I introduced my Mom to Cava when the Ramsey location opened, which was a big risk. I once took her to a Moe's Southwest Grill, and, if you were raised by 60 year old woman who grew up eating meatloaf five days a week, you might understand why this was a mistake. She took one look at all of the ingredients and said, "just get me what you get" and I said "what?" and she said "I don't know how to order here" and I said "you just tell them what you want" and she said "just get me what you get" and I said "I don't know what you want. Do you like mushrooms?" and she said "I guess I just won't eat." The kind worker at that Moe's coached her through her order and talked her out of her Tex Mex panic attack. Anyway, Cava is like Mediterranean Moe's, so I was fearful that taking her here would institutionalize her. Thankfully, her therapist apparently worked her through her issue with these assembly line fast casual restaurants, and she handled her first experience like a champ. She and her husband now go there once every week or two. Cava is great, and the Ramsey location has been no exception. Granted, I tend to order their curated bowls exactly as they are (what hubris would it require for me to think I know better than the chefs at Cava Corporate?). I'm not sure if the custom orders have more frequent errors, but even if the fine people at Ramsey Cava forgot my Kalamata olives, there are worse things happening in the world (probably. As Mediterranean food goes, this was quite disappointing. I didn't know it could get that bad. First of all, it was way too sour, second pita bread was deep-fried to the point of being burnt, third while the ingredients were fresh they lacked flavor. The chicken was bland -- we tried three different ones. Portions were small and relatively expensive. The fountain drink quality was very poor and tasted awful. The side dips were given out in very small quantities but the side order of those dips were small and expensive like hummus, tzatziki, and babaganouh! Ambiance was dirty even for a fast food place with uncleaned table tops -- we had to clean it ourselves -- and dirty floors. Service was confusing and clumsy and they didn't even have trays for dine in customers to carry their food to the tables! Mamoud's is far better for fast Mediterranean and Dayi'nin Yeri in Cliffside Park is the best I've had in NJ! I was disappointed in Cava and not an experience we'd care to repeat! read more

They can't read simple notes on an Uber eats order. I said include utensils and it's on the receipt, I didn't receive any utensils or napkins. I also asked for no cucumbers and pita crisps on my bowl, they didn't do that either. What a joke. I was excited to see Cava open as I sometimes go to one in the City. I walked in and there were 7 people behind the counter. There were no other customers in the entire restaurant but me. I stood there waiting for someone to take my order but the staff were busy talking to each other. No one took the initiative to greet me or acknowledge that I walked in. I know they're new but if they're going to make it they need to do a better job of creating a hospitable environment. Restaurants are a vital element of the hospitality industry. That means staff need to understand that their jobs are not just about scooping food into containers. Finally someone took my order, while apologizing that they were short staffed. I made half a joke saying there were many more employees than customers in the restaurant. And being that I was the only customer, they actually were way over staffed. Yes, it's a quick serve restaurant along the model of a Chipotle where you go along the line picking the ingredients you want. You can also order one of the 'pre-set' wraps and bowls, but I think it is more fun to customize. The food is tasty, the staff is great, and this is a great option when you're looking for a mediterranean quick fix. The location in Ramsey is clean and spacious. There is a vestibule to protect from diners who eat in to cold blowing winds which was much appreciated on a recent visit! There are beverages in a case right before you start an order, but there are also fountain options (teas, lemonades, sodas) - just order that at the end when you pay and you'll get a cup. I opted for a bowl. My base was greens and grain - I selected romaine lettuce and lentils. Then it's off to dips (various varieties of hummus including eggplant and a feta mix. On my last trip I stuck with plain hummus. You can select up to three scoops in any configuration you would like. Next up is protein. Options include meat and veg so everyone in your party should find something to their liking. I generally choose falafel. You can mix and match proteins up to two. After that you there are toppings: tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, onions, pickled onions, kalamata olives, and more! You can select as many of these as you want - and the staff is VERY generous with the amounts. And then the dressings! Tons of variety here. I ALWAYS get these on the side. I used to get a preserved lemon vinaigrette but this isn't on the menu anymore. Last time I chose a date lemon vinaigrette. Great choice. Finally you're done! And now you have a GIGANTIC bowl of food. I kept eating and eating and I wasn't making a dent. Leftovers (another good reason to keep the dressing on the side) make a perfect meal the next day. I haven't had a wrap - but they're pretty big too! A little on the pricey side - but when I consider mine was two meals, it's not so bad. read more

Gave this place multiple chances. The first try was the best and the last 3 times I have picked my orders up there was something always missing each time. But the this last time the food was just unacceptable the lentil were close to raw as you can get like eating little rocks. Tried calling over the phone just keep getting the voicemail then finally get through but then I'm placed on hold for over 10 minutes finally just drove back for a refund only to be told I would have to email them for a refund.
