Holy cow, it was amazing! I've heard a lot about this place over the last year or so, and finally got to try it today. I totally over-ordered because I wanted to try different things. And nothing disappointed. First impression was that it's a weird little green box of a restaurant (looking at it from the outside). Then, we walked in, we was it was super fun and trendy with a great atmosphere. Just not a lot of seating. So definitely not the place for big groups or office-away-from home (despite the amazing goodies and excellent bottomless coffee). You order at the counter. I met multiple staff, all of whom were friendly and helpful as I asked a bunch of questions about the menu. Wil, in particular, was a fantastic host. And the reason I had so many questions? Because the menu is huge and packed with crazy stuff you'd never attempt at home - like the incredible red curry chicken breakfast burrito I devoured. They have a monthly special, which we didn't try. My wife is gluten-, dairy-, and grain-free, and she got an amazing curry breakfast plate -- scrambled eggs, sautéed tofu, and creamed potato with peas. As a beautiful husband, I tried all of those things, and love them too. But for me, the aforementioned burrito. A ham, egg and cheese biscuit, and a breakfast cookie. With a side of amazing coffee! Yeah, I know, I totally didn't need all that food, but I had to try a biscuit at "Scratch Biscuit," right? Everything was exceptional! The only thing I'd change is that the biscuit mix is too salty for my taste, but that's kind of a southern thing, right? Anyway, I'm already looking forward to my next visit. This is a must-try in the Roanoke area. Say hello to Wil for me!

Totally solid experience for a first time visit. I'm pretty sure I lucked out on timing catching them for brunch around an hour before close on a Friday. No issues with parking, however the lot is small. Lot was clean as was the walk up. Upon entering my son and I were greeted by the guy behind the counter who proved friendly and helpful. A menu board is behind counter. There are also menus you can grab and take back to the table. I saw several items that looked like great options. My son ordered the egg biscuit and french toast. I got the biscuit pot pie which is a biscuit, egg, cheese and gravy. The dining room is pretty compact. I found it clean. Napkins and utensils are self serve up front. They also offer tap water. Tables are self bus. Food cranked out fast, maybe 10 minutes. Everything looked fantastic and proved to be amazing! My son was very satisfied with his oversized breakfast sandwich and french toast. My dish was over the top yum! All served at the correct temperature. The combo of biscuit and egg and gravy was a major hit for me. I'm a big fan and would 100% return and recommend to others.

The food at SBC was the better than my Grand Mother's, out of this world! This will be our new breakfast place.

I have always wanted to try Scratch Biscuit Company, and this particular morning they did not disappoint. I usually patron restaurants like waffle house or Ihop on mornings like this one. But I absolutely had to say this breakfast made my morning. From the homey feel of this corner side restaurant to the great host that answered any and every question I had about the menu and ingredients. I was blown away by my experience!! I ordered the breakfast pot pie because Id never heard of anything like it and it exceeded my expectations visually and flavor wise, there was a giant biscuit loaded on top of eggs sausage potatoes and gravy, this took my breakfast to another level!

Fish and egg on a biscuit. Grits. Biscuit & Sausage Gravy. Chicken Biscuit with egg.

Oder taker was extremely professional. It was our first time and he was patient with our questions and very friendly. He said their grits were the must-have and they were great. Also the crispy chicken is particularly good. I had the fish and egg. Very good. The biscuits were also good and we shared a biscuit with sausage gravy. I felt like the gravy could have been better.

Great food! We got the bless your heart biscuit and the early rise platter. The green tomatoes were delicious but the sandwich is huge. The platter had great eggs and the biscuit was great. Their outdoor seating is nice too!

Excellent !!! Wow what a breakfast! Filled us up until dinner. If you like homemade biscuits like you WISH your grandma could make then give this place a try. Can't wait to go back and try new things on the menu!

My wife did the usual searching on Yelp and found Scratch Biscuit for our first breakfast in Roanoke. She was impressed with the positive reviews and she loves a good biscuit. We decided to stop in on a Sunday morning in early October. It was within 15 minutes of our hotel and just down the street from Black Dog Salvage, which was our next stop. We arrived and could immediately see the parking was limited. It appears the locals have it figured out, you can place an online order or call in your order, pull up to the designated pickup spots. We witnessed employees quickly responding to customers by stepping outside, gathering the customers name and bringing their to go order out. For customers dining in like us, we struggled to find a spot to park. We circled around a few times before securing a space near the back of their building. We walked inside and joined the short line to place our order. The inside is narrow and small which does make it somewhat difficult to navigate. We found there to be way more customers than indoor seating but noted they also have outdoor seating. There is really no place to wait for to-go orders, which explains the reserved parking spaces for easier to-go order pickup. After reviewing the menu in line, we were ready to place our orders when we got to the counter. My wife decided to get the brisket biscuit with egg and a side of sliced tomatoes. I chose the breakfast burrito with both bacon and sausage because I am not much of a biscuit fan. While we were placing our order at the counter we asked a few questions of the young man helping us. We learned Scratch has the same owner as the establishment next door where many others were parking. He also confirmed that we were welcome to sit at either outside dining areas on either side of the building. We filled our water cups while waiting for our name to be called. Again, it is quite cramped and somewhat difficult to navigate amongst others who are also waiting for their orders or sitting inside. Our order was ready in a timely manner but when our name was called our order was contained in a bag. We confirmed our order was for dining in twice during the order process and noticed the slip on the outside of the bag said to go. We took our order without mentioning we were dining in. We peeked at the first outdoor area and didn't find an available table so we headed over to the second space where we easily found a table. We unwrapped our items and were thankful they included plastic silverware and additional napkins. My wife really enjoyed the brisket and egg biscuit and was impressed with the serving of sliced tomato. I also enjoyed my breakfast burrito though it would have been nice to have some salsa options, which I did not see. Scratch Biscuit has something really good going on and we can imagine their catering options are popular as well. Could they move to a larger location, yes but if they chose to retain their current building we would suggest considering a few improvements. A few suggestions include designating a team member to monitor the indoor and exterior dining spaces for better customer service and to assist with clearing and wiping down the tables and chairs between customers. Creating better signage informing customers of the parking options as well as the two outside seating options, and laminating the paper menus so they can be cleaned easily. Overall the food portion of our experience was great, however, the other factors mentioned above result in less than a five star rating.

Our biscuits were large and delicious. Highly recommend the bologna with egg and cheese. They were really busy but all the staff was really nice and attentive and our wait was not bad at all.

A small, popular and busy breakfast place. Prepare to stand in line but the line moves quickly. As the name says, you're coming here for the biscuits. Served a multitude of ways, theres an option for most every taste. Menus are along the wall as you make your way to the counter, and there is a big board overhead at the register. Place your order, pay, grab a seat and your beverage, they will bring your food to you when its ready. Ordered of course, biscuits and gravy (a single) with some scrambled eggs on the side. These things are huge, fyi. Great flavor, tender pillowy goodness. With the eggs in the mix, its a good and filling breakfast. A good cup of coffee too. Well worth the visit, standing in line, looking for a seat and crowd. 4 Stars a solid breakfast choice 01015

Jamaican Pattys and Hot Honey Chicken
    Anna S.

My family and I needed a quick breakfast spot and stumbled upon this spot. Our Airbnb host has recommended this breakfast spot to check out. When arriving parking was very limited but we were able to get a spot. The line was very intimating, however it was very short and quick. We ordered the Jamaican patty tacos and hot honey biscuit. We found this meal very heavy but worth our money. It was delicious. The seatings were hard to find since we had a big group but we were able to find a spot outside. I would recommend ordering pick up or Togo for a quicker service!

Some of the biggest biscuits I have ever had. The egg biscuit and Jerry Garcia (tofu) was what I got on separate occasions. They k ow how to do breakfast right. I always pull up and they run out (even in the rain) tonget my order...5 min later and they are bringing out everything. I did have to run in one time to add hashbrowns and saw that they had a wonderful dine in atmosphere. Very fast service. The staff aim to please. Highly recommend this place especially when you looking to pig out on some breakfast food.

They also have another location in nearby Salem. I used the app for getting in line which typically works flawlessly. My time to arrive was 15-20 and upon arrival in that frame a table was ready. A host seated us with menus and silverware. Our group of four looked over the menu as a waitress arrived minutes later. She got the drink order and arrived back in short order. We were ready to order. I cannot remember what everyone got, but I had the Spring chimichurri special and added an avocado. The dining room was packed as was their outdoor patio. The noise was elevated, but not piercing. We had a table near the patio. I enjoyed my coffee as we waited for brunch orders. It's impossible to not be impressed with the hard working staff as they quickly moved through the dining room. After around 15 to no more than 20 minutes the food hit the table. The millionaire bacon is always a huge hit and recommend. Everyone's dishes were correct. My dish overall looked smaller than I've had before. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. The avocado add was two tiny pieces which was disappointing. When our waitress checked in I alerted her the avocado add on was underwhelming. She immediately addressed it with additional. She also got another water craft. Checkout was efficient up front. In my opinion First Watch offers a higher level service, good and atmosphere. I plan on returning with additional visits in Roanoke coming up this Summer.

And what I found completely amazed me, and exceeded my highest of expectations. After being awarded the NC Triad Yelp Squad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, celebrating their contributions and accomplishments throughout the year, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Mill Mountain Coffee & Tea, near Tanglewood Mall, in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. The Mill Mountain Coffee & Tea on Starkey Road in Roanoke, VA, is a former bank that was converted into a coffee shop by Blake Construction, a company that also handles many of their projects. This location opened in 2012, after the original downtown Roanoke store was established in 1990 by founder Dave Johnson. The Starkey Road location featured a unique renovation, including turning the old vault into a walk-in cooler and adding a drive-up window.  When I entered the Coffee Shop today, I was attracted by its magical cozy ambiance and by the fine lines and curves of its renovation architectural design. Known for its artisanal coffee blends and curated tea selections, I was also impressed with their menu, that besides freshly baked pastries, also included a nice egg variety plates for breakfast and creative sandwiches for lunch. The place offered a cozy retreat for coffee enthusiasts. College students could take advantage of their Free WiFi to research and write their reports using their laptops. Friends could meet there to spend quality time talking to each other. Entrepreneurs could use the place to brainstorm business ideas over a cup of savory coffee. Art enthusiasts could view the artists display works, and even purchase one to add to their collection. When it was my turn to make my order, I approached the counter and a bright and friendly young lady took my order. I ordered a breakfast plate with two fried eggs over easy, bacon, and white toast, with a large Mocha Coffee to drink. The cook did an excellent job cooking my food, just how I had asked it done. At the entrance there was a Community Bulletin Board with different announcements and advertisements. I happened to find one for this year's performance of the Nutcracker at the Burgland Center, which I had been wondering about when ticket sales were selling. In conclusion, I highly recommend this coffee shop, not only for its great coffee and tea, for its food menu, for its exceptional customer service, and cozy atmosphere, that together make for an extraordinary dining experience.

I invite you to read that review and view my photographs accompanying it to get a better sense of my experience here, then. However, this time around, it wasn't so good. And I judge restaurants by their consistency of quality of food and service. This time, the ambiance was nice and the service was excellent by a friendly young lady server, but the quality of the food left much to be desired, especially the way it was cooked. The cook was a total disappointment. I was one of the first ones there when they opened their doors. When I entered, a group of friendly and eager to serve servers who where gathered around chatting, waiting for their customers to arrive, greeted me and gave me a warm welcome, and invited me to take the table of my choice. Soon after I was seated, my server, a friendly young lady came by and took my order. I asked for orange juice and coffee to drink, as well as a glass of iced water. And to eat I asked for the dish that I so much enjoyed and was looking forward to having today: the Steak & Eggs. I ordered a five ounce filet cooked medium rare with two fried eggs cooked over easy, served with homefries as my choice of side, and for bread: white Texas toast. While I waited for my food to come out, I enjoyed drinking my orange juice and coffee, looked over the menu, and looked out the window where I saw in the distance, Ernie's, one of my favorite breakfast restaurants, for its consistency of quality food and service, and relaxing environment. When my server brings my food, the first thing I noticed was my flat filet cut. Usually this cut is for customers who like their steak well done. Last time, my filet was a thick cut one, cooked medium-rare to perfection. Then I saw the fried eggs. They weren't over easy, but over cooked as well. And the toast was over-toasted and laid there while the food was cooking, because it was luckwarm and hard by the time it got to me. When I cut my steak with the steak knife to see if it was pink inside, it was not. It was tough and dry. When my servers. I signaled one of servers asking for my server and tell her about my steak. She replied that now they were using a different meat provider, but that she would take it back and ask for another to be cooked. She only takes the steak back. Shen then brings me another back that not only had a weird shape, but was rare and with gristle. Judging by the quality of the second steak, the cook didn't intend to make amends, or maybe didn't know better. It's a pity because everything else about this restaurant is comforting, but when the food isn't, it takes away the desire to return. I hope the management and the owner of the restaurant read this review and take the necessary steps to correct the misdoing. Because restaurants' success is brought about through repeat customers and not by passersby.

The first Wednesday I arrived too late to be able to have their Chorizo & Eggs Cocotte from their Breakfast menu. Breakfast is only served until noon, and I found out about this on that day. So instead I had a Cheese Danish and a house-made Mocha Coffee. Both items were delicious. On the second Wednesday I arrived much earlier for breakfast. Luckily, right before a whole rush of customers arriving to place Take-out orders. As soon as I walked inside I immediately felt comfortable with its clean and contemporary architectural design and decor, and an exposed red brick wall that gave it a warm ambiance. One can see that the owner spent a substantial amount in renovating the place when they moved here, and that they took good care of it, because it looked as if it had just opened for the very first time yesterday. While I was looking over all the baked items they had, I received a friendly greeting and warm welcome from a lady behind the counter who seemed to be the manager and took my order. To start I ordered a Chorizo Quiche which happened to be the Quiche of the day, and a house-made Mocha Coffee. Then since I was planning to turn this into a Brunch, for my main entrée I ordered their Chorizo Cocotte from the Breakfast menu. And for dessert I had a Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant that was simply irresistible. Everything tasted amazingly delicious, especially since I love Chorizo. The Quiche had an amazing crust with the eggs inside cooked with the perfect amount of chorizo. The Chorizo Cocotte was served in an elongated bowl with two poached eggs over Spanish sausage, accompanied by three slices of freshly made Baguette. And if all this wasn't enough, the Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant was the perfect ending dessert to this fabulous put together Brunch. Oh and the coffee was the best of the best. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the quality of their food. What an outstanding dining experience I just had at Bread Craft. Wonderful ambiance, amazing food, and extraordinary customer service. I highly recommend this Bakery/Café whenever you're in the area. I'm absolutely certain it will become one of your favorites bakery.

This is an unfortunate review to write with so many rave reviews. However, it's a one off…read moreexperience with me being out of town. I specifically targeted Bread Craft with its stellar reviews. I parked off street which was free. The business has a small sign and larger one over the entry. The walk up was debris free. The interior was somewhat compact, but a few tables were available for eat in which I planned. I'm confident they have a heavy takeout business with bakery items. The case of baked goods looked fantastic! However, I had my eye on their Eggs Florentine which can be difficult to find on a menu. Ordering is by counter and I found the woman to be friendly. I ordered the Eggs Florentine and coffee and was given a mug for self serve pour and a table number. I thought the bill was affordable, With few customers and not had anything to eat at 1 PM I hoped for them to roll out my dish quickly. About 20 minutes went by and a nearby table received their order. However, just moments later the waitress realized her mistake, but it was too late. She gave my order to another table that took a bite. The waitress apologized, but this point I was starved. No offer of a pastry etc. Unfortunately the coffee was lukewarm and not tasty. A manager I believe said hello, but no apology if he even knew. I mean the place is small of course he did. Another 20 minutes or so and my food hit the table with no additional apology or again offer of pastry etc. Even if it was to go. On the bright side my eggs Florentine dish was amazing! It saved the review from going under water. I switched coffee to the dark roast which was hot, but still not tasty. I would not return or recommend. 2.5 rounding up with a fantastic eggs dish.
