Great sandwich! Easy carryout process and prepared when expected. The fries were unfortunately soggy by the time we got them, so I'm unsure if they'd been sitting out, but they did taste good anyway. The bread on the sandwich had a nice crisp. I also tried the chopped hamburger steak sandwich, and I wouldn't personally describe it as "chopped" since it was a patty. So so disappointed, won't be back. This used to be a staple years ago. Still looks the same. So last time eating here was right before Cvid. Understand prices are higher as are everywhere. Wanted something different and kids love their cheese steaks. I went with the burger b/c remember they were great. I decided to try the Philly Steak burger medium rare (came out mediumish) since kids were getting the cheese steaks. I traded the green peps for mushrooms. Got the small burger (6oz or so) and didn't see the Philly steak on top. Mentioned to waitress, the took it back in and came back and said it's under the cheese. There was some onions and mushrooms. No Philly meat. I politely pointed that out. Was told oops sorry some of the kitchen is not on their game. So the bill was brought still charged the full $15.99, for a $13.99 Burger. That was first irritation the 2nd on was the "passing the credit card fee" to the customers. That was even more of a BS move. See the pics. We needed to get a bite, and this place was right off the highway. We couldn't have been more disappointed with the place. The beer list is as lame as I've seen in years... Coors, Coors Lite, Bud, Bud Lite, Miller, Miller Lite, etc. They had a Devils Backbone, which my sister loves it and she can't get it in the Midwest. We both ordered a large glass and a couple of burgers. The server came back and said the keg just ran out and they didn't have another one. There was a half a beer sitting at the bar. She offered it to my sister for the price of a short. There are a couple of problems with this. 1. It was not even a short. 2. Who really wants to pay for the last 8 ounces of a keg? My sister declined, and we watched her go dump the beer out. I got the only other decent beer they offered, an IPA. My sister doesn't like IPA'S, so she stuck with water. They offer to sub onion rings for the fries for a $1.99 upcharge. We ordered one burger with O-rings and one without. The food took a while to come out. When it arrived, they both had O-rings, but more importantly, they were both really, really overcooked and dry. I let her know about the o-ring/fry mixup. She apologized and seemed to indicate that she would bring the fries. I asked for hot sauce. She asked which one I wanted. I let her know, and she headed off to engage in other activities. I reminded her about it, and she brought out a souffle cup of hot sauce. She stopped by after a while and asked, "Other than the fries, how is everything?". At this point, we were ready to be done, and we said, "Fine." We discussed whether we were getting fries or not. It wasn't clear. A while later she said as she walked by thay she was taking off the upcharge for the o-rings. We said thank you, but we were still unclear if fries were coming out. My sister went to the restroom, and the fries came out. The restroom was out of hand soap. She went to the register to pay and let them know the restroom is out of hand soap. The comment was not acknowledged, and the cashier started talking to another guest prior to her business being wrapped up with my sister. Downsides: Seriously overcooked burgers Iffy service. I like Lews don't get me wrong but dang the atmosphere is a 0/10 for me. It sucks. It's not super clean in there and it feels like bad being in there. I love the food! I love the wait staff! Every part but the atmosphere is amazing. 5/10 times we say let's go here someone always says "nah I just hate being in there" Like can someone please clean that place up and fix it up because I swear the business would double. Looked up the number to call the location at Hollins. the website showed the locations address. When I called the number listed the phone Rand and finally it was answered and hung up. called the alternate number listed for this location. I place the order. I drive to the location to get my order. I was told no order existed. when they asked me what number k called I showed the number on the website with this location listed. I was told that the number was for the downtown location. when o said why would you list your other location number under this locations information I was told it was not their issue and to go to the other location to get my food. We have been to lews twice when we stayed in this area first time the bathroom was so dirty. My wife could not even use it. Food was disgusting and place is not very clean. Don't know where your recommendations come from but it does not match the restaurant second time we went give it another try we have been driving all day. I love their French Dip sandwich. I get it almost every time I go to Lews. I'm especially glad they have it because not many places do. However the burgers are great too. I normally prefer "regular" french fries, without being coated or dipped into anything before they're cooked, but at Lews, whatever they put their fries in before they fry them is delicious and actually makes the fries better. This is a great casual place to hang out with family and friends and enjoy a beverage while your food is cooked to order. The staff really know what they're doing. It's basic food done right. We love Lew's! The boneless wings are the best I've ever had! I like the sweet chili. I've tried the pizza but don't care for it. They have a special one day a week and a lot of people come to pick up a pizza so it's either acceptable for $10 or they just really like it. We've tried it twice and both times we weren't impressed. Crust isn't that good, sauce is fair and toppings are good. I've tried the cheesesteak sandwich and it's pretty good, not great. We ordered an Italian sub to go, they put slaw on it and by the time we got home to eat it the bread was all soggy and gross! The people who work there are wonderful. My three teenage children and I stopped for dinner at the Lew's on Williamson Road in Roanoke, VA after spending much of the day driving up the Blue Ridge Parkway from NC. The woman behind the counter at the Tru Hilton recommended it when I asked her where we could get a good burger close by...we ordered three different types of hamburgers...mushroom and swiss (2), a bacon cheeseburger, and one straight up cheeseburger. Maybe it was the long and beautiful drive that left us extra hungry or the fact that they had the Yankees/Red Sox game on one big screen (and the Yanks were winning ;-) and the Canadiens/Penguins game on the other, but whatever the reason we all agreed that they were the best burgers we've ever had...hands down! Great/friendly service. Solid selection of beers on tap. And exactly the kind of "perfect dive" atmosphere we needed to relax after a long drive. read more

I was passing through with my mom and dad, we wanted to find a restaurant near our hotel, and Lews was right around the corner. I got the appetizer plate that has the chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks and fries. It was amazing! The cheese in the mozzarella sticks was really stretchy, the fires were really good nice and crispy. The chicken fingers had just the right amount of seasoning. It wasn't too salty not too spicy. The atmosphere was very welcoming, staff was really nice. 10/10 would definitely recommend to anyone passing through in the area. read more

We ate dinner there on 6-28-19. It was not a good visit. I ordered a veggie pizza with spinach, there wasn't any spinach when we got it. We had already waited a long time so I didn't want to send it back. We had to ask for utensils and salt and pepper, brought the utensils we ended up getting the salt and pepper. No one came out to see if we needed anything. Finally after we finished eating the server came out and we asked for another beer. When she brought it she said no charge due to how long we had to wait. When we got ready to pay I asked to take the charge off for the spinach we didn't get. She did but then added the charge for the beer she told us no charge on. Poor service, food had been ready for awhile before being served because it was room temperature when we were served. We love Lews on Williamson. This location just as good. Excellent food, large portions, more than fair prices especially for the portion size. 3 tvs, casual dining; updated paint, floors, ceiling and art from previous restaurant. All tables (no booths). Bar you can sit at. The place isn't "fancy" but it is clean with bar-height tables for 4 along the windows. Daily specials (see pictures) served all day (excellent value). We both had the Friday special...the Shakedown with drink. Shakedown is pastrami piled high, coleslaw and swiss cheese on grilled rye bread with chips and drink. Enough for two people. And was DELISH. Alex, our server was prompt, informative, and genuinely nice and friendly. This place is definitely on our list of favorites. read more
