So I was so busy today I never had breakfast or lunch or a protein bar , not NUTHIN'! I was hungry. As I was headed home down Mo Rama I remembered cattle baron has an early dinner menu, for like $12 something, so I went by there. I was finna get the 6oz sirloin, which I have before and it's nice. Then I saw the 8oz Helen breast anyway you want it. Mmm I think I'll get that instead. Then I'm scanning on down the list and see 8 oz chopped round. With mushroom gravy. I can't do potatoes right now but I could do rice. And add a salad bar and some steamed broccoli, still only be about $21 and that's with the ice tea. And fresh baked bread and butter at the table. So I ordered that with gravy in the rice, cuz I likes gravy on it ALL, and I did add the Broccoli for $3.95 and a salad bar for $4.95. But she let me hold putting in the order so I could get most is the salad are before they started it. So I get it fresh, not sitting on my table for 20 minutes getting cold like last time I came when I barely got back to the table with the salad and they brought my steak out. The cook FAST here. Salad bar here is IMMENSE. And so many choices for salad, Romain, mixed greens or spinach, tons of toppings and at least 10 different kinds of dressings. At least 6 different what I call "prepared" salads like macaroni, potato, carrot, pea salad, beets and onion salad, some kind of angel hair with green online and bell peppers on olive oil and black pepper and a dash of vinegar? It's so good when they have it. Two soups always, today was tortilla and vegetable, which upon inspection looked more like a creamy potato with carrots and other veggies and diced potatoes of course, maybe they just had not changed it's name plate. I make a wonderful salad and thoroughly enjoyed it. Love chilled plates. When my lunch/dinner came it was on a huge round plate, the ground round was suspiciously SMALL. I used to work in a cafeteria and we sold 8oz chipped steaks and they were rice the size of what was in my plate. It actually really looked more like a hamburger patty. It would have fit perfectly on a small hamburger bun. If I had to guess I'd say head it's 1/3rd pound burger. Which is a tic over 5 oz. Not 8 ounces. The brucellosis was a large serving and bright green, and almost still raw. I could not cut it with a fork. I had to used a steak knife. I should have asked that it be steamed fork tender. That's on me, I guess. I just don't like "steamed" broccoli that still could pass as salad bar accoutrement. There was no gravy in the rice, even thought I expressly asked for gravy in the meat and rice. So as she sat the plate in front of me and asked if I needed any this else I said "gravy" and she said oh that's right it was supposed to be on the rice, I'll get some gravy. And a minute or so later another smiling lady brought me small bowl of gravy. The sweet tea was perfect. I even had a refill on that. The ground steak was cooked nicely, juicy and hot, the mushroom gravy was very flavorful and the rice pilaf was a perfect companion to it. I forgot to take pics, sorry, I just dug right in. This is still a great early dinner price and great choices. I'm definitely gonna get the 8 ounce chicken breast your way, next time. But which way shall I choose??? Decisions, decision! read more

Cattle Barron is a pretty solid steakhouse entry. There is plenty of parking and the interior has a warm, old west feel. The crew there treated us well and the service was good. This evening, I was the mood for a prime rib. My wife opted for grilled shrimp. Both were good. The prime rib perfectly prepared and extra salty. I also liked the au jus. That is a big part of what makes prime rib good. The grilled shrimp and vegetables were also very nicely done. And the cherry on top is one of the best salad bars in El Paso. Easy parking, cozy dining area, good service, good food that is moderately priced. And with such a great salad bar, pushes Cattle Barron from 4-Stars up to 5-Stars! read more

Tried Cattle Baron on Airway a couple weeks ago because I saw their prime rib special and thought maybe this could be a holiday dinner option for the family. I went in hungry after a massage, ready to judge honestly, and... no. Just no. Service was sweet but slow, nothing to complain about. The real issue was the food. Everyone around me kept saying the same thing I was thinking: the salad bar is the best part. And honestly, that's not something you want to overhear in a steakhouse. I ordered my prime rib medium rare. What I got was rare in the wrong way. No seasoning crust, no browning, just a floppy cut with a thick tendon and a lot of fat and gristle. One of the worst cuts I've ever been served. Even the au jus couldn't save it. Mashed potatoes and bread were fine but bland. My husband's burger was just okay. Prices were normal for a steakhouse, but the quality didn't match at all. I left feeling queasy and very disappointed, especially since I was hoping to add this place to our holiday rotation. Service was fine. Decor was fine. The food was the problem. I can't recommend this location, especially if you're going for prime rib. Walked over from the Marriott for dinner one evening. I was dying for a good salad bar and this place had it. Don't really have any picks to show because it was just plate after plate of fresh salads. I think the big seller here is the salad bar but it's a bit gross in my opinion. Seems like the food sits for a bit longer than it should and people always drop stuff in the dressings. This place has been a long long long time friend! We've enjoyed Cattle Baron for many years in Ruidoso, Midland (closed now :( ) and now El Paso. This place is amazing! They have a fabulous salad bar...I mean FABULOUS! There are so many topping choices, dressings, pasta salads and 2 soup choices. The warm bread is delicious and the prime rib is AMAZING! While staying in El Paso for 3 months caring for a sick family member, we had Cattle Baron 2-3 times a week. It was great any day of the week or weekend! Service is great!!! Steak House huh! A $36 8oz fillet was served to me cold and blue in center after requesting med to med rare. Loaded baked potato was served with butter, sour cream, and cheese served on the side in tiny little ramekins for me to assemble myself. This is not a steak house...it's a Sizzler. The waiter offered to take off my Cesar Salad. Whoopee!! The minimum tip on the payment device is 18% followed by 20, 22, and 25. How about pay a chef that can cook a fillet medium rate and not expect me to subsidize your employees' wages even after they can't muster the initiative to put the toppings on a hot baked potato. Carlos the server was extraordinarily good at his job. After a very long day, I had to eat and the restaurant was close by. I was promptly seated. Everything on the tables as I walked to seat looked good, as well as the menu. I told him I couldn't decide but wanted something not heavy or rib sticking. He suggested soup and salad bar. It hit the stop! Everything was fresh and well presented. The green chile soup had a kick, the kind that keeps you taking another spoonful, it was torture and pleasure. I wasn't impressed the last time I dined at a Cattle Baron but I decided to try this location since I ate at the neighboring Applebee's the last time I was in this area. I should have gone to Applebee's instead. When I arrived I was told to sit anywhere in the bar area near the entrance. The place wasn't particularly busy but the only open tables were piled with dirty dishes so I sat at the bar. I waited for about 5 minutes before the bartender noticed I was there and gave me a menu. This really loud couple sat next to me and ordered drinks and an appetizer right away while I was still there trying to get someone's attention so I could order. I ordered the green chile wontons and the shrimp scampi. I asked for the bread too and it was pretty good. The couple got their wontons in a couple of minutes while mine didn't arrive until 10 minutes later. The wontons were pretty much the same as the last time I had them. The shrimp scampi was really disappointing. The pasta was soaking in oil and the portion was tiny. It came in a little dish with six grilled shrimp on top. This looked and tasted like one of those premade microwaveable meals you get at the grocery store. The fries were lukewarm like they had been sitting out for a while. This wasn't worth $20. It took all of 5 minutes to eat my main course and during that time another loud couple sat next to me (the previous couple had left) and they had a toddler with them. The bar had a long padded armrest along the entire stretch so every time someone leaned on it the other guests could feel it. The toddler kept slapping the armrest which jostled my arm and caused me to splash my food. I had to keep my arm elevated while I ate. I asked for my check and the bartender said "ok" and then disappeared for 10 minutes. Several other employees wandered over to stand behind the bar but they weren't working and just chatted with the other guests. When I finally got the check I quickly paid and left. My bill was about $43 (including tax and a tip). I don't think I'll visit another Cattle Baron. read more

I came here with a coworker while on a work trip and the food was good. I ordered the Filet mignon with the loaded mash potatoes and lemon garlic asparagus and it tasted well. My coworker got the prime rib and said it was good as well. We shared an appetizer of the bacon wrapped shrimp and liked that as well. Our waiter Adam was very friendly and helpful with any questions we had. I can't say it was the best steak I ever had but it hit the spot. The fideo was delicious as well as the salad bar, the Rangoon's were also very tasty but the rest was sub par and commercialized. The creamed horseradish was sweet and not very flavorful, the au jus was cold, asparagus needed more seasoning. Where do we begin? I was skeptical coming here based on the reviews but gave it a try anyways. Big mistake. First off, my waiter was amazing. I wish I remembered his name because he exemplified great service and was a highlight of the night. The decor reflects a mid western theme and was appropriate. It's spacious on the inside and we walked right in on a Friday night. The food was below average. The prime rib was awful and I cannot believe they served me the cut of prime rib they did. The food was great as always, but the server, Jorge, made this dinner the best experience we have ever had at a Cattle Baron. For reference, we frequent the Ruidoso and El Paso locations. He was prompt, polite, accommodating, and got our order correct despite being the bartender and our server when the restaurant was approximately 40% occupied either diners. I hope Cattle Baron recognizes what an asset he is to their business and makes him feel as appreciated as we did as his patrons. If I operated a restaurant, I would try to lure him to work for my business. My two complaints with Cattle Baron, not specific to this visit but in general, are: 1. they don't provide real butter, providing margarine instead. I find this disappointing as margarine is not only disgusting but it's unhealthy and not the standard I expect in a restaurant of Cattle Baron's class. 2. They refuse to serve alcohol to anyone who can't produce an ID despite the people very clearly being over 30 or 40. I almost walked out one night and considered never returning when the same server that waits on us and checks my ID almost every week said she wouldn't serve me a margarita without seeing my ID that I had unfortunately left at home. I respect entities that follow rules and don't condone serving minors, but for Christ sake, how many people under 21 years old dress up like people who are clearly over 50 so they can order over priced alcoholic drinks at their restaurants? read more

Okay, El Paso I'm a serious foodie and I love to try new places. This is hands down the best meal I have had in El Paso since moving here. 10/10! We always pass Cattle Baron when driving and have said many times we are going to try it. We finally did and everything was perfect! The seating in the lounge, the service, happy hour, the salad bar, and every dish ordered was perfect! The salad bar is what dreams are made of. So many options and such a wonderful selection. You can also serve yourself now at their salad bar. The steak had topping choices and even seasoning choices while being wrapped in bacon. It was mouthwatering! As a Texan this is an abomination of a steak house. Maybe it's good enough for El Paso or Las Cruces, but that is like saying the Jamaicans have a great Caribbean bobsled team. First of all, they keep the lights on like it's a doctor's office and not a bar/restaurant. No sense of ambiance. I'm at the bar right now and feel like I'm under interrogation or about to get my molars checked. So step one, turn down the fucking lights you idiots. Literally every restaurant has this figured out. It's not Whataburger or McDonald's. Now the bar at Raddissson next door is also lit up like a stadium which is why no one is n there. So AMBIANCE! It's a simple fix. The rest is going to be harder. Service was marginal. Again I think the El Paso/New Mexico region doesn't know any better so there is no standard for good service. What is not to like about this place? First time here. Location is convenient by the airport with ample free parking. Restaurant is large and nicely decorated for a great ambiance. We were promptly seated and our server was friendly, very polite and attentive. We both chose the small cut of prime rib. It was cooked just right, moist and tender, delicious. Not my usual place to go but I was wanting a good piece of meat and a drink. This place has probably been here forever from the looks of the TEXAS style decor. Old west themed , seems like it's a family style restaurant. I chose to sit at the bar and dine. Happy I did. The bartender was a cool dude named Nacho. He was inviting and talkative and we soon realized we had a lot in common as he visits Palm Springs and Joshua Tree area often. It was nice to chat about places back in Cali I miss. It was a cold night so I wanted a warm drink- he made me a great Hot Toddy with Grand Marnier. He suggested the prime rib which is what I was looking at anyways- so I went ahead and gave in. For 4.49$ I added the salad and soup bar. Great variety at the all you can eat salad bar - just disappointed that both soups were lacking in the main ingredients. Mamas beef soup had no meat barely any veggies. The mushroom soup was basically just the cream and no mushrooms. But I still picked the mushroom and some great croutons to dip in it. Took my time enjoy my salad , soup and the warm wonderful loaf of bread and butter I received along with my drink before moving onto my Prime rib and baked sweet potato with a cinnamon butter. It was served with horseradish and an au ju. The prime rib melted in my mouth! Prices are a little more than I usually pay but for the ambiance and nice chat it was worth it. 6oz prime rib and one side 17.95$ Hot Toddy was about 10$ (definitely pricey for me) but Nacho was amazing so hey- there's that. If I had to summarize this place, it would have been Applebee's quality food at higher prices. We ordered the prime rib and French dip. Both were incredibly dry, as if the food was not made fresh. The french dip tasted bland, with very little flavor. It was a decent sized portion, but not a huge fan of the bread either. My 3 year old had 3 slices of pickle on one of the salad bar plates and apparently the general manager is a stickler about that. So they had to charge us for an extra salad bar.
