Garlic Naan, Fish Vindaloo, Chicken Korma

Atmosphere: Tandoori Bites has a dark and cool interior. When we went on a Thursday dinner and there was no wait. Service: Our food came out quickly, and our servers were attentive throughout our meal. Food: We ordered the Mango Lassi, Fish Vindaloo, Chicken Korma, and Garlic Naan. The Mango Lassi was still a fruity and refreshing treat before our meal. The Fish Vindaloo was very flavorful, and the fish was soft and light. Our one complaint was that the sauce was rather acidic and tomato-like for our taste and overpowered the flavor of the fish. The Chicken Korma was creamy with a decent number of tender chicken bites. Overall: We enjoyed our first time at Tandoori Bites. The Mango Lassi and Chicken Korma were both very good, and while we did enjoy the Fish Vindaloo, we might opt to try a different dish next time!

My sister and I order out from Tandoori Bites pretty frequently. We've tried the chicken tikka masala and korma. Both are very flavorful and delicious. Not the best, over-the-top Indian food that I've had, but it always hits the spot. Delivery is always good and on time. We come back several times for the convenient location and fair pricing.

The food we had from Tandoori Bites in Durham ranged from OK to great. Overall, we thought both the food and service were very good. I recommend this place if you're looking for tasty Indian food near the Durham-Chapel Hill border. Currently, this is the third and newest location of Tandoori Bites. You can find it just off I-40 exit 270 at US 15 / US 501. The restaurant is hidden from street view. You'll have to drive into the shopping center, Indigo Corners, to find it. It's a couple doors down from Play It Again Sports. This location opened in October 2019. The space was completely renovated for the restaurant and, during my visit, it still looked brand new. I'm guessing less dine-in traffic due to the COVID-19 pandemic has helped keep the dining room looking fresh. There were some dine-in customers during my Tuesday night visit and takeout business was steady. The dining room was nice and elegant. There was red and purple ambient lighting, almost like a club/lounge look at night. There was a bar in the back and that's where takeout orders were picked up. Inside, the dining room was divided into three sections, all with a variety of tables and booths. The back corner is where they serve (or served) their lunch buffet. They also have a semi-enclosed patio outside, decorated with string lights, and uncovered, though they did have table umbrellas. I ordered online through Tandoori Bites' website (https://tandooribites.net/). They used EatStax for online ordering and I had no issues placing my order. It was fast and easy. I was given an estimated 20-minute pickup time and that estimate was pretty much spot-on. Here's what I ordered for my wife and me: * Tandoori Lamb Chops ($24) - ginger, roasted garlic, tandoori masala * Palak Paneer ($13) - spinach cooked with fresh homemade cheese * Chicken Biryani ($14) - chunks of chicken cooked in basmati rice with nuts and spices * Garlic Naan (2 slices for $3) * Onion Kulcha (2 slices for $3) * Raita ($3) * Ras Malai ($4) - creamy and milky syrup with chhena (cottage cheese) balls; syrup made from milk, sugar, cream, and saffron mixture The above descriptions are from the restaurant menu. I think the menu descriptions should be improved. Some of the item descriptions were cut-off or non-existent. Others were confusing, like the Tandoori Lamb Chops. There was another dish on the menu called Tandoori Lamb Chop Masala ($20), described as "cooked in a rich and creamy tomato sauce with onions and pepper medley." It sounds like exactly what we got, except I paid $4 more. Out of the dishes we tried, we liked the Tandoori Lamb Chops the least. It was OK. In reality, the lamb chops didn't look as big nor as thick as those pictured on the menu online. While the dish wasn't bad, it wasn't nearly as appetizing as the other dishes. Based on the menu descriptions, I think we actually got the "Tandoori Lamb Chop Masala" instead of the "Tandoori Lamb Chops" and paid a premium for it, but I could be wrong. There were plenty of grilled onions and peppers in our dish and I'm not sure I tasted any ginger nor garlic. For the price paid ($24) compared to what little meat there was on the bones (I think there were four chops total), I can't recommend this dish. I do recommend everything else we got. The Chicken Biryani, simply put, was comfort food. It was extremely flavorful, packed with lots of spices and seasonings. A couple criticisms about the biryani: (1) It was too salty. (2) There was no egg. Not among the best biryani we've had, but still good. I'd order it again. It was filling and satisfying. I overlooked the fine print on the menu that said all biryani dishes were served with raita (yogurt sauce). Otherwise, I wouldn't have ordered the extra raita. Palak Paneer is one of my all-time favorite Indian vegetarian dishes and the version we had from Tandoori Bites was excellent. It was creamy and delicious, full of flavor. Terrific with plain white basmati rice (two boxes were included with our order) and naan. There was hardly a difference between the Garlic Naan and Onion Kulcha. I was expecting two different types of bread, but they were the same. The only difference was the Onion Kulcha had bits of onion cooked on the inside of the bread and the Garlic Naan was herbed. Curious, but not a big deal as both flatbreads were tasty. They went well with everything and even tasted yummy by themselves. Each order consisted of one large slice cut in half (two pieces). Both the naan and kulcha were baked fresh, served warm, and had appetizing, springy consistencies. My wife and I enjoyed the Ras Malai. I don't think I've ever had bad Ras Malai anywhere. I love sweet and creamy desserts and this one fits the bill. One order from Tandoori Bites consists of two pieces of chhena in cream. It's not listed on the menu, but I think cardamom is an ingredient too. Really good stuff. I recommend saving room for dessert and ordering some. The food was high in sodium and left us parched.

I ordered the tandoori chicken, and it was delicious. When I order it, I did not know if it was curry or if it was grilled chicken at the time I was in the mood for curry, but it did not matter because the tandoori chicken was as tasty as you can imagine from the picture.

"Fresh local seafood"…read more I've come here a few times, so I was surprised to see I hadn't reviewed it! Saltbox started as a little shack near downtown but now occupies the place previously held by Shrimp Boats on 15-501 business between Guglhupf and Q-Shack. There are some outdoor picnic tables and several tables inside. I came most recently on a Saturday at 6:30pm. All the seafood here is super fresh, so the menu varies over time. I was excited this time to get crabcakes or scallops, but sadly, they ran out earlier in the day. Hence, I ended up with soft shelled crab platter (with potatoes and slaw), and one dining partner had a shrimp sandwich with the honey tots. The soft shelled crab was maybe the best I'd had, even though it looked a little odd-- super red and "squished". But it was VERY soft and flavorful. The potatoes and slaw were both excellent-- I liked the onions and peppers fried in with the potatoes, and the slaw was a nice vinegary rather than creamy slaw. I had one of my friend's tots, and WOW, those are good-- I'd get that next time. They loved their shrimp too-- I may go for that next time. Service was good-- we checked on our order at one point (see below), and the fellow remembered the name as well as being apologetic for the delay! The only negative-- it was maybe an hour from when we arrived 'til I got my platter. Some of that was the line, but a lot of it was just they were really busy and had a lot of orders (both dine-in and carry out). I probably wouldn't come again at that time of day, given the fewer options and long wait time. Still, EXCELLENT fresh fried seafood. Happy to give it 5 stars.

The ceviche was bright, fresh, and perfectly balanced, and the chips served alongside it were oh so good. The tortilla soup was the next course...and it was nicely spiced, comforting, and warming. The braised beef short rib tacos were great--the pickled veggies really added a punch of flavor that tied everything together beautifully. As far as the cocktails go...the winter pearita was delightful--I could have happily had a few more of those. Dessert surprised me the most. I'm usually not a tiramisu person since I'm not big on coffee, but their Mexican chocolate tiramisu won me over. The coffee flavor wasn't overpowering at all and it had almost horchata-like vibes. Overall, the menu felt incredibly thoughtful, cohesive, and delicious from start to finish. The restaurant itself is super cute and perfect for a date night. That's the first thing you notice--plenty of parking. I had no trouble finding a spot on two separate visits this week. Inside, it's a cozy setup with a bar, table seating, and an outdoor patio area. It has that laid-back oyster shack feel. The patio looks like it could be dog-friendly, though I didn't confirm. The place is clean, and the staff are genuinely friendly across the board--welcoming without being overbearing. Food-wise, it delivers. On my first visit, I had steamed clams and steamed Gulf shrimp. Both were phenomenal. The clams were sweet and perfectly cooked, and the shrimp was just as impressive--simple, fresh, and done right. Second visit, I went a different route and ordered a hamburger--yes, at a seafood spot. Running keto, I skipped the bun, and it turned out to be a great call. Cooked exactly to order and full of flavor, it held its own against the seafood. Whether you're coming in for oysters on the half shell, fresh seafood, or even a solid burger, this place covers it. The fried seafood combo was cooked to perfection. The catfish tasted fresh, without any of the fishy taste that catfish can sometimes have. The batter was crisp, while the fish stayed tender and juicy. The shrimp used for the fry were large and tasty. The pasta was the highlight of the meal, as generous heaps of shrimp and calamari paired well with the balanced flavor of the white/red sauce blend. I look forward to my next visit to Squid's. We ordered their spicy fra diavolo which was packed to the brim with calamari rings! If you don't believe me, take a look at my picture for proof. After 10 minutes of digging through the pasta, I still managed to find 10 calamari rings, lol. No complaints here though! Just surprised at how bountiful the calamari rings were for the pasta. The sauce wasn't spicy, despite the name stating so, and was sufficient to coat each strand of pasta noodle. As for our second dish, how can we NOT get fried seafood?! So, we decided to go for their combo for any two items. We were pleasantly impressed with the size of the battered catfish. It was MASSIVE! The shrimp, on the other hand, wasn't anything special. Quite small. Not really juicy. If calamari was an option for this combo, we'd definitely go for it! Seasoning was a little salty, but the breading was nice and crispy. Not burnt tasting or oily, and complimented well with the cocktail and tartar sauce. Fries were normal, but quite small in portion. For $30, I'd imagine either a little more fries if shrimps are only 6 pieces, along with a piece of catfish. Food was pretty good! I can't speak for service because I did take out, but it seemed okay. The inside was really clean and had lots of tables! Maybe I'll bring my friends the next time they come visit here.
