"Bodega-like Mediterranean Grill & Grocery in Parkwood area of Durham" This place is WAY off the beaten path for most, but I'm so happy to have gotten to try it out. Nestled in a little strip between a Muslim school and a mosque is this grill and grocery. We came on a Wednesday evening, and almost every table was already taken by diners. You order your food at a counter, and it has the Middle Eastern foods you'd expect-- kofta, shawarma, gyros, falafel, baba ghanouj, hummus, baklava, etc. I opted for the lamb gyro sandwich with a side of baba ghanouj, and my dining partner had the falafel sandwich. They call your number when it's ready. Food took maybe 10 minutes to receive, so we browsed the market area. It's not a huge selection, but very traditional-- nice seeing so many labels in Arabic, and along with standards (e.g., canned fava beans for Ful Medames), they also had things like frozen chopped mulukhiyah leaves-- that's definitely a rarer sight. Lots of good spices too. The food was EXCELLENT. The lamb was juicy and perfect (unlike what another Yelp review said), the tzatziki sauce was delicious, and the baba ghanouj was perfectly cooked and textured. I had a small bite of the falafel, and it was indeed one of the best I've had in the US. Price was fair, too-- the sandwiches are all under $10 before tax and tip, and making it a combo with side and drink cost just something like $2.50. And service was friendly-- although they called out numbers, they did walk out with the food to try to find and bring you your dishes. Best falafel!! Ive been here four times and one time was just to buy like 15 pieces of falafel. All of their sides are vegetarian but are on the oily side. Other than the orzo salad and dips, I don't think i'd keep coming back for the rest of the sides. But you can't ever go wrong with the falafel. Came here on our way to Durham as we were craving Middle Eastern food. Restaurant is in an older shopping center and does not look very impressive from the outside. We ordered at the counter and the food was made to order. It came out very hot and fresh with a big portion. The lamb cubes were very tender and full of flavor, and the kofta was also tender with a little bit of a kick to it. Plenty of basmati rice that came with the meat with fresh herbs and spices. Although they are located in an old building near a baseball field, this place is a true landmind for delicious food in South Durham. Mediterranean Grill & Grocery is by far my absolute favorite place to go for a gyro sandwich in the triangle. It's flavorful, juicy, assembled beautifully, and they don't skimp on the meat. They also have the best baba ghanoush, curried chick peas, roasted veggies and tabouli. I also love their curried couscous soup. Everything I"ve tried has always tasted super fresh. Their pita bread is always soft too even though it's not made in house and comes out of a bag they sell in the store. Overall, I can surely attest and say that I've never had anything here that I didn't like, and their quality and quantities are consistent. If you're in a hurry and coming here during dinner time I highly recommend placing a to go order over the phone and checking in what side salads they have. I was craving some Mediterranean food in Durham and when looking on Yelp this place came up. I ended up getting the falafel sandwich with hummus on the side. Let me just say some of the best falafel I've had in the triangle. Perfectly crisp and very well seasoned. The hummus was the perfect consistency and paired well with the pita and falafel. My friend also got the fries and the seasoning on them were great! When I was driving to the restaurant I was very confused at first since it's in the middle of a couple neighborhoods. However do not let the looks confuse you since the food is great. Plenty of parking and seating when I went on Friday night. Prices were reasonable and the staff was friendly. Food took slightly longer but it seems like they make everything fresh so makes sense. Overall, probably one of my favorite if not my favorite Mediterranean restaurants in the area and will definitely be back. A must try! read more

The hummus was the showstopper. I don't even like hummus but theirs is sooo good! The madjudara I could live without and the only thing I disliked was the salad (but I don't like salads in general). The pita was good and the only thing that could've made my meal better was if the falafel and pita were warm (which I'm sure if you eat in then it is). I found this restaurant on Yelp when I was in the area. When I first pulled up and saw the exterior of the restaurant I was going to leave because it looks dark and unwelcoming. There were multiple people waiting for their food when I arrived so it took some time for me to get my food since there were only two people behind the front counter. I was provided with a cup for my combo when I placed my order but the drink fountain was located to the right of the front counter so I didn't think that I was supposed to walk back there. When I asked the clerk he told me I can go back there to obtain my beverage. There were variety of beverages to choose from. After a while an employee asked me what I ordered. After I told him he brought me my chicken shawarma and then said that he would bring my fries out when they were done. The shawarma looked appetizing. It had a garlic sauce & was topped with French fries, lettuce, tomatoes and tahini. I chose not to get the pickles and onions. Truly a hidden gem! Tucked away in a side street and attached to their grocery store, Mediterranean Grill & Grocery served up some of the best gyros and shawarma I've had in the area. I got to try the lamb/beef gyro and the chicken shawarma pita sandwiches, both bursting with flavor. The pita is soft and fluffy, and the meats are flavorful and grilled to perfection.
