The location is excellent and popular with the UNC Chapel Hill students. My wife and I frequent it regularly. But today it is the third time many of the lentils were uncooked and extremely hard. The previous two times we took it as accidental, but the third time? I reported to one of the servers and heard nothing back. All he said was he let the others know already and didn't even come back to tell us why it happened and didn't offer his apologies. The lentils were so hard they almost cracked our teeth and took out one of my fillings! I hope they check their cooking and be more responsive to customer complaints! read more

This location used to be one of my favorite places for lunch in Chapel Hill. The managers were always friendly and the food and service were great. Now the the staff couldn't care less. The portions, especially children are less than half of what they used to be. You ask for corn, they put 1 tablespoon on you bowl and give you a blank stare. This place was a much needed Mediterranean, healthy make-your-own-bowl addition to Chapel Hill! I fell in love with Cava when visiting DC and was so stoked when this spot opened in Chapel Hill last year! Everything is fresh made and delicious! Also, the bowls are HUGE. I've usually had enough left over for a snack later! They have delicious vegetarian options including the fantastic falafel! You can pick from your choice of sauces and toppings as well which is always a struggle for me since there are too many good options. Stop in here for a delicious, healthy meal! read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I frequent this location and never thought I'd have an issue such as the one I had today(around 5pm EST). I believed I was overcharged for my food. I ordered a bowl with half steak, half roasted vegetables, and a whole serving of chicken. However, it was never communicated to me that the steak is a premium protein and would cost an additional $3 until after I paid. I attempted to explain the extra charge to multiple employees, that the steak costing extra was never disclosed (much like they do when you add avocado), and they all tried to justify the up-charge. I then requested a refund and the "Store Manager" refused me of my refund. I requested his name (Latino Guy, maybe late 30s-40s.), and he said he couldn't give it to me, despite EVERYONE else wearing name tags on their shirts and/or hats. As he proceeds to rudely have a conversation in Spanish with his General Manager, as if everyone doesn't speak Spanish these days, and I said I'd dispute the transaction with my bank, it wasn't until then he said he could refund me. I didn't care about the $3. My issue is with the lack of communication, the unprofessionalism, the dismissive behavior, the lying, the lack of accountability, etc. I can go on! You would have received a zero star rating if that was an option. I'm extremely disappointed with the customer service at the Chapel Hill location. We contacted this location weeks ago to obtain details about menu and catering options for our December staff meeting. We were told we could get the order delivered if we ordered through the normal menu. We were told to call a week before to confirm and get details on sending in our order. We gathered orders from our staff 2 weeks ago, there are only 17 members, and call today as instructed to confirm all the details. We spoke with Alexa, who stated she was the manager, and asked what would be the best way to get the order detail in so that we could get delivery. She stated that we would need to go through a third party vendor for the delivery option, which we stated was not a problem. She then asked how many orders we would be placing and on what date. I gave her the requested information and then she told me they would not accept that many orders on that day because they were short staffed. I told her we had already been told this was going to be acceptable but that they just asked us to call a week before to confirm (which we were doing). I asked what could be done to accommodate our order, I suggested sending the order in the day before or immediately when they open to give them more prep time and also suggested they put more staff on since they have notice. She told me they had to look out for their staff and that meant they would not be accepting our orders. She then expressed, very rudely and sarcastically, good luck finding someone to handle our lunch needs next week. As someone who was in the service industry for over 30 years, I can only assume that the Chapel Hill location is making so much money that they don't need to obtain or keep current customers. I can assure you that I will no longer frequent that establishment and I will place this negative review on multiple forums so that others will be weary. read more

I stopped in at Cava Chapel Hill, not really knowing what to expect. I have to admit Cava wasn't my first choice, but I couldn't find any parking at Merrit's during peak BLT season, so Cava it was! As many other reviews mention this is the same concept as Chipotle/Subway/Poke, but for Mediterranean food. I chose a pita bread as my base and had my spread be the tzatziki sauce. I had it filled with the braised lamb, and added tomatoes and onions, lettuce, and feta cheese. Sounds delicious right? Well, it was! The braised lamb had a spicy kick to it and was a little different tasting than say beef (which I didn't mind) and the other ingredients were fresh and delicious as well. I also liked my drink which was very unique, a watermelon and mint mixture. My first visit to a Cava fast-casual restaurant (a national chain) won't be my last. read more

I took a chance tonight because my friend speaks highly of this place and l was really hungry. This place is different, the young lady that help put my bowl together was so helpful. Typically l get the stink eye because l asked a lot of questions about the food, but she was patient and explained everything to me and gave me a rundown on the food l should and should not eat. Think of chipotle but classier and much much much better! You get to essentially put whatever you want in your bowl or pita! I had a bowl: half grains and half greens, with the braised lamb (omg so good) I also tried the lamb meatballs, very good. You get to add 3 flavors to your bowl (harissa, baba Ghanouch, hummus, taziki, etc) then you get to add veggies and quinoa, and last you get to add sauces. Very fulfilling. Obsessed! Wow a fantastic and incredibly well executed concept. Start with your base like rice or lentils; I'm partial to the brown rice because it makes me feel healthier but doesn't seem to sacrifice anything in flavor. They will then ask if you want a mini pita with your bowl; I assumed at first it was an extra charge but it's not, so don't skip out on this. Next you get three scoops of dips like hummus or tzatziki. My favorite is probably the crazy feta which is like an intensely feta-infused hummus. There is an eggplant red pepper which is good but a tad sweeter than ideal for me. Next is the real star, the proteins. Every one I have tried has been absolutely fantastic. If you like lamb, the lamb meatballs and the braised lamb both blew me away. But if you don't want to pay the extra $1.50, there are plenty of excellent alternatives. The beef meatballs are well-seasoned, cooked to a nice medium/medium-rare (hopefully on purpose). The falafel has good moisture and a nice wollop of seasoning to pack extra flavor. Add your toppings; a good array of mediterranean inspired accoutrements like cherry tomatoes, cous cous, olives. And finally, finish it with a dressing. Many of them sound yummy but after having the tahini lemon basil, I don't want to order anything else. It's that good. They have other interesting touches that may appeal to some people more than others, like eco friendly utensils, fancy sodas that use real sugar only, and an array of interesting drinks like a blueberry lavender. Prices are very reasonable for the amount and quality. A standard bowl is about $10 including tax. The fancy proteins will push you to $12. If I lived nearby, I would almost certainly be here 2-3 times per week. Hope this is the start to an expanded presence in the triangle. read more

This was our first time having Cava but it won't be our last because we really enjoyed the quality of the food plus they lived up to the promise of GOOD VIBES. GOOD FLAVOR. I had no problem finding CAVA or parking in the lot even though it is,next to Whole Foods. They officially open to the public on Thursday, Nov 8, 2018 and are serving "Mediterranean-inspired bowls, salads, and pitas with locally sourced ingredients, a fistful of spice, and zero apologies." The staff was friendly and all were excited to serve the lunch crowd. While in line, I took a look at the menu that I grabbed at the front door. I got my stategy and was rrady to build my bowl. Step 1- start with a base of greens or grains or combo of greens and grains. You can also choose a pita. Step 2- choose up to three dips and spreads and feel free to ask for a taste if you can not decide. I got tzatziki and hummus. Both were good. Step 3- pick a protein. I am a lamb lover and choosr braised lamb. My husband got chicken. Both tender and flavorful. We sampled tje lamb meatballs which would be my future choice. It had a nice spice too it but not overpowering. Step 4- AS. MANY. TOPPINGS. AS. YOU. LIKE omg..I went crazy and got almost everything..lol..tomato,cucumber, onion,olives,feta with a banana pepper on top! Step 5- Dressings. I opted to get mine on side but top it all off witg a greel vinaigrette, lemon herb tahini or my favr of the day : yogurt dill Parents, they offer a healthy kids meal for ages 10 and younger for $5.95. I definitely have to come back with my little one to try it. If you have food allergies, let the staff know. They do not use peanuts, tree nuts ot any other nuts in the food. So good!! I was super excited to try this place because I love Mediterranean and had heard good things. The best way to envision Cava's concept is a Mediterranean Chipotle. You walk up to the counter and they make your dish in front of you with a ton of options to choose from. I got a greens and grain bowl (super greens and black lentils) with grilled chicken and a bunch of yummy toppings (pickled onion, cucumber, tomato, roasted red pepper hummus, eggplant and red pepper spread), topped with the date vinegarette. It was beyond delicious! Highly recommend, even though it was a little more expensive than, say, Chipotle it delivered in flavor and tasted so fresh! read more

Man oh man do I love CAVA. There's something about this place that's addicting. Maybe it's their fresh pita bread or their tasty variety of fruit juices. It's so dang good. I didn't know what to except but other yelpers are right, it is just like Chipotle only way better. You have lots of options to choose from. Either a salad bowl, salad and grain bowl, grain bowl, or a pita sandwich. Lots of different lettuces to choose from. As for grains- brown and white rice or lentils. From there, you pick different spreads and toppings! Each of them are absolutely delicious. It's fresh, healthy, and yummy. What more could you ask for? The proportions are large and the price is under $10 for one dish which is very appropriate. I go often and find myself always switching things up but every time it remains delicious. Cava is good, essentially the Chipotle version of Mediterranean food. It hits the spot when you're looking for a flavor packed, texture filled, healthy dinner. I like the greens and grains bowl with chicken and meatballs. You can get more than one type of protein in your bowl for the same price! I tried the supergreens and brown rice and thought it was a great combo. I recommend that you don't go too crazy with the dips and spreads - if you're going to do all three, get basic flavors that go well together. I got hummus, crazy feta, and tzatziki. The harissa is pretty spicy, be warned! The pita bread is nice to snack on the side. I like getting all the vegetable toppings and find that you don't need any sauces at the end - but it's fun getting one or two on the side to try.
