My girlfriend and co-worker, Kelly, and I went to Reno to visit our retired boss a couple of weeks ago. We had a GREAT foodie weekend! We decided to have dinner at Cattlemens in Dixon on the way home. What a great experience; I loved the old west decor, Samantha took great care of us, and our food was yummy! We both got the prime rib and lobster; it was so good! I had been thinking about lobster, so it was perfect. The dinners come with endless salad (which was really fresh), yummy bread, and beans. We shared our veggie and baked potato sides. We agreed we would return, but maybe to the Livermore location since it's closer. It made me miss our Pleasant Hill Black Angus since that's where I would typically have a lobster tail. I've included photos of the interior and menus. I've lived in Vallejo/ Fairfield the vast majority of my adult life and this was my first time visiting. Parking was good, reservations were easily made. We were sat in an area where there wasn't much light. The server was overwhelmed but did his absolute best. The bar was backed up which in turn backed everything else up. The portion sizes were huge and the taste was amazing. So there was a bang for your buck. It was very noisy so maybe not the best for a date night, but I will be back! read more

We had a wonderful dinner at Cattlemen's Steakhouse in Dixon. I had Filet mignon and lobster melted in my mouth. The waiter Caden was outstanding, smiling ,very courteous and catered to our every need. Always had a kind word to say. I understand people ask to sit at his tables. We came here for Fathers Day and it was our first time going as a family. I went to another Cattlemen's years ago. Luckily we made reservations and arrived early. They are kind of tucked away on a small road that leads to right next to the freeway. There was plenty of parking and we got seated quickly. It's a huge space and exactly what you imagine it would look like, standard steakhouse. They had some specials for the day. The service was weird just because we had one server helping us and then not even after our drink orders were taken she went on a break and someone else helped us for the majority of the time we were there. There was a lot of food, pretty good service. I think the small detail that stood out to me was when we were leaving and there was a lot more people crowded around and waiting, the manager helped lead the way out as my brother and his service dog were having a hard time getting through. We have not been to Cattlemen's in over a year because of the terrible service that we had received. We had been a frequent customer for years. Since the early seventies. But, since we were in the area and my husband has always loved Cattlemen's we stopped in. We got there when they had just opened. The service was excellent this time. We had Caiden as our server and he was outstanding! He was right there with everything. The dinner was excellent. The steak was delicious. The flavor was great and perfectly cooked at medium. I came in for my birthday dinner, and was disappointed as usual. It was just me, (yes I know sad), and sat in the bar, because you get served a little quicker. Ordered the Pete's special with a salad and a shrimp cocktail and a non-alcoholic strawberry daquiri... the salad was given to me in the plate that was put on the table... normally comes in a separate bowl, and when I asked the server where the regular bowl of salad was, she said that for parties of 1, we only serve 1 salad plate, and if I want more I could ask... I know that's A LIE, because I have been eating there for several years, and have always gotten a serve yourself bowl of salad... bull pucky... the steak was not cooked to the way I ordered it, and THE BAKED POTATO WAS COLD!!! I asked for butter and chives only for the baked potato, and only received the chives. The butter was no where to be found... they brought the butter, but with the potato cold, the butter wasn't going to melt in the potato.. so... epic fail again!!! The waitress showed up and discovered that I wasn't happy, and offered to get a new potato... which I know doesn't happen... they would only have nuked that potato, and that is NOT what I wanted... the daquiri was sweet for 2 sips and then SOUR for the rest of the time... kind of like me... Came here for a birthday dinner. Made reservations for a party of two. Arrived a little early and had to wait 10 minutes until we were seated. A basket of warm, round sourdough bread with a cup of butter was already waiting for us at the table. Our server was Xavier. He was pleasant, attentive and took our drink (red wine-Bonterra Cabernet) and appetizer (calamari) orders. These came out promptly and we proceeded to order our entrees of grilled salmon and the 6 oz. Petit filet mignon. The calamari was delicious and served hot accompanied with marinara and dill sauces. The filet mignon was cooked as requested with a side of baked potato. The salmon was good but a little dry, and the rice was a bit salty and dry to my liking. We managed to eat half and bring the rest to go as we were so full. The price was reasonable and the ambiance was cozy and relaxing. The first time I went the power literally went completely out before we could get our food... but I don't regret coming here a second time. This was probably the best experience I've ever had in any restaurant in a while or most likely just in general. Not only did we get greeted with nothing but pure hospitality and smiles but our wait time was simple. We put in our group (of three), sit down, and almost immediately get right back up to get seated. It was absolutely hassle free and as soon as we sat down we got to meet our server. And as someone who works fast food I know how the end of a shift can feel but our server Tara was the best. She was nothing but a complete sweetheart and joy to have as our server making sure our waters were full, salad, bread, and food were all nothing but perfect. With nothing short of a great attitude, smile, and amazing attention to detail. The ambiance here was absolutely incredible and I will be coming here again I hope to get the same waiter because she was the best. It is a treat to come back to Cattlemens. This is a revenge meal because we wanted to try their beef ribs and tumbleweed onion when we were at the Roseville location. We like coming to Cattlemens because the menu has something for everyone. It is unpretentious and we always felt welcomed. This location is busy and the wait times for both a table and entrees from the kitchen can take a while. Our server Elizabeth was great. She got us bread and salad right after we ordered. The tumbleweed onion $14 came with BBQ and ranch sauce. Very solid. The cowboy steak $40 still rein as my favorite. The flavor is complex and didn't even need steak sauce. The beef rib $32 came out as this mountain of meat. Wow. It was perfectly cooked with a good amount of BBQ sauce. We ended up taking 1/2 of it home as it was a lot. This is coming from someone that can do a 16oz prime rib with no sweat. Maybe it was because we had to wait a long time and got full off the bread and salad. Hopefully we can come back again soon. Just got back from the restaurant, and I can't believe I'm giving them just 2 stars. This was definitely my worst experience at Cattlemens. My husband, kids, and I were seated in the saloon at a table that hadn't been cleaned--there were leftover plates and napkins. Once we got settled, I asked for a glass of water, but the server brought me one that had melted ice cubes, like it had been sitting out for ages. Upon closer look, I noticed lip marks on the rim, confirming my suspicions that it was indeed left out. I asked the server for a fresh glass and explained the situation. She apologized and promised to bring a new one, but it never came. After today, I don't think I'll be choosing Cattlemens for my steak dinners anymore. I really hope the staff gets some training on hygiene and food safety. read more

Do not come here. For some reason my family loves this restaurant and I cannot understand why. Maybe nostalgia? Maybe because the elder generation loves their chains? I couldn't tell you. But what I can tell you is if you are in need of a chain restaurant steak then visit Texas Roadhouse or Outback. The service is TERRIBLE. The employees are rude and don't know basic customer service nor manners. I ordered my steak medium rare. It came out BURNT. I was afraid to ask the server to take it back because she was so rude from the beginning. Well I ended up sending it back. When I got the next steak it was RAW. Not even rare but RAW. With the prices of going out to eat these days i advise you to be more choosy when going out. Not only can they not prepare a proper steak but they also have rude staff. Cattlemen's is not worth the price. You are better off getting a steak at Denny's. read more

To quote my son who spit the meat out, "yuck". Yuck is right. Cold and stale fries which means it's not cook to order. Meat was so so. Lobster tasted rubbery, overcooked with a weird seasoning. We came on a slow day, yet the food still took 40+ mins. As I was leaving, there were only a few tables occupied yet the kitchen was "backed up". Unless there was only one cook, not sure how that can happen. My hubby ordered steak for medium rare which came out almost raw. Sent back and waited 15 mins. Now's it's overcooked that can barely be cut that should've been on the grill for probably a min or so. Service was friendly though! Best part of the meal was the drinks. My parents love it here so any kind of special occasion of theirs is usually celebrated at this Dixon location. Every time we come here, it's always the same experience too. Good food. Good service. We all leave happy. It's always good; however, it's never great or even memorable. Always an 8/10 if you know what I mean. Something about today was totally different. I was impressed with my experience today. 95% of this experience had to be the level of execution that our server, Savannah provided. She did amazing. Being a server in my past, i absolutely appreciated that she kept bread coming, that she asked if plates can be taken, that she made sure old plates are cleared before new plates are placed, waters are full, orders are taken promptly, and all courses are appropriately spaced out. She was phenomenal. On top of this, my garlic fries were crispy, my 12 oz. prime rib was a perfect medium well, and the au jus brought everything together on that sizzling silver plate. When the food is perfect, and the server executes perfectly, there's no better experience and I'm glad that today went the way it did. Cattlemens, you got an A+ tonight. 11/10.
