Never been here and never will. My daughter and her friends were visiting from Memphis. They were walking around and came across this place. Upon entering, the (Hispanic ) bartender stop them before they got to choose a table and automatically asked for their ID with a disgusted look. Usually places ask at least when you start ordering. She was sharp with girls and told them to go in the next room. They stayed by the bar because that's where they wanted sit. This bartender was not happy to serve and kept making them feel not welcomed. But one positive, their waitress (blonde hair) and busboy were extremely friendly. I called the manager was told by a Hispanic lady (maybe bartender) that they were busy and would call back. Gave her the information for call back. Guess what? No call back. Great way to run a place. Sad! Bad experience for the girls visiting from Memphis. read more

Food was excellent. We ordered several starters and a dozen oysters. Fried calamari was delicious. Eggplant balls were wonderful and the bruschetta was our favorite. Service was great, very attentive and polite. Definitely going back read more

I had the paella. The flavor was good but the seafood was rubbery. Service was pretty good.

Where do I begin. I was assigned to plan a bridal shower for the bride to be had to look for a venue that was stylish, rustic, unique, and conveniently located for 30 ladies to enjoy. I stumbled upon Cellar 7 and was immediately drawn to the decor and space. I reached out to them via Instagram DM , the person who met with me to tour the space was one of the owners Ali and the event coordinator/GM , Steve. The planning process was quick fast efficient. I was also able to sample some food items that we were interested in ordering. Steve kept in contact with me via email and text up until the event date. The quality of the food, temperature, and flavors were delicious! We went with 2 kinds of pasta, octopus , spinach artichoke dip, tuna tar tar ,pizza, and fresh fruit tray which were all flavorful (refer to images) The dough of the pizzas were thin and not heavy which was a huge plus for me personally. One thing that stood Out to me was how Steve rotated the food and served our second serving once the first servings were low or ran out. Not only were guest pleased with being served hot food , they kept coming back for seconds and thirds- everyone raved about the food during and after the event. Now here's the cherry on top which was absolutely unexpected. We had games for the guest but it totally slipped my mind that I needed pens. I asked steve if he had any and he said yes. I noticed when he came back 30 minutes later with the pens, he was removing them from a new package. I asked him did he just go somewhere to purchase these for us and he said "of course" WOW talk about anticipating a need! You can def tell this wasn't Steve's first Rodeo! On to the beverage side of things : We pre-bought the first rounds of drinks for our guest which we were given drink tickets to pass out to each guest who were drinking. The bartenders , Bill and Ludwin were very attentive and never just stood behind the bar. They walked around, refilled our waters, asked each guests if they needed another round of drinks, and cleared out our plates. All the ladies loved the Bartenders! The service , food, and attentiveness made me feel like I was at the Ritz Carlton ! All in all, I would def go with Cellar 7 for any special events in the future. The space also offers happy hours and specials on certain days ! This Gem in Downtown should def get more recognition then what it's currently getting. read more

I went to a work party here shortly before Christmas. We enjoyed our drinks, food and the environment. The bartender was very helpful as we selected our wines. He was very knowledgeable and patiently gave us samples until we chose the perfect wine! They seem to have a pretty sophisticated wine program. The food was very tasty and I tried almost everything :) the pizzas were extremely good. They had several varieties that were all flavorful and very cheesy. There was a fabulous spinach dip, yummy shrimp and cheeses and meats. We had a mini-buffet for our function, but I think most of these dishes are available on their regular or happy hour menus. Atmosphere was very nice, cozy and upscale. There are several seating options: bar area, main tables and sitting areas. They had holiday decorations up making things really pretty and festive. I enjoyed trying this spot and will add it to my list of after work happy hour/bites spots! read more

From California, I planned a birthday party for adult twins, party of 10, including 3 small children. Age range of attendees was from 83 to 6! We were attending the Broadway production of Lion King at the Houston Hobby Center and staying in nearby hotels. I looked at the menu onlinewhich offered multiple choices for varied taste including vegetarian and gluten free and kids, called the restaurants for a few details, the location was perfect. This is quite difficult to do from a distance but they made it easy and accommodating. We were not disappointed. From the beginning the staff was responsive and welcoming and flexible with changes, etc. The food was excellent; the service prompt and friendly; they were able to provide a complete cake and a good time was had by all and we left in time for the show. Thank you so much to the staff and management. I highly recommend Cellar 7 for individuals or a larger party. read more

Good food, terrible service. Reheated coffee. Would not recommend or return. Poor experience overall.

The food is ok, but way overpriced. Our waiter, who's name is cesar was rude and didn't offer any specials. When we asked another waiter he told us about them and their prices. When the check arrived the price of the special I ordered was 5 dollars more than what we were told. The waiter called the manager and refused to change the price. Debut and good bye to this place. read more

Was there with a party of 10 people. The server was ok, however he forgot my husbands order and it was just oysters and gumbo; he forgot the latter. I ordered the red snapper which was ok. The lemon drop was ok but when you order a lemon drop, you should also have a ! IJS. Anyway was a party of 10, we only had one server. Perhaps it would've been better if we had to. We did have a couple other service check in on us intermittently but it wasn't consistent. And it wasn't like it was very busy. We were the only large table party there. There was one other but they left about 10 minutes after I arrived. In general, I guess I will go ahead just for the wine but definitely not the food. I think they should just have light bites because their menu was so extensive, it seem to be there were a jack of all trades but a master of none. None of the other people really truly enjoyed their food as well. They did not like the brisket and mac & cheese. Overall very subpar experience. read more

I went on the night of their re-grand opening. The space is beautiful and a decent size for downtown. They also have a nice patio area. Menu items were pretty reasonably placed considering its downtown. I ordered the grilled lemon garlic oysters, recommended by the manager, and they didn't disappoint. One downside is as more people arrived, they didn't seem adequately staffed for the relatively small crowd. My brussel sprouts were a little cold when they arrived to me at the bar. All in all I think this is a great place for a date or a sophisticated girl's night out. read more

How am I the first to review this place?? What a cute and trendy wine bar to go in Downtown! Cellar 7 is connected to The District so if you walk inside The District entrance just keep walking and you'll step inside Cellar 7. Parking: You can either park on the streets with meter parking or you can park inside the parking garage which is a short distance away. Service: The moment me and my friend at down we were immediately greeted by Brian and he asked us what type of wines we wanted. Brian was super attentive and suggested most popular wines but we just stuck with the house wine. He stopped by every 2-3 minutes to check in on how we were doing. Wine: House wine Fox Hollow (5/5) I ordered the Red and she ordered the white. Nothing negative to say but I could definitely have 5+ glasses of this. Next time I'll try a different glass but if you aren't an expert in wine try the house wine! Environment: Super clean, chic, and trendy! They even had glasses that had "C7" on them. Super cute. Love this place! Will definitely be coming back again and will bring more friends. I'll write an updated review when I try the food! read more

Why? & Why not? -convenient location, expected downtown prices, friendly (...a lil too friendly staff) - dorm kitchen food (not even freshman year), it's like it's missing just one ingredient- no matter what the dish (I tried redfish tostada, crab cake sandwich, and salmon salad on separate occasions) The first and second are notable. The third #refund-worthy.... Would I go bk again. Yea, by default... the highlight of this place is the misted patio with outdoor seating. If that's enough for an eatery..then your probably dieting. I'm guessing the spot will be most valuable to lounge on the couch and people watch. And eve then I'd prob only order a wine and not even challenge anyone to mix drinks...#just saying Oh and if u choose to sit outside prepare for a game of peekaboo because they have a self seating 'catch me if you can' system....Prob not bad if you have time to spend. This place is worth a try, for r n r, once or twice, in passing, but otherwise avoid during rush hours and enjoy!...if u have mild tastebud demands read more

Seemed like a nice place. Difficult to find parking, called and couldn't tell us where to park. Arrived and the music was blaring. Group of kids running around the whole time there while 6 mom's drank their wine. Eventually the waiter came. Asked what he recommended and he stated his was from the crappier location and really couldn't recommended anything. I had the Red Snapper which was tougher then the sole of my shoe and tasted worse. My wife had the chicken prepared on skewers and looked nothing like the one online. Tasted as bad as mine if not worse. Chicken felt microwaved by the toughness. Waited 15 min for waiter to come back to his only table. Never apologized so I asked for the Manager. She came over and after explaining everything she said she never have recommended those dishes because the chicken is Bland and the Snapper gets a lot of complaints. Offered free meal next time. LoL, next time. My wife and I try out a lot of places and this was one of our worst experiences read more

I recently hosted my birthday dinner at Cellar 7 back in January and I will definitely be back. The chipotle chicken and cabo breeze cocktail was delicious, as well as the appetizers my group shared. Made a reservation for a booth. When I arrived, I was told to seat myself. No booths were open, but there was one table. It needed to be wiped down, so I asked them to do that. It took them 5-7 minutes, even though it wasn't busy. Finally, the bartender wiped it down herself. She also apologized for being short staffed. I was given a menu and then proceeded to wait another 8-10 minutes for one waitress to get a drink order or acknowledge my presence. We had tickets to a show, so I was nervous about their ability to finish a service in an hour, so we left for a different restaurant. Perhaps it has amazing food and drinks, but I will never know. Seems obvious of why it was empty in December when all venues are full on a Saturday night. read more

I have come Here a couple times, but recommended many! HH had nice options. The Brussels were good and spinach dip was tasty, especially with the naan chips. We choose the Boar and Bison pizza as our entree, adding arugula on top for greenish decor :-)... wonderful choice! Drinks were well crafted as well. My only suggestion would be to work on quicker service; for there to be all of 10 people in the restaurant at the time of our dining, the food took much longer than anticipated. read more

This review is based on the local (gulf coast) oysters and the service during happy hour, both of which I'm thrilled with. Ludwin is a kickass bartender. He mixes a mean margarita, is super friendly, and answered all my questions about the house specialties. The oysters speak for themselves. Or at least they would if I hadn't devoured them before they had a chance to say anything. Maybe I've got a side gig as a walrus and/or carpenter. Who knows. But the oysters are so fresh and so good, and best of all, the happy hour deals are NO SHENANIGANS - unlike another oyster/booze joint downtown that shall remain nameless! No hidden charges, no fine print saying you have to sell a piece of your soul to Satan for ever dozen you order, nada. Just awesome oysters, no funnybusiness. Definitely recommend! read more

Went here with the girls looking for a cute vibe. It was Saturday night but this place was dead. The host told me to seat myself anywhere and when I did the table was dirty. I couldn't order a drink while I waited because no one came by. Once my party was there we ordered drinks and they were ok until my friend saw a long hair stuck to her glass. Ew. I read they had music but we didn't hear any. The food was just ok. I had tostadas that could have used sauce/salsa. I squeezed a ton of lime over them and it was better. Their bathrooms are really gross, it make me apprehensive about the kitchen we'd just had food from. It's a no for me. read more

We went with high expectations that this was going to be a fabulous place. I don't plan to go back. It is connected through a doorway with district 7 Grill... They use the same staff so we were left sitting for long periods of time without anyone refilling our water glasses or paying attention at all. My meal was supposed to be a braised short rib. It did not appear at all to be a braised short rib and in addition they continue to refer to it as braised beef. I asked and no one ever explained. It was okay but it was not a short rib. The reason we chose to go that night was we wanted to hear the jazz music that they head advertised. The singer was good when we could hear her. Her 2 guitarist overpowered her quite often, especially in the terrible acoustics. I'm not sure it's a venue for that kind of entertainment. There was a table of 20 or so very close to her and they were not paying any attention and their conversation kind of overtook the sound where the hard brick walls and metal ceiling in the room made it very difficult to enjoy the music. And last but not least, the bathrooms... Disgusting, not clean, garbage cans overflowing, paper towel roll on a bench as it had fallen out of the holder... that was the women's room, my boyfriend said the men's room was not up to par either. I think how a bathroom is in a restaurant is a little too indicative of what the rest of the place might be like. My trip to the bathroom was not late night it was about 8:30 or 9 p.m. ... Maybe I could understand if it were a bar only and it was 2 a.m. Just pretty embarrassing for what I would have thought was a high-end place by the way they advertise in the other restaurants they are connected with. Yep no second trip for us. read more

Stopped by and sat on the dog friendly covered patio area where they have dog bowls ready with ice water for your pup. Even in the heat of the summer, the misters and curtains make the patio manageable. We wanted oysters and they delivered, $10 doz. of gulf and $20 doz. of east coast, which is a great deal! The oyster shot was great as well. I didn't like that they charge for oyster condiments. I think that should be part of the dish and our server was pretty clueless. So, if you want a good deal on oysters, this is the place. read more

Food is mediocre; would've have a better meal eating at chili's... Came here Saturday night at 9 for HRW. Literally every course incredibly disappointing and lacking in various ways, probably one of the worst meals i ever had in my life given that this was a somewhat "nice" place. Appetizers: -lump cake 2/5: appearance was poor and taste was okay, nothing interesting - braised ribs Mac and cheese 1/5- one of the worst Mac and cheese ever. SUPER SOUPY but flavor wasn't so bad. Friend described it as hamburger helper like, i agree Entre: Short ribs- ribs dry af and spinach salty af. Did not finish because it was just so bad Salmon salad- literally just tasted like baked salmon fillet on a bed of cabbage. Nothing tasty at all Dessert- ALL OF IT SUCKED tres leches- lacked that creamy and sweet taste. Just tasted like milky cake Bread pudding- DRY AF; no flavor at all Creme brûlée - bit too runny for my taste read more

Location is prime being that it is downtown and close to where my home is. I actually was not planning on coming to this spot since the original restaurant that I was going to was temporary closed, so I tried it out. My friend and I ordered some oyster samplers, buffalo, lemon garlic and bacon jam. The buffalo oyster was overpowered with the buffalo sauce and did not allow your palate to explore anything other than the strong buffalo taste. The bacon jam was a pleasant sweet yet salty flavor with an interesting back story of how they cook the bacon and jam with the fat renderings, my favorite was the lemon garlic oyster robust lemon flavoring. I wanted to get some Rockefeller oysters but this place does not serve them, so I was bummed not to be able to compare to other restaurants I have been to that serve Rockefeller. The amount of patrons dining was not that many so it seemed the pace was slow to bring food out. Our order got messed up and we were brought the wrong food out twice so I didn't understand the error considering the restaurant didn't appear to be slammed. read more

We came here for a friend's birthday as well as for HRW and it's by far the worst restaurant I've ever been to. I'm amazed that they can mess up desserts but let me start from the beginning. I got the crab cake for appetizer and although it wasn't that bad the presentation was just sloppy. Then I got the braised rib for my main dish and it was very dry and salty, even the spinach was salty. I also ordered the Mac and cheese, which was more like a soup and tasted like Hamburger helper. For dessert I got Tres Leches to be safe, but boy was I wrong. It was like they soaked a very dry piece of cake with milk but not even the condensed milk version but just regular milk, or maybe it was almond milk? Either way Tres Leches was not supposed to taste like that. The service was extra slow and it wasn't even busy. I'm super disappointed and never come back. read more

I had the grilled oysters with the buffalo, lemon butter, and bacon jam flavors. My favorite were lemon butter and bacon jam. Although the bacon jam was tasty, I felt like all I tasted was the bacon jam and not so much the oysters. The buffalo tasted exactly like hot sauce. The grilled did warm them up and was a good alternative to the normally cold raw ones. I liked the flavors and would come back here. Here on a Sunday night by accident. I thought I was going to The District but the GPS brought me here. The menu posted outside is the exact same as The District so I came in. Was greeted right away and the bartender/server was nice....slow, but nice. I had the local oysters and the beet Caprese salad. The oysters were good, but you cannot order a half dozen so I felt bad not finishing them all. The beet Caprese salad is delicious! This place was such a disappointment. I came in this past Sunday at 3 pm with two friends. There was no one there, not even a bartender. We sat for a few minutes before I stood up to look around. I got the attention of a server next door (the same person/company owns the restaurant next door) and he came over and brought menus. They were menus for the restaurant next door. We ask him for a wine list and if he can give us the wine bar menu (that is very different from the restaurant menu) and he tells us that they don't have it. He brings us the wine list and informs us that if we want to eat from the restaurant menu we need to do so soon because the kitchen is closing. We inform him that the website and the door say that the wine bar is open until 11 and we were expecting the wine bar menu. He says that the website isn't updated because "they are bad at it" and they were closing early anyways because they had been slow??? We felt really uncomfortable and left. So basically it was just an extension of the restaurant and not a wine bar at all like the website suggests. This place won't make it. read more
