted a family-friendly place to celebrate a grandmother birthday at 5 PM. MacMurphy's was perfect. I thought my French onion soup was very good. We shared the loaded nachos--good! Kids had grilled cheeses and fries. Others had chicken and steak and salads. All food very basic, but we thought it all hit the spot. The bonus: patio seating with great live music that we all could dance to. Kids had so much fun and asked the young and pretty woman singer/keyboarder if she could do a song from Frozen...and she did. She was talented and so nice and made our "party" a party. Cool dive bar with outdoor seating. The food hit the spot and the menu has some unique meals. Nothing spectacular about this as it serves as a good hang out spot for a drink. Bar area has TV's for those sporting events and the staff here are super friendly. Came here with a group and we split the bill. I had been to MacMurphy's a zillion years ago for mediocre food and the indoor dive bar atmosphere. However, I stopped there recently to have a drink on their outdoor patio, which also offered live music. It was an entirely different experience that I thoroughly enjoyed. The sweet server presented my Casamigos tequila and club soda in a generous pint glass at the reasonable price of $11. The music was excellent, as was the prime people-watching from my spacious table. While I do not know that I would dine at MacMurphy's for their bar food, I would certainly go back for their relaxing patio vibes. read more

My spouse and I came here for an easy lunch after going to IKEA-- we're from Hudson Valley NY & didn't know where to go in the area, we were starving. I'm not gonna lie, some of the reviews had me really questioning whether to go, and at first the service wasn't very inviting but I think that's because the bartender was tending to a few guys at the bar already and didn't really want to have to leave to serve a customer as she was by herself. But, she ended up being real nice and I think she was just a little overwhelmed. It's not very safe for a woman to have to be working with what seemed to be an all male staff and serving all men at the bar by herself. That I hadn't seen anywhere before. She was busy after taking our order for a while at the bar and was chatting it up with some of the guys who were talking to her in the bar room so idk what the miscommunication was, but all of a sudden a cook from the back who kinda looked rough around the edges and sounded super pissed off came out with my wife's chili and said under his breath while looking in the direction of the server "if she would just do her f***ing job, I wouldn't have to" as he awkwardly placed the cup of chili down on our table and walked away. We said thank you and he was still cussing as he walked away. But that chili was BOMB! So good! And my ham and Swiss on rye was absolutely delicious as well! I definitely don't think that was a normal experience to have with the cook. I think it was just cuz it was lunchtime on a weekday. It was dead in the dining room; just us. And the waitress went back to thank the cook for bringing it out for her, so I hope he was nice to her after that. I don't think she was trying to ignore us or not do her job in the dining room-- I think she was also not trying to be rude to the numerous men at the bar nor leave the bar unattended as there didn't appear to be any other host, bartender or waitress on duty at the time. I would stop bye again and give it another try if I'm in town because the food was so good! read more

BEWARE OF ADDED FEES. I went out with a group of 5 for dinner and when we got the check there was an automatic 20% gratuity added. In addition, an extra 3% fee for using your credit card. Absolutely absurd. Food wasn't bad and they did have live music but at no point at the start or anytime during our meal were those fees identified. read more

Rude waitress. Was told they wouldn't charge me for a drink, but when the bill came they overcharged me for the other drinks I got in order to make up for the drink they said they wouldn't charge me for. When we complained the waitress gave some lame excuse of "oh the prices on those menus are wrong". Horrible waitress. Look at your bills carefully when you go here because they'll charge you incorrectly and then play dumb. read more

My friends and I had a great experience here on Friday. The service was fast and friendly, the drinks were cold and well made, and the outdoor seating area is spacious and comfortable. Food was not great, guacamole was not homemade it was that store bought lousy kind. Chicken fingers were all hard crust, with little dry chicken. drinks were tall watered down kind. Service was good, actually that was the best part of the meal. One of our party ordered fish and chips said they were good and the French dip was good, but overall, the menus limited and some nice entertainment, but the menu needs an overhaul and more options should be offered. chicken fingers from the frozen section like Tysons would've been better. it was nice to be outdoors. The bathroom is down two flights of really steep stairs, which is intimidating even if you don't have a drink. I hadn't been there in 20 years and now I kind of remember why we hadnt been back however, we met some very nice people sitting around us . kids were running around and dogs, which is not what I enjoy, especially when you're in an adult beverage kind of situation. my suggestion have an area for families with children and have an area for people with dogs if you're going to allow and if you're allowing pets, you're supposed to have a special license where foods being served. read more

Came right before 1am, there was barely anybody there, sat down with two people who both ordered drinks and I said that I was good for now. The "bouncer" then walked over and asked to see my ID. I'm 23 years old and was visiting my boyfriend from another state but I've been to this bar a handful of times before. He asked me what county I was from then kept mumbling with his mask on and trying to trip me up saying that the same county was in New Jersey or something? He wouldn't look at my other forms of ID and said that just because he could go scan it doesn't mean that it was real. THEN he told me to call the cops if it's real so that they could confirm. He then walked away to go inside with my ID, and I sat there in shock. I followed shortly after and then he came out towards me. He gave me a hard time again then handed my ID back and told me I couldn't drink-- with 0 explanation for his behavior. One of my friends who got there shortly after this occurred went to speak with the bouncer. Another man working (manager?) came out and said that he saw the ID but they don't own a scanner. He then kicked all of us out for questioning what happened. Obviously the only thing this place has going for it is it's location and the fact there's absolutely no other bar on that side of the train tracks. UPDATE: I think my review hurt somebody's feelings, because I was told that I am now banned from this bar as a consequence for it. Oh nooooo! Don't ban me please! I'll now have to pick from one of the multiple other way more respected not to mention cleanlier establishments merely a block away! I'm not sure if any of them will try to harass and intimidate me because they can't tell the difference between a real and fake ID, but I can only hope! :( I'm really gonna miss the deafening live music and the men with fragile egos who work there. read more

I really like this place. Maybe the bad reviews come from folks who were expecting something different. This place has a big bar inside, trivia on Tuesdays and a great outdoor patio with amazing live music. Drinks have always been good. I always get the chicken salad. This is not one of the fancy trendy restaurants in Ridgewood, it's a solid layback dive bar with a big patio and great live music. Their trivia night is also fun. Yikes. So, I met a friend at Mac Murphy's Pub earlier tonight...had a few cocktails and a nice dinner but we were REALLY put off by the waitress chastising us for our "language". We were not loud or out of the norm inappropriate - but apparently the waitress didn't appreciate the few F bombs we used...there were kids at a table like 50 ft away...she made a point of mentioning their ages and said our language wasn't appreciated. Disappointing. It was not very busy and the food took forever despite there being plenty of staff it seemed. Pretzel appetizer which took at least 15 mins and then it came out rock hard and overcooked. Soup didn't come out until we had to ask again and then it took another 5 minutes. The kid's hamburger came out like a hockey puck. The meatball sliders was basically a meatball hero sliced in 3 and not good. I got a Buffalo Burger - not something you can easily screw up but it was also overcooked. Sad because we like this style food but this was not worthy of a return visit (we were here 7-8 years ago and recall it being decent). If you like Irish pub food then I recommend Lazy Lannigans in Hackensack or Celtic Corner in Hawthorne - both in the area and much much better both in terms of food and service read more

We went this past weekend. The restaurant typically serves irish/american fare which we have enjoyed in the past. This particular day they had a limited menu that included some german dishes to complement the Octoberfest occurring outside. We understood the limited menu and was ok with this. When we asked for the drink menu we were directed to use our phones and use the online menu. No problem. When we got our bill the costs for our drinks were more than what was listed on the online menu. When we questioned this, we were told that they had increased the prices for the Octoberfest and would not honor the prices listed on the drink menu that they have told us to order from. The cost difference was minor, but the misleading practice soured our experience so much that we will not be returning. read more

This was my "first" visit to MacMurphy's. I stopped in a year ago and was told to sit only at the bar and not at the tables. Since there were no open seats at the bar then I had no choice but to leave hungry. This time it was early at 11:15am after a doctor's appointment. Not surprisingly, it was empty except for the lady server and also, I assume, the cook in the kitchen. I ordered the famous burger with pepperjack cheese. I enjoyed my meal while watching and listening to a football news show on the televisions and engaging in sports banter. The burger was fine and the fries were better.
