Got flagged by City of San Jose for sidewalk repair. CB was on the list of the suggested vendors and quickly offered up an estimate that was way below the city quote. Could never call CB on the phone (I suppose they are working construction overtime). But convenient communication via e-mail. They were professional, got the work done in the required time frame and it looks great. There was also an unmarked irrigation pipe under the old slab that they found and preserved. Worked out great. Maybe I could have shopped around to get a lower quote but no regrets. Would use them again. read more

Contracted them to fix sidewalk in front of my house. They said that it would be several months before it could be done. About two months later, out of the blue and without any notice, I look out my window and see them tearing up the sidewalk. Then it sat unfinished for two weeks due to rain. At that point I was going to be out of town for Christmas so I gave them a check for the work with a promise that it would not be cashed until after the work was completed and approved. That promise was broken; they cashed it immediately. A few weeks after finishing the job my gardener discovers that they've cut a sprinkler pipe that runs under the sidewalk. To avoid another major water bill I had my gardener make an emergency repair. CB refused to cover the cost. Their excuse was that I should have had them come to fix the pipe but given my prior experience that was going to take months and was unlikely to be done correctly. CB Concrete replaced about 8 feet of sidewalk that had been lifted by the roots of an adjacent tree on my lawn. I purchased a 24" deep sidewalk root barrier and asked that it be installed when the concrete was poured. CB said sure but it would be an extra $105 to do it and I agreed. All was well until I decided to double up the the barrier and had to dig out the dirt behind the new barrier. Found that CB had cut out half the depth of the barrier before installing it - from 24" to about 13"!! I'm pissed. The price of 24" barrier was more than double a 12" barrier so it cost me even more. - Moral of the story is to be on-site and watch the crews do the work that you contracted for. i won't be using CB Concrete in the future. read more

This company is very weird! My house was marked to re-do the sidewalk by city. This company (CB) somehow knew and left a written proposal quote at my house without my request them to come to quote. But after looking at the quote details, I agreed at the price and signed a contract mailed to them. And I made phone calls to CB many times, Nobody Answer! Then I sent an email to ask more details next steps of process to perform to complete the job, No Respond! I kept waiting, waiting, and waiting...No communication from CB neither by phone, email, nor letter at all. So, I did not know if CB would accepted my proposal contract or not. If CB accepted, I would like to know when the cement job would start and when it's finished. I had no idea at all. I thought this company is a JOKE! But suddenly, 2 months later they came to my house and began to do the job without my letting me know in advance at all! About the work performance, CB has 2 groups: -- First group: is responsible of destroying and removing old concrete. This group has heavy machines to remove old cement quickly in half an hour BUT they did not remove any of messy roots from tree underneath of cement concrete at all. I was so mad as I saw that. So, I had to cut them off myself when I got home from work. This group is BAD! --Second group: is responsible of pouring new cement. This group is perfect to me. They performed the job very well, clean, and professional. This work well done. I would give high credit on this group! About a staff, his name is Chris, he said he is the owner, called me finally on the morning before new cement pouring down asking me to give him to pay him a check right away before cement pouring down. At that moment I was at work, I had to go back home to write a check to him. He was so hassle! did not tell me what dates the job will begin and finish, he did whatever he wanted without letting customers know in advance. This is bad company to me. Hired them to replace a concrete slab for my walk way after a plumbing company replaced the sewer line. The concrete they put down was a completely different color, they had a bunch of spillage over the forms, when they removed the forms they left all the excess Concrete there, they guy that smelled like he had smoked marijuana threw all the extra concrete rocks behind my bushes, and not only that but they washed there equipment out in my grass area on the side of my house and the chemicals in the concrete killed my lawn. When I had another company come out they were half the price and it looked good. Would not recommend these half a**ed scammers to anybody. 0 stars if i could. read more

Four of us on the block were tagged by the city for sidewalk work. We contacted three firms on the city's list, but liked the immediate response, price, and attention by CB the best. I also decided to have them redo my driveway at the same time. We had multiple delays due to weather, but CB worked with the city to get us appropriate extensions. When it was done, they worked with the city for inspections. Everyone was pleased except me ... my driveway looked full of splotches. I waited a significant amount of time for it to dry/cure (basically thinking the splotches would disappear during the summer heat). When it still looked bad, I contacted the company with my issue. Within a day or two, the owner came out, inspected it, agreed, and sent a crew to handle it. Within 10 days of my complaint, the correction was done and it looked as it should. Another week later, the owner stopped by again to check on the work. I consider this great, over-and-above customer satisfaction. I just wish all the vendors who did work on my house would provide this quality of work, efficiency and attention! read more

CB does a great job repairing sidewalks, so I recommend them for that skill. However, they get low marks for their communications skills. They gave me a bid to replace 2 squares of my sidewalk, add a side yard walkway, and a fountain foundation in mid-May. The job was to be completed in 2-3 weeks, so I sent in my deposit immediately. 4 weeks later I called them - several times - and finally found out that they were not going to be to my home for several more weeks. More delays followed until they finally called to get things moving. The job was finally completed 7/19/20 and the owner showed up the next day to collect his check. I asked him when I would receive the finaled permits and he said they weren't needed because it was just "flat work". Saturday, 7/25 I received a letter from the City telling me that I owed them $100 for permits. Today, no one answered the phone at CB, but the estimator returned my text saying that I must have misunderstood ... A solid meh. We had CB Concrete do a pool deck, driveway, front walkway, and sidewalk in front of the house. On the plus side, Chris has good design sense, the guys show up on time, and the work gets done in a timely manner. On the minus side, quality is, well... let's just say when the vendor says they do a lot of work for the city - he mentioned Los Gatos specifically - it doesn't mean they're good, just that they're low-bid. We had issues with water pooling, and inconsistent color, plus myriad cracking. And this is the first time my power-wash outfit, whom I've used for years at multiple properties, damaged the concrete. Don't know why it's not as hardy as other concrete surfaces at my other properties, but it isn't. Would not use them again. read more

Each has a very long 1-2 months lead-time before they could start work. We picked CB Concrete because they were among those on the city approved list. CB Concrete just completed a full re-landscape of my front yard in Los Gatos and they did a fantastic job! Many neighbors have commented how beautiful the new yard is. It was designed as a safe "dog Park" for my dog's many playmates. They replaced my driveway with beautiful pavers, and created a new curved walkway up to my new, enlarged porch all covered in flagstone. They created two large mounds on either side of the new lawn, and installed trees, plants and ground-cover. Chris, the owner, designed a beautiful flagstone bench for my friends to sit and watch the dogs play. They added outdoor spotlights on the trees and rocks. They also built a custom see-through fence around the yard of redwood and heavy wire, as well as a new side fence. They installed a concrete fountain too. They pay close attention to details. Chris, the owner, came every day to check on the job. He has a great design eye, and can look at the outlines of a section about to be installed, and immediately see if something is off. He made frequent adjustments as the project moved along, and included me in these decisions. I added a number of things after we started, and Chris was very flexible in accommodating me. My project was broken down into two billing processes, one for the demo and hardscape parts of the project, and one for the landscape which is done on a time and materials basis. The crew arrived on time each day very organized, ready to get to work, and all were polite and respectful. I am very happy with the results! read more

Went with CB as a section of our sidewalk was tagged by San Jose City due to tree roots shifting the sidewalk. Getting a quote was great, just sent in a scan of city citation and quote came back in 24 hours and was a LOT cheaper than the city doing the work. They are busy so it took over a month to get work started. Communication isn't great, we didn't know when they were starting they just turned up one day. Sadly they damaged our hardscaping and irrigation. They offered to fix but our landscapers ended up doing it as they repair they completed didn't work - cost us $350 to repair the irrigation. CB quickly addressed this and dropped us off a check to cover this which was great. We are still sourcing the tile for the hardscaping repair, which CB said they will address when we have it available. again great response to the issue. Sadly they didn't do anything to get the city to come out to inspect, we got first, second, and final notices, i send both 2nd and final to owner and he told me he lost a member of staff....could i contact the city. Sure no issue but they promised us they would be handling this. The finished work isn't great with the replacement concrete not very smooth (see photos). They were great in getting back to us on the issues but wish we didn't have the issues in the first place and now we are handling the permit process ourselves unexpectedly and now on a final notice. read more

Like many, we were asked by the city to redo our sidewalk due to tree roots. We found CBs pricing to be competitive and their yelp reviews were pretty good so I decided to proceed with them. When we sent in the contract, I received a phone call verifying they would do the job. I was told that they are busy with jobs and it would be around 6-8 weeks before they could get to my house. Around 8 weeks, I did not hear from them, so I had to email them to find out the status. I was told that they would be there in a few weeks. Again, no communication until I emailed to find out the exact week they would start. They also said they would process the city extension request which Im glad was done, but I never received firm confirmation from CB that this was done so I had to initiate an email to find out that status. When CB did the siidewalk repair, they were very quick, it was completed within a week and it aesthetically looked good and I was satisfied. About a month after, I noticed that my plants started dying off in one section of my front yard. I had my landscaper come out, they confirmed the valve was working but there may be a leak underground, wanted to charge me a few hundred dollars to reroute the lines. I spent weeks trouble shooting to find the source of the problem. I finally hooked up a hose to the section that was not working and discovered water leaking out from the sidewalk edge. After digging in the area, I found 2-3 pieces of pipe at least 3-4 inches long. I called CB to notify them, the front office person told me they have a "team" that takes care of it and that the owner would contact me. I gave it a few days- no contact. Then I emailed the owner actual pictures of the broken pipe and he responded with 1 sentence saying that someone would be out that afternoon and a short "sorry". No one showed up that day. The next day I called the office and reached the owner. He was very short with me and defensive immediately saying " This happens every day" and " Im fixing it for free". When I tried to explain to him that I understand this is a normal complication of this process, it is not acceptable that his crew did not tell me about the broken pipe. It was not acceptable. Then he claimed that sometimes, they grind up pipe without being aware and said " You don't know what you don't know", which I felt was quite a rude response. I do have to say that the owner had someone come out within the next hour or so and the crew fixed my broken sprinkler line efficiently BUT when they dug up the line, it was obvious that the broken pipe line was CAPPED OFF, which means the crew DID know that they broke a pipe and did not communicate that to me. I am very aware that complications can happen with these projects but I am frustrated that we were not notified that a pipe was broken. I wasted endless hours trying to figure out what was wrong with my sprinkler system and for the owner to act like it was no big deal and that it was just an accident was unacceptable. read more
