The location feels random. The wait staff was friendly. But talking more to each other than waiting on customers. The tight fit felt like we were apart of the next tables party. The food was a miss. Got the brisket sandwich with fries. The fries tasted like frozen Walmart potato wedges. read more

Yes I went out of my way a little just for this steak sandwich- that should speak volumes. So, my retired neighbor does me a solid every trash day and brings my trash cans in behind my gate after the truck passes. I never asked him to do this for me, he just grew up in a time and era where people did that type of thing. He must have seen me come home one day- it was late, dark, cold and miserably wet. My trash cans had blown all the way down to the other end of the neighborhood. When I finally found them, the wind had flipped the kids open and the rain had filled them with a fair amount of water. By the time I dragged them home, I was miserably wet, cold and dark! Needless to say, with all the wind we have had in El Paso these past few weeks, I am grateful to my neighbor for doing me a great favor. So, I must say thank you when I can and do something nice for him. I knew he was not feeling well lately and I was off today running errands, so I called ahead and ordered us some lunch- I wanted him to have something good. I ordered the rib eye steak sandwich and it is always a hit. The fries it comes with are pretty good too. They had my order ready on time and my neighbor devoured the entire thing... First of all, I love Great American Steakburger. I have been going here for years. I love the pineapple cole slaw, and the petit pan bread is superb. That being said, they have some of their credit card terminals set with a suggested 30% tip! I tip well, but please don't suggest I tip 30%! I'll leave 30% if I want to, but to even suggest that high of an amount is an insult. This isn't a white tablecloth, cloth napkin, Cafe Central type of place. I thought they had corrected this, but was there the other day, and the 30% suggested tip was back, making me think that some terminals are set that way, and some aren't. I gotta give it to this place because they offer vegetarian options on their menu. That portobello sandwich was so good! The sweet potato fries not only looked good but they tasted good. The service was good, the waitress was proactive, helpful, and nice. Never needed to look for her to ask for any extra things as she was already asking if anyone was okay. The parking can get a bit hectic when it's a weekend but nothing impossible to pull off. Had reservations for our large party which made things way easier. Didn't have to wait out in the cold. We have read some good reviews for this place so we decided to give it a try. I had the signature burger (The Original Steakburger) with sweet potato fries and Steve had the Cheese & Mushroom Steakburger with steak fries. First off.... Yummy. The seasoning was flavorful but not too much. The sweet potato fries were waffled and not over salted. Steves burger was sloppy good. Steak fries were not too big and cooked well. The waitress was friendly. Next we will try a steak. This will go into our restaurant rotation. read more

Ambiance is very important this needs a make over. Moving on the food was subpar the dinner rolls hard as a rock attempted to use the bread knife and wasn't able to get through. Butter was cold and solid, mash potatoes grey and gummy! Got the fish bites or should I say batter bites!! Fish was missing at sea. Cesar salad was 7$ small bowl of wilted lettuce no croutons and a faint taste of cheese!!! The charro beans missing every ingredient except for the beans and water!! How have I NEVER reviewed Great American Steakburger? I practically grew up here! I'm a native El Pasoan and used to eat here ALL THE TIME before moving in 2008. Took a quick trip to El Paso this past weekend, and was glad a former employer suggested we eat here. My old boss has done a lot of work with the owners - what great people! Very nice, Christian people who care and give back to their community. They've supported Christian rock concerts, and at least one large non-profit that I know of (the one I worked for). I'm sure they do a lot more... Aside from being owned by awesome people, you cannot go wrong with anything on their menu. Whether it be fish (beer battered or regular), chicken (beer battered or regular), steak, or their burgers - you just can't beat this place. It's been almost ten years since I've been to Great American and their food is still just as fresh and consistent as it was before I left El Paso... The restaurant itself is nicely spacious, which allows for a quieter atmosphere (unless their are Mariachis in the "party room" as there were when I visited last weekend). Our server was fantastic. Wasn't for me. Nice atmosphere but the service was not good. I go in and sit at the bar and talk with the bartender because I'm the only one there. Ask him about some drinks order one and after about 5 minutes I change it to beer because I'm tired of waiting. At the same time I ask him a question about the menu thinking he would understand I was ready to order. Someone else brings out some cold rolls that weren't good. I wait about another 10 minutes finish my beer and hand him my credit card to his surprise. There were several other people around that could have helped but didn't. I really enjoyed my visit to Great American Steakburger. The restaurant has a nice cowboy, saddle up feel and my entree with sides was so delicious. The staff are some of the friendliest I've seen and really make you feel welcomed. We went to Great American on a Sunday and it was packed, but a hostess was able to find us a seat within minutes. The hosts really work hard and so do the managers. Any time one of them came by while we were waiting they stopped to say hello and ask if we'd been helped. I was really impressed by the staff. We decided to order the sautéed mushrooms as an appetizer. They lacked a little flavor, maybe a little salt, but they were a fine way to start especially because they came with six or so pieces of grilled bread. The grilled trout I ordered as my entree was phenomenal. The skin was nice and crisp and the fish flaked perfectly. The seasoning was absolutely delicious. I did find a few small bones so I was careful while eating it. It also came with four sides that were all really good, my favorite was the pineapple coleslaw. After we finished up with our meals I gave a quick glance to the desserts on the menu and was impressed that the profits from the pie sales help Christians spread the gospel (and I'm wording it that way because I can't quite remember if it was for missionaries or if it was for work in the U.S.). That alone had me sold, but it didn't hurt that they have many different varieties of pies, each sounding better than the last. We settled on the Chocolate Silk Pie. It was actually pretty frozen when we got it, but the menu says they make the pies in house so I'm guessing that was just a fluke. Next time I'll probably stick to one of the pies that could come á la mode, but either way I like the cause. The entree was so good that I am definitely enticed to go back and try other dishes here. If it's a Sunday you may want to call ahead because they stayed busy the whole time we were there. It's a casual place, but you'll see a lot of people in their Sunday's best here so you may want to dress accordingly. The staff is great. And they're a Christian business. I'll be back! read more

Although I like their steaks and brisket, my favorite out of everything on the menu is their steak burgers. Yum! I add cheese and pickled jalapenos to it. I've always liked the seasoning they use on their hamburger patties. In fact, you can buy it from their website or at grocery stores around town. I often use their seasoning to cook steaks or hamburgers at home. Claudes Sauces, the maker of their seasoning, also sells it on their website. FYI, Claudes Sauces also makes amazing marinade for steaks and fajitas. The reason I give it four stars, instead of five is because I feel like the service could've been a little bit better. We had three different waitresses! The first waitress we had rushed us into ordering. I don't like to be rushed in whatever I'm doing. I asked her to give us a few minutes to look at the menu and she maybe gave us around two. She just seemed annoyed, I'm not sure what was going on. I don't know where she went but we had two other waitresses during this transaction. The others were ok. I get annoyed when they ask us if we need anything when our mouths are full. That's an old trick to get away with not working as hard. My boyfriend liked his steak. He was disappointed because he asked for rolls with the meal. They brought them when he was about to finish his food. The first waitress said she was sorry but she burned them. We laughed and said that was ok. My boyfriend doesn't like the beans or coleslaw. I love their beans so I ate them. I picked out some of the pineapple from the coleslaw and ate that. This location usually has decent service. I'm not saying today's was bad but it just needed some improvement. Overall, I recommend this location. They're also pretty good for orders to go and special events. Been in TX two months and had been wanting to find a place with a good steak - decided to try Great American Steakburger and wow - so glad I did. I had the filet and shrimp scampi - flavors were spot on, food cooked perfectly to order, and the service was great (went for early dinner - and they were well-staffed, yay). This is the worst location we have been to! We went for our daughters birthday mention to the waitress as soon as we got there that it was their birthday, so they could get the cake and the candle at the end of our meal. The appetizers needed seasoning was very bland. We ordered two different plates for our kids, right before they were bringing ours food the waitress tell us one won't be available until another 45 minutes when we did receive our food our kids food was overcooked,(extremely chard) and the bread was very stale. After a disappointing meal and after they have removed all our plates, we wait 25 minutes for them to bring out the dessert with a candle, it never came out when we requested for it yet again the waitress said there was gonna be a longer wait it was still not ready. Their service was excellent, but the food wasn't! Steakburger was just okay, but didn't sit well on my stomach afterwards. I decided to try their haddock fish recently and it did not have much flavor. They offered their own tartar sauce which is pink colored, runny and horrible. Hellman's or Kraft would have been much better, but wasn't available. I'm only giving more than 1 star because of excellent servers, but will wait awhile before trying again.
