What's not to like here?! Super friendly staff and a quick in and out place for Chinese bakery items. No seating available but it's one of those places you pick up and go. They have a good selection of bakery items as well as roast duck etc. They actually had my white sugar cake which I always am on the hunt for. Prices of items are so cheap that we always tip nearly the same amount that it costs because we feel bad! All that hard work to make such yummy foods ~ but we're happy to come back. The owners or recipe has changed because the duck and charsiu were pretty mediocre. The duck isn't as crispy of flavorful as other shops. My usual go to spot down in aurora was out for the month so we got the duck from here and it was disappointing. The duck was cut into large pieces. The legs are usually the best part of the duck but it was just lack luster. Probably good if you want to take the duck and boil it for soup or make congee with. Otherwise, find another location or drive down to Westminster. The only thing I would order from here would be the Chinese donut because that is still made fresh and ready to go. read more

Super friendly service! The lady that helped us was very sweet! I will definitely return because of her! But not only that, some of the savory pastries we got were delicious. Only downfall is that we did get overcharged on a few items, we bought 24 items but got charged for 30 items. I didn't realized this until we were already 25 mins out on the road and looking over my receipt. The steam buns were very fresh, you can tell they were made the same day and that they were not old. Delicious traditional Chinese/cantonese bakery in the far east center. Very reminiscent of a traditional bakery in Hong Kong. The desserts and pastries here are top notch. They also have roast pork and duck that are phenomenal. The staff is very friendly too, I would recommend!!! read more

I really wanted to like this place. I am a Chinese immigrant and I am visiting the area for a month. I always try to look for authentic Chinese food. I purchased one of everything that I usually get. The steamed BBQ pork bun was inedible. The filling had a very strange taste. The bread was grainy. The baked BBQ pork bun had different filling and it was better than the steamed one. But it was still not good. The bread was not sweet and fluffy. It was just bland and dry. The wife cakes were the best out of the bunch. Even though they are a bit rustic looking and the skin was not the usual flaky layering. More of a cookie dough wrapping than the traditional wife cakes. But the flavor was good so I did enjoy them. The egg custard was dense and was very jelly like in consists. The crust was good, but I would not get it again. The sesame ball was good except for the lotus seed filling. Not sure what it was, but the flavor was not right on it. The pineapple bun looked good but the bread was not good. It had a very strange texture and the filling looked and tasted very similar to the egg tart filling. Not good at all. The gai mai boa was bland. The bread was dense, not fluffy and sweet like it should be. The filling was ok. But I ended up not eating it all. It didn't taste good together. The bak tong gou was ok. A little thin and overly oily but the flavor was good. The hot dog bun was the best of the bunch items. The bread was a good ratio to the hot dog. But the bread was still a bit bland. But still edible. The cha siu was flavorful but over cooked. So it was dry. The crispy pork was over cooked and dry. The flavor wasn't bad. A little on the salty side. This really was a disappointment. I hate having to leave this review for a small family owned business. But it wouldn't be fair to rave about very mediocre tastes. When ever I'm in the area, this spot is definitely the place to hit up. When we have visitors from out of town, we usually hit up this spot to grab snacks for our guests on the way back from the airport. Our usual favorites to swallow: SESAME BALLS: Hands down, this is our favorite thing here. We usually call ahead and order it by the dozen so that they are hot and fresh. They are perfectly crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. EGG TARTS: great flavors and the pastry is light and fluffy. I usually pick up other thing like the steamed sponge cake, pork buns or whatever else I'm in the middle when I go to the counter. I've been pretty pleased with everything they put out. This place is still perfect for a quick pick-me-up. If you're craving a specific dim sum dish or Chinese baked good, this is where to go get it. Since it was never a sit-down place anyway, this business is operating pretty much the same as it was before. They just added some plexiglass and tape on the floor to mark how far to stand in line. They'll ask you for your order and you just take it with you in a box. I come here for my classic favorites -- the cha siu bao (BBQ Pork Bun) and dan tat (egg tart). This bakery was actually recommended to me for its fresh BBQ pork cuts, so you know that's always gonna be a good choice. The dan tat is so soft and sweet and fluffy, you'll probably want to order more than just one even though they come in quite a decent size. The only thing I wish I did was reheat the goods before devouring them. I don't know if it would have been warm and fresh had I come here first thing in the morning, like it is in Hong Kong. I'm so grateful that my friend discovered Celestial Bakery! I didn't realize how much I'd been craving Chinese baked goods since moving to Denver... as a bonus, they speak Cantonese here. The bakery has everything from BBQ pork buns to egg tarts. We forgot cash and ordered more, just to meet the credit card minimum. No complaints about that. Everything feels and smells like home. I stopped by this hidden gem needing some bread for my soup. It's located in the Far East Center off of Federal. I stopped in to pick up some chao quay (fried bread sticks) on my way home to go along with some soup my mother made me. Well, I didn't get far before I reached into the bag and touched the light, fluffy goodness that was chao quay. I don't even know how I made it all the way home before eating all 6 little loaves. They're perfect! They're soft, every-so-slightly sweet, and there's little air pockets throughout that made it perfect for my chicken soup. I will definitely be supporting this local gem. read more

This Westcoast gal transplant loves this place and love that it is a ons-stop shop, if you will, offering baked goods, Chinese BBQ and deli items. They have all the Chinese bakery delights my family and I enjoy the most, especially the sweet rice cake that I affectionately and lovingly slap my husband with -a tradition that began when were young teen lovers traversing and exploring the food world together. I feel at home here. The high pitched tender chatter back and forth from the store owner and customers is bliss for me. I'm so glad i came upon this place as often being in an unfamiliar place, I can feel lost and alone. The sense of community is strong in this place though small and humble it is loaded with goodness. I love just being able to stop in, choose a few items like the rice cakes, shumai, shrimp dumplings, a pound of roast pork and a pound of roast duck then be on my merry way. Went there for 2 things. Egg custard and sesame balls. The egg custard crust was very flaky, which was good. But the custard was probably the smallest I've seen. It's about half of the size of the ones in NYC, Calif or my hometown of Texas. The sesame ball, I thought it had the filling of red beans, but due to language barrier with the owner, I couldn't understand her well. Anyway, it's not red beans, but it's the other filling of yellow in color. I think it's the mung bean? I heated both in the toaster oven to refresh the taste and texture. It's sometimes hard to imagine what heaven would look like, but a good start is a delicious fluffy white bun filled with fantastic barbecued pork. The celestial bakery is a hidden gem and that's putting it mildly. These are some of the best pork buns I've ever had, hot and fresh and oh so delicious. My only recommendation, is to get there reasonably early, because they do sell out. And the baked buns are fresh so sometimes you will have to wait 20 or 30 minutes for the next batch to be ready. It takes me about 30 minutes to get here, and it is always incredibly worth the trip. read more

I always enjoy the dim sum here - my favorites are the steamed bread pork and cabbage bun, the baked pork bun, and the "saltish horn" or deep fried dumpling. Last time were were there early and the baked bao was just going in the oven. We waited for them to cook and it was worth while. They were delicious. The meat in the sui mai is ground a little coarsely for my taste, but other than that, I have enjoyed most everything. I actually suspect that many restaurants in town source their dim sum from here (just by the look of the dumplings). I always stop there when leaving Denver so I have snacks all the way home! read more

I did indeed find BBQ pork buns at Celestial Bakery but, surprisingly, they really weren't that good (fatty, hardly any pork, not much flavor). Bummer. Among the various buns, cookies and pastries I bought (less than a dollar each), the highlights were the almond cookies and the egg custard tart thingies. Now those were delicious! Had I not been a bit intimidated by the lady shrieking at me, I would have taken the time to check out the barbecued chicken, duck and pork hanging in the case... Hanging, that is, next to the sad-looking pigs' heads :( But with the sight of a bucket of raw chicken legs on the floor by the cookie counter, and "HELLO?" ringing in my ears, I paid for my cookies, and left. Edit: I've been back a couple of times since this review, and still LOVE the egg custard tarts. The "Chinese Tamale" is tasty but a little weird (and watch out for bones in the chicken. So, you're pining for some Dim Sum, but don't want to deal with crashing carts, and wonky service, and erratic hours - oh my! Well, you've come to the right place. At Celestial you can get succulently sweet Cha Siu Bao (barbecue pork buns) right alongside moist, dense Lo Bak Go ("turnip cakes", actually made from daikon radish). Or why not sample a glutinous rice roll, rich with pork and dried shrimp? (Now, I know you really, really want to eat it right away, but unless you're trying to add extra fiber to your diet, I strongly suggest removing the paper on the bottom of the roll before consumption!) If your sweet tooth is sending out a distress signal, never fear! The bakery can help with that too. How about a dense, eggy Dan Taat (custard tart), or a crispetty-crunchetty sesame ball stuffed with sweet red bean paste? You could even try one of their signature delights, the Bo Lo Bao (pineapple bun). In a similar situation to its Japanese cousin, the Melonpan (melon bun), this item is actually named for the design on top of the bun, which generally contains no pineapple whatsoever. I haven't been here in ages since I moved, but when I went in the first thing that hit me was nostalgia smell of the bakery. I got a 1/2 lb of char siu and it tasted amazing. And the price was around 6.50 per lb. I also got three baked bbq pork buns and 1 steamed one. The baked ones truly skimpped out on the bbq pork it was very hollow when you bit into it, and the char siu tasted a little sour in the bun... I threw out all the baked ones. The steamed one I felt was delicious, the bread was soft and fluffy and they gave a good about of meat. I also got a couple of fried pork dumplings. It did like there's as much as once again I felt it was a little sour inside. I probably won't be back for awhile... but definitely brought back childhood memories. read more

Cash only for anything below $5 but they take credit cards for anything above that amount. This is pretty authentic Cantonese style pastry. They definitely have really good anything baked. Like Ran T. said, I don't really care for their steamed items either unless I want some steamed 'man-tou' which is just Asian steamed bread with nothing in it. Sometimes I would fried an egg and put some soy sauce in the middle of man-tou and eat it for breakfast. But I can always buy it frozen from Pacific Ocean Market and steam it myself at home. Anyway, I love this place for it's sponge cake dessert. It's always located on top of the case all the way to the left when you are facing their cash register. It's basically layered vanilla cake with slight cream in the middle between layers... and it's cut in a triangle. They always sell it in 2s and it's light and delicious. Asian pastry is known to not be too sweet and I like them like that. Definitely a place to check out for their char-siu and ducks. Great food at great prices! read more

This is the WORSE dim sum I've EVER HAD!! It was Nasty--NaStY--NASTY!!!!! So I originally heard they had sweet rice cake, like the Hawaiian style back home, but they didn't have it so we got a few things because well, I heard it was good. First of all it was Disgusting, no Flavor, Bland and just Gross!!!! YUCK! BBQ pork bun - F- , the bun wasn't even sweet like I've had EVERYwhere else! I've never tasted such disgusting Manapua in my life and I grew up on this stuff in Hawaii and Asia. The inside was more than 1/2empty and the mean was flavorless! Shumai - was disgusting and taste like what I think bland rubber shoelaces would taste like. I tried flavoring it with soy sauce, but it still didn't help. Besides good dim sum especially shumai doesn't need any shoyu or sauce. Moon cake - was the only actual tasty thing, wish got more than just one. Pineapple Custard - there was NO custard inside of it. It was Completely Empty! Disgusting, no flavor and it was like just eating raw flour. Sticky Rice - this was atleast full of filling, but again NO flavor!! I mean I know my Chinese and dim sum, they should be bursting with flavor and tasty, but these were just a Disgrace to part of my heritage!! Char Siu- we bought a lb. to use in the Saimin I'm making 2nite, but honestly I'm too scared to try it on it's own. Hopefully my homemade tasty broth will mask what faults it may have, since the char siu int he bake bun was barely edible. Never Again will I subject myself to this place and such pure torture! They have been in business for 22 years. Love the Peking duck, BBQ pork, and ginger chicken. I come at least 3 to 4 times a month to bring some deli home. They have a nice selection of dim sum as well. The baked pork buns are so delicious and are made fresh everyday. I also like the egg custard especially when it is piping hot from the oven. I come to this bakery when I'm looking for some authentic Chinese baked goods. Cakes, pastries, and a good selection of savory stuff. Usually, I come here when I need (err... want) the fried crullers (kind of like a fried dough stick, you tiao) to make a special Chinese breakfast at home (fan tuan/rice rolls). But then I end up getting a bunch of other stuff that looks/smells too delicious to pass up and the prices are cheap. This visit, I got a chinese tamale, a few shrimp dumplings, a couple chicken buns, and one sweet bun. Cost? $7.50. You can also get roasted duck, bbq pork, and other items here. I hear tell that they're pretty good and very fairly priced. Yes, the interior looks kind of dingy. But I'll overlook all that for some yummy cheap goodness. This store reminds of the markets in China Town back home in Honolulu. It's small, cramped, and there's cooked dead things hanging on display. I walked in and was teary-eyed from the nostalgia. Or maybe I was teary-eyed from the nasty perfume of one of the customers. Hmmph. I only had the appetite to try a handful of their offerings. I ordered 6 siu mai, 6 har gao, 2 large almond cookies, and 1 slab of rice cake. The total was $11.20 which is damn cheap for the amount of food I got. The siu mai was decent at room tempurature. It probably would've tasted better if I had heated it up. The har gao was okay, but I didn't have any chili oil or hot mustard to eat with it so it was a tad bland. I love the almond cookies. They're the real deal here, not that fake junk you get at chinese buffets. It's almost like the almond cookies we have back home: Big with a nice and sugary crunch. The rice cake aka bok tong go was also delicious and you get a huge slab for really cheap. All in all, I am glad to have found this place and will most definitely be back. read more

At first glance this place is a little dingy and cramped. You wouldn't expect them to turn out good food by glancing at the place but they really do. They always seem to have two or three kids working (legal..?) so I think it's mostly a family run business. I should've known better than to try and find roast pork ON Chinese new year day. Pacific Ocean was closed for the day and the other place I know of isn't done with theirs yet so I figured I'll try my luck at this place. The dim sum actually looked pretty decent but since I'm in a rush, I only bought some BBQ pork, roast pork, and the green onion chicken. I also got some turnip cake and new year cake. All the food was awesome (and cheaper than other places). Only thing is that the green onion sauce was a little too salty. The turnip cake is better than any other ones I've had at the dim sum restaurants. The new year cake tasted awesome after frying it crispy. Overall I loved the place and prices. I dunno, these Denver folks might run away screaming..... :) In all seriousness, this place is a hidden gem. Reminds me of the little shops in "legitimate" China Towns like in Oakland and San Francisco. Everything is crazy cheap and they have a wide variety of savory and sweet items. The egg tarts are great as are the pork buns and shrimp dumplings. They used to have a delicious BBQ pork bun that was made with an extremely flaky pastry that had a very unnatural yellow color, but it was amazing! The last two times I went there they didn't have it though. Don't be put off by the fact that the place is a hole-in-the-wall on Alameda and Federal. I was roaming around the area with my parents and we stumbled across this place and decided to go inside. At first glance at the pastries, I thought they looked really orange. Either way I decided to try to Pineapple custard bun and the layered sponge cake (which I would usually get in California). The sponge cake was layered with a little bit of cream and it was very moist. The cream went well with the moist cake. I'd would come back for this another time if I was in the area. As for the Pineapple custard bun, It was dry and the custard was not very custard like. It looked like medium cooked egg yolk. I do not recommend getting it. Service was also mediocre. read more
