I contacted Hernandez concrete to re-do my 3-car large driveway in Milpitas. Andres came the next day after my call to give me a quote, the price was very reasonable and he and was able to schedule me within just 3 weeks later, weather permitting. He and his crew did a fantastic job for a quick demolition, setting up the rebars, raising the PG&E box, making new trench for the drain pipe of the gutters, as well as preparing for a small retaining wall on the side... On the concrete day, he came with a crew of over 10 people, 3 concrete trucks came early and they were all able to get it done in just 5 hours. We received a letter from the City of San Jose requiring us to replace a long stretch of our sidewalk due to tree root growth that had made it uneven. Hernandez concrete was quick to communicate and very thorough in their responses to our questions. They followed all of the city requirements and had the project done in less than 4-days including demolition, cutting out the roots and pouring a new sidewalk. I was referred to Hernandez Concrete by a neighbor several streets over in my neighborhood. When I saw his driveway and front walk/porch, I had to find out who had done the work. His had inlayed brick banding around the perimeter and through the middle, as well as two brick pillers at the sidewalk on either side of a walkway to the front porch which also had inlayed brick in a herringbone pattern. Absolutely gorgeous. So I knocked on his door as a complete stranger, to ask who the contractor was. And I walked away with the number for Hernandez Concrete... After getting two other bids, Hernandez Concrete was the lowest. And having already seen their work in person, I had no reservations about using them to do my work. So I hired them to do my driveway and walkway, also with inlayed brick borders, and couldn't be happier with the results. They did a salt finish concrete for me, with brick stripes and a full brick border around the edges. And it turned out fantastic. They also saved me a lot of money by cutting all the bricks in half. The job required about 1400 bricks, but I only had to buy 700! At $1.55 per brick, this amounted to a big savings. They used the standard 2-3" of gravel base (my old driveway had none) and put in a grid of rebar at about 18" on center that was propped up with little cement blocks to stay centered inside the concrete. They also installed drainage lines from two downspouts on either side of the driveway, without asking for anything extra. The prep work took one day, the brick work took about two days, and the actual pour and finish about half a day. They set the bricks first, and then poured the concrete around the bricks on the final day. In the end, I was so happy with the work, with their attitude and willingness to go above and beyond, that I ended rounding up their bid to the nearest thousand. This is probably the only time I've ever paid a contractor more than the bid price by choice! Hernandez Concrete is a small family operation. Maria is the owner, and her husband Rodrigo (or just "Rigo") does the majority of the work. If anyone would like to see pictures of the finished product, simply email me and I'd be glad to provide them. I've also seen stamped work they've done, as well as brick and cultured stone veneer work, and in each case it has been top notch. Rigo put down concrete at the side of my house. Price was reasonable, they did a great job and completed it in exactly the amount of time they said it would take. The only downside was that it took me several weeks to secure a time when they would come. Rigo's wife was really responsive, but she kept saying she was checking. Finally was able to nail down a time after going back and forth for two weeks. Rigo was really nice and his crew worked pretty hard. Appreciate the great job they did. read more

Rigo and his co-worker, Jose, just completed a retaining wall between my and my neighbor's properties. This involved removing a portion of a 6' fence, demolition and removal of the old concrete retaining wall, extensive excavation, installation of rebar, forms and drainage, finishing the cured concrete and reinstallation of the fence. The work was accomplished per the engineering plans and in accordance with Belmont city requirements. The entire job was accomplished in four days, and with absolutely terrific workmanship. I received a notice from the City of San Jose that I had to remove and replace the sidewalk and parkstrip in front of my house and the part of my driveway that the city regulates. Ugh!!! I received a recommendation from my neighbor across the street for Rigo and his company Hernandez Concrete. I also had a recommendation from another neighbor who uses Rigo for home construction work. Both neighbors highly recommended Rigo and his men because they were reliable and I could depend on them doing the work exactly according to the city's specifications. Rigo came out and gave me a bid which of course I thought I could beat by calling some other company. That may have been possible--if the companies had ever showed up just to do the bid!!! I called Rigo back and spoke with Maria and made arrangements for Rigo and his men to come out and do the work. It only took me a few hours to understand why the costs of doing the work are what they are. Back-breaking, heavy-lifiting, sweating, hard, hard, hard work. Rigo and his men all worked so hard to pull up the sidewalk, parkstrip, and my driveway. Since I was having so much concrete work done, I decided to have the entire driveway replaced too. Little did I know that digging the roots out from the big tree in front of my house (planted by the city in their infinite wisdom, and the cause of the sidewalk and parkstrip lifting and breaking up in the first place) would involve hours and hours of work by Hernandez Concrete.
