Came here on Valentine's Day and I'm honestly just confused on how this place has a high rating. I understand that it can get busy on a popular holiday, but this was absolutely ridiculous. We waited 45 minutes for our appetizer to arrive and an hour for our main course to arrive. Our server was apologetic but it doesn't excuse the fact we waited for our steaks for an hour. Ribeye was fine, but the mashed potatoes didn't have flavor until I put a LOT of salt and pepper. The steak knives were dull and couldn't cut through my steak. On top of that, the tables were very shaky so while I was trying to cut my steak with the dullest knife known to man, my drinks were shaking and spilling. I need to reiterate that I know it was a busy holiday but for a whole 45 minutes, our server didn't check in on us and I don't think anyone should ever be waiting an hour for a meal, just for it to have no flavoring and be extremely bland. Problem was not the service, just the overall efficiency of the restaurant.

From what I had heard about this place I was expecting a bit more upscale ambiance. Still not sure if I'm disappointed or relieved. This is a more upscale sports bar that seems to specialize in higher quality plates. I was expecting more of a tapas vibe. Appetizers were ok. Mac and cheese bites were lacking in a lot of flavor. They came out crispy and the Mac wasn't overcooked but neither the pasta or breading had much flavor. The avocado ranch it came with was pretty tasty. Poutine was disappointing. Fries were overdone and tasted nothing of Parmesan garlic. The gravy was creamy but also lacking in a little flavor. Not sure what the smoked ham was seasoned with but I'm not a fan of smoky so I could have gone without. Curds themselves were cheesy and a nice consistency but overall just not what I wanted out of a poutine. Guess I was craving more cheese. Dinner was decent. Two of us got salads and they are a decent size for the price. I got the steak and blue and my steak tips were smaller than expected but plentiful and actually cooked to the correct temp! Two of my dinner mates got the tuna tacos and I didn't hear complaints. One wasn't a fan of the sweet potato tots because they were too sweet but I loved them. Dessert: I think this was the biggest disappointment. First, it took almost 30 min to come out after ordering. (Our waitress was pretty sparse the whole meal). Second, The peaches tasted ok although slightly on the overcooked side (over caramelized). The mini waffle was thin and slightly crispy yet malleable. Didn't really hold up to eating like a taco. Whipped topping seemed homemade and plentiful. Overall, it was very messy and not quite the cobbler I was expecting. If the taco shell was supposed to be the "topping" it just wasn't enough. TLDR: good enough to try again but won't rush to come back.

There are some nice contemporary restaurants popping up in reasantly new construction strip malls. This one in particular caught my eyes one day as we drove by the place. The impressive building construction and colorful name design motivated me to one day invite a friend of mine to go with me there for dinner. When we arrived, we were impressed with the entrance to the restaurant because of the highest wall construction in the strip mall located in a corner spot with an outdoor patio for outside seating and eating. As we entered the restaurant, the place was modern and clean, yet at the same time relaxed and cozy. The high ceilings helped expand the space, which was small and had its tables very close to each other. The host station was in the center as you entered, and the main seating area was on the right, while the bar and another seating area were on the left. The host quickly greeted us with a warm smile and took us to a table on the right. The menu had a short but very nice selection of dishes from which to choose and several that made you want to come back to try them. To start with, we chose the Poutine. As our main course, my friend ordered the Mushroom & Cheese Burger with a side of sweet potato tots, and I ordered the Cuban Panini with Cast Fries. The appetizer was a good size for two, very tasty, and filled us up. The main courses were not as large, and even though they filled us up, mine, in particular, was small and had very little meat inside. For dessert, we had the Peach Cobler Tacos. The hard waffle tacos were filled with cubes of peaches (but not peach Cobler) and covered with nice cold, fresh Whipped Cream. As we left, we both left satisfied even though we felt that the tables were a bit too close together and lacked privacy. I particularly liked the place and would recommend it as a place to meet with family or friends for an informal dinner in a modern yet relaxed ambiance.

Decent bar/American food. My husband and I came here for dinner on a Sunday night. Service was friendly and food was fresh. We ordered the poutine and Mexican street corn appetizers. The fries for the poutine had a nice crunch but still soft texture inside, ham and cheese curds were nice size and not too little or too much with the fries and gravy. The Mexican street corn had good flavor but I just wanted more of it on the whole corn. For our entrees I tried to order the Shrimp and Asparagus fettucine but was told they were out of fettucine, no problem tried to order the Shrimp and Grits and then told they were out of shrimp. The server was very apologetic about it and I wasn't super upset, just a bummer they were out of what I wanted to try. I ultimately ordered the Tuna Burger which was delicious and freshly made. I had requested it rare and it was a bit more cooked but still tasted really good. The side of fries was the same style as what came in the poutine so still crunchy outside with soft inside. My husband ordered the Country Fried Pork Chop that comes with mashed potatoes. I thought it tasted good and was cooked well but he didn't like the smoky flavor as much but did think it was cooked well otherwise. They have a good selection of local beer as well as usual favorites and looked like a good wine list. They are open later which is nice for last minute dinner plans. Atmosphere was busy but not too loud or chaotic. We will probably be back since we don't live too far away.

It's a place you are welcomed from the time you step in. The food and drinks are wonderful, and the service is extraordinary. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that it would be appropriate this year to go back to this restaurant and write a follow-up review, since my initial review was one of my reviews that contributed to me obtaining this highly esteemed Award. When I arrived the place was full. People enjoying quality time with significant others, in a comfortable environment, drinking and eating to their hearts desire. I stood there, waiting to be seated, and somehow I didn't mind the wait. Who would be my server, Chelsea came and greeted me with a smile, letting me know that soon she would have a table for me. And this was not a fake promise like they tell you at other places to keep your hopes up. As soon as some customers left a table near by she went to clean it and set.it up for me. Last time I came here, I came with.a friend, this time I came along. And you know what, it didn't mind to her the size of the party, she treated everyone the same. With the same respect and caring attitude. And you know what. This is really what makes tje big difference in coming to eat here. In no time at all she had me seated at a 4 person booth looking over the menu and enjoying a Strawberry Saffron Tonic Mocktail which was the first thing I ordered. You know what, it doesn't matter what drink you have to enjoy yourself and have a good time, it's just a matter of attitude. Right then and there, you can sayI hadva great attitude of life. This is the kind of feeling this place brings out in their customers. More than customers, they see us as their guests. Even though I was looking at the menu, I already knew what I was going to have. A sandwich that ever since I moved to Roanoke, has become my favorite of them all in this Star City: The Ricky Ricardo of the Village Grill. Having been born in Cuba and grown up in Miami and Puerto Rico, I have learned to appreciate a good Cuban Sandwich. And this is not only one that comes close to it, but has perfected it with their golden touch and creativity, and yet maintaining it true identity. There is nothing greater one can say from an item from the menu. The fries that accompanied it were also amazing. My server Chelsea provided great service, coming by at the appropriate times to check on me. For dessert, I had the Cheesecake Du Jour that happened to be Peanut Butter, my favorite. What a Wonderful dining experience I had here. Needless to say, I highly recommend this place for its great ambiance, magnificent food, and excellent service. I can't say enough good things about it. My wife's salad that came with her meal was dry, and the lettuce seemed old. Her chicken tenders were dried out and did not have a lot of flavor to them. I ordered an 11 ounce sirloin that I wanted cooked medium however, when it came out, it was well done. I sent a steak back and while I was in the bathroom, my recooked steak came to the table. The manager did remove my original fries which had no seasoning on them and brought me a basket of fries full of salt. He did not ask if the fries were unseasoned. The fries he brought were not edible as they were loaded with salt. The recooked steak was cooked to medium, but lacked flavor, and just didn't taste very good. I took most of it home with me. The highlight of the meal was my bowl of chili that came with my meal. I would expect better from Texas roadhouse. This is not the first instance we've had an issue at this restaurant. However, one of the best features of their app is that you can join the wait list through the app and once you get to the restaurant, you'll already be closer to the top of the line. Today I got there at 3:20PM for a late lunch, early dinner, so there was no wait. As soon as I arrived a young, friendly gentleman took me to a table. There, it didn't take long for my server to arrive, greet me, and take my order. I ordered a lemonade to drink and one of my favorite dishes on the menu, the Filet Medallions, cooked medium-rare, to eat. This dish consists of three tender filets (9 oz.total) topped with their Portobello Mushroom sauce and served over season rice, with two sides. For sides I had a cup of their Chili and a House Salad with blue cheese dressing. I requested that the Chili and salad be served first, before my main entrée. As I waited, I enjoyed drinking my iced cold lemonade and eating their famous yeast rolls with their signature Cinnamon Honey Butter, which is a sweet whipped spread made from butter, powder sugar, honey, and cinnamon. Served freshly made, these rolls are a delight. The chili was delicious, served with chopped onion and graded cheese. The House Salad with blue cheese dressing was also very fresh and delicious. Shortly afterwards, but before I had finished my salad, the main entre arrived. Timing is very important in bringing out your order, but here they seem not to pay attention to this because the table next to mind also had their salad and main entrée out at the same time. My server noticed when I had finished my lemonade and brought me a refill in another glass. When the main entrée arrived, it looked and tasted delicious, however their season rice was over seasoned and for this reason tasted very salty and didn't allow the flavor of the Portobello Mushroom sauce to stand out. I didn't order dessert because I was planning on having it later at Blue Cow Creamery. Overall, if it were not for the very salty overseasoned rice, and the serving of the main entrée too soon, it would have been a perfect dining experience. I hope the manager of the restaurant reads this review and takes action to correct this, because it is the little things like this that make the big difference in the enjoyment of a meal.

And Kirk & Soul, in Downtown, Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. I loved the interior renovations of this new restaurant. Its beautiful hardwood floors contrasts perfectly with the lovely and very elegant black dining furniture, comprised of booths, tables and chairs, and bar counter, all with outstanding black marbalized table tops that give the place class. The restaurant's simple decor seems to emphasize its best features. Its high ceiling painted black also gives it a nice touch. And the large windows that go all around the corner bring in the light making the hardwood floors and table top shine to highlight their best features. The restaurant also has an open second floor, as well as a corner three steps high stage for bringing live entertainment that will provide the place with another exclusive detail to attract its clientele. I had an opportunity to meet the restaurant's manager, Blake, and he had great ideas that, when implemented, could most likely make this place one of the most talked about or highly regarded restaurants in the heart of fine dining in downtown Roanoke. Owner Justin Hayden described the menu of this Second Soft Opening as "a soul food Caribbean-style menu with a New Age twist." It included dishes such as Jerk Chicken with rice and beans, Oxtail Rasta Pasta, Classic Cheese Burger, Loaded Fries or Nachos, Wing Basket with your choice of sauce, and Garden Salad. Hopefully in the future they will also include other Caribbean dishes from other Caribbean Islands such as Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico, who have excellent cuisines. Today I ordered the Oxtail Rasta Pasta and a Coke to drink. I was the first one there and had to leave early because I had another commitment. The dish looked and tasted delicious, with just the right amount of seasoning. I highly recommend this new restaurant to all, and am looking forward to returning when it's in full function.

In receiving that generosity, I offered to treat him to lunch at this particular Chili's restaurant near my hotel at the Tanglewood Mall Roanoke. I wasn't feeling at the time and I knew Chili's was kind of pricey, but had delicious fare. My friend was hungry and I wasn't really at the time. We arrived here around 11:30am on a brisk Sunday morning driving up from Rocky Mount. The ambiance was as pleasant as I remember it to be. It was quiet and nice and away from the kitchen, where it is usually noisier than normal. We had booth seating with a window view and that was cool. The service was good, pleasant, and friendly. My friend and I spent about an hour here from start to finish. I basically ordered chocolate molten cake, since I loved these and is relatively inexpensively priced. It really hit the spot after finishing another 50km ultra marathon in Rocky Mount the day before and it was my reward for it. My friend decided to sample a sampler platter, where it looked pretty good and delicious. I also had a strawberry margarita with my chocolate molten cake just because it just made sense. It was a celebration of sorts and it just happened in this Chili's location in Roanoke, Virginia. I enjoyed these conversation and the overall time spent here. Too bad vacations have to end. It was a quick meal before my friend had to return the rental car and head to the airport himself. For the most part though, the meal was good, especially with the alcohol involved. I even got carded and being over 40+ years old. I guess I still look young or something. If you are in the Roanoke area and love to party, consider coming to Chilis, where the alcohol is good and their food is better. The chocolate molten cake is always a winner every single time. Check it out for yourself. The overall experience here at this Chilis restaurant at the Tanglewood Mall area of Roanoke, Virginia was typical in what you'd expect here. It was quiet on a Sunday since the NFL season was over after Ty Super Bowl. It can get loud but i was glad it was not. It is nice to have those restroom facilities to use on site as well. The restaurant itself was clean and had good air conditioning, even though it was mildly cool outside at the time (low 50's F). The strawberry margarita paired nicely with the chocolate molten cake that I ordered. It was smooth and definitely helped with the entire meal and conversation. My friend decided to have a 3 item simpler platter, which worked good for him. Everything was tasty and the service was good. At the end of the meal, we paid the lunch tab on the device on our table instead of having the server take the payment to a central pay terminal and do the transaction there. After hanging out and just enjoying Sunday morning in Roanoke while having lunch, we left and went our separate ways. For the most part though, it was a good meal with my friend. We both did the event in Rocky Mount the day before and coming to Chilis was a celebration of what the human body is capable of when we believe in ourselves. Hope to be back one day soon for another round of celebrations. But for now, it was definitely a nice time here at Chilis. If you find yourself in Roanoke, Virginia and want lunch or dinner, or possibly just drinks, consider coming down to Chilis here at the Tanglewood Mall. Quite magnificent and very nice on any day or night you might be here. This Chilis location is located at the Tanglewood Mall complex in Roanoke, Virginia. It's physically at 4212 Electric Road, Roanoke. They accept major credit cards, as well as cash. I think they do mobile ordering too, but you'd need the app for that. As far as parking goes, you have a generous helping of parking spots since it's attached to the Tanglewood Mall. If you are a fan of public transportation in Roanoke, bus route 55 will take you directly here from the 3rd street bus terminal In downtown Roanoke. And of course, there is Uber and Lyft to get you here as well. Best bet would be to get here early enough to secure your favorite parking spot and walk on over. Or get here early enough to enjoy the food and drinks that you were looking forward to all week long. I definitely recommend the chocolate molten cake. I think it's been a signature dish of Chilis as far as I can remember and they have it at all locations, I think. Definitely worth the price for sure and with some alcohol, it's definitely worth every penny. At least for this experience anyway. If you fancy a good lunch or dinner, make it Chilis if you're in the Roanoke area. 4.0 stars for the overall experience. Support local! B

I never had the opportunity to visit the prior establishment, but as soon as I found out that this one was open, I went to try it out. El Sinaloense Mexican Restaurant is located in the Hunting Hills Shopping Center, in Roanoke, Virginia. It is in the same Plaza where Kohl's is located on Franklin Road. After I went to Kohl's to return an item that I had bought in Amazon, I saw its temporary restaurant's sign made from vinyl (a budget friendly material that is used while the permanent sign is being made) on the building, on the space high above the entrance to the building where this establishment is now located. The colorful sign read: "EL SINALOENSE MEXICAN GRILL & CANTINA." Afterwards when I got home I searched for and discovered an advertisement online that read: "Available Retaill Space & Restaurant Space for Lease Hunting Hills." With the convenience of having a Strip Mall large parking lot and a fenced in, covered outside patio, up front for outdoor dining, which was reflected on the large glass window and door entrance, I entered the restaurant. It had large tile floors and a simple decor with gigantic framed old yellowish black & white photographs of Mexican history. The furniture consisted of some booths and some comfortable tables and chairs made of wood which looked a little run down but one didn't know if it was of age or just built in the interior design to make it look like this and give character to the place. The wife of the owner of the restaurant served as its host and warmly greeted me at the Host's station and asked me what seating arrangements did I prefer. After I told her that a booth would be fine, she allowed me to pick the booth of my choice and have a seat there with the menu. Not long afterwards a server assistant brought me Tortilla Chips with Salsa and my server came up to my table to take my order. I ordered a lemonade to drink. And for my main course, Burritos Roqueta, which were two pork burritos served with cheese on top and pico de gallo and a side of rice. Their prices were very reasonable. This dish only cost me $14.00, but I ordered it because I love pork, which Mexican call carnitas in their menus. When the food arrived, it looked wonderful, and tasted even better. The well marinated small pieces of pork inside the burritos were extremely tasty, and the thick tortilla held them together, while the melted cheese on top gave this dish even more flavor. The rice had just the right color, consistency, and flavor, and the pico de gallo was made to perfection. For dessert I had the Chorro Cup, and it was like no other that I've ever had at a Mexican restaurant. Inside a nest made of Churros, it had cream vanilla ice-cream, topped with cinnamon, sugar, honey, whipped cream, and to top it off, colorful sprinkles and a special type of cherry. I invite the readers of my review to look at my photographs accompanying this review and see for yourselves, since a picture is worth a thousand words. Before I paid the bill and left, I visited the restroom and walked through the bar, which was called "Cantina," and was in a separate room with a dining area as well. In conclusion, I highly recommend this family-owned Mexican Restaurant. What at first may seem to have been a typical Mexican restaurant located at a Shopping Center, turned out to be a delightful Mexican restaurant, with amazing food and extraordinary customer service.

When I arrived to the place, I found out the name of the new restaurant by reading it from the window, painted in yellow paint: "SHOW PONY / COLD DRINKS HOT PLATES." Not until afterwards did I discover the meaning of this new restaurant's name. As I entered the door, I noticed that the bar had been extended along the wall with more seats, and was the center of attention of the restaurant. The booths that were once there had been replaced with bistro tables. But the focal point was definitely the bar which was completely full of customers talking, drinking, and having a good time. The clientele at the restaurant's tables was a diverse group of people of all ages, and of all economic backgrounds. The items on the drink and food menu were refined yet reasonably priced to accommodate everyone and leave out no one. The atmosphere of the restaurant was relaxed and unpretentious. It was a bar centered neighborhood joint, with refined yet accessible comfort food in a classy setting. It didn't take long for the host to warmly greet me and and offer me a seat at one of their small tables. And as soon as she left, my server arrived. She was a young lady with a welcoming attitude, a big smile, and a wonderful personality. When she asked me what I wanted to drink I asked her if they had any Mocktails in the menu. She immediately answered that she can have the bartender make me one and suggested THE BEST DAY EVER FAN CLUB. I agreed and she went over to the bar. What she brought back was amazing. It looked wonderful and tasted even better. She then took my food order after answering me some questions about the menu. I ordered the YAKAMEIN which contained Braised Beef in Broth with Noodles, Shrimp & Hard-boiled Egg, and was reasonably priced at $15. The entrée was a good size and tasted amazingly delicious. For dessert I had the HOUSE ICE CREAM which was Strawberry & Lime Ice Cream with Whipped Cream & Sponch Marshmallows. Also, very interesting and sweet. In conclusion I highly recommend this place. The owners did an excellent job in making their dream come true by with their creative imagination coming up with place everyone can enjoy to the fullest.

After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to return to those special ones, that have made a difference in my life and highlight them, for the benefit of the public, so they too can have an opportunity to appreciate the qualities of a one-of-a-kind fine dining experience. And Bernard's Gastropub & Eatery in Downtown Roanoke, is a perfect example. Bernard's was born out of the love of two culinary aficionados turned professionals that in someway have managed to create a restaurant with an environment that transmits this intimate love to the hearts of their customers through the attention to detail in its extraordinary customer service and amazing culinary masterpieces. Today, I felt like dining at this restaurant, which I admire for its consistency in always far exceeding my high expectations of what a fine-dining restaurant should be all about. Not knowing if they would have a table for me at this late time on a Saturday early evening, I drove in my pearl white Lexus to the nearest private parking lot and gave them a call to inquire as if they could give me a reservation for the next ten minutes. A gentleman, who later I found out was named Matthew, and would be my server, answered the phone with a very polite and welcoming voice; answering my question of what was the special dish of the day and to come on down, that my reservation was assured. As soon as I arrived to the small, very elegant foyer in front of the Host's station, he came out to greet me and instantly recognized who I was. My only request was that he give me a low table because at my age seating at a high table was a bit uncomfortable. He went back to see what he could find and ended setting me up with what I consider one of the best tables of the house, and I was so appreciative of his last minute accommodation. The menu was already setup on my table. He poured water from a special bottle into my water glass and asked if I wanted something else to drink. I asked for a Mocktail and since he also was a bartender, he prepared me one of the best mocktails I've ever had. To dine, I started out with their Mussels Carbonara appetizer, which came in a bacon parmesan cream sauce that was simply amazing, and served with toast points. As my main entrée I had the Dinner Special of the Night, the Seafood Trio. It had a delicious, giant size crab cake in the middle, scallops, and shrimps, with parmesan risotto sautéed heirloom tomato, spinach, and nice size asparagus, with a burre blanc sauce. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the high-quality of their food and magnificent ambiance of the place. Everything was so delicious that only one word could ever describe them: priceless! For dessert I had their very famous Butterscotch Banana Pudding, which the chef makes at the moment ordered. It looked spectacular and tasted amazingly delicious: a culinary work of art. What a great way for the Gran Finale of an extraordinary dining experience!
