We are from out of town and traveling through, but I'm a brunch fiend so I knew I had to try Cecilia's out. Let me tell you - this place was good enough that it has me considering moving here! The ambiance was great - lightly decorated and giving a "new American" vibe. Our party of four were seated in a timely manner and service was excellent throughout. The booth we were at had a lovely wood tabletop and a view of some artistic windmills out the window. The only downside was that the waiting area was a bit cramped since there were so many people waiting, but that's what you get when a place is so high quality. There were other good aspects like the bathroom was nicely decorated and clean. The prices are pretty average for this type of food, so it's a good value since it tastes incredible. Our first time and it was excellent. We were seated right away and immediately met our server. The coffee was delicious and the menu... so many choices! The entire serving team worked together and our glasses of water and coffee were never empty. My order was Eggs Benedict on roasted vegetables! My spouse had the biscuits and gravy which he said was the best he's had in a very long time. There were families and couples eating and the seating arrangements were well sized and placed. Great vibe, very aesthetically pleasing. Instant seating at the bar for one during Saturday brunch rush, the female bartender was cool. The cold brew coffee hit the spot, very good, not bitter. Lots of yummy menu choices, I opted for the Chicken Fried Steak and was happily sated. A delightful crispness with every bite, while the gravy was excellent! The side salad was more than an afterthought, ample and full of flavor. Lastly, the homemade hot sauce packed some heat. Unfortunately, my order took much longer than the what's considered normal. Had a fantastic breakfast on a Friday morning. I'm off Friday - Sunday and my husband took the day with me. I came across this place on Yelp and I'm not sure how long they've been open - but I'm devastated that I'm only finding them now! I'm a sucker for an aesthetic - and it's such a vibe in here. The bathroom is also beautiful! We sat on the bar side and started with the Mimosa and House Berry Lemonade. The lemonade was deliciousssss. It was our first time here; and they served a complimentary dish: Abuelitas Doughnuts under a berry compote. A first time gift! What a personal touch, and the berry compote was amazing. It brought me back to the boysenberry pie that my grandpa used to make growing up. We had the Chicken Fried Steak and the Eggs Benedict. Premium flavors, premium ingredients! I was curious of this taste based on the fact it partners with other local restaurants. We had family visiting from out of town & was looking for a brunch place for Saturday. When we got there (around 0800) i was worried as they asked if we had reservations. We had a mix of adults and a teenager - 7. Luckily they were able to get us a table (but for future reference i will make sure to get reservations). Our waiter was wonderful - knowledgeable, attentive and quick. The menu was plentiful. Foods pretty good service is slow but satisfactory. We went there twice. The first time we went there with my son, his wife and my grandson we had a good dinner spent $180 seem like a lot for what we got but that's the way it is. The food was good. Came back the next morning for breakfast. I got a cup of coffee next-door I had about an eighth of a cup. I was getting ready to finish it. They called us to sit down. I came in with my cup and was greeted by a woman who said to me we don't allow drinks from outside. I said oh I'm sorry there's hardly anything in it. I just want to finish it. I'm gonna order coffee from you guys anyway she said no you have to throw it out. I said I was just here last night and spent $180 with you. It shouldn't be a big deal. She said no you need to throw it out, so I literally took a big gulp finished it and threw in the trash to prove to her. I threw it out. We won't be coming back and all total. I spent closer to $300 there in two days, I'm that kind of customer if I think food is good I'll come back. We discovered a most wonderful restaurant for dinner yesterday. We shared two appetizers, incredible tenders and delicious carrots. Then I enjoyed the flavorful and rich jambalaya while my wife enjoyed the stealhead chowder. Then to top it all off the amazing little doughnuts with rocotto cheese and raspberry compote. I'm not sure if this is the best way to explain, but there is crab essence in the eggs - like I'm eating eggs straight out of the crab shell. Completely amazing - get this. Chicken and waffles A high quality sweet/savory option that doesn't overwhelm. The breaded chicken is very tender and near crumbly without being dry. The waffles are already made with some sugar so you may not even need the table syrup. Shrimp and Grits Grit consistency is more like polenta than cream of wheat. Super flavorful and just pairs so well with the grilled shrimp (about 6 or so). They clearly know what they're doing here which explains the full crowds and wait. Well worth it! Make sure to come out yourself on the waitlist right away and then go either enjoy a coffee next door or go for small walk to other shops or the area while you wait . Once you get inside the servers were all great and attentive , menu was big enough to offer one of everything even with it being only one page long . Dining here is a gastronomic experience. From the signature cocktails to the amazing entrees, the tastes are just amazing. Last night, my wife has the Alaskan Halibut and I had the Wild Salmon, and we shared bites. We had different veggies and beurre blancs but both were complementary to the fish we each had. Our server was Alyssa and she remembered us from a previous visit. She was perfect and we hope to sit at one pf her tables again. My husband and I absolutely LOVE Cecilia's!!! My favorite dish is their chilaquiles. It's the best I've found in all of Vancouver. I have tried almost every spots chilaquiles and this is hands down the best one. Every other one I've tried is either too salty or not good. Cecilia's is perfect. My friend's eggs Benedict was sadly not good. The eggs were not poached properly, they were hard poached. The house biscuit base was burnt, and the Hollandaise sauce was lumpy, with curds and not hot. The dressing on the greens was too garlicky overpowering the lemon honey dressing. Stay away from this combo. Thankfully, They did take this item off the check Service was very good, they offered something else to make it right. Overall we might come back to give it another try. It may have been rainy and dreary on the outside, but it was Rain-y (our server's name) and delightful on the inside of Cecilia's. I came to meet up with a colleague and steered him this direction rather than a beer and burger joint close by. Boy am I glad I convinced him. The Yelpers said it all, a vibrant, upbeat brunch establishment with a healthy variety of "unhealthy" breakfast indulgence from chicken fried steak, eggs benedict, to chickens and waffles. All of which were done very well and a place I'd be back to for brunch cuisines if places like Screen Door have been visited far too often. They are especially welcoming to new first time guests and it showed... my thanks. My only critique was on this particular morning. I would've liked a water refill without having to ask for it. Lapellah, the suppertime sister of Cecilia, may have been usurped her brunch-based body double with an equally feminine-sounding name, but that's no reason to get all SAAP-y about it: the new lady of the house is just as classy as her sunset sibling. Our Thursday morning visit thankfully required no reservation, and as I was a little apprehensive about our two sons (including a toddler) being a little too rambunctious for such an elegant environment, I was pleasingly reassured by the warm, welcoming (and unflinching) greetings of the staff that guided us to our table. In fact, everyone we interacted with, from the hosts, to our server, to others in passing, was eminently friendly and personable; a credit to the management's eye for discernment and quality talent. The food's not bad, either. In fact, it's excellent. My wife and I split the chilaquiles - the best iteration I've ever had of the dish - as well as an order of Zenner's sausage, a Bloody Mary, an Espresso Martini, and the Mini Standard (eggs, bac'n, 'taters) for the eldest of our two children present; our toddler would share a little of just about everything, as well as a side of avocado. I won't waste too many words on the particular flavors or characteristics of any specific dish, as our individual preferences are as unique and intrinsic to us as our personalities. What I can say is this: Cecilia had some rather large glass slippers to fill, unable to avoid comparison with her erstwhile exemplar; yet she exceeded on all expectations, representing herself with class, style, grace, and yes...really damn delicious food. The dinnertime diva may have been dethroned, but the prima donna of fashionable forenoon foodstuffs is (hopefully) here to stay. A flawless execution worthy of a standing ovation. What an amazing experience! Since we didn't have reservations (and it was full) they offered for us to sit in the communal high top area. It was near the bar. They paid attention to all the details. It decorated beautifully. The server was very friendly and warm. Her name was Jessica. She came to us with a smile and let us know about specials and let us know about recommendations. We decided to go with the chicken and waffles. They were delicious! It was flavorful and the perfect mix of crunchy and light and fluffy. Also, they came by and gave us some freshly cooked donut holes to thank us for visiting. It had a house made blueberry compote. Omg! They are amazing, food, service (thank you Cody!), ambience, everything! This place is in my top 5 for breakfast, not kidding! The biscuits and gravy are out of this world. They grill the biscuits to a nice crisp and the gravy is flavorful with nice chucks of sausage. Steak and eggs were fabulous and the CFS was delicious. The Dutch baby takes some time to make but it's worth the wait. Be sure to get the whip cream and fruit with it. The wait was about 20 mins on Sunday (10 am). read more
