I love Mediterranean food so when I saw this place, we had to go inside and try it. I didn't realize it closed at 2:30pm until we spoke to the owner. It is a family owned restaurant, which I love. She politely said we could still order and eat inside. It was 2:00pm. We were the only ones inside the restaurant. It is decorated with items from Egypt. Paintings of pharaohs and pyramids. A few people came in to grab their to go orders. She explained that since the pandemic, they do more take out than dine in. We tried the hummus and pita, which was delicious. She mentioned their falafel was one of their best items, so I had to try it. It came with four pieces. They were piping hot and so good. I dipped them in the hummus. I also ordered the chicken kabab (marinated chicken with peppers, onions, and tomatoes over their homemade rice. I asked for no tomatoes and the beef shawarma plate with a Greek salad and tahini sauce. The food was good. I loved the Greek salad with big chunks of tomatoes. The chicken kabab (which she did explain did not come in a skewer) was a bit dry. I dipped it in the hummus. It lacked a bit of presentation. Something that took me by surprise was that we were given our food on paper plates, with paper cups and plastic forks, even though we were eating inside the restaurant. Not sure if it's the same for all lunch and/or dinner. The owner is very nice and I truly appreciated her letting us eat there even though it was close to closing hour. I've seen Pita Grill for years but never went in until about a year ago. Since then, this has become a staple of our take out restaurants in Chapel Hill. It's sort of no-frills but excellent food and preparation. The employees are always very friendly with us, and they've never gotten an order wrong (knock on wood!). We haven't dined in, but at first glance it doesn't seem like a fine dining establishment for date night. But it's excellent for a quick meal or delivery. read more

We were in Chapel Hill in September for a family wedding and stayed on Weaver Dairy Rd. during our trip. On the first night, we made a beeline for hushpups and q, but on the second night, we wanted healthier fare. Yelp led us just down the street to the wonderful Pita Grill, where we had the first of 3 dinners during our week in NC, because it was just that good! The first night, it was just hubby and me and we had the chicken schwarma and kofta. Both were moist, generous in serving size, and flavorful. I loved that the chef is not afraid of using herbs and spices! The next meal was with our son and his gf who are vegetarian. They loved the Mediterranean platter, while we had the souvlaki platter and the gyro platter. Again, generous servings, fresh, and full of flavor. The third night we dined at the Pita Grill, we treated my 93-year old mother who had not had Greek/Mediterranean food in at least 20 years. Of course, she fell in love, as we all had, with the soft, spongy, warm pita bread they serve. And being a lamb lover, she dove into the gyro platter with gusto and abandon! I can't say enough good things about the owner (I assumed), who was also our server on all three times we dined there. She was humble and kind and incredibly attentive to us. I was also happy to see they seemed to have a steady stream of take-out orders when we were there, which gave me hope that they they will be there when we are back in NC again. My family is definitely looking forward to returning to the Pita Grill, when we are back in Chapel Hill. If we lived there, we would be regular take-out customers. read more

Pita Grill was a great find thanks to Yelp. This is a humble mom-and-pop, family-owned-and-operated Mediterranean restaurant located in Timberlyne Village (Food Lion shopping center) near I-40 exit 266 (NC highway 86). My wife and I ordered several items and enjoyed everything. Not only was the food good, but the service was excellent. The mom/wife/owner of the restaurant was really friendly, the small staff of three worked very efficiently, and our order was ready in a snap. If you like Mediterranean food, I recommend this place. Their pita is actually the best I've tried in the Triangle to date. I think it's even better than Med Deli's pita. We ordered from the Dinner Entrees section of the menu. Here's what we got (descriptions from menu): * Gyro Platter ($14.25) - Greek salad, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, Kalamata olives, green pepper, feta, pita, and tzatziki * Kofta Kabob ($14.25) - marinated ground beef with grilled onions, bell pepper, and tomato over special homemade rice * Chicken Shawarma Plate ($13.75) - chicken shawarma served with Greek salad and tahini * Baba Ghanoush side, with pita (8 ounces for $5.50) * Rice Pudding dessert ($3.25) Everything was delicious. If I had to be critical, I liked the Chicken Shawarma the least because the chunks of chicken were a little dry. However, it wasn't anything the side of tahini couldn't fix. The tahini was a must. The Gyro wasn't the freshest, as in it didn't taste fresh off the spit. Instead, it was a little bit harder and crispier than the gyro I prefer, but that was OK. I still thought it was tasty and scrumptious, and nothing out of the ordinary. It was hard to find much wrong with any of the other dishes. I do recommend everything we had above except for perhaps the Chicken Shawarma, if you're picky about your shawarma. My wife liked it more than me, so maybe it's better than I'm making it out to be. One thing I loved about this place was the portion size of the Greek salad that was served with both the Gyro Platter and the Chicken Shawarma Plate. I love salads and Pita Grill served satisfyingly large portions of salad. It was great. The Greek salads were fresh, crisp, and flavorful. The Greek salad dressing was on point. I've eaten a lot of Kofta at various Mediterranean restaurants over the years. It's one of my most commonly-ordered items at Mediterranean restaurants because I like the taste and texture of kofta, which are similar to savory meatballs and hamburger. Pita Grill's Kofta entree came with four large pieces of Kofta. Each piece was a little bigger than about the size of a golf ball. The texture of the Kofta threw me off at first because it was a bit softer and looser - fell apart easier - than most other Kofta I've had. It still tasted yummy, though, spiced well and packed with flavor. My wife and I really liked the "special homemade" rice that came with the Kofta. Relatively large grains, fluffy, and flavorful. Buttery too. The cooked veggies - onion, bell pepper, tomato - were relatively "substantial" in size. For example, bold, juicy chunks of tomato. One thing the menu didn't mention was the side of macaroni salad that was included with both the Gyro Platter and Chicken Shawarma Plate. The macaroni salad came with carrot, celery, red onion, and seasoning. All veggies in the Greek salads, macaroni salads, and the cooked veggies that came with the Kofta were fresh, ripe, and hand-chopped. The macaroni salads were a wonderful unexpected bonus. The Baba Ghanoush tasted terrific and the portion size was plentiful. In my experience, most Mediterranean restaurants don't serve Baba Ghanoush in as generous of portions as Pita Grill's. If you like Baba Ghanoush, I don't think you'll be disappointed with Pita Grill's version. As for the pita, it was pretty much perfect. Fresh, warm, soft, springy, and pillowy with just the right texture, inside and out. A lot of Mediterranean restaurants can serve plain, hard, cold/room temp, and bland pita. Pita Grill serves the opposite. They back their name up. There are multiple restaurants with "Pita" in the name that I've had sad or average-at-best pita. Not here. Do get the Rice Pudding dessert. I suggest ordering one rice pudding per person. It's outstanding. It's cold and sweet with vanilla and cinnamon flavors. Smooth, creamy, and delectable. Pita Grill's other dessert option is Baklava (same price, $3.25 each). The restaurant also offers entree-sized salads, other plates and platters such as Chicken Kabob ($13.25), Chicken Souvlaki ($13.75), and Spanakopita ($13.50), plus pita wraps (expect to spend around $12 each for those), and soup. During our visit, the soup of the day was Lentil Soup ($7.50). Pita Grill's food travels well and is great for takeout. The restaurant isn't big, but it's not tiny either. They don't have a dedicated patio, but there are two covered, communal tables nearby outside that I believe belong to the shopping center. Pita Grill opened in August 2013. read more

Mmmmm so good. Took my son for a late birthday meal and we both had gyro platters, and we sampled Spanakopita and a side of falafel with tahini dip. The gyro meat was crispy but not dry, the falafel & tahini a unique mix of spices & moist, and not greasy or heavy. And the (owner?) was super-sweet & personable... chatting with us. Mediterranean is always a mixed bag and could be anything from Greek to the eastern shores of Africa but some of the staples are always available. Pita Grill was a convenient stop when leaving Chapel Hill headed back to the interstate and I was craving something a little different than the standard American fare. I had the gyro platter with a side of falafel and was very happy with the portion size, speed of preparation, and the courtesy of the staff. The only thing preventing the fifth star was due to some dryness in the meat and the Tzatziki sauce could have used some more.. zing, punch, depth... I'm not sure, as I've never personally made it but, when compared to the plethora of other Mediterranean places I've tried; this one lacked flavor and depth. The falafels were tasty, had a pretty good dipping sauce, and were of a good portion size. Being unfamiliar with the restaurant's offerings as this was my first visit; I think they would go really well with a spicy/hot sauce in addition to the standard dipping sauce. All in all; I'll most likely return and try a few of their other offerings and inquire if maybe my meal was just a one-off due to the situation surrounding this "new normal" to which we continue to adapt. read more

I first discovered Pita Grill on my quest to find a tasty chicken caesar wrap near me. After trying Pita Grill's version for the first time, I quickly became a regular. The secret lies in their chicken. It's AMAZING. Whether it be on their chicken caesar wrap, their chicken caesar salad, or their greek wrap, it's always delicious. Their wraps come with a side of fries too, which are less impressive but still decent. I'm pretty sure they were just frozen, but I don't come here for the fries so I don't really mind. I'm rarely over in this area, so I thought I'd try out something new. I liked it. There is little atmosphere in there, but as long as the food is good ... which it was. It's owned by a family and I love to see that. They have a good variety of food and it ranges from $3 to $13. I ordered the chicken shawarma wrap. The pita bread was delicious and the chicken had such a good flavor. My only complaint is that they serve it with fries; the two just don't go together in my opinion. I always do carryout and usually get the Gyro Platter, which comes with gyro meat, pita bread, a side Greek salad, and small portions of Orzo pasta salad and tzatziki. Very tasty and it always hits the spot. I've also tried the Kebab platters and these are excellent as well with chicken or kofta, homemade rice, and peppers/tomatoes/onions. I love non-chain restaurants that actually make the food. Instead of the chain places that just nuke pre-packaged food. From my table I could see the gentleman prepare my food so I know it was fresh. I ordered the chicken Souvlaki Platter. It was very good. It has a good size salad with all the usual Mediterranean suspects, olives, feta, cuke etc. Then you also get grilled chicken with Tzatziki dressing on it. It also comes with an orzo salad type dish and warm pita bread. $11.50 for the entree which was a little pricey for lunch but not unreasonable at all for what you get. Tried Pita Grill for the first time this afternoon and though it was okay. I ordered the Chicken Souvlaki wrap with a side salad. The chicken was well-flavored and I really liked the tzatziki. Unfortunately the Greek salad was underwhelming, mainly because the dressing really didn't taste like much of anything. I am used to a strong red wine vinegar taste when it comes to Greek dressings, but this tasted like a little oil mixed with oregano. My husband ordered the Chicken Shawarma and a side of fries. I've ordered take-out from Pita Grill numerous times when I'm craving Greek food. I've found the food to be decent but not outstanding, but it's fast and convenient to pick-up [because of the ample parking] so I find myself back there surprisingly often. Take-out orders are usually ready within 10 minutes. I usually get the Chicken Souvlaki wrap, which is good, but definitely has me missing my favorite spots in DC! My biggest complaint is the fries. They're generic crinkle cut fries that I could probably buy from the grocery store, and if I did they'd be more to my liking-- crispier and properly salted. read more

It's deceiving so don't get your hopes up :-) Pros= -Flavorful food! -I work across the street from the plaza and we sometimes order over the phone ahead of time. They always have our food ready when we pick it up! -Friendly staff Cons= -I am not a fan of the souvlaki coming with french fries...I would prefer a Greek, not an American, side. This restaurant was a disappointment. The two times we have been there, the food was so over seasoned with cinnamon that you could not taste anything else. We have done a lot of traveling in the M.E. and while they do use cinnamon in small amounts, along with other spices, it never overtakes the dish. Another good meal at the Timberlyne shopping center. Authentic Greek - reminded me of my school days in Detroit which had outstanding authentic Greek food. Pita grill is comparable to the fine Detroit Greek town restaurants. It's not much to look at but the food is delicious and one quickly forgets the spartan decor. We were greeted by a friendly lady who seemed to be waitress, cashier and manager. I figured our food would take forever but our drinks came quickly followed by some warm tasty pita bread with hummus like no other that I'd had. I was tempted to eat it with a spoon. I had the gyro platter which came with flavorful beef and lamb strips and a tasty tzatziki sauce. My wife had the pita grill chicken which came in a sauce with mushrooms, artichoke hearts and sun dried tomatoes. She barely allowed me to sample. A group of us went for dinner and they definitely give you more than enough food for the money. Make sure to order something pita bread because it's warm and soft. The waitress informed us that they start cooking the meat after orders are made, so it's super fresh. And she wasn't kidding--the lamb was the perfect texture. Been here twice now. First time I order the chicken souvlaki wrap and it was pretty good, very fresh ingredients and chicken was cooked well but could have used a little more flavor. Second time i went i got the gyro wrap with beef and lamb and it was excellent. Fries were good both times. The prices are reasonable and the service is excellent, ordered takeout and I was ready within ten minutes both times, everyone working in there is incredibly nice. Finding this little cafe tucked into Timberlyne was a pleasant surprise. We wanted a quick meal on our way out of town and we despise fast food stops. While everything here is made fresh and to order, we were still on our way, food in the bag, within 10 minutes. We tried the falafel wrap. The falafels had a nice crunch on the outside while being moist and flavorful on the inside. The pita was warm, soft, deliciously fresh. We also tried the rice pudding. We enjoyed it, too, but would have liked it more if it were less sweet. The owners are friendly and dedicated to good service and satisfied customers. Not the best and not the worst Mediterranean place that I've been to. I've stopped by a couple of times for lunch, though mainly due to Pita Grill's proximity to my house. You can tell a lot about a Mediterranean restaurant by the quality of their hummus and pita, and I find the hummus here to be a little lumpy and too sour for my liking. The pita is scrumptious and tasty though - just the ideal amount of softness mixed with crunchiness - so definitely add some bonus points for that. I would say that Pita Grill is on the pricier side. A decently filling lunch can be anywhere from $8 to $15, which is definitely higher than many other Mediterranean restaurants that I have been to of similar quality. The gyro platters are pretty large, coming with the gyro and fries on the side. Though the fries are "basic" (nothing special), the lamb can be tasty, says a friend of mine. He says that he's been to Pita Grill a couple of times and has ordered the same thing both times, but each time has been a little different - the first time, the lamb was cooked perfectly, but the second time, it was a little dry. Not sure if this inconsistency was just a one-time case or not, so I guess we may have to come back to find out. The store is pretty large and spacious, so there usually isn't any trouble finding a seat. I love that there's lot of natural lighting as well. And being the only mediterranean food restaurant in the area, it definitely does satisfy when a craving arises.
