Came here on Valentine's Day and I'm honestly just confused on how this place has a high rating. I understand that it can get busy on a popular holiday, but this was absolutely ridiculous. We waited 45 minutes for our appetizer to arrive and an hour for our main course to arrive. Our server was apologetic but it doesn't excuse the fact we waited for our steaks for an hour. Ribeye was fine, but the mashed potatoes didn't have flavor until I put a LOT of salt and pepper. The steak knives were dull and couldn't cut through my steak. On top of that, the tables were very shaky so while I was trying to cut my steak with the dullest knife known to man, my drinks were shaking and spilling. I need to reiterate that I know it was a busy holiday but for a whole 45 minutes, our server didn't check in on us and I don't think anyone should ever be waiting an hour for a meal, just for it to have no flavoring and be extremely bland. Problem was not the service, just the overall efficiency of the restaurant.

From what I had heard about this place I was expecting a bit more upscale ambiance. Still not sure if I'm disappointed or relieved. This is a more upscale sports bar that seems to specialize in higher quality plates. I was expecting more of a tapas vibe. Appetizers were ok. Mac and cheese bites were lacking in a lot of flavor. They came out crispy and the Mac wasn't overcooked but neither the pasta or breading had much flavor. The avocado ranch it came with was pretty tasty. Poutine was disappointing. Fries were overdone and tasted nothing of Parmesan garlic. The gravy was creamy but also lacking in a little flavor. Not sure what the smoked ham was seasoned with but I'm not a fan of smoky so I could have gone without. Curds themselves were cheesy and a nice consistency but overall just not what I wanted out of a poutine. Guess I was craving more cheese. Dinner was decent. Two of us got salads and they are a decent size for the price. I got the steak and blue and my steak tips were smaller than expected but plentiful and actually cooked to the correct temp! Two of my dinner mates got the tuna tacos and I didn't hear complaints. One wasn't a fan of the sweet potato tots because they were too sweet but I loved them. Dessert: I think this was the biggest disappointment. First, it took almost 30 min to come out after ordering. (Our waitress was pretty sparse the whole meal). Second, The peaches tasted ok although slightly on the overcooked side (over caramelized). The mini waffle was thin and slightly crispy yet malleable. Didn't really hold up to eating like a taco. Whipped topping seemed homemade and plentiful. Overall, it was very messy and not quite the cobbler I was expecting. If the taco shell was supposed to be the "topping" it just wasn't enough. TLDR: good enough to try again but won't rush to come back.

Decent bar/American food. My husband and I came here for dinner on a Sunday night. Service was friendly and food was fresh. We ordered the poutine and Mexican street corn appetizers. The fries for the poutine had a nice crunch but still soft texture inside, ham and cheese curds were nice size and not too little or too much with the fries and gravy. The Mexican street corn had good flavor but I just wanted more of it on the whole corn. For our entrees I tried to order the Shrimp and Asparagus fettucine but was told they were out of fettucine, no problem tried to order the Shrimp and Grits and then told they were out of shrimp. The server was very apologetic about it and I wasn't super upset, just a bummer they were out of what I wanted to try. I ultimately ordered the Tuna Burger which was delicious and freshly made. I had requested it rare and it was a bit more cooked but still tasted really good. The side of fries was the same style as what came in the poutine so still crunchy outside with soft inside. My husband ordered the Country Fried Pork Chop that comes with mashed potatoes. I thought it tasted good and was cooked well but he didn't like the smoky flavor as much but did think it was cooked well otherwise. They have a good selection of local beer as well as usual favorites and looked like a good wine list. They are open later which is nice for last minute dinner plans. Atmosphere was busy but not too loud or chaotic. We will probably be back since we don't live too far away.

There are some nice contemporary restaurants popping up in reasantly new construction strip malls. This one in particular caught my eyes one day as we drove by the place. The impressive building construction and colorful name design motivated me to one day invite a friend of mine to go with me there for dinner. When we arrived, we were impressed with the entrance to the restaurant because of the highest wall construction in the strip mall located in a corner spot with an outdoor patio for outside seating and eating. As we entered the restaurant, the place was modern and clean, yet at the same time relaxed and cozy. The high ceilings helped expand the space, which was small and had its tables very close to each other. The host station was in the center as you entered, and the main seating area was on the right, while the bar and another seating area were on the left. The host quickly greeted us with a warm smile and took us to a table on the right. The menu had a short but very nice selection of dishes from which to choose and several that made you want to come back to try them. To start with, we chose the Poutine. As our main course, my friend ordered the Mushroom & Cheese Burger with a side of sweet potato tots, and I ordered the Cuban Panini with Cast Fries. The appetizer was a good size for two, very tasty, and filled us up. The main courses were not as large, and even though they filled us up, mine, in particular, was small and had very little meat inside. For dessert, we had the Peach Cobler Tacos. The hard waffle tacos were filled with cubes of peaches (but not peach Cobler) and covered with nice cold, fresh Whipped Cream. As we left, we both left satisfied even though we felt that the tables were a bit too close together and lacked privacy. I particularly liked the place and would recommend it as a place to meet with family or friends for an informal dinner in a modern yet relaxed ambiance.

After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last…read moreyear, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that it would be appropriate this year to go back to this restaurant and write a follow-up review, since my initial review was one of my reviews that contributed to me obtaining this highly esteemed Award. Consistency in the dining experience of a restaurant is something very important. It is something that the restaurant has to earn every time a customer enters through its door. As easily as a restaurant can win a customer over, it can also lose him and his loyalty to the restaurant. Sadly, this is what happened to me during this visit. I had missed having lunch, that day, so I arrived at around 4:30pm to have an early dinner. A gentleman greeted me and had me take a seat at a table of my choice. I went and sat at a booth facing the kitchen. I think it was the same place I sat the first time I ate here with a friend. The same gentleman performed as my server. He came by and asked me what I wanted to drink. I asked him if they had any Mocktails. He answered me that Mocktails are not the drinks that people usually drink there, but that he can have them make one for me at the bar. I described the one I would like to have and right after give him my food order. I ordered a Hunter's Burger, with a fried egg, smoked bacon, and American cheese, among other ingredients. And tater tots to accompany it. After putting in my food order he goes to the bar and comes back with my Mocktail, which was extremely acidic, but he had already walked away before I could tell him. So I stirred it hoping that this would fix it. But as the acidic liquid reached my throat it made me caught and gave me an unpleasant sensation. The server brings me the Hunter's Burger, my main course, with the tater tots. The tater tots are not cooked well. When I try to hook one up with my fork, it just splits in half. The Hunter's Burger bun was not big at all, and the patty was extremely small that you could hardly see it without opening the buns up, and that is what I did and discovered that the egg was not fried evenly but the yolk had been broken while being fried and was not soft. I tried to make the best of the situation and ate the burger with a fork. If all this wasn't enough, the server approached me with something in his hand that I think was my bill and asked me if I wanted something else. I told him that I wanted the Fried Oreo Cookies with the Vanilla Ice-cream. He brings me them with so little ice-cream that it had melted in the middle of the Fried Oreo Cookies. What an awful dining experience this has been compared to last time, which I still remember today. And today's experience, I just want to forget. I hope the owner of this restaurant reads this review and takes a look at my photographs that accompany it, and takes action to remedy it so that this doesn't happen again and tarnish the Image of what I once thought was a great restaurant.

Very nice staff, answered our questions, and were quite friendly. Ordered two gourmet burgers and a 'cheese steak' panini. All three came with fries and were visually appealing. The "steak" was strips of very tough and chewy meat that pulled right out of the bread, and the peppers overrode all other tastes. A real disappointment. The staff came and checked on us twice, very attentive. I would try it again, just to try another of their very creative dishes, but I am not running back. Good for a stop if you are downtown.

A family-owned restaurant that has been serving locals, travelers, and late-night crowds from its classic 10-stool lunch counter since 1930, and continues to be strictly cash-only. A restaurant that not only has survived, but strived for 96 years, owned by the same local family, and is currently owned by fourth-generation owner Matt Bullington. Who has said that the key to its longevity has been sticking to what has made them successful since they opened. A restaurant that has never been remodeled and whose menu has never been expanded, but that in this lies its real charm. A restaurant that despite economic hardship, tries never to raise prices and remain affordable. A restaurant that many people go to it because of their food, others because of their prices, and others like me this morning, because of the experience to sit at its counter and appreciate its character and charm while enjoying a classic breakfast of three fried eggs over easy with bacon and white toast basted with butter. That restaurant was and continues to be the iconic Texas Tavern, located in the heart of Downtown Roanoke. This morning I drove my pearl white Lexus up to it and parked in front of the sidewalk at the parallel parking with a one-hour limit. There is so much history behind this place that the excitement of the moment made the breakfast experience more momentous. Once inside, a young gentleman who has been working there for over two years now greeted me and immediately made me feel at home. He took my order and almost at the same time started making my toast and frying my eggs. In no time at all I had my order in front of me. I noticed and made him aware that one egg was missing. He made it right by frying me another egg over easy and I didn't mind because of his positive attitude and very unique personality. He also asked me how I'd like my coffee and prepared it just as requested with two creams and three sugars. Every one of the three eggs were perfectly fried over easy and I sprinkled a salt and pepper mixture over them. The bread of the toast was so fresh and tasty braised in butter. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the high-quality of their food. I'm looking forward to returning one day at lunch time to taste some of their menu items of which they are known for. Starting with their Cheesy Western, the tavern legendary trademark burger served with a fried egg, cheese, pickles, and a sweet-and-tangy homemade cabbage relish. Or maybe a bowl of their secret-recipe chili served with onions. Or their trademark hot dog served Coney Island-style with chili, relish, mustard, and unions. All comfort food that make you feel good and bring a sense of nostalgia, warmth, and satisfaction. I highly recommend this small, historic, eatery for a one-of-a-kind, memorable, dining experience. We made good time and, wouldn't you know it, Sticks & Spoons was closed for renovations. It came with a homemade lemon aioli - both the shrooms & the aioli were delicious. Both of us enjoyed our choices and appreciated the excellent service from Erika and Brandon. Our entire experience was fantastic, which came with extra effort when Erika gave us free water while we chatted outside with one of Neal's former professors. LB closes for a couple of hours between lunch & dinner service, so Erika, as she was closing up and leaving, gladly provided the water and some extra produce she had grown herself.
