Looking at all the 4 & 5 Star Reviews, I am assuming the Drinks they serve might be good, coz I just cannot imagine how the Food can be good based on my experience. My order consisted of Pub classics - Fish & Chips and Tater Tots, and it was definitely not what I expected. Let's start with the Fish & Chips. Just take a look at the photo - it was more like Fish Fingers with barely any flavor. Flavor is actually too big an expectation for food that lacked something as basic as salt. It was also both crispy and soggy at the same time. With every bite, water (??) dripped down and created a huge mess. Chips were decent. As to their Tater Kegs, it somehow felt like a scam. Description said, Bacon and Cheese stuffed Tater Tots, but it was nothing but lumpy mashed potatoes. Needed a search party to find the really tiny Bacon bits, and the cheese was non-existent. Complete disappointment.

French Onion Soup

We wanted a family-friendly place to celebrate a grandmother birthday at 5 PM. MacMurphy's was perfect. I thought my French onion soup was very good. We shared the loaded nachos--good! Kids had grilled cheeses and fries. Others had chicken and steak and salads. All food very basic, but we thought it all hit the spot. The bonus: patio seating with great live music that we all could dance to. Kids had so much fun and asked the young and pretty woman singer/keyboarder if she could do a song from Frozen...and she did. She was talented and so nice and made our "party" a party. Good service and drinks came out fast! We had a blast and perfect casual family birthday (we did the cake after back at house). Thanks MacMurphy's for a great time!

Cool dive bar with outdoor seating. The food hit the spot and the menu has some unique meals. Nothing spectacular about this as it serves as a good hang out spot for a drink. Bar area has TV's for those sporting events and the staff here are super friendly. Came here with a group and we split the bill. I was surprised they had added the tip automatically to each bill even though it was separate.

Although the burger looked good as well as the blt as well as the crispy chicken, was disappointed in the Shepherds Pie for Irish Faire. Band. Food. Fair faire. Nachos were good. Service EXCELLENCE.

Live music outdoors

We simply came for some drinks and live music. MacMurphy has the perfect outdoor patio for a nice warm summer night. We heard a young Irish man sing (classics), they had corn holes and about 20 tables outside. We cant wait to come back to try the food.

$2.50 for ice?

Not the best service but it's what you expect. Thing that made me wanna leave a review is that they charge $2.50 to put ice in your drink!

Inside of stuffed tots - yum

The loaded tots were delicious, staff was very nice, drinks were good and fairly priced. Parking was convenient, decent covered outside area with games, inside even have some classic video games. I would go back again

We stopped in mid-week for a family dinner after work and even on a Wednesday the place was buzzing. The restaurant itself is pretty tiny, which makes for a cozy atmosphere but also means tables are very close together. If you can, I'd definitely recommend making a reservation. The menu is somewhat minimal, but the food overall was good. I eat gluten-free and noticed the options were a bit limited, which made ordering slightly challenging. I ended up going with the sea scallops. They were nicely cooked, but the portion was smaller than I expected--five small scallops with some vegetables. For the price, I do wish the portion had been a bit more generous. I have to admit I left still a little hungry. My dad ordered the short rib grilled cheese and really enjoyed it. That was probably the standout dish at our table. My sister ordered the honey bourbon chicken and said it was okay, but afterward she mentioned she probably should have gone with the short rib grilled cheese instead. One surprise of the night was live music on a Wednesday. I usually enjoy live music, but since we were hoping to catch up as a family it made conversation a little difficult. The music was fairly loud for such a small space. Service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. They also have a rewards program, which worked out nicely--my dad received a complimentary dessert for his birthday. I ordered the crème brûlée, which was a great way to end the meal. A couple practical tips: parking in Ridgewood can be tricky. The restaurant advertises valet parking, though we didn't use or see it during our visit. If you find street parking, make sure to feed the meter because the town is known for giving out tickets. In warmer months they do offer some outdoor sidewalk seating, though it looks fairly limited. It also appears they have a happy hour, though we didn't arrive in time to try it. Overall, I'd recommend checking out Steel Wheel Tavern--just be mindful of the timing of your visit, especially if you're hoping for a quieter dinner.

Service was rushed although courteous - we got take out boxes seated on a table as entries arrived. Calamari were overdone and oversalted. Short ribs were ok, duck was overdone and not carved. Our server was Alyssa, she is super fantastic, explained menu, answered our questions, told us about the specials, she was friendly, professional, knowledgeable of all menu items and really made our visit a very pleasant time throughout our dinner. We each started our dinner with a bowl of homemade soup, my wife had clam chowder, and I had the soup of the day which was beef barley. My wife ordered Shepherd's Pie. It's a huge portion loaded with ground beef, vegetables, topped with mashed potatoes, cheddar cheese and baked to a golden brown. She thoroughly enjoyed every bite. I ordered the Prime Rib Special. It was beautifully cooked to a medium rare perfection; it was super tender and melted in my mouth. I got mashed potatoes and sautéed veggies. It also came with a container of Au jus. We did not have any room to attempt to try any dessert, but we will definitely save room on our next visit. I highly recommend Blackjack Mulligans especially if you want good food with fantastic service, having a great experience and a phenomenal time.

In addition to having a full size bar and main dining area, the walls are adorned with very attractive wall art. Thai Chili Wings: The wings have a perfect blend of sweet and spice. As always, the blue cheese dipping sauce is the backbone to this appetizer. Bavarian Pretzel: In lieu of being shaped into a knot, the bavarian pretzel looks like a hot dog. I may not agree with the appearance, but I 100% agree with the taste. The pretzels are war and crispy on the outside while soft and doughy on the inside. And don't be shy with those helpings of pretzel salt! Steak and Arugula Sandwich: This tender, superb sandwich was cooked medium rare and served with sauteed onions & mushrooms on ciabatta bread. Classic BLT: Served on Texas toast, this sandwich has an addition of mayonnaise and avocado to supplement the three primary ingredients. Crab Cake Sandwich: For an Irish pub, this was an excellent seafood sandwich. The crab cake was breaded with panko crumbs and had a variety of toppings. The chipotle aioli sauce was the backbone to this boneless meal. As a bonus, this pub hosts special events throughout the week from Trivia Night to live bands. This pub serves excellent meals and it goes to show you don't need alcoholic drinks or cocktails for a great dining experience! #celticcorner #hawthornenj #irishpub #thaichiliwings #bavarianpretzels #steaksandwich #BLT #CrabCakeSandwich #eats #localspots #foodreview #foodstagram #njfoodie

Visiting family from out of town and we decided to try this place…read more Ambiance: it was kind of loud but you could tell people were having a great time and I loved that happy environment. Lighting is dim but you could still read your menu, it's like intimate lighting. Our waitress was super patient and sweet! So was the young man that brought us our food and helped with refills on drinks. Food: Disappointed! I had high hopes for the chicken français but it was on the bland side and really just tasted like lemon juice and not really a classic lemon francais sauce if that makes sense and not really hot. I actually left hungry and my husband and I ended up getting McDonald's later on because even he (who isn't a big eater) was like I'm so hungry. My mom's food was very dry and my aunts meat (the Dublin steak) was very tough. My aunts boyfriend also had an issue with his meat (roast beef I believe) as far as flavor and the meat being kind of tough. My mom was the only one to send her food back because honestly the wait for the food was very long and the rest of us didn't want to wait longer. My brother got the Ruben and the one from mcalisters deli (it's a fast food place in the south if your not familiar) was wayyyy better in flavor, taste, and texture. He also got a Shepards pie to go (he's an eater lol) and he said it greatly lacked in flavor. We were actually there so long to the point as SOON as we got our check - some of us were literally still trying to pay our check- we were asked to hurry and leave because they needed the tables because we had been there a while. Yes, we were there a while but it was because it took so long to get food and our checks, it wasn't because we were just sitting there. I'm not sure if the women who told us to get moving like knew that we were still paying ect. Overall I gave it a 2/5. We visit this area a few times a year and probably won't be back.
